Buddie 612 meta
I don’t think we’ve had this much fodder with such few scenes in a long time, and I am LIVING!
Okay, so first of all I have to mention the parallel between 217, when the team was coming in, one by one, to see the suspended Bobby, and this ep, with everyone dropping by one at a time to be there for the recovering Buck. The similarity is of course in the found family connection. In both cases we see the importance of the absent member of the team through these visits. The difference is in the way the team came to Bobby because they need him to be there for them as their captain and friend even when he’s not on the job. But in Buck’s case, they don’t need anything. They’re coming by because they want to be there for him when he needs his team members and friends. Buck’s parents needed a reason to love him. Buck’s found family in this ep is loving him anyway. ~~
I’m gonna scream about the couch in a second, but I have to admit that while I was watching the ep, the moment that REALLY had my eyes shoot wide open and my breaths go into hyperventilation is when Maddie reads the note saying Buck has gone out. Because as soon as it was made clear Buck had chosen to escape his apartment and all of his visitors, I knew where he was headed. First off, the very fact that everyone else came to him, while Eddie was the one person Buck chose to go to already had me biting my fists. Once more, like in so many other cases (for example, when the lightning hit and Eddie was filmed differently to everyone else in the 118, or the way he was the only absent person in Buck’s dream and the only one Buck remembered without needing a physical object to jog his memory), Eddie is singled out as having a unique space in Buck’s life that no one else occupies. And of course there is this domestic quality and element of choosing each other as we see them repeatedly opening the door for and to get to the other one. ~~
But just think of the meaning! This man puppy, who only ever wanted to be loved and who’s being showered with attention and care, is absolutely restless because he’s having a hard time and feels like he has to pretend with the people he loves the most, and therefore he’s failing to fall asleep on his own couch. He seeks comfort in a connection that’s even deeper than the people who have been to see him, where he can really be himself without pretense. And that’s what’s insane, because he was visited among others by Maddie and Hen, his loving blood and adoptive big sisters. NO ONE can claim that his r/s with them is anything other than deep, and yet when he needed something more, when he needed an escape, when he needed a place where he could simply rest and be himself, he went to Eddie’s. This isn’t just Buck standing in Eddie’s kitchen declaring, “I’m not really a guest” in 311. This is him being more of a guest in his own apartment than in Eddie’s house. This is him being home and safe and able to JUST BE in Eddie’s space.
This is Buck beginning his healing by sleeping on the SAME couch where Eddie did in 514, connecting their healing in a parallel that is going to make me tear my own hair out. Which actually connects us back to 407, when Buddie talk about Buck’s need for his loft to be his safe space. Now it’s canon that this desired safe space is Eddie’s home, and I will chew through every piece of glass out there before I calm down from this. Once again, there are opposite sex canon couples on TV who never get this level of soulmate development! ~~
Oh, I also found it very interesting that Buck tells Maddie about his list he goes through every time he wakes up, to make sure he’s not in the coma world. We didn’t see him going through those steps when he woke up on Eddie’s couch. Remember how I said Eddie had to be absent in the dream world or Buck might not have made it out of there? Well, this ep adds to that. By virtue of being the only one who’s fully absent, it means Eddie is the one person whose very presence is a cue for Buck that he’s in the real world and safe, the only one who, by simply being there, negates the need for a list. I AM MELTING. (my gif, please excuse the awfulness) ~~
Speaking of soulmates bonding, I have to point out the opposite sex soulmates we do have in this very ep. Bobby confesses that Athena is it for him because she makes him feel like he’s standing on solid ground, she helps him be himself by finding again a piece of him.
