ok so

the instructions were for Wally, not the whrp/qa/You. which is especially interesting, because I think we all assumed they were instructions from Wally - after all, he's the one telling the whrp that they have work to do, he's sending envelopes (assumedly), he's sort of the driving force behind the whole in-universe project. he calls the shots, in a way. he's the one with the phone.

so who the hell is giving Wally instructions?

is it related to the distorted "extra" voice under Wally's in some of his hidden record audios? is it related to Sally's "monster"? is there someone else in Home?

just... there's a whole 'nother layer underneath Wally that i think is really scary. there's something else there, i feel. i Fear. i wonder if Wally is aware of it, or if he isn't quite as aware as we all - including him - like to think. how aware can a puppet be if they can't see their own strings (so to speak)? it's one thing to know what you are, and another entirely to understand what that entails.

Watching Wayward Pines for potential ST5 inspo bc the Duffers wrote a couple episodes in s1, and when I got to their second (last) episode and their name crossed the screen, I noticed a visual parallel that might already exist on the show…

Recognize it??

It instantly reminded me of that last shot for the opening of s3, with the landscape peaking out behind the Russian base. But when I went back and actually compared the two, holy shit it’s near identical, and not just the landscape.

I didn’t even remember the helicopter being there on the left, not to mention the pillar-esaue contraption at the center. Like… they’re the same picture.!

With them being credited right at that moment, it’s obvious this was an intentional nod to their previous work.

I just thought it was cool so I wanted to share, but in terms of my watch overall, there is a LOT going on that they could pull from. I’m only halfway through s1, though I’ve heard the show goes downhill in s2 so we’ll see how that goes 😂

OKAY. NEW SOTO CHARACTER INTRO TIME.

Meet Stephan Corsello~!

Former street urchin kid turned into the most scholarly sneak-thief you've ever met. He grew up picking pockets on the streets of Garenhoff and daydreaming about what fantastic magical goodies could be sealed away up in the Wizard's Tower (and what those magical goodies might be capable of).

It had always been a dream of his to be able to properly case the place. Make off with a few trinkets or a powerful relic -- nothing too noteworthy. He didn't want to pick a fight, after all. He'd just never had the chance to properly study magic and feels that artifacts are the closest he'll be able to get.

That was, until something happened to the tower, and the elementals ran wild.

As it turns out, he's not from our Garenhoff. He's from the fractal Garenhoff that spilled out of the Mists. When everything in his life upends and suddenly goes pear-shaped, he gets the bonus crisis of his entire concept of reality being overturned added shortly thereafter.

After being helped to safety by Wayfinder Arwn, and beginning to put together bits and pieces of what's happening around him, he insists on joining her to help other refugees of the shattered fractals. Now, as a new and somewhat inadvertent recruit to the Astral Ward, he accompanies her through the events of SotO to learn more about the world he came from, the world he's now in, and hopefully help stabilize the Mists.

He's got some serious lost puppy energy, and his lifelong dreams of daring adventurous capers are helping him... postpone a bit of the existential crisis of processing the reality of his existence. He can get to that later, when there aren't demons to worry about, right? Right??

MORE twister valley lore if anyone's interested. it's the first story of the fractured anthology both in the publishing order as well as [current] chronological order :] it doesn't mention calamity much yet because it's still very ~ mysterious ~ about the organization but two of the main characters are in fact part of it. they're the ones who brought the gang back together for "one last gig", because they were assigned the case on account of their history with tornadoes and they thought it would be a good idea to bring the team back together for it since they used to be the best in their field :]

Other interpretations that confuse me - Raglan saying to Daniel that other people have tried what he's doing but are now dead or turned. To me, that clearly meant other journalists have tried to investigate or interview vampires in general over the years but didn't survive the process.

I4's worldbuilding - an explanation about why vampires have never been discovered, why nobody's ever manage to publish even an exposé that was dismissed as fiction before Daniel. It's isn't that nobody's ever caught on to the existence of vampires, it's that humans who get too close to them end up dead or undead.

I do not think they meant to say Louis and Armand specifically have done multiple interviews with other journalists, who they ended up killing or turning.
