Time for my DWTS thoughts!! S33 Ep2
Spoilers BTC and a lot of typos (sorry!)
okay oscars night yayyy i like the lineup so far and also i would bet money that illona does the dirty danving lift
YAY Jen first okay first of all this song makes me think of Riker Lynchs dance to the same song many seasons ago. And that dance WAS SO GOOD so unfortunately I am comparing them subconsciously. Okay first of all the pink! pop off HMMM that beginning was strange to me, also its wayyy too fast imo, idk if they can choose the speed also choreo not my fav but its not Jens fault (im looking at you sasha) the scores, i hate to say it but i think its deserved
AWWWWW britt is so sweet and this is actually making me emotional BRITTS DRESS IS GORGEOUS YES GO ERIC that was actually beautiful DEREK WHAT YOU HORRIBLE MAN OMG WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT the audible gasp that came out of my mouth dude
Dannys lucky because he has whitney as a partner whitney hot as usual better facials , props, he needs cleener lines man, but he kept up well so good aw he looks so happy (ps i hate top gun)
poor ezra, okay heres my take on anna no i dont think she should be on the show, however im not going to be an asshole because shes here. honestly i think shell go one of these first weeks because people wont vote, so im going to watch and just vibe i do agree, she did pretty okay but she needs more energy/emotions
REGINALDDDD geez derek what are you on tonight
chandler chandler i love you BEAUTIFUL GORGEOUS AMAAING shes going to go all the way omg this is actuallt so beautiful my only thing is she mightve needed more hip action?? i feel like rumbas have alot of hip we'll see what the judges say SHE WAS made for dancing she did make it look easy shes so real
i love reginald hes so cute AHAHA hes so funny emmas dress is gorg go dude go, so far im really proud wtf feel from the ceiling in the beginning tho (ive never seen die hard) carrie ann is so right steven next hes so fun DEREK WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU
i forget steven has so much muscle i am a person who thinks tha tsteven is more of a peter parker than superman BUT THAT WAS SO GOOD overall that was really good and hes so entertaining i do feel like he has trouble getting back into hold sometimes but thats hardly a concern okay yes Bruno i agree, just a bit more finesse that was the best fucking answer stephen could you get any better
w song for jenna, shes so beautiful lady gaga supremacy oh dude chill out its a dance and you have to act sorry hes just a normal guy i need to be more forgiving his ryhthm seems off, but could jsut be me
phaedra did good still needs a bit of tecnique refinement but overall that was super good
some of toris spins were super nice but not enough content
first of city of stars slaps second daniella is so smart that was super super good like that frame was better than some of these guys who have normal heights so real bruno that spin was gorgeous
imma be honest yall i dont like brooks, idk she irks me therfor i will not comment a lot "so connected" omg rme theyre definetley fucking wait that was actually good i like how i said im not gonna comment alot and here i am BRUNO AH OMG it was good in hold, her lines were nice gleb fucked upp cause he very distracted wink wink AHAH ezra and rylee in the back
YASSSSS ILONA i lover herrrr also the lfit fucked up the thing a littl but she got back on track overall good much better and shes seems so HAPPY ilona is iconic she was much lighter on her feet this week
hmmm im conflicted im thinking anna and eric ohhhh i was wrong aw jennas oh thats us LOL i hope tori goes sorry not sorry i liek reginal wayyy more YAS aw i like pasha poor ezra
okay earlier i was being sympathetic with anna but with that final response its an absolute know (im sorry im a hypocrite)

Dancing with the Stars Season 33 Week 7: Something's Gotta Give
So Jenn was eliminated and I honestly was not shocked. She was the most obvious choice for elimination last week, even with the overscoring of 4 couples. She had her best dance of the season though, so it was a good note for them to go out on. Now before I get into anyone else, I need to vent a bit about the mess that we dealt with last week.
