(2011-2016) love triangles had me on a chokehold in 2015 and still do!!! should not have been watching this show in middle school but 😭 the mindy project (2012-2017) its so good, TOO good!!! want to say it shouldve ended in season 3 but no, idc danny got weird, the show was still funny!!! it was just too good. never have i ever (2020-2023) patiently waiting for that season 4. nhie is mediocre in the best way possible, me and my roommate bonded over watching it 😭 yumi’s cells (2021-ongoing) i cried SO MUCH. SOOOOO MUCH. woong my perfect boyfriend ill take you 😭😭😭 on a serious note though it was just so three dimensional, like every character made me love them hate them yk?? i could write an entire essay on just how GOOD the synopsis is on its own 😭 the sex lives of college girls (2021-) it was pretty good idk if its my favourite but i am patiently waiting for a season 3 currently so for now, yes its my favorite 😭 i just realized how tiring it is to type SO ILL END THIS HERE SORRY EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS, THE GOOD PLACE, 2521!!

While it's still March 31 on my side of the globe, I think I should talk about Yumi's Cells and Daily JoJo. My all-time favorite Webtoons.

Because I was big on Webtoons in 2020-2023.

And I was especially big on these two. (Just look at the "Funny" page of Yumi's Cells on TVTropes. I've logged funny moments for almost every episode, even if many of them are a stretch.)

Spoilers for both of them up to S3, Ep. 5 of Daily JoJo.

Disclaimer: I'm not well-versed in Korean culture, so pardon me if I mess up anything.

I also haven't gathered every piece of information about the passage of time, so consider these the minimum amount of time passed.

So in S3, Ep. 5, Anna says that Jina is older than Woong.

Jina says she's 35 three months before the present time. (Wait, did they change how age works in Korea? I thought everyone's age is tied to the new year... And is this international age or Korean age?)

Anyway, how old is Woong?

32 in Korean age (international age plus 1). We know that Woong is most likely the same age as Yumi. (If he wasn't, they'd point out that he wasn't.)

Before the time skip, Daily JoJo takes place around the same time as the "Shall We Dance" arc of Yumi's Cells.

Going by just Yumi's breakups alone, it's more than three years from the beginning to her final break-up with Babi. (They take about a month of break)

And then about two years from that break-up to when she meets Soonrok. (The left screenshot flashes forward while she's still with Babi, while the right flashes forward from just before she meets Soonrok.)

So after the beginning of Daily JoJo/the "Shall We Dance" arc of Yumi's Cells, there's about a year time skip to present-day Daily JoJo. (I haven't accounted for any time passage in Season 2, though)

So age 32 + 3 years + 2 years + 1 year (all rounding down)

... and that makes Woong at least 38.

(Huh. I thought my math would have brought it to 39. I must have missed something.)

So unless I missed something big, Jina is not older than Woong.

I Noticed a Disturbing Pattern

Here are all the times the group has turned on Jeremie when he does not deserve it (because sometimes he does need a reality check). I'm including the circumstances behind each time, as well as if the others apologize or not.

~Season 1~

"Image Problem": Clone!Yumi tries seducing Jeremie to convince him to arrange a mission to Lyoko so the clone can destroy the scanners. Odd and Ulrich stumble upon the scene and Ulrich takes it the wrong way, refusing the listen to Jeremie when he tries to explain. During class, it's evident that Odd has taken Ulrich's side, given how he sticks out his tongue and blows a raspberry at Jeremie. // Do the others apologize?: No, but Ulrich does hear Jeremie out when he tries to explain. Jeremie's the one who has to apologize, even though it was clone!Yumi who incited the incident, and Ulrich reacts because his jealousy.

~Season 2~

"X.A.N.A.'s Kiss": XANA uses a polymorphic clone to sow discord within the group, and he begins by taking Jeremie's form and kissing Heidi. Ulrich and Odd stumble upon this. Despite his insistence that such an event happened, the only one of his friends that stays by Jeremie's side is Yumi, who is ostracized by the group the exact same way for the exact same reason. // Do the others apologize?: No. Not that we see, at least. The group does come to understand that it was a XANA attack the whole time, but apologies needed to be said here, on all sides. All XANA did was use their images to kiss other people; the fault rests on the group for turning on each other so quickly.

"Franz Hopper": XANA uses the image of Franz Hopper to target Jeremie, blaming him for the scanners causing cell degeneration and the destruction of his diary on Jeremie. Only Aelita stands up for him, but he receives no interference from the others when walking away from the so-called "final mission". The others remember they have brains, however, once the fake Hopper double-crosses them and they find the activated tower in Sector 5. // To the others apologize?: Off-screen, but yes. It needed to be on-screen, though, and you can pry that belief from my cold, dead hands.

~Season 3~

"Aelita": Despite not intending to hurt her (and the fact that he's already searched every inch of Lyoko for her father), Aelita is so mad at Jeremie that she and Odd go to Sector 5 behind his back. // Do Aelita and Odd apologize?: No. Not that we know of. Hate me all you want, but Aelita needed to apologize for this.