We also see her becoming a part of his healing process when he allows her to come to his AA meeting. This is exactly what we see Buddie going through in 612! Eddie is Buck’s solid ground, the person he can count on and who can provide him with rest (that’s what solid ground represents), who allows him to simply be himself, and Eddie is also a part of the healing process that Buck allows him into by seeking out Eddie, and by opening up to him when Eddie asks him to, after finally getting some rest on the couch... ~~
That brings me to the couch because that in itself is just... Wow, this show really hates my nails and wants me to chew on them fully, I see how it is. Let’s not forget for how long the couch metaphor has been with us! Once Taylor and Buck discussed their couches situation when she was moving in with him in 513, and it was clear there was an incompatibility issue because she was bringing in a couch while he already had one (meaning they had already failed to communicate about this pretty basic point), it was clear they’d have to choose only one and dispose of the other. Very tellingly Taylor doesn’t really leave room for choice, so Buck (who only asked her to move in out of guilt) gave up his for hers. That’s the start of the couch being a metaphor for his romantic relationships, and I can’t believe it started a whole season before this ep! And then when Taylor moved out in 518, he was left with none? But that wasn’t unhinged enough for our show, so they brought it into an even greater focus with the lasagna scene in 601, when it was made even clearer that the “right couch” for Buck is about his romantic partner, that he’s aware of that significance, and that he admitted to it IN EDDIE’S PRESENCE. I can’t believe Buck fell asleep like that on Eddie’s couch, when they BOTH KNOW what the couch means. This is the most naked two men have ever been with each other on a TV show without taking their clothes off! Then Buck’s parents get him a couch he doesn’t want, one that’s all wrong for him, one he didn’t get to CHOOSE, so unsurprisingly he can’t sleep on it. That would have been a lot already, but then this ep turns around and SLAMS US IN THE FACE with Eddie’s couch being the right one for Buck to fall asleep on and to do so effortlessly! Two seconds on it, and Buck was out. That’s okay, 911, I just have to work a double shift while I’m sick today, I didn’t need to also have my sanity. You absolutely can have everything left of it. (my gif, please excuse it) ~~
I know it’ll sound dumb, but I was happy crying over the beers in Eddie’s fridge and the zoomed in shot we got of them. Look, it’s their thing, right? We’ve seen the two of them sipping on beers together in the iconic 309 kitchen scene (NGL, the oral sex scene in my Blue Against Blue fic was inspired by this), and it’s been a repeated theme, so when I saw Eddie had no less than 6 beers easily accessible in the top shelf of his fridge, chilling away, it screamed “This is my Buck stash” to me.
I will forever be a mess that Eddie Diaz, tough war veteran, actually has a supply of beers ready in his fridge for whenever soft man puppy Evan Buckley drops by unannounced. Can you imagine when Eddie goes grocery shopping and he probably smiles softly to himself when he buys his Buck beers? These two are so domestic and in love and equally soft about each other, it’s gross. And by gross I mean I love it, please gimme more. ~~
Oh, but the domesticity just keeps leveling up in this ep! Because then Buck wakes up and makes his way to the kitchen, where he just… lets Eddie take care of him by serving water. And it’s so tender and husbandy, and affectionate, and connects so perfectly to Eddie asking Buck to share with him. Because Buck wouldn’t let others fuss over him, but he lets his hubby take care of him. And he doesn’t tell others, even ones who are significant people in his life, where he’s really at, but he will share everything with Eddie. Not to mention that it doesn’t take much to get him to open up. All Eddie has to do is ask, and despite Buck’s initial announcement not to, he just goes right ahead and spills. I am inhaling and exhaling into the palms of my hands.
Of course, tucked in there is also Buck asking Eddie about the shooting. We all remember Buddie holding eye contact through that and Eddie reaching out to him, right? Or everything that transpired between them in the ambulance, all of it so romantically coded... This scene tells us that Eddie doesn’t remember those bits. I find it interesting to consider that maybe Eddie really doesn’t. That maybe the reason he hasn’t figured out yet how he feels for Buck is because he blanked out on the way he turned to Buck during the most intense moments of his life, and the ones he thought were his last. ~~
I mentioned during the hiatus in replies to asks I got that I suspected just like the distance between Buddie in 5a served to bring them closer together in 5b as Buck helped Eddie with his healing, the same structure was being followed in s6, just in the reverse, where Eddie will eventually help Buck. You can’t imagine how deep and meaningful I find it, that the show has actually structured these two seasons as counter paralleling each other, and showing Buddie as being a vital part of this mutual healing, so I tried to demonstrate that with this gifset. ~~
Last one! The cardiologist. Look, I already mentioned in my previous weekly meta that the heart theme started with Eddie, and then it was expanded to Buck. I find it insane that the show really hammered it home by having the same cardiologist be the doctor for both men, and that while she’s at it, she hints to both that their issues are not purely physical. How long before the metaphor-loving Buck catches on? IDK, but every single choice about this ep feels incredibly deliberate, when so much is condensed into so few scenes.