The scoring was atrocious. I am still frustrated by it. Let me tell you why. Ilona came out and while she gave a respectable routine, there were some issues. A 24 was a normal score and definitely deserved. But when you look at Dwight, Joey and Danny's dances and how CAI gave them all 10s (and Bruno giving Joey a 10 as well) while they all had OBVIOUS technical issues, it makes it seem like Ilona was horrible while they all completely knocked it out of the park. And while they did well, they were closer to Ilona in terms of execution than the judges made it seem.
So you think that's it, right? That it can't get any worse? Well, we get to Chandler's dance and it was perfect. You couldn't see a mistake under a microscope. And yet CAI tells her that she can't give her a perfect score because it has more criteria than contemporary and the Argentine tango. What that means? None of us know. She doesn't even know. It's also bull because the Argentine tango has quite a bit of criteria in order to be good and she KNOWS how to properly judge a contemporary dance. And when questioned by Chandler on what she can do to improve (because this is maybe the 4th week that she hasn't gotten an actual critique from her), instead of answering, she hid.
So here's where I'm at. We cannot play these foolish games on this show. Not with scoring. This is how you get dumb results. This is how someone like Tinashe or Demarcus gets eliminated early. This is how you get someone like a Joe Amabile getting 5th and a Bobby Bones winning the whole thing. Is anyone this season like those two? No. BUT, there was a legit chance that we could've lost Ilona or Chandler prematurely. Heck, we still can lose them. Y'all remember how Nastia and Simone were both unjustly eliminated in the semis on their respective seasons? That's because the judges kept zeroing in on complete nonissues in their dances (the same exact thing they're zeroing in on for Chandler). After a while, GP starts to believe it and they vote that way too. I refuse to let them do this and then continue to blame us for wonky results when it's on them! The judges shoulder the vast majority of the blame when those things happen. Yeah, the viewers have blame too. But when the judges' scores count for 50% of the overall total, they have to be more responsible with this. I'm sick of them just doing what tf ever, just like CAI basically admitted to last week. Dwight was out of sync at points. Danny was hunched over and his footwork needed a lot of work. Joey also had footwork issues and his lifts were kinda rough. Jenn was probably the cleanest of them all, but there was one part that was kind of messy toward the end. We need to call things out across the board.
So where does that leave us? Simply put, we need a 4th judge on the panel that can keep everyone in check. Bruno is not that cuz he has his moments too. Derek clearly can't be that person and he be on some bs too. We need someone else that is going to force the judges to respect the integrity of the competition and the dances. Things like this can quickly turn folks away from this show. I've been watching for almost 20 years and I damn near gave up on the season and probably the show at the moment CAI whipped out a 9 for Chandler after giving out 4 undeserved 10s while also acknowledging they were undeserved and also letting us know she had no real reason to not give Chandler a 10. You see how stupid that looks? It felt stupid for me to type that out.
Listen, I sound like a broken record at this point. But the scoring has to be better and it has to be consistent. I'm more mad this week because this was the most egregious occurrence that I have ever seen. You don't get that together, you kill your show. Conrad, come here. Get your talent together. Y'all flying a little too close to the sun right now.
That's all that I have. I pretty much gave my thoughts on each dance in this rant, so I won't do too much more. I'll just say that Stephen had a great night and I'm glad he got a moment to have a really great dance.
My Scores
1 Chandler and Brandon- 30 2 Stephen and Rylee- 28 3 Jenn and Sasha- 27 4 Dwight and Daniella- 26 5 Joey and Jenna- 25 6 Ilona and Alan- 24 = Danny and Witney- 24

It's Season 33!
I didn't get a chance to watch the premiere live as I was on vacation in Disney World. I was off having fun in Hollywood Studios instead. But I'm back, I've seen it and there's still a good chance this will be a double post with the second episode.
But for now, let's get the season started!
The show opened with a big number featuring all our pros and the new troupe members. It's great seeing the troupe getting some love again. While they've been there in the background, it's time for them to shine again. After all, many pros started in the troupe and so who knows who will be the next breakout star from this group?
Alfonso and Julianne are back to host while our judging panel again is comprised of Carrie Ann, Derek and Bruno. Thirteen stars are competing for the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy. No one was eliminated in Week 1 so we get another week to get to know all 13 better.