~Season 4~

"Maiden Voyage": While the others are stuck in the Skid, Jeremie must scale the roof of the dormitory building to get the CD to fix the program that bugged up the Skid. Jeremie doesn't tell the others, figuring they would never believe him, but when Odd managed to correctly guess what Jeremie did, clearly joking, none of the others believe him, due to the absurdity of it. // Do the others apologize?: No, not that we know of. (I know this one's mild compared to the other examples, but I'm still counting it, because I believe he doesn't deserve it.)

"Replika": Aelita and Odd plan to fake kiss to get Nicolas and Herve out of the factory, and it works (despite the two throwing childish insults at each other all episode). At the end, they've made up, but their fake kiss doesn't sit well with Jeremie, and they know this. However, the two only tease him with "Well, Einstein has learned what it means to have an open mind!" // Do Aelita and Odd apologize?: No, not that we know of. (Again, this one's mild, but I'm still counting it, because Jeremie does not deserve it.)

"Cousins Once Removed": Jeremie's cousin Patrick comes to visit, and Jeremie's not happy about it, due to feeling jealous because he believes Patrick is so much cooler than him. Not only do the others immediately flock to Patrick, calling him "a better looking Einstein", but when Jeremie explains his story to Aelita, not once does she show sympathy for his feelings. // Do the others apologize?: No. The narrative just paints Jeremie as the bad guy when they already had the snooping Sissi and hacker Herve. (Before anybody points it out, yes, I do admit that Jeremie needed a reality check; he shouldn't have treated his cousin like that. But Jeremie's feelings are one-hundred percent ignored here, by his friends no less, and he does not deserve that.)

~Evolution~

No, I don't have a point with all of this, nor a theory. I just wanted to point out this concerning pattern that Evolution thankfully gets rid of. I can't help but wonder, though, why this pattern exists.

COMEBACK

SELENE returned with the final chapter of their Four Seasons, Four Colors project with White Wind. The lead single “Gogobebe” was choreographed by Polaris’s MIN. The mini-album peaked at #1 on the Circle Weekly Album Chart while lead single “Gogobebe” peaked at #5 on the Circle Weekly Digital Chart. Selene took home seven music show wins for “Gogobebe”.

EQUINOX returned for the spring with The Equinox Festival 2023 - Feel My Rhythm and single “Feel My Rhythm”. Labelmate Platinum’s HAON composed and arranged the track and also participated in lyrics. Member MINJUNG wrote and composed and participated in the arrangement of side track “Bamboleo” while member SUJI wrote, composed, and participated in the arrangement of side track “In My Dreams”. The mini-album peaked at #1 on the Circle Weekly Album Chart and the single peaked at #3 on the Circle Weekly Digital Chart. “Feel My Rhythm” won once on Music Bank on March 31.

CATALYST released special track “Mixtape: On Track” a few days before rounding out the month of Gold Star Media comebacks with The Connect: Deja Vu and lead single “Jealousy” (choreography by Polaris’s MIN). The Connect: Deja Vu peaked at #2 on the Circle Weekly Album Chart and “Jealousy” peaked at #54 on the Weekly Digital Chart. “Jealousy” won once on The Show.

tvN began airing new variety show Sixth Sense, featuring Lily member HAYI with premiere Nielsen ratings of 3.219% nationwide, putting it first in its time slot. The program continued as first or second in its time slot for the rest of March.

The third season of Great Escape began airing on tvN this month. The show’s fixed cast, including Catalyst’s JACE, returned for the new season with 2.740% Nielsen nationwide ratings for the season three premiere.

Honestly I just didn’t get the whole appeal of this series. I thought both seasons were kinda of messy and pointless. I think it had a lot to do with how the characters were written though. For me the main female lead is written in the way of being kind of messed up and indecisive, so she shouldn’t be in any type of relationship, while the ‘male leads’ are just a block in her way. Nothing really special to see, same ol’ same ol’, unfortunately. I feel this is more of an anime series, since the anime portion was done brilliantly and was written hilarious. I actually enjoyed that part more than the actual live action part. Oh well.

Yumi’s Cells Season 1 & 2

(Review with Spoilers)

How many times did your heart skip a bit for a person? How many times have you defined your day by seeking your block crush, K-pop Idol bias, or coffee guy in the office? That is definitely a fun habit. You get a positive feeling or endorphin to have a drive to be productive. A feeling that stays even though you laughed too much with your friends. Without thinking that it is fake just to blend in in the atmosphere.

Maybe you have known that since first grade. But I do not really understand why it is natural for many women. All I learned is that women are created to be affectionate and feel love and belonging in a family. I hope that it happens to all of us, but in reality, this is a challenge that we cannot escape because of how mischievous fate is.