(my weekly meta posts) (my Buddie gifs) (all of my content)
~~ I can’t explain how much I’m asking of the amazing @whosoldherout for the gif requests, and the results are always so stunning, I’m deeply grateful!
~~ My tag list will follow in the reblog, please let me know if you wanna be added/removed here. Thank you in advance for any reblog and like! I’m sick and took three different medications to be semi-functional, so I really hope you’ll like this. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you did! xoxox

what are YOUR top 5 varchie eps
That's a tough one.
Only choosing 5 episodes out of a 100+ episodes show is insane.
Especially when we were blessed with so much content over the years. Let's try to do one for each season.
110 - I just think it's a very special/fun episode and I always have a good time watching it. Proves you don't need complicated plots, just character driven arcs that move the story forward. Plus we get to see their second kiss. Just like their first, it's something they simply can't deny themselves.
212 - VA was at the top of their game with this one. The scene in the church painting Archie as "her beacon in the night" with Veronica saying "I do." The struggles she faces with this light in her life that she doesn't want to taint and snuff out. And that whole speech at the end. An all you can eat buffet~
322 - Once again it's all about the dynamics. The big plot of the season has the spotlight but it's the different relationships portrayed and they focus on that truly make the finale special. Whenever they take the time to let the characters feel, it leads to good things. And I think we can all agree that their scene in the woods was amazing.
413 - It's Veronica driven and that's not something we get often. Whenever we actually get to focus on her POV, I'm up. She supported Archie for the first half of the season -- and for good reasons ofc -- but it was her time to be in need of a shoulder to cry on. And Archie didn't fail her. And in the midst of all the angst, we got some really sexy times.
517 - Don't get me wrong 508 is special. So special. But I don't think I'll ever be over their reunion in 517. And the episode in itself was actually good -- like the kind of good this show often lacks. It’s probably why a lot of people were hoping to go back there~ Their reunion. Archie being trapped in the mines. Veronica willing to do anything to get him out. Chef's kiss.
Am I going to choose something from s6? Well yes actually.
621 - I think you saw just how thrilled I was when 618 rolled around and we got consistent content from Veronica’s POV. Like I said, it’s not often. But that was very clear and it’s something we had gotten a glimpse of back in 612. (614 and 617 too) No, there’s very little chance I’m going to let that go~ But anyway, I’m choosing this one simply for the VA team up. It’s part of their dynamic. Being partners. And I definitely missed witnessing this on my screen.

Lyndy Abraham’s Introduction to Literary Alchemy
For those of you asking for an introduction to the basic concepts and history of alchemy, here is the beginning of Abraham’s Introduction in the Dictionary of Alchemical Imagery. (Boldface is mine.)
----------------------------------------
The origins of alchemy in Western culture can be traced back to the world of Alexandria and Hellenistic Egypt around 300 BC, when Greek science was flourishing. In Alexandria at this time, the art of alchemy developed in both Graeco-Egyptian and Hebraic cultures. The Arabs became interested in alchemy when they took Alexandria from the Byzantine Empire, and Islamic alchemical practice became well established by AD 750.
It was not until the twelfth century that the art of alchemy began to influence European culture, spreading there from the Arabs in Spain and Southern Italy. Pope John XXII’s papal bull of 1317 condemned the practice of alchemy, forcing it to retreat underground. By the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, however, it had become an intellectually respectable, if controversial, discipline, and the great passion of the age. At this time alchemy was considered to be a significant scientific and philosophical thought system which provided a mode of perceiving substances, processes, relationships, and the cosmos itself. In its various manifestations – as the inquiry into chemical substances, the search for the new ‘chymicall’ medicines, the scientific observation of the processes of nature, as an esoteric philosophy and cosmology, and as an exploration of the act of creation itself– alchemy flourished in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Europe. Alchemical theory was a dynamic force in the various influences which came together to form an intelligent explanation of the world. Some of the most famous names of the day in England pursued the art of alchemy – Sir Philip Sidney and Sir Edward Dyer, Sidney’s sister Mary Herbert,Countess of Pembroke, Sir Walter Raleigh and his half-brother Adrian Gilbert, Henry Percy, ninth Earl of Northumberland, the mathematician Thomas Harriot, Edward Kelly and Dr John Dee, George Villiers, second Duke of Buckingham, Anne, Viscountess Conway, Samuel Hartlib, Isaac Newton, and King Charles II. The rising physicians of the day were the Paracelsian alchemists, and the revolutionary new chemical medicines, which began to replace traditional Galenic herbal practice, were introduced into the pharmacopoeia in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries in England by these pioneering ‘chymists’.
