Pike conger”, “conger eel”, and “daggertooth pike conger” are the various terms used to describe the special delicacy commonly known as pike conger (hamo in Japanese). In Japan, this dish is highly valued and treasured due to its rarity and the difficulty involved in preparing it.
The daggertooth pike conger (Muraenesox cinereus) also known as the darkfin pike eel in Australia, to distinguish it from the related pike-eel (Muraenesox bagio), is a species of eel in the pike conger family, Muraenesocidae. They primarily live on soft bottoms in marine and brackish waters down to a depth of 800 m (2,600 ft), but may enter freshwater. They commonly grow to about 1.5 m (4.9 ft) in length, but may grow as long as 2.2 m (7.2 ft).Daggertooth pike congers occur in the Red Sea, on the coast of the northern Indian Ocean, and in the West Pacific from Indochina to Japan.
The mottled eel(Anguilla bengalensis), also known as the African mottled eel, the Indian longfin eel, the Indian mottled eel, the long-finned eel or the river eel, is a demersal, catadromous eel in the family Anguillidae. It is a tropical, freshwater eel which is known from East Africa, Bangladesh, Andaman Islands, Mozambique, Malawi, Sri Lanka, Sumatra, and Indonesia and recently from Madagascar.
Anguilla bengalensis bengalensis, the Indian mottled eel, is a subspecies of eel in the genus Anguilla. It is found throughout the Indian subcontinent and neighbouring regions including the East Indies. The Indian mottled eel is valued as a food fish. The mucus of this eel is used in a medicine for arthritis. It is known by numerous common names in the native languages of the regions it inhabits. In Telugu, it is known as “Bommidayalu.” In Malayalam, it is known as "Mananjil." In Nepali, it is known as "Raj Baam." In Marathi, it is known as "Vaamb." In Tamil, it is known as "vealangu meen". In Bengali it is known as Baam maach or Tambu maach.

Hello! Hope you're having a wonderful day this week!
Could I request Octavinelle with a seafood chef s/o?
Gender-neutral reader, loosely based off of Chef Louis from the Little Mermaid.
Tumblr media
Azul Ashengrotto
He was very happy to have a willing volunteer for the Mostro Lounge
But then he made the mistake of asking what your specialty dishes were
Come to find out, it’s all seafood
This man is absolutely terrified because of how good the food ends up being
Your dishes are the most popular
You’re even well-versed in cooking octopus dishes, like grilling it or even making ceviche
He makes a note that he needs to remain on your good side, lest he be served fried and topped with different spices
Tumblr media
Jade Leech
He is very surprised that you are a seafood chef, but you can color him intrigued
His favorite dish is octopus carpaccio, and he will be elated if you ever make it for him
Especially if he’s going to go for a hike the next day and you prepare it for him for lunch
Him and his brother make fun of Azul for being scared for you
When you start working in the Mostro Lounge, he is fairly excited
However, if you ever catch him staring at you, you threaten to only feed him conger eels
Conger eels are his least favorite food, so you can be sure that he smiles at your threat and gets back to work
Tumblr media
Floyd Leech
He is very amused at the irony
Didn’t you know that he was from the sea, Shrimpy?
Floyd’s favorite food is takoyaki, so he will be a good boy if you promise to make it
When he is in a sour mood, you always have some on standby
However, you use it as a threat, telling him that he won’t get any if he doesn’t behave
Instead, you tell him that you would give him some tuna served with shiitake mushrooms
This man hates those mushrooms so much that he will do whatever you say just so he doesn’t have to eat them.