So let's meet our stars as they dance to their personal anthems!
Chandler and Brandon: I'm not too familiar with Chandler as I don't watch Pretty Little Liars or the Zombies movies (though I do watch the Descendants ones) but I do like her. She's bubbly and sweet and has a good connection with Brandon. Her tango to Chappell Roan's "Hot to Go" has set the bar for the season - Carrie Ann even set so - and I look forward to seeing how she progresses. I'm definitely rooting for her.
Dwight and Daniella: They really like pairing Daniella with tall contestants, don't they? I think Jason has been the closest in height to her. If Iman towered over her, Dwight is practically a giant next to her at 6'11. Thankfully they had the salsa first so that allowed Dwight to ease into dancing before they had to worry about hold. Daniella has gotten better about letting her contestant shine and this was no different. Dwight is definitely an early frontrunner and showed "This is How We Do It."
Joey and Jenna: Have we ever had a Bachelor and a Bachelorette on the same season before? Anyway, Joey opened the show with a cha-cha to "Dancing in the Country" and did a pretty good job. It's hard to be the very first contestant out and he handled it well. He shows promise and has a good connection with Jenna, which is always important. I think Joey will make the Bachelor franchise proud.
Stephen and Rylee: Stephen captured America's hearts during the Paris Olympics and was the first contestant announced, getting people excited. I know we left the word "adorkable" back in the 2000s but he is the living embodiment of it. He is not afraid to be a giant nerd and to be just so likeable. He and Rylee are a good pairing and he handled his jive to "Don't Stop Me Now" very well. Of course there's still things for him to improve but I think he could give Dwight a run for his money.
(Also don't worry - the show has confirmed the glasses he throws off in tribute to his move in the Olympics are prop ones and that Alfonso holds his real ones during the routine).
Danny and Witney: Welcome back, Witney! It's nice to have her back in the ballroom and she is already doing well with NFL star Danny. They had a tango to start off their time on the show, dancing to "A Bar Song (Tipsy)." I'm not sure the song really lent itself to a tango but they had a pretty good routine anyway. Danny is showing promise and hopefully he can improve as the weeks go on.
Jenn and Sasha: Jenn was the last contestant added to the show. Sasha was not even going to perform this season but I'm glad he is. Fresh off her heartbreak after her choice on The Bachelorette didn't work out, Jenn is ready to dance her troubles away. I think choosing "Flowers" by Miley Cyrus was a good choice and she showed promise with her cha-cha, especially as it seems she had less time than the others to rehearse. Will we have a Bachelor and a Bachelorette going head-to-head for the Mirrorball Trophy? I guess only time will tell.
Phaedra and Val: Phaedra has confidence and is fun to watch. I think Val is a good foil for her and will be able to help her harness her energy and passion to help her improve as a dancer. She already had some moves with her cha-cha to "I'm Every Woman" - even Derek felt the sensuality she brought to it as Bruno had to remind him he is married. (I imagine Hayley laughing at home and nodding along). Will she be the first Real Housewife to claim the Mirrorball trophy? Her competition is tough and so to quote the great prophet Magic 8 Ball: "Answer hazy."
Anna and Ezra: And we come to Anna. I'll be honest, I was not pleased with the decision to include her in this season. Dancing With the Stars can be a second chance for people but I didn't think it was right for her. However, I decided to see if she would surprise me. She did not and I realized the issue I had - she showed no remorse. We saw more remorse from Olivia Jade than Anna. I feel bad that she is Ezra's first partner as a pro but he is doing his best with her. Her cha-cha to "Espresso" wasn't bad even with her ankle monitor but when Carrie Ann noted that there was a noticeable shift in the ballroom's energy when Anna came out, I doubt the votes will be there to keep Anna. She might only be saved depending on how Eric and Reginald do next week since she does have some dance ability.
Brooks and Gleb: I like Brooks. I think she might be holding back in the package so hopefully she gets more comfortable soon but otherwise, I like her. I also like her and Gleb together and that they handled the tango to "Piece of Me" well. I do wonder if they had the same problem as Danny and Witney in that their song choice may not have been a good fit for the tango but they did their best. It's Week 1 so I think we can be a little lenient on the contestants for now.