Yumi grew up in a loving family and since then she has always been ready to give it to the man she ever dreamt of marrying. There is Ugi from college, who left her for another woman. There is Wung who I really adore since he just left her because of his ill-fated career. And there is Ba Bi who she just unknowingly unloved. I don’t get it but what happened to Yumi is a result of circumstances that people around her are going through. It is a K-drama where there is no antagonist since each character is hoping for the best for everyone but just has different priorities to act upon. Because of this, Ruby, Yumi, Ba Bi, Sae Yi, Da Eun, and Wung can’t help but hurt each other. But, if you look at the big picture, all this friction brought the characters to the ending that will make them happy. Ruby ended up with Illustrator Control Z, Yumi became a successful writer, Ba Bi proved how he could give way to others, and Wung became a successful game developer.

Definitely, Yumi’s Cell is a K-Drama for teens and teens-at-heart (like me) women like me. Yes, it is hard to listen to your heart always because you do not really know where you will end up. But as I walked through the series with Yumi, what brought her to a happy ending (for season 2) was how honest she is with herself. She used the Rational Cell to decide most things more than the Love Cell and Sensitivity Cell. But based on how I look at it, Yumi is a simple and kind woman who learned to love herself more than any boys out there.

Maybe we grow up dreaming every night of riding a horse with our prince charming, but if we realize that knowing ourselves and believing in what we can do can really make us happy, that is really a dealbreaker with sadness. I am not saying that we all stay single until we have a six-digit bank account or a successful career. But Yumi finally became truly happy when she was able to prove to herself that her dream had come true. It is being a successful writer that she buried when she was younger since she thought she had no talent for it. Why should she think that way if this is a career she always dreamt of having? A passion is like a religion. You do not choose which church you should belong to; it is the religion that chooses you. It is the same with passion, it is the passion who chooses you. Do you want to know what it is? One way is what Stephen Covey wrote in the book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People; think of what you loved to do when you were a fifth grader (seven years old or younger) without thinking. If you are curious, I always want to watch TV, TV shows, and Music Videos. That is why my mom gave me a stereo when I became an honor student when I was a 3rd grader.

Why try to ask yourself, what is this something you can do to prove to yourself you are greater than what you think? Maybe you will think of 1 or 5. You can try to do some of them and if it did not work out, why not try another? Life is a continuous self-discovery and winning is just a step farther from almost giving up. And you can stop if you think it is no longer making sense. Try hard but still be gentle to yourself.

At the end of season 2 which is Christmas Eve, Yumi is alone but happy. All her cells are happy. That happens when she learns to love herself first. <3

I wanna watch a k drama (I have only watched squid game and all of us are dead only) so which drama should I watch on netflix?

I love a drama with strong female lead and romance......

Ohhhh these are super different from what you already watched so I don’t know if you’ll enjoy them, but!! they’re romance lol these are my favorites:

1- Yumi’s Cells!!! I absolutely love the story, both on the first and second seasons. It’s my absolutely favorite drama bc it’s so real and relatable while being so fucking funny. Plus Goeun is my favorite actress she’s my girlfriend fr 🩷🌷

2- Our Beloved Summer 🥲🫶💝 I love love love the trope, also I would die for Choi Wooshik

3- Twenty-Five Twenty-One!!! I LOVED THIS SO MUCH It took me a solid year to get over this drama istg

4- Daily Dose of Sunshine. It’s not really a romance, but the character study in this story is absolutely beautiful and I related so so deeply to the main character 🥲

"since spring weather can be pretty unpredictable, i find that having a light cardigan or jean jacket on hand is always helpful. the weather can be really nice and then an hour later it could become chilly, so something to help you prepare for that is nice to have found. preferrably in a lighter color since it is spring, no?”

“well, it has been confirmed for a second season, so i can tell you that’s happening. i’ve also had to attach extensions for this shoot, so that’s probably another hint? i’ve received the script, or at least what’s written of it so far, and i can assure viewers that season 2 will be just as fun and exciting as season 1. i hope you all look forward to it.”

while this was far from your first acting project, it does seem like you’ve made quite a mark as yumi. is there anything about her that makes her more special to you as well?

“you’re right. this isn’t my first lead, but this is the first time i’ve played a role that was also part of the title of the project. there’s a big emphasis on yumi’s cells because a story that centers around yumi, and i think i felt that pressure at first. however, she’s also the character that feels the most humane. that might sound weird, but i’ve had to express the most emotions as yumi, and that’s what makes her special to me.”

is there something you’re looking forward to in 2023?

“nothing in particular. i try to be thankful for each day i get. my birthday’s coming up in march, selene’s 13th debut anniversary will also be this year, but those are just one of many days in the year. i think i’m just looking foward to having a happy year.”

I’m not much of a fan for webtoon-based series especially those with animations, but Yumi’s Cells caught my eye and heart.

From one relationship to another, Yumi’s Cells portrayed how and what we learn from our relationships and how they’re different from each other.

I wish that she ended up with Yu Ba bi but I guess they just didn’t deserve each other… And I think that’s the reality. Someday you’ll meet someone who’ll inspire you to become a better person but he/she isn’t meant to stay with you for life.

I highly recommend this series for those who are looking for something to binge watch. It’s light and visually appealing. For those who are having a hard time adulting, maybe this is also for you. May we all keep on dreaming and hustling for our dreams. 😊
