OC in 15 - Jonah Rafferty
rules: share 15 or fewer lines of dialogue from an OC, ideally lines that capture the character/personality/vibe of the OC. Bonus points for just using dialogue without other details about the scene, but you're free to include those as well!
Thank you @serenpedac and @deepinifhell for the tags!! Most of these are from unfinished WIPs, but stealing the idea from Seren to link the fics I've actually posted. This was so fun to make and since I'm indecisive, I'll definitely be doing it for Côme and Madeleine too!
Since I'm really late to this, I'm not tagging anyone in particular, but if you guys want to do it, tag me!!
1. "What do you mean ours is the worst one?" He asks vehemently. "It's the only one still standing, Tina!"
2. Satisfied with the result, Jonah grins proudly. “Je dois admettre que vous êtes à couper le souffle, joli coeur.” He whispers in Nate’s ear, resting his hands on his shoulders. (x)
3. “I’ll wait”, he promises. “Even if it’s for decades. Even if it’s for centuries. I’ll wait for you.” (x)
4. He cannot flee for she is standing in the doorway, holding them all hostages. Forcing him to show his new found family how pitiful he is. ‘Don’t let them see how cruel you make me!’ he wants to yell, but she never knew how to listen to him.
“I was never that bad of a mother.”
He scoffs and what a mistake that is. That single sound leaving his mouth makes the whole dam rupture.
“Do you really want to know how bad of a mother you are? Do you want to know what having you as a mother felt like? Or do you want me to comfort you for neglecting me?” (x)
5. "You've never read Lord of the Ring?" [...] "Why?"
6. "[...] and I'm scared it'll blow up in my face at some point, just like it did with Bobby…” [...] “I know it's stupid, because they're not like him, they're nothing like Bobby, but I can't help it, Bo…” (x)
7. “Can’t believe you have such nimble fingers and still can’t operate this devilish box.” Jonah whispers, the warmth of his breath against his ear sending tingles all over Nate’s skin.
8. "Okay, buddy. We're going on a walk, but I swear, if you bring us to the pet store, one more time today, I'm bringing you to Verda's and letting the girls put whatever hair accessories on you."
9. "For years, I wondered if I had done something wrong to deserve what you did to me."
10. “What’s making you laugh?”
“It’s just something that you wrote.” Adam answers before reading Jonah's annotation. “‘These two-’, you’re referring to Merry and Pippin here. ‘-definitely hid stuff all around the house to piss off Lobelia’”
11. "Douglas, kiddo, please tell me you listened to, at least, half of my explanation..."
12. "Hi, dad..." Jonah greets Rook in a whisper as he sits down onto the grass. He takes a moment to think about what he's going to say. He already knows what he's going to say, but now that he's sitting there, he wonders if his words would upset his father. "She came to the station today. It's been 10 years since I last spoke to her..."
13. "Quick question, can vampires get tattoos?"
14. "Sometimes, I wonder if the way to your heart is made of plastic bricks." Nate says, watching fondly as Jonah excitedly unwraps the box of Legos.
15. "Hypothetically speaking, how does one get into the archive room?"
#digging through my older fics made me realize some of them deserve a little revamp#and I really should get back into writing more frequently (I say that every single time)#7. the devilish box is Nate's phone#oc: jonah rafferty#twc detective#sdm's writing

Despite his complaints, Eri actually didn't mind the three-way selfcest thing with Flandre and Seiga too much. Mostly because Flan is enjoying herself, and he pretty much did all the embarassment for her.
He'll also never admit he had a good time too, despite how ''fast'' he got tired. (10 sessions........)
#muse: eri#I really want to write about Eri and Flan's relationship one day#But maybe in another time#Just this popped in my head#But tl;dr: Even if it's not his fault Eri does feel somewhat a bit guilty about what happened to Flan#Likewise Flan sees him as a twin and the kind of person she wanted to be#emphasis on 'wanted' in past tense#After she realized what a mess Eri's life is and how much her family in the SDM loves her too