Cryptid of the Day: Rotomahana Sea Serpent
Description: The Rotomahana Serpent was first seen in 1891, off the coast of Portland Light, New Zealand. Though described as a large conger eel, in the late 20th century, it was theorized that this was the first sighting of marine saurians, which was seen around that time off New Zealand

I was reading your tweel analyses posts and came across the little blurb of Floyd and Jade eating octopus in front of Azul and seemingly relishing in it because it might unsettle him and they're little shits. their fave foods having octopus in them makes sense since it's part of a diet of moray eels
here's a question I don't see many asking: does Azul eat octopus dishes? I think everyone is aware that octopus can (and do) cannibalize each other (even self-cannibalize) but he is still an octopus merman. do you think the animal based mers like the octatrio view the animals they share similarities with as a completely separate species from them and therefore not care when eating them? or is it sort of like a human and big ape thing, where it is highly uncomfortable and generally frowned upon?
[Referencing this post!]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think Azul refrains from eating octopus himself! The reasoning being that… well, it’s really a gut feeling that’s informed by my observations of the Octatrio’s interactions.
If he looked annoyed watching the twins eat octopus, then that indicates he feels a certain way in that scenario—a discomfort or irritation which would then extend to his own dietary habits. If Azul did eat octopus, then why should he take issue with his peers doing the same? If both moray eels and octopus dine on octopus, why would he only be distressed in one scenario and not the other? Why would Jade and Floyd go out of their way to eat tons of octopus in front of Azul and bring up mentions of how delicious his merform is, if not to tease and unnerve him?
I do think that merpeople view non-sentient sea creatures they share traits with as separate beings in the food chain. This is why the twins can eat regular ol’ octopus without an issue. However, I also think that eating a creature that is of the same “type” as you (ie Azul and an octopus) is seen as morally wrong, as they too closely resemble the merpeople in question. This would be similar to how humans are fine with eating cow, pig, and chicken, but are far less willing to consume primates. It’s the “human” part of them—of us—our consciouses calling out to us and letting us know “hey, this is wrong”. The only thing I can really find to support this is how Jade says his least favorite food is a conger eel. (But his dialogue suggests he has tried it before and doesn't like the texture.) He and Floyd are morays, which is a different kind of eel... So does that imply that eating others is okay (ie other kinds of eels) so long as they aren't your exact species (morays for the twins)?
Merpeople may be part man and part fish, but I believe they are mainly human with additional fish traits and attributes; their thinking and behaviors are still very human, so I feel they share some similarities with humans in their moral and ethical codes.
The difficulty with half human/half animal fantasy races is that there will always be the debate of how much their animalistic side plays into their behaviors and how much of that can be overridden by their human side. For example, just because Leona is a lion beastman doesn’t mean he can’t eat vegetables, he just does not like them. This is in spite of lions being carnivores (ie exclusively dining on meat). We also see (or it is implied) many merfolk and beastmen eating food that would harm or kill their non-sentient counterparts (such as candy and chocolates during Halloween; you’d think they would otherwise express repulsion if offered what is basically poison to them). The “beastial” TWST characters in general don’t seem too strict on their food intake (specialized diets for athletes aside), so my guess is that their intakes lean more toward the omnivorous intakes of humans rather than the diet prescribed by the animals that are a part of them. After all… if Azul ate octopus, bro would be nomming on his own arm or something (since auto-cannibalism is a thing among octopus) 😭
Side note: Azul considers eating squid ink pasta in book 3. This is probably the closest we'll get to seeing him "eating octopus". Makes me think that it's acceptable to eat like... body parts and byproducts of other animals but not of the same species as you (ie chicken hearts vs human hearts).
Imagine walking in on that though????? I’d say, “Sorry to disturb you, sir! I’ll see myself out now,” then slowly shut the door and back away…

I hope I'm not unwelcome here, I was wondering. How do you think the boys would react to a siren MC that was another variety of deep sea siren~? I've been writing a fic with the reader as a deep sea eel siren and it's on my mind since I adore your siren au thoughts!
Ohoooooo
I fuckin love the concept of a gorgeous, dangerous eel Mc. Sleek and dark and powerful. I feel like a deep sea Mc would be bigger than her pelagic counterpart... much closer to the skeletons in size. Not to mention, she’d have some other unique traits, like heightened senses and bioluminescence.