Ilona and Alan: Every so often, Dancing With the Stars introduces me to someone I wish I had known before because they are awesome. This season, I believe it's Ilona. She's likeable and relatable and challenging our concepts of femininity. I'm glad she chose Shania Twain's "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" for her cha-cha. She felt a little stiff but I chalk that up to nerves and I think that she'll get better with Alan's guidance. I hope so because I want to watch her for a long time!
Tori and Pasha: Tori reveals that the producers have been trying to get her on Dancing With the Stars since the very beginning but she's turned them down until now. However, her divorce changed everything and she wanted to show her children that you can pick yourself up again. She and Pasha dance a foxtrot to "Trustfall" by P!nk and it's an appropriate song choice. I think she has some work to do but she could end up doing well if she puts in the work.
Reginald and Emma: It's Carl Winslow! You know, I once saw him on stage in "A Christmas Carol" at Madison Square Garden. He played the Ghost of Christmas Present and was great in it. He reveals he used to dance as a child and wants to get those skills back. He has a lot of work to do judging by his salsa to "Motwonphilly" but since he's in his 70s, it's understandable that he needs a little more time. He's a lot like Barry Williams so maybe he'll have a long run too.
Eric and Britt: Eric was a little stiff in his cha-cha to "Old Time Rock and Roll" and needs to get some lessons from Barry. Even Reginald moved a bit more than him. Maybe it was just nerves and Britt can help him loosen up. Or else he might be the reason Anna gets to dance another week.
And that ends the first episode of Season 33! It's shaping up to be another good one, with one big exception. But we'll see how that plays out.
Next time, our contestants will celebrate the movies on Oscars Night and someone will go home. See you then!

Dancing with the Stars Season 33 Week 5: I'm Annoyed
Hey y'all. We're back. And I'm a little annoyed about the show last week. I'll start my regular reviews next week. But for now, I'm gonna do some ramblings and spill my thoughts. So here we go.
The Elimination
I was completely fine with Brooks being eliminated. It was the only thing that made sense at this point and I couldn't stomach another moment of Gleb giving her trash choreography and half assing teaching her while going full steam ahead with the showmance for the THIRD SEASON. I couldn't even really tell you what dance they because there was no technique. It could've been a salsa, a cha-cha or a samba. Idk. Brooks could've been much better with any other pro because the potential was there. But here we are. Unfortunately.
Derek and Hayley's Dance
It was really beautiful and it was so nice to see Hayley out there dancing like that again. That's so scary what they went through. I can't imagine Derek's actual feelings in the moment. The brain is no joke.
The Scores/Judging
Mark was a mostly great addition. He was sometimes on some bs though (along with the other judges). So I'm wondering what is going on. Chandler, Joey and Danny should've been tied for the lead with 34 points each. Phaedra should've gotten the same score as Dwight. Jenn should've been given a 30/31 because Sasha sh*t the bed once again.
Thoughts on Individual Couples
So I have a few other lingering thoughts. The first is this weird standard that they are holding Chandler to. The reason I hate contemporary on this show is because it's not valued if it doesn't make you spit up, shake sob, dribble, snot and fart once you're done. That dance was perfectly fine. It was almost perfect minus a lift where Chandler's dress got in Brandon's face and a slight out of sync moment in the side by side choreo. Chandler dances with conviction. She hits her marks, she doesn't just step. She full out dances. None of them feel the same in terms of the feeling. Yeah, this contemporary was lighter, but we weren't dealing with a heavy topic. Her mother is still very much alive and well. She was thanking her. Trying to make it all extra sad would ring as inauthentic and I'm glad that Brandon spoke to that in their interviews. You could tell that they both were confused and that Chandler was shaken by the strange critique.