It is becoming increasingly clear that Hermetic and alchemical thought deeply influenced Elizabethan and Jacobean culture, and that writers of the stature of Shakespeare, Jonson, Donne, Marvell, Cleveland, Milton and Dryden drew on the rich source of alchemical imagery for their writing. The satiric reference to alchemy in the work of such writers as Thomas Nashe, Ben Jonson and John Donne is well known. But alchemical metaphor was used to express deep philosophical and spiritual truths as frequently as it was used as a subject for satire and comedy. When, in ‘Resurrection Imperfect’, Donne wrote of the crucified Christ as ‘all gold when he lay down’ but ‘All tincture’ when he rose, capable of transmuting ‘leaden and iron wills to good’, he was using alchemical terms to express a deep spiritual vision of the transforming power of Christ’s love. And when, in Paradise Lost, Milton wrote of the ‘arch-chemic sun’ whose fields and rivers ‘Breathe forth elixir pure’ and run ‘potable gold’(3.606–9),it is a living, working, spiritual alchemy that is referred to, a spiritual alchemy in contrast to the material alchemy which ‘here below / Philosophers in vain so long have sought’(3.595–612). Alchemy provided a vibrant model for denoting physical, psychological, spiritual and cosmological concepts, and the writers of this era naturally drew on its rich symbolism for their art.
The impact of alchemical concepts and imagery on culture has not been confined to late Renaissance Europe. From King Lear’s ‘Ripeness is all’ to the young golfer in P.G.Wodehouse, seeking the secret of the game ‘like an alchemist on the track of the Philosopher’s Stone’,alchemy has provided abundant material for the creative imagination. As alchemy separated itself into a materialist chemistry and an esoteric spiritual discipline in the eighteenth century, what had been a more or less unified ‘art’ divided into two strands. The materialist chemical project continued, and alchemy’s heritage is still present in terms like ‘alcohol’ and ‘bain-Marie’, as well as in the discovery of such substances as nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, ammonia, sugar of lead and some compounds of antimony.
Nevertheless, the esoteric, spiritual component of alchemy kept on, and has continued to provide a major source of material for research in the field of psychology by such thinkers as Herbert Silberer, Carl Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz in the twentieth century, and for writers and visual artists from Dryden, Pope, Goethe, Joseph Wright of Derby and Browning, through to the nineteenth-century Symbolists, Victor Hugo, Marcus Clarke, W.B.Yeats, August Strindberg, Antonin Artaud ,Max Ernst, Paul Klee, Laurence Durrell,Ted Hughes, Vladimir Nabokov, Marguerite Yourcenar and Jackson Pollock.
[NB Abraham does not include any fantasy writers in her list, but I’d add Eddison, Tolkien, Goudge, C S Lewis, Rowling, and GRR Martin, among others.]
In alchemical treatises from the Middle Ages until the end of the seventeenth century, including tracts by Isaac Newton, alchemical ideas were expressed in coded language, in emblem, symbol and enigma.... One reason for this practice was the desire of the adept to hide alchemical truth from the ‘ungodly, foolish, slouthful and unthankefull hypocrites’ (R. Bostocke, in ep,62).Thus the expression of ideas was made deliberately obscure. The alchemists openly stated that they were using an enigmatic mode of discourse.

It’s so clear that the writers never wanted to bring Sean back. Look at how ABC is promoting this. You have all SM accounts posting Robin/Sean related stuff. They put him in the promos (even if it’s just for a second). They made sure to take stills to promote the show with him (I don’t think he had that many stills in all of S5 combined).