Remilia isn't fooling anyone by claiming she's a descendent of Dracula, but that's mostly because no one knows who Dracula is in Gensokyo. No one would give a shit.
Maybe Akyuu knows who Dracula is, and it's possible Kosuzu has a few books about him, but I doubt Akyuu would care to write it down if Remilia told her.
However, she might be able to get away with it for Sanae and especially Sumireko. In fact, they're both gullible enough to not question it. I imagine Sumireko might tell Reimu and go on some hour long infodump on how cool Dracula is.
Sanae though? Eh. She might talk about it with the rest of the Moriya Shrine. It wouldn't mean anything.
Recently, I realized that there IS one other character that has a chance to unironically believe this....and that's Yukari.
Hear me out, Yukari would likely have an idea on who Dracula is. Could she prove Remilia wrong? I certainly think she would try to under the guise of feigning interest. There's no way Remilia is a descendent of Dracula....right? Get Ran to figure that out somehow. Unless Yukari finds a way to contact Dracula directly (while possible in Touhou's logic, his existance is tied to the West. Finding him would be more arduous than getting the answer from SDM), Ran would have no real way to prove Remilia wrong unless there are records of her family history in the mansion somewhere. They do likely exist in the mansion, but finding it is a whole 'nother story.
Okay why do I care though?
Well, I imagine in the event that Ran actually does visit the mansion under Yukari's orders to verify Remilia's claims it would unintentionally start a whole incident in the mansion. Ran would likely lie about why she's visiting to preserve Yukari's dignity and use an excuse to snoop around. However, Ran's presence is nothing but suspicious no matter what she says. If Yukari's familiar is here that has to mean something serious right? Ran would be aware of that, but orders are orders.
Flandre is likely the only person in the mansion who would confirm her sister's gaslighting, but Ran needs proof and not just Flandre's word, so would she risk involving Flan with finding their family records? Flan would use any excuse to start problems for her own amusement, especially if it means dunking on her sister for petty reasons. However, Flan is not discrete. She would absolutely reveal why Ran is visiting. If Flandre steals Yukari's thunder then what's the point?
Meanwhile, the whole mansion would be attempting to monitor Ran to figure out the REAL reason why she's visiting.
The shenanigans are inevitable.

yeaaaaa cool guys :D
but i’ve been stewing these folks in my mind for a bit, so let’s do some yapping.
i’ve been thinking of a story premise of koishi and flandre being friends, it’s nothing revolutionary, but it is what it is.
remilia decides flandre needs some friends, so she does some looking around gensokyo, but can’t find many people. but she finds the komeiji family and sees koishi and decides, “well, if we want flandre to have a friend, let’s go with the one who can instantly and completely remove herself from the situation if something goes wrong.”
she also decides that flandre really needs a therapist, so she turns to satori. satori chooses to take up the job, because she can tell that flan is a really sweet kid deep down and wants to help out. but she also has a thought… what if flandre could destroy koishi’s state of unconsciousness? satori knows it’s a long shot, but figured that since yukari can manipulate the boundaries between abstract concepts, maybe flan’s powers can work for a hyperspecific niche as well. satori accepts the job and from there koishi and flandre’s friendship begins.
also there’s an idea of, “remilia sees how satori treats koishi and reflects on her own treatment of her sister.”
because i don’t view their relationship as super awful or super friendly but more “they’re on shaky terms.” since my headcanon age for how they are physically is around twelve for flandre and fifteen for remilia(ten/eleven for koishi and maybe late teens to early twenties for satori), i do imagine that maybe after whatever happened to their parents pre-turning, remi had to take on a parental role for some time, but due to lack of experience, wasn’t the greatest at it. satori can probably see that, and understands that even if remilia is kinda bratty and standoffish with her sister, she doesn’t know how to interact with her, but cares for all the SDM residents dearly.
maybe flandre would feel yearning in seeing how satori cares about koishi, getting involved in her interests and constantly checking in on her feelings, and wish she had that relationship with remilia.
koishi and flandre would at least get along eventually, i figure flandre would be able to remember koishi in an “imaginary friend” way, along with prior knowledge. flandre doesn’t want to break this toy because for once she’s actually having a two way conversation with one, and koishi doesn’t want flandre to forget her because she isn’t off-put by koishi’s tendencies.
so yeah, that’s my blabfest. it’s by no means a revolutionary idea, but it was fun to write down. it started from, “what if flandre was koishi’s babysitter?” to this, so yea !!