This Phaedra and Val partnership is not working. Sorry. Homie checked out this season and is not giving Frack (for all you RHOA fans out there) dances that show her in the best light. Is Phaedra the best dancer? No. But she could be so much better if her pro tried. That rumba was the best example of that. Mama pulled a Reggie and that's the one dance I thought she would kill. I'm so disappointed and I wish she had gotten someone else. So far Brandon has done the best with his RHOA star, followed by Tony (surprisingly). Val is sucking this season. I'm just gonna flat out say it.
Sasha had one good week of choreo and went back to bs. That foxtrot was atrocious. I need him in a class or something because the way his choreography skills have regressed in 6 years is WILD.
Joey and Danny, while both good, are being given very kind scores. Joey was skip stepping during that whole dance and Danny needs to loosen up just a bit more (his foxtrot is still my favorite dance of his). The judges are rightfully calling out Stephen for his areas of growth. The same needs to be done for those other two.
I enjoyed Ilona's dance a lot and I think she would benefit with talking to Laila Ali. I feel like that would help her really settle into the dance world in her own unique way. She's almost there, there are just a few more things she's gotta tend to.
Dwight was fine. I want him to dance from his whole body and not just picking a couple different places to focus on.
That's it. Sorry this is late again. Life and I was annoyed with the show last week. But Disney week starts in 5 minutes for the Eastern and Central time zones. So I'll talk to you all very soon.

Welcome to Week 2 of Dancing With the Stars, celebrating the magic of the movies!
The show opens with Alfonso and Julianne pretending to be on the red carpet and interviewing the judges, altering real movie titles to make them dancing themed. Carrie Ann acts like she's really on the red carpet, Derek hams it up and Bruno is such a menace, it sets up a "We Don't Talk About Bruno" joke. You're a few Disney Nights too late, show.
Anyway, Alfonso and Julianne explain that the show has had some Academy Award winners and nominees compete before and they felt it was a great way to celebrate the movies. Each couple would dance to a song from a movie that had been nominated for an Oscar over the years. Since no one was eliminated last week, their scores and votes from the premiere would be added to their scores and votes from tonight. Then, at the end of the night, there would be a double elimination.
So who had the Time of Their Life and who got told they were going? Find out!
Tori and Pasha: I was surprised that Tori went home so early. She was a pretty good dancer and seemed likeable. I guess the audience had other plans. But before she was eliminated, she danced a rumba to "This is Me" from The Greatest Showman, which is apparently her and her children's favorite movie. She clearly had a personal connection to the song and it meant a lot to her. She needed a little more work and maybe her moves didn't flow as well as they could've but it was only Week 2. Maybe she would've gotten better, maybe not. But now we'll never know.
Anna and Ezra: I was not surprised by Anna's elimination. It was really clear that she didn't have the audience support if Carrie Ann felt the need to comment how the atmosphere changed in the ballroom. I don't think that's ever happened before and this show once had Sean Spicer, who was also a polarizing figure. Her quickstep to "Suddenly I See" from The Devil Wears Prada was good technically but you could see that Anna looked so bored. The people on the show showed her more compassion and kindness than she ever showed them and I think this was the right decision.
Chandler and Brandon: Chandler knew she had set the bar high in her first performance but was willing to keep exceeding expectations. Her rumba to "What Was I Made For" from Barbie was a great second dance. It was sensual and conveyed the emotion of the song well.
Dwight and Daniella: This week, Daniella and Dwight had to figure out how to dance in hold with their height difference since they had the foxtrot. It took some work but they figured it out though I still felt like Daniella took every chance she could to leave hold when they could as they danced to "City of Stars" from La La Land. I got a little worried at the end when he started to spin her as I thought Carrie Ann would ding them for a lift but it does seem like Daniella's foot remained on the floor the entire time. But Dwight did handle the slower dance style well and exuded elegance. I think he needs to work more on her frame but I think that will improve as he and Daniella continue to find out what works best for them.
Joey and Jenna: Joey struggled with the more sensual aspects of the rumba and so Jenna had to call in the big guns - her husband, Val. Can I just say that I love that the pros are willing to help all the contestants and don't feel like they can't help the competition? Val gives him some pointers and Joey gets more comfortable. He and Jenna danced a beautiful rumba to "Shallow" from A Star is Born. I think he needs to open up a bit more when dancing but he's making good progress.