And then you have A&E. Sean is back for 5 eps but really can you actually count the 20 seconds in 610? 611 has him featured nicely. No complaints from me. 612 is barely about his arc. He is in the ep for like 5-6 minutes. The rest is about a story that was only there so Hook can be revealed as the killer and so it can later mess with CS. I think you could have easily cut about 10 minutes of the David/Hook/David’s father story and could have given it to Robin and it wouldn’t have made a difference in the David/Hook story at all and would have helped with the Robin arc. 613 appears to be focused on Rumple. Robin and his arc will probably be featured the same amount as in 612. I don’t have much hope that much will come off this episode. And then there is 614. His last episode which according to Lana is a Regina/EQ centric episode. From set reports it appears that Sean worked a lot on that episode but who knows how much will actually be in this ep. Half of his stuff will probably end up being cut like in 521.
It’s just sad that you have an actor for a very limited amount of time and you still don’t use him and instead make his arc the B or even the C plot of an episode.
The writers should have given this arc, which is oh so freakin short already, I mean 4 episodes really, more focus than they have done so far. It’s just sad that they couldn’t incorporate the main characters into the Robin arc instead of giving them their own story that is taking over. That way they could have given Robin and OQ real closure that felt like they really care.

Monday Morning Rewatch Thoughts 612
THIS EP GUYS THIS EP (minus the last 5 min) WAS THE GREATEST
I love the toast at the beginning omg little moments like these i need more. Also Killian needs to be able to take off his damn jacket lol (but seriously...) ( I feel like this shouldn’t bother me as much as it does)
Killian in Therapy, like bless, he needs it I was so happy they actually did this! AND THE RING AND EVERYTHING
OMG LITTLE DAVID LIKE I CAN’T “When you get back, are you really going to be better?” JUST RIP OUT MY HEART WHY DON’T YOU
Oh no Killian waiting at the loft’s door and all nervous AH
Killian’s list of why Emma’s better for this and then David saying Killian being a pirate is what he needs and Killian’s dejected face and the music and ;____;
“Come on, Buddy, it’s just me here.” first of all, David you dork. Second, Killian, smack him. Give him a left hook. Make him see what an ass he is being!
God I love imp Rumple he is always so fun and just Bobby kills it.
UGH THAT CS SCENE
ACTUAL TALKING OF FEELINGS AND SEMI SPINNY KISS HELP
though I do hope Killian actually did talk to Archie about that shit and he wasn’t just saying it but you know it was all true regardless and I cry
EVERYTHING ABOUT THE POTIONS SCENE THOUGH omg I am so in love with that scene you don’t even know and Killian trying to crack a joke awkwardly what a DORK I LOVE YOU
Pleasure Island is fucking creepy
My God, that scene with David breaking down is just so amazing and holy Shit why has Josh Dallas not gotten more bc wow. And Killian just pulling him back, I am emotional.
“There’s one way not to lose your family is to let it grow.” HELP and then when David was silent and Killian’s fecking dejected head shake MY HEART!!
UGH and now the bad part.
Okay, I do feel a little better rewatching it. Killian killed the Kings men we all know he has no qualms really there because of Liam and then he killed David’s father so he wouldn’t speak about it. Okay. I would just like a wee bit more motivation there because of every other bad thing he’s done that we’ve been shown has had more so it really feels odd. And that’s not me glossing over his past or making it look better than it was, but the reality while it was bad bc murder is bad, his past isn’t as bad as Rumple and Regina’s and it feels like they harp on it as if it was. And if they had planned this from the beginning rather than throwing it in there for ANOTHER hurdle Killian has to over come bc apparently his torture and everything he went through in season 5 wasn’t enough, I wouldn’t mind because then you know it was planned and it would probably make a bit more sense than this. But, after having calmed down some and rewatching it with fresh eyes and not immediately being like “AADFKLD NO we had to go there didn’t we...” when he first popped on screen for that scene, I am a bit better now and I am excited? def mixed with nervous. Even if there will always be quite a bit of salt underneath it all....... (headcanons to make it better. why did it have to be this way?) (Ohhh another headcanon Idea: Killian says load it up boys Pan will be pleased, idk something like that, and mention how he said leave no one or some shit idk it would just feel better with what we’ve seen of his character.)