Sans: She is, for once, something he isn’t used to seeing on his usual menu. Orca are surface dwellers. She’s a curiosity; he adores curiosities. Especially pretty ones. He’s cautious, because she’s clearly a predator, he works slowly... stalking her from a distance, then approaching fast and ducking away at the last second, baiting her into lashing out so he can see how her attacks work. It doesn’t take him long to figure out what her deal is. He’s enamoured with this beautiful, fierce novelty from the deep.
Sans frightens her. He didn’t, at first; he looked like a puny version of the much bigger, much toothier whales who occasionally make the long journey to her depths. But then he started moving- and she realised his danger wasn’t his body, it was his adaptability. He could kill her if he wanted to.
And yet... there’s something about his intelligence. Something about his powerful form as he swims. Something about his unreadable calm, soft smile around her, razor sharp eyelights taking in every detail... she can’t help it, she’s drawn to him.
Red: ... C’mon. We know this dance by now. She’s big, she’s beautiful, she’s strong- not only that, but she’s mysterious and elegant, a dangerous predator from the depths all decorated in glittering lights. It’s like he’s at a cocktail party and a 6ft buff woman just walked in, wearing a black velvet dress and diamonds- he’s shootin his shot, and nothing will stop him. He likes his ladies capable of killing him. He makes a couple stupid eel-related pickup lines (“girl, are you a coral-dwelling eel? cus you’re my a-moray.” “I’m a conger, not a m- wait,”) and her baffled flustered reactions just cement his growing interest.
Red is... a lot. Not necessarily in a bad way. He keeps shocking her by making her laugh (“gulper? jeez, i hardly know her.”) and she likes the company and conversation. Deep sea sirens don’t tend to do the whole ‘group’ thing, but that doesn’t mean it can’t get lonely, down there in the endless night.
She also likes the patterns on his body- you don’t see many pretty markings when you live in near pitch-black. He likes when she can’t help but touch them.
Skull: Finally. Finally. Another creature from the deep, another siren like him, who understands his mannerisms and his way of life. A siren who’ll see him as kin, who won’t view him as some kind of strange, unknowable alien. Being around her makes him soft and giddy, he lights up his bioluminescence any chance he gets, he enjoys having that point of bonding with her (he’s smug the others don’t understand their secret language of lights). He gets the overwhelming sensation they were meant to be together... the abyss is so huge, so endless, and yet somehow they found one another? It can’t be chance. The stars aligned. He knows her smell now- he’ll follow her wherever she goes.
A deep sea Mc would definitely feel more comfortable around Skull than she does around the other two sirens. They’re so similar, and she’s much more used to monsters like him; big, dark, strong, slow. She’s still careful around him considering he’s the more frightening apex predator where they’re from- being familiar with something doesn’t make it any less dangerous. But when his tentacles flash and she flashes back, it feels like stumbling across someone who speaks your mother tongue in a land full of strangers.

Cadborosaurus
So let’s talk about this weirdo (affectionate). The Cadborosaurus (aka “Caddy”) is a sea serpent in folklore around the Pacific Coast of North America, specifically Cadboro Bay in Greater Victoria, British Columbia. Witnesses say the creature is a coiled serpent with a horse- or camel-like head, small front flippers, and either two back flippers or a pair large webbed flippers that fan out to provide propulsion. Dr. Paul LeBlond, director of Earth and Ocean Sciences at UBC, and Dr. Edward Blousfield, retired chief zoologist of the Canadian Museum of Nature, both say that every elongated animal has been put forth as an explanation for Caddy, including conger eels, humpback whales, elephant seals, and more. However, they also state that no creature has been officially identified as an explanation for the sightings.