Stephen and Rylee: After getting compared to "Clark Kent" during this summer's Olympics, it's unsurprising that Stephen ended dancing to the iconic theme music from Superman. He even had a great quick change from a suit into his more patriotic costume. I felt he was a little weak during the part he did by himself but once Rylee joined him for the rest of the paso doble, he was more confident. I think he'll get more confident in himself as the weeks go on, especially if he can handle a hard dance like the paso this early in the competition.
Danny and Witney: Danny got to dance a jive to "Danger Zone" from Top Gun and he spoke about how much his grandfather, who was a veteran, meant to him. He also revealed that if he hadn't become a professional football player, he would've joined the military. He and Witney had a good jive together and I think Danny is good technically and capturing the spirit of the dance. He needs to work on making his routines a bit more polished. There were parts of this that felt a little rough.
Ilona and Alan: I love watching Ilona dance. She's just a lot of fun and may even have a budding career in acting if she wants. She and Alan danced the salsa to "I've Had the Time of My Life" from Dirty Dancing and she handled the routine pretty well. I think there may have been some issues with the first two lifts she and Alan did (when they flipped each other) but it didn't hurt the routine much. I also like that they included a version of the iconic lift and that people could see you didn't have to be petite to be lifted in the air.
Phaedra and Val: I like Phaedra but her foxtrot to "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" from Dreamgirls fell a little flat for me. But I don't really blame her. I kinda put it on Val. It was mostly the choreography. I get that it's still only week 2 but there's a really big note in the song that I think could've used a bigger move than what they did. Val needs to push her a bit more. I think she'll surprise him and us.
Brooks and Gleb: I'm not sure why Gleb chose this story for his and Brooks' quickstep to Dolly Parton's "9 to 5." Brooks is a dancer who seems to be struggling and wants to leave but her instructor Gleb refuses to let her. Given that the movie is about woman taking down their toxic male boss, this seems like an unusual choice. And while the quickstep was nice it just didn't wow me like I wanted it to.
Jenn and Sasha : Jenn and Sasha danced first with a tango to "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody" from The Great Gatsby. The tango aspects of their routine was nice but I couldn't help but feel the song was better suited to either the quickstep or the salsa. Jenn pulled off some nice tricks but I think she and Sasha need to step it up or she might get stuck in the middle of the pack.
Eric and Britt: Eric and Britt took a field trip to the Academy's museum to prepare for their waltz to the theme music from The Godfather. While they admired the costumes, she also arranged for them to watch when Eric was nominated for an Oscar. He's touched by the gesture. As for his dance, it was a little better than last week's, probably because the waltz is slower and he may have shaken his nerves. I'm still surprised he was kept over Tori Spelling and I'm not sure how much longer he'll last but he seems to be having fun and I think that's all that matters in the end.
Reginald and Emma: Unsurprisingly, Reginald was given Die Hard as his movie. He danced a paso doble to "Ode to Joy," dancing with Emma who I assume was supposed to represent the terrorists from the movie. He wasn't as smooth as Stephen in the paso doble but he still managed to handle the harder steps. I was afraid he was going to go over Tori but not really surprised that he was saved. He's likeable and honestly, he's one of the last of the group of "America's Dads." It's going to take a lot for people to vote off Carl Winslow.
Dancing With the Stars took a week off due to the Vice Presidential debate and Governor Walz did make a comment about them interrupting the show, so maybe he's a fan? Anyway, the week off allowed me to catch up. I hope I don't fall behind again since there will be two shows coming up. On Monday, we'll have Soul Train night with guest judge Rosie Perez. And on Tuesday, we'll have Metal night with rumored guest Gene Simmons from Kiss.
I don't know if we'll have eliminations both nights or a double elimination on Tuesday, so I guess we'll have to wait to see. And I imagine we'll have another disruption next month for Election Night. So we should probably prepare for that as well.
See you then!
