Can you tell me your favourite thing about Vernon Roche?
Bless you for following the pspsps anon, thank you
As for my favourite thing about Roche,,, there are truly so many things i love about him, but my favourite one has to be his loyalty. spoilers for witcher 2 ahead, but the fact that he saves Geralt's life and helps him get to Henselt even after Geralt essentially betrayed him just means so much to me. It means the entire world.
Like... Geralt was discovered with his sword drawn over Foltest's dead corpse, with nothing but an outlandish killer monk story to defend himself from the accusation. Roche took a risk and not only believed Geralt, but freed and saved him from the gallows. they make it to Flotsam, and Geralt sails away with Iorveth, essentially deserting Roche and their deal. But even with this, Roche helps Geralt get to Henselt, something that, if caught, could cost him his life. Roche could've died for that if they'd been caught, and still he helped Geralt.
And then in witcher 3, he welcomes Geralt like an old friend regardless of which path he chose in the previous game (true, the welcome is a bit warmer if you chose his path, but still). This man is so fiercely loyal to his chosen people, and I think that's something he and Geralt have in common, because Geralt will also choose his loved ones over what's objectively right.
Yeah, THAT'S my favourite thing about Vernon Roche

Episode 2.10 Gray Matters, noting Joshua Jackson's performance especially in this episode. When Peter is unusually agitated and frantic, he picks up on Walter mannerisms, in body language and hand movements, and Josh Jackson does that so subtly and so well it's already happening before you can register it. And now I'm looking at John Noble and thinking maybe Walter has some Peter mannerisms. The bond between Peter and Walter is so strong and yet Peter doesn't often call Walter "dad" -- he does refer to him as "my father" but he most often directly addresses him as "Walter," and it makes sense, Walter was absent most of Peter's life. And it was Peter's choice to not visit Walter at St. Claire's too. Also Anna Torv being master of the subtle micro-expressions. When Peter and Olivia are terrified that Walter's dead, Peter's openly emoting, and Olivia's face goes blank, you actually can see the moment Olivia has to shut it all down and is actively holding herself together so she doesn't fall apart. And then when Walter's okay, she goes from that flat crisis face to brushing away tears.
This ep is so tragic because of the parts of himself Walter has lost, but Walter from before is not the same Walter and as Olivia points out, from what she knows of Walter before, he is a gentler better person now. But Walter before still had the big heart at his center or he wouldn't have done what he did and we know from Peter's stories or small info drops of information about his childhood, Walter was very involved in his son's life. Walter before was more of an asshole and he was harder, but he wasn't a monster and he did love strongly.
John Noble's performance and the layers and layers on Walter Bishop--he's one of the most compelling characters in genre tv.

For @sansebastinae and @boisinnot, my fellow saint seb truthers :)
+ the usual
Yayyyy finished a drawing! Haha only took me...2 weeks. I kept going back and forth on whether I could finish it tonight, and I really wasn't going to. But then I looked at the unfinished version on a different screen and was like oh? Not too bad actually?? So I finished it :) First of all, ofc, here is the process. Kinda weird seeing it for smth like this, it makes me feel like I'm the painter in rennaisance au, not Mark dhjfkf
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ah I was gonna draw a silly renaissance au comic to accompany this(read: lighten the mood), but it's 5 am and I've still not really drafted it well, so! I'd like to finish it at some point bcs I wanna draw more chibi comics, but when I finish smth, I can't help but immediately want to post it, so part 2 will have to wait. I'll show you the outline though so you can at least imagine 😭
Tumblr media
^ So many renaissance and beyond paintings of Saint Sebastian are always the most horny thing ever. Like pre/early rennaisance, yeah he was naked and all that, but they were pretty chaste, and uhhhhh suffering?? Well the newer paintings are suffering, but in a different way, if you know what I mean.
So I feel like Mark's the type to be overly pedantic about it, and refuses to make borderline porn of a saint, I mean, god forbid, Seb!!! But then he just. Does anyways. Because he can't control his lust for Seb even when drawing him half dead. I just imagine him holding the paintbrush in a death grip like "must not be horny. Must not draw him sexy. Must make him chaste." And then he ends up with the one seen above. Seb is all smug about it. "Wow you'd wanna fuck me even while I'm all bloody and dying? 🥺"
Mark: "oh I'll make you bloody, alright."
But god so funny to imagine Seb doing all these different slutty poses, like arching his back as much as possible, the cloth nearly falling off at all times, etc etc. And Mark finally lands on this pose bcs he hopes the suffering will outweigh the horny. It doesn't. Also Seb is genuinely serious once he actually gets into the pose, focus mode on. And honestly that's even worse for Mark, bcs it's so much more arousing to see Seb in his element, focused. Tbf I think Seb could be drinking water, and Mark would still find some way to sexualize it. Don't look at his sketches!! They're just filled with Seb doing all kinds of random activities.
Also! Here is the painting I referenced this off of, must give credit where credit is due ofc

The Dying St. Sebastian by François Fabre
Also this isn't really relevant in the context of this drawing specifically. But I looked thru a bunch of Saint Sebastian paintings while trying to find one I could reference, and I came across this middle ages one that actually looks so much like boy king seb 😭 I guess it really is meant to be!

St Sebastian between St Roch and St Peter by Pietro Perugino
Lmao but do you see the difference between early rennaisance and later work???