In the past 200 years, there have been over 300 reported sightings of Caddy, from Deep Cove in Saanich Inlet to San Francisco Bay. In 2009, fisherman Kelly Nash reportedly filmed ten to fifteen of the creatures in Nushagak Bay. There are also two different reports of Caddy (or a Caddy, as there might be several of these creatures) being caught and thrown back into the water.
In addition to reported live sightings and captures, there many supposed carcasses of the creature(s). From 1930 to 1963, there have been nine reported Caddy bodies “found”. I use quotes because, dear reader, many of these have been debunked, with other known creatures such as whale sharks being the explanation for the bodies.
Fun fact: “-saurus” is the Greek root meaning “lizard”!

{OOC: This could go for either character depending on what fits/who you have interest in and I am happy to plot in DMs if necessary.}
After an unknown amount of time a vent in the ceiling would pop out. An almost serpentine creature falling from the opening. Landing with a thunk against the floor as their tail dropped over them. Containing features of what seemed to be a variety of creatures. Though the most notable seemed to be a Hawaiian conger eel, short-beaked common dolphin, coral-banded shrimp, sea angel, and pufferfish based on the features and colors she visibly displayed. Though another set of orange and magenta heterochromatic eyes seemed to glow faintly in the dark space the vent provided. Seemingly watching the serpentine woman closely with some apparent irritation or annoyance. Also seeming to scan the room for any potential threats.
Taking a moment to seemingly shake off her fall, the subject would eventually look around the area she'd stumbled into. Glancing up at the other set of eyes as if uncertain. Five of the 6 arms she was seemingly supposed to have shifting to show a guarded stance. Rounded fins where her ears were meant to be twitching and shifting with any sound around her. Tail coiling close to herself as if prepared to strike should the need arise.
{You've encountered ZB-256, or the Demolitionist. Though it seems her twin isn't too far away.}
Tumblr media
Kraken had personally went down to the hadal blacksite once again to try and catch that rat that had been escaping him. Now he had everything set mostly just more gear for his tendrils and items to use.
Walking down the hall with silent footsteps and the occasional clink of his tendrils, his eyes moved about to study what he could find or see. He turned and stopped staring at what he saw
Or who he saw in this case.
"well well well if it isn't ZB-256 been quite a while since I saw you " he chuckled out darkly with his tendrils raising for attack or defense.

got any hcs for broker?
well I accidentally ended up deleting the entire thing I wrote so I’m just gonna give eel broker headcanons because I had a lot down AUUUUUUUGH
Eel broker is roughly based off of a conger eel with a bit of moray eel mixed in there as well!
. This is because of scythe being a sea snake, which are actually some of the most deadly snakes in the world! They’re also the main predator to moray eels/eels in general, so I feel like it gives a fun power dynamic between the two due to broker not fearing scythe what so ever
2. Broker, being a pirate, likes to steal, I imagine that alongside stealing valuables/riches/and money from ships, he also steals things that would inconvenience them; say like someone’s glasses, or the nails from the door hinges, or the captains favorite book, anything that can just mildly inconvenience them enough to piss them off
3. Broker and subspace do NOT get along, at all, broker hates how annoying and flighty he is and subspace hates how unnerving and creepy broker is
4. Broker and scythe can both shapeshift to resemble normal demons
5. As an add on to that, both broker and scythe are pirates alongside medkit, they’re hated by both normal demons AND merdemons because of their tendency to sell out other merdemons for money and stuff, as well as plundering/robbing other ships
6. Broker is suspicious of Medkit and sword, mainly for swords association with venomshank and the enemy ships and Medkit because of his association with shurifin, but he’s curious to see how it’ll play out, so he hasn’t told scythe yet
7. He still has nerve damage yes
8. banhammer absolute hates broker as per usual, broker makes it his absolute MISSION to annoy banhammer as much as possible
9. Broker is a spy for scythe
10. Broker has a large collection of trinkets and knickknacks he’s stolen over the year
11. Broker likes to hang out in the shadows of caves and stuff when he’s in his mermaid form
That’s kind of all I can think about for now :3! Hope you like eel broker headcanons HEHEHE

Sho Sakurai goes to the romantic Miyajima Island on a two-day, one-night school trip with Shinichi Hatori, Eiji Kotoge, and Takashi Yoshimura on the "1 Oku 3000 Mannin no SHOW Channel" special
"The Nippon Television" variety show "1 Oku 3000 Mannin no SHOW Channel" "Adult Social Studies Field Trip SP", featuring Arashi's Sakurai Sho, announcer Hatori Shinichi, Biking's Kotoge Eiji, and "Heisei Nobushi kobushi'"s Yoshimura Takashi, will be broadcast from 14:35 p.m. to 16.00 p.m. on japanese time and on 6.35.-8.00 a.m. on european time 27.10.2024. This time, they will go on a two-day, one-night trip around Hiroshima and Hyogo.