#jenna's OUAT thoughts#monday morning rewatch#612#meta#5#ouat spoilers#ouat negativity#though there is hardly any#and i'm shocked#bc last night i was livid lol

The collaboration later expanded to a fully-validated workflow that enabled in-house milling of dental restoration on any compatible milling machine, and most recently, at the Chicago Midwinter Meeting 2020, we announced the unique exocad Connector. “I am excited by the enormous growth opportunity for exocad and its customers that comes with being a part of Align Technology,” said Tillmann Steinbrecher, CEO and co-founder of exocad. “Together, we will further strengthen exocad’s position as a key technology provider for the dental CAD/CAM industry and drive continuous innovation with the open and integrated approach that is the foundation of our company.” Exocad will continue to operate as it exists today, enabling it to support a broad ecosystem of partners and end-users and continue to deliver hardware-independent software solutions. exocad co-founders Tillmann Steinbrecher and Maik Gerth, along with their team, are expected to remain after the transaction closes and report into John Morici, Align Technology, senior vice president and CFO. “The acquisition of exocad adds a talented and passionate team as well as a highly innovative, industry-leading product suite to our portfolio, providing an excellent complement to our current workflow solutions,” said Morici. “We will continue to invest in and build on exocad’s leadership in the dental CAD/CAM market and look to them to make significant contributions to Align’s overall strategy.” Under the terms of the agreement, Align will pay approximately EUR376 million in cash to acquire exocad, which is majority owned by Carlyle Europe Technology Partners (CETP.) The acquisition is expected to close during the second quarter of 2020. Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC is serving as exclusive financial advisor to Align. UBS Investment Bank is serving as exclusive financial advisor to exocad and funds managed or advised by CETP. Align anticipates that the acquisition of exocad is expected to be gross margin accretive, reflecting the strength of exocad’s software business. We expect GAAP EPS to be dilutive for the fiscal year 2020, due to acquisition-related costs. Align Web Cast and Conference Call Align will host a conference call today, March 4, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. ET, 1:30 p.m. PT, to discuss the acquisition of exocad. Another amazing meta. 💙❤️ Every time I feel doubt creeping in on whether buddie will go canon, I head to your meta to remind myself that it'll be a crime not to follow through.
And this week's was... wow. So much happened in only a handful of scenes. That "solid ground" line from Bobby. The second I saw the GIFs for it I instantly thought there's another Buddie/Bathena parallel.
But the moment that really got me was Eddie return to the couch with beers only to find Buck asleep. It reminded me of the trope where the couple who haven't seen each other for a while, are all set to get jiggy, one goes to the bathroom and comes back to their partner sparko on the bed and sighs. So when you said it's the most naked they could be without removing their clothes, I understood you completely.
I honestly looking forward to the rest of the season, especially their date night. ☺️
Hello, my darling! Thank you SO MUCH for the kind words about my 612 meta! :D I'm so happy that you liked it. And honestly, every aspect of Bathena in this ep (though that "solid ground" line was probably the highlight) screamed that they're paralleled with Buddie. It was stunning!
YES! Hon, that is exactly it. Because whenever that trope happens, we're not meant to read it as "these two aren't interested in each other," we're meant to understand that they have reached THOSE levels of domesticity, of comfort. And that's what we see with Buddie in this ep.
I'm very much looking forward to their date night as well! I still can't believe no one else posted this spoilers pic of their poker night before I did. I was so sure I couldn't be the first one, it's why I phrased it as a question... But it makes me so happy the entire fandom went crazy over it, 'coz yeah, same! That poker game scene is gonna DELIVER. I just know it.
If it's okay, since you sent me a second ask and I'm falling behind, I might answer it here too, if it's alright with you?
Omg that anon just made me realize that it's not just the couch Buck hasn't really picked. So he was living with friends (frat house as the anon called it), then Abby's apartment, and then he chose the loft with Ally, obviously expecting it to be there home (and I may be misremembering but wasn't it her choice). I can't believe I never realized that.
I don't hate the loft either, and your right, it fits his bachelor lifestyle. It definitely feels like a bachelor pad, but now I can't get over the fact he didn't choose it alone, for himself.
This is in continuation to the anon asking about the loft. You're both absolutely right! From the way Buck and Ali interact with the sales lady, it's clear that Ali HAS a lot of say, and that she saw Buck's loft as the place that would be her other home. Did she have the final say? We don't know. But at the end of the day, the way he presents it is that this would be the first place he gets on his own.
