spent multiple months working in the most dangerous part of the institute, where her job description basically amounted to "fuck around and find out."

didn't really like horror, despite being a very dedicated employee at the Horrifying Things Collection Facility

accused martin of not having very good self-preservational instincts, immediately before describing how she

followed a strange man who she knew was a monster into an abandoned building without a moment of hesitation

would regularly break into her coworkers computers, seemingly just for the hell of it

hacked into at least one hospital database, once again did not seem to see any issues with this

stapled together archived documents

in conclusion: anyone who claims sasha james had the brain cell is either a fool or a con man. that woman had never seen a brain cell in her life. actually if anyone had the brain cell it was tim but i don't think y'all are ready for that conversation.

thinking about Jonathan Sims and Samama Khalid.

Thinking about how, by all laws of Horror Story Trope, Jon should not be the protagonist. If I'd never heard of tma and you showed me a lineup of the archives crew and asked me to guess who died first I would have pointed to Jon. He's the paranoid professor archetype. The one who dies discovering some crucial bit of information at the beginning to push the plot forward. He's unfriendly, cowardly, insecure, and makes other people do his investigation for him for all of season 1. He doesn't do anything even remotely heroic until the second half of the show. He has no interest in romance for the first half of the show. The audience wasn't even aware Jon had a dark past until he starts telling us about A Guest for Mr. Spider. But he is *Chosen.* Despite the fact that he has no actual qualities of a hero, he's chosen as the eyes special boy. Over the course of the show he starts to become more and more like an actual protagonist. He starts trying to save the world, resist the eye, all that jazz. For one reason or another, being the Archivist turns Jonathan "definition of a side character" Sims into the main character.

Then we have Sam. Sam starts acting like a horror/mystery protagonist almost immediately. He is young, charming, has a mysterious past (that we are made aware of pretty much right away) and a curiosity that causes him to frequently put himself personally in the path of The Horrors. He pokes around where he doesn't belong and looks for clues. He's the center of an office love triangle for goodness sake. He has a strong sense of duty to others and will put himself in harms way to protect those he loves. He exudes main character energy. He has everything a horror protagonist needs to push the plot along. But Sam wasn't *Chosen.* Despite being exactly the person you'd expect the plot to follow. And I can't help but wonder if, in the same way that the narrative made Jon important, it's going to make Sam unimportant. Irrelevant. If, with his rejection from The Magnus Institute, Sam is going to disappear completely. Become a mystery.

Because at the end of the day, so much of your life, your impact on the world, your relevance, has absolutely nothing to do with you. So much of it has everything to do with those in power, and whether they decide you're important.

It all comes down to your own rotten luck.

Short Gay Librarian Jon, all khakis and sweater vests that are just a bit too big, gold rimmed glasses he wears more for the idea of being taken seriously and less for his vision (He really only needs reading glasses)

Chubby Bumbling Redhead Martin, always has a sweater even in the summer and glasses that need a bit thicker of a lense (Doesn’t have money to update his prescription, and this means he is a lot more accident prone due to his shitty eyesight)

Hawaiian Shirt Flirt™️ Tim, who needs to be wearing at least 3 bright contrasting colors at any given time (If Elias cared about the dress code, he would have been fired weeks ago) ((Jon wishes he *had* been fired weeks ago))

Reliable Nerd Sasha, with her hair always up and her outfit always consisting of a clean blouse or well fitting turtleneck, muted colors and black + white combos are most of her work closet.

Elias looks like a Victorian man trying to dress modern, with his fancy golden pocketwatch and his nicely pressed white shirts

This is all I got for our Main Season One Cast, but I have a lot more for our other seasons.

Completely unhinged about the magnus archives, please please tell me how the characters look in your headcanons so I can doodle them.

If at this point you are still reading this post, thank you. Not too get too sappy but I really wanted to shine on a light on just how many amazing authors there are, some of which even still actively write stories today! Surely, there are some authors I may have forgotten but I think this is a good start!

I also want to quickly say thanks to blogs like @imsrtman, @bratboy197 for liking, reblogging, and archiving posts for everyone to keep reading. In this corner small corner of the internet where stories get taken down, authors move to different platforms, and some disappear into thin air it's nice to know not all stories are lost!

Furthermore, I want to give a special thanks @mrrharper for the good company and his tremendous help with proofreading some of my stories. As well as others in the community I have chatted with or helped archive more old stories!

Lastly, I hope this post motivates you to read and heart some of these great stories or perhaps inspire you to start writing your own!

The remaining three season 1 and 2 assistants + Jonathan, who isn’t an archival assistant but still keeps popping into the archives even though nobody wanted that.

Elias assigns Michael four assistants instead of Jon’s three mostly because of his obliviousness. While he does still want Michael to be marked by the fear entities for the whole “living archive of fear I’m evil bt dubs” thing, he would also rather Michael not die before that can happen, so. Extra hands. He was going to transfer Sasha from research to the archives, but Ms Barker happened to wander into the institute just in time!

JONATHAN: Unknown Age. The pronouns are listed as He, but anything after the slash is unintelligible.

The Distortion.

Formerly Jonathan Sims. He’d met Gertrude Robinson while working as a researcher. She’d convinced poor Jon to accompany to her to Sanikov Land for “academic experience”.

He’s almost always smiling. The expression looks unnatural on his face.

Likes the current archives crew. Still wants Michael dead.

MARTIN BLACKWOOD: 32. He/Him.

Archival Assistant to Michael Shelley. Formerly a librarian, Elias abruptly transferred him after Gertrude Robinson vanished.

Nice enough, but distant. Nobody actually remembers his last name for a while.

As things in the archives get worse and worse, he seems to throw himself into his work more and more.

Lied on his CV, but Mr. Shelley doesn’t seem to mind.

TIMOTHY STOKER: 31. He/Him.

Archival Assistant to Michael Shelley. He used to be in research, but transferred partly because of the disappearance of his colleague, Jon Sims.

At the end of season one, he’s taken by the Not Them. However, it fails to fully “digest” him, you could say?

Long story made short, he’s not exactly Tim, but he’s also not exactly NOT Tim?

Not Not Tim. It’s confusing. (He) can also be called Tims Stokers.