Transformers: Mosaic #538 - "Lament"
Originally posted on September 3rd, 2010
Story, Script, Letters - Seb Script - HdE Art - Roy Stiffey
deviantART | Seibertron | TFW2005 | BotTalk
wada sez: This Crosscut spotlight is absolutely the funniest Mosaic I've read in ages. On deviantART, Seb said: “Well, my dictionary defines 'soliloquy' as "the act of a character speaking to himself so as to reveal his thought to the audience" (whereas 'colloquy' would be a regular conversation between 2 parties). Technically, Crosscut doesn't 'speak' here, which makes this a 'monologue' instead of 'soliloquy', but since the piece is all about big words, the latter one sounds way more 'literate' ;p”. HdE added: “With LAST STAND OF THE WRECKERS, Roche and Roberts gave us the horrors of war, musings on insanity, sacrifice, betrayal and a huge helping of death and destruction. With LAMENT, Seb and HdE give their audience... big words. And waffle. Lots of waffle. Mmm... waffles... [...] Our intention here was to put Crosscut over as being far-too-verbose and serious for his own good. But hopefully, you can still feel a pang of pity for him at the end.” See below for a mirrored version of Seb’s full commentary for the strip, originally shared to his own deviantART account, along with clean colors and even an Italian translation.
Now to explain the not-so-pure motivation behind this piece, sigh.... :) Mainly, there are two reasons:
1) I was always amazed (not always positively) by how TF fandom takes pride in (sometimes even competitive) knowledge of insanely obscure trivia, situations and characters from within the franchise. In 25+ years, said franchise has accumulated an insane number of somethings than can, depending on the case in question, be labeled as a character, "character", pitiful excuse for a "character", and pitiful excuse for a word "character". No matter, for as long as someone is "official" (appeared in some officially sanctioned part of the franchise), poor he/she/it "deserves some love", regardless of the fact that 2 minutes of someone's mental effort can result in a MUCH better "character".
This is only partly "derogatory", for I myself indulge in such things. I'm poking fun at myself as well. :D
Now, I knew this had to be pulled of with a Mosaic starring Crosscut - a (let's face it) pitiful excuse for a word "character" who appeared only on 2 panels of a Marvel TF issue from '86, the first one depicting him in a glow of energy while testing the Space bridge, the second one depicting him explode into pieces due to Bridge's faulty fuel line....but one thing had set him apart from all the others "hi-then-die" guys - he was NAMED.
So, the idea was giving that sorry li'l dude a back-story most profound, not knowing what it'll be. And it waited....
2) I had a discussion with HdE about overly serious and over-the-top writing bursting with pathos that can be seen in writing in general, and how a whole lotta NOTHING can be disguised with big, dramatic words. The talk (d)evolved into a hilarious exchange of pretentious and verbose pseudo-poetic ramblings, and thus the idea of Crosscut the Poet was born!
I compiled that pompous mumbo-jumbo, adapted it for the situation, added quite an amount of equally verbose pretentious fillers, distributed it among the panels and sent the draft to HdE. He Shakespeare-ized the ramblings even further (which I didn't think was possible, but it was!), added several additional juicy passages, and VOILA!
All the script needed was master Roy to bring this fragile beauty and innocent vulnerability to life! :)
...and here it is - a blank slate given the deepest depth imaginable. ;)

Works in Progress (December 2022)
So, NaNoWriMo is over, and despite my vague allusions to checking in throughout the month, i haven't done so. Which was to be expected, but it does mean this update is long overdue.
First and foremost: I finished NaNo! This is my 9th year in a row of completing the 50k goal, and it's been maybe the most pleasant one so far. I genuinely enjoyed working on my projects, and my progress was consistent throughout the month. More or less. I never fell behind, which is the important bit.
What did i work on? I'm glad you asked, audience in my head. I worked on a multi-chapter Geralt/Roche fic which, in true Seb fashion, is turning out to require many more words to be told than I anticipated. I thought it might be around 50k in total, but so far I'm not even halfway through the plot and it's already 40k strong. So Geroche fans, you're in for some food here.
Aside from that, I completed some one-shots (and a one-shot collection) I've posted throughout November, namely "Not So Silent Graves", "Through All my Years With You", and "Somewhere in The Boudoirs of Novigrad". I'm pretty happy with all of them, but I definitely do have a favourite (it's the smut. Who would've thunk).
There's also a fic I started that I haven't finished yet, and I'm not sure I ever will, to be honest. It involves empress Ciri meeting Anais after her coronation. Just two girlbosses girlbossing. It's very unpolished, and I have no idea where I'm going with it. Most of it came to me during a train ride and by the time I got to writing it down I'd forgotten half of it, which put a damper on my motivation.
In the past few days I've slowly started to write again after a (long) week's break. Every year after NaNo I tell myself I deserve a few days of not writing at the start of December, and those few days turn into a week or more of procrastination. It always happens, and it's difficult to get back into it, but i manage. I'm continuing my Geralt/Roche fic, even though I'm a bit stuck on the scene I'm currently writing.
That's it for now, and it'll be the last update of 2022. Goodbye you bastard of a year, I'll probably miss you once 2023 inevitably turns out to be worse.

Ackles' Chaos Machine posts a message on instagram wishing everyone happy pride on anniversary of Stonewall riots. The post says "At Chaos Machine, we believe in inclusivity and celebrating love. We love all of our LGBTQ+ family. We stand with you and we're excited to portray diverse intersectional stories". Fans become little tiny bit more hopeful when it comes to the prequels.
Seb Roche's tweet using words "gutted" and "bravo" is speculated about. Given his very... Specific... Sence of humor, it can be not entierly coincidental
What will happen tomorrow?