So IDK, I'm still mostly positive about the loft. Did he choose alone? No. 'Coz he did have a gf he was committed to, and even if they weren't at the stage of fully living together, they were on the road there (a bit similar to how we saw Taylor in his loft in 5a, TBH. And yes, that very much strengthens the similarity to how he didn't choose the couch). But he was so enthused about being "an adult" who supports himself and is paying for his place on his own. I can't overlook that. And much like the whole idea of how a journey through the wrong r/s is needed in order to find the right one, that's how I kind of feel about the loft. It's not Buck's ultimate destination (that's Eddie's house), but it is an important step on the way there...
Thank you, darling! Hope you have a beautiful day! As always, here's my ask tag. xoxox

Recordings and Audio With Betsy
Accessible forms of mass communication have drastically changed over the last 60 to 70 years. Presently, everything is available at our fingertips within seconds. We can simply tap a small box on a screen and stream the newest music, find listings of breaking news, and see what all our friends are doing during every second of every day. However, for people born in the mid-20th century, things are worlds different now than when they were growing up. From the 40’s up to about the 80’s, technology was limited, and sometimes it was difficult to gain access to the newest music and popular culture.
In 1956, Betsy was in 6th Grade. Her family didn’t have a ton of money, so she had limited access to vinyl records. It was very popular back then for lower- middle-class kids to steal records from stores, but Betsy never did. A few times one of her friends stole some and offered them to her, but she never accepted because she said she would feel guilty for not paying. Betsy loved Elvis, listening to and watching the Dick Clark show, and she loved learning the dances on the show every Friday night.
When Betsy got lucky and LEGALLY acquired a record, she played it on a RCA plastic record player in her bedroom.

However, while she did have access to a record player, she was somewhat restricted in what she could listen to. Her father didn’t like Jerry Lee Lewis because his “dance moves and language were suggestive”, and Little Richard played a similar style of music and was a black man as well, so Betsy didn’t get to indulge in their music as often even though she did like it. Betsy rarely listened to the radio, but when her husband or sister did they used the dial radio and listened to 710 because it played Rock ‘N Roll, which during the early 50’s was also seen as suggestive and “cutting edge”, if you will.
-Jerry Lee Lewis

Betsy doesn’t play any instruments but she always loved listening to church and gospel music; she loved singing with a big crowd. During her childhood and teenage years, concerts weren’t a very popular event, musicians usually went on TV and radio shows, but her parents “probably wouldn’t have allowed her to go anyway. When she grew out of her teenage years, Betsy began getting into audio books, NPR, old western music, and African-American gospel music. These genres are still what she prefers today.
As the 20th century pressed on, radio became the more prominent form of listening to music and records sort of “went out”, but Betsy still didn’t enjoy the radio the way she enjoyed her vinyl’s. If she did listen to the radio, however, besides listening to Rock ‘N Roll, Betsy would tune into Gun Smoke- a 30-minute EP- Jack Benny, and Burns and Allen.

She usually only listened to the radio in the car and when she was hanging out with her sister in her sister’s bedroom. At night, they would hide the radio under the covers with the volume lower, so the lights of the device wouldn’t show and the volume was muffled, allowing them to listen to music without getting caught by their parents. They thought their parents didn’t know, but they knew they did this every night.
-Old Radio

After World War 2, the post war economy caused Americans to spend more money because prices were down and need was up. Advertising for appliances went through the roof and jingles started to become a prominent form of communication seen in American culture. Betsy loved to listen to all the different jingles companies could come up with and enjoyed that they were incorporating music into their advertising. Until satellite and antennae radio came out, Betsy still didn’t find total satisfaction in listening to the radio because there was always static, too many commercials, and you had to move the antennae around to find a connection. However, teenagers typically listened to AM radio because that was where the music was played, and FM was more informational and news-related.
- Coca Cola jingle commercial

Over the last 6 or 7 decades, the forms and accessibility of mass communication have changed and improved immensely. During the 40’s and 50’s, it was hard for people to always listen to new music because vinyl records were expensive and radios weren’t always reliable. However, Betsy found a way, and you can still find her listening to her gospel music and old country on the AM radio waves!