Miyajima in Aki, home to the World Heritage Site Itsukushima Shrine, is a popular tourist destination visited by approximately 4.65 million tourists annually. It is counted among Japan's Three Most Scenic Views alongside Matsushima (Miyagi) and Amanohashidate (Kyoto), but we embark on a journey to discover why Miyajima was chosen as one of Japan's Three Most Scenic Views and why Itsukushima Shrine was built on the sea.
Arriving on Miyajima by ferry from the mainland, Sakurai and his friends are astonished to discover that, although the island is inhabited, there is absolutely no "that" on the island. What is that "that" that does not exist on Miyajima, which is known as the "island of the gods"? Having suddenly come into contact with the mysteries of Miyajima, Sakurai and his friends learn about the unknown relationship between Miyajima and Taira no Kiyomori, and the secret hidden in the large torii gate that stands on the sea, as they walk along the approach to the island with historical writer Kawai.
The shrine building style of Itsukushima Shrine, which incorporates the Shinden-zukuri style of the Heian period, is one with the sea and the mountains, boasting an unparalleled beauty. When you look around with your back to the worship hall, you will see a mysterious sight. Yoshimura, a history lover, is excited to learn the reason why Miyajima was chosen as one of the Three Most Scenic Views of Japan, and the romantic untold story behind it.
Afterwards, they will enjoy the trip atmosphere by eating local gourmet food at the Omotesando shopping arcade in Miyajima and making their own original rice scoops. They will also enjoy piping hot conger eel rice at a famous conger eel restaurant that is frequented by many celebrities.
After filling their stomachs, they head to Mount Misen, which towers behind Itsukushima Shrine. It is said that if they reach the top of the mountain, they will understand why Miyajima is called the "Island of the Gods." They take a ropeway to the middle of the mountain, and then walk for 30 minutes to the top. After seeing some amazing sights and finally relaxing in the hot springs of a long-established inn, Sakurai and his friends head to their next destination, Kobe.
The second day of the trip starts in Kobe. They elegantly enjoy the "world's best breakfast," created by a French master and said to have captivated the French president and Hollywood actors. After a luxurious morning, they head to their destination, Kawasaki World. It is an experiential museum where you can "see, touch, and learn" about the products created by the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Group, well known for its Kawasaki motorcycles. Kotoge, a motorcycle enthusiast who had been bossed around by the history-loving members up until now, is excited to see it.
The predecessor of Kawasaki Heavy Industries was a shipyard established in 1878 (Meiji 11) by Kawasaki Shozo, known as the king of shipbuilding. How did Kawasaki Heavy Industries, which was originally a shipbuilding company, become famous for motorcycles? Learn about the surprising history of the company, which not only made ships and motorcycles, but also made everyday items that everyone uses at home and Japan's first ○○, as well as its incredible achievements in Europe.
The company that Kawasaki Heavy Industries is currently focusing on is "that business" that is attracting attention as the next generation of energy. Learn about Kawasaki's amazing technology, which is a world first and has an eye on the future.