So a little while ago I did this background thingy of my interpretation of Hakugyokurou in Touhou 7, then left it at the sketch and forgot about it for a while. Then after changing up my art style a lot, I came back to this and decided to finish it as a way of testing out how my new style would look on backgrounds. Then when I finished it, I also didn't look at it for a while, until today where I decided that I liked it and wanted to post it.
Artist's Notes:
IDK how much this actually looks like Hakugyokurou tbh, but I liked the idea of there being a fuck ton of trees that just kinda grow on the stairs and Yuyuko's garden being on an island of some kind, though tbh as I write this now, this same feeling could be accomplished with just having the stairs be on top of a hill with the trees soooo... oops. IDK how mythologically/lore accurate that would be, but hey, just a cool idea I had. I feel like we need more fan interpretations of certain Touhou locations because I think those could be really fucking cool, like, I should do more of these myself because I have a fuck ton of ideas (plus I need the practice with drawing backgrounds so win-win).
Even if this... doesn't really look like Hakugyokurou in Touhou canon, this was still good practice for perspective, as well as getting better at drawing backgrounds/environment pieces (plus what annoys me is that I wanted to make the tori gate red but had to make it pink because the red was too much for the colour scheme and I should have adjusted the rest of the colours but I don't feel like going back and fucking with this piece now because I feel like I am going to end up like Sisyphus pushing a boulder up a hill with this drawing).
I think the reason we don't see those as often is because there's a lot more consistency with the location designs in Touhou than the character designs. Like, in the mainline games themselves, Marisa's outfit changes every fucking game, and small details in how characters outfits are drawn also lend themselves to that looser character design base. As long as you keep the core design philosophies of the character (i.e. Reimu keeping her loose, baggy clothes, Yukari with her hat and ribbons, Keiki with her headkerchief (I FINALLY LEARNED WHAT IT WAS FUCKING CALLED WOOHOOO!!!! I COULD HAVE JUST LOOKED IT UP ON THE WIKI THIS WHOLE TIME YAAAAAY), and many more examples) you're basically good. However, the actual locations in Touhou have been so set in stone with all the printed works that I think it's a shame we don't see any more variations of how they could look.
I'm not saying to completely ditch how each location is portrayed in games (also don't take this whole thing as me completely dissing the canon looks of the locations) but, treating the locations like character designs in and of themselves. Like, take Sakuya's canon design and her Touhouvania design. Both of them are very different takes on the same design idea. Yet you still recognize Touhouvania Sakuya as... well, Sakuya. And also, keeping the same mythological/historical/irl inspirations for said locations (again, don't know if having a floating island in the Japanese netherworld is accurate but it was a cool idea)
Some other location ideas I have include:
The SDM looking relatively normal from the outside but when you go inside it looks like a fucking gothic cathedral/castle because Sakuya keeps fucking with the space time continuum and there is also an organ the size of a fucking house in there that Sakuya dramatically plays. Also having it be surrounded by trees and having some mountains surrounding the misty lake would be cool as well.
Keiki's base in the animal spirit garden being reminiscent of the ancient technology in Laputa, some of the zonai technology in ToTK and some of the Lanayru desert buildings in Skyward Sword (i.e. Lanayru Mine, the shipyard, etc), as well as a lot of the other ancient technologically advanced sky people ruins seen in some other Zelda games, but with the clear Kofun era theming she already has.
Old Hell having a mix of western influences with it's prodominantly Japanese ones, mainly inspired by how the Palace of Earth spirits looks significantly more western than the rest of Old Hell (though that could be because it was more recently built idk), as well as there being emblems from the time that Old Hell was actually Hell being strewn about in the ruins of old hell, also being inspired by a Japanese historical anecdote about how certain families had specific crests/emblems representing them and how when a new clan would take over everything would be replaced with that families' emblem although my memory is a bit foggy (since I saw it a while ago) and I got info from a Youtube short so take this info with a huge grain of salt (and it anyone actually knows if this info is legit or not, please correct me if I get anything wrong).
Overall, don't think this looks too much like Hakugyokurou, but I am glad I drew this anyway because I needed the practice with drawing backgrounds.

I think it's so funny when people talk about Loki/Sylvie as though they're the main characters in a love story who are together the whole time when in the show they. Kissed like once, hugged a bit and then immediately fought and had zero romantic interactions since (well i'd even say the interactions were actually very much pointing against much romantic feels, as in Sylvie clearly doesn't wanna see him while his focus on finding her isn't that much of "i need her back" but is closer to "we need her help here since she was in the middle of it all really"). As in, it really shows how much energy people put into finding reasons to hate her instead of just admitting they don't like her and moving on
Yep. It seems to be in the "it's complicated" relationship status for both of them. And the "I need her back" definitely seemed like wanting her help because she was the last person in the citadel. People act like they are all over each other 24/7.
Like I really wouldn't be defending Sylki as much as I have if people hadn't been awful to SdM, KH, and Sylki shippers, and if I didn't constantly hear annoying and obviously misogynistic remarks about Sylvie. And the people that blame her character for all writing decisions they didn't like are fucking annoying.

Gears & Playing Analysis - Matthew Bellamy Song Writing Method [STYLE Series #004 - Muse (August 2010)]
Matthew Bellamy Song Writing Method
Muse music that is grand and spectacular, yet somehow gives a fragile impression. The secret lies in the exquisite chord progressions that Matthew creates! Commentary: Yugo Yokoyama
Diatonic chords in Key=C
Diatonic chords in Key=Am
T: Tonic, SD : Subdominant, D dominant SDm subdominant minor Tm: Tonic minor
Let us now analyse the characteristics of Matthew's compositional technique in terms of chord progressions. As you know, not many Muse songs are simply ‘bright’. Some people may think that this is because there are many songs in minor keys, but in fact, it's not that simple. In fact, if you actually analyse the melody and chord progression, you will find that there are quite a lot of major key songs in Muse songs. In other words, even songs with major keys are elaborately crafted in such a way that they are not simply ‘bright’.
As an example, let's check the chord progression of ‘Falling Away With You’ (Ex-15), which was also featured in the play analysis. The exact chord progression is as described in Ex-15, but Ex-A makes it easier to understand. The Dm and C/E in bar 1 are omitted as they are considered transitional, and the E/G# in bar 3 is simply E as it is based on the E chord tone.
Let's first check the Key. Key=C, as can be seen from the fact that the final solution is a C chord. So let's consider the chords that can be made on the C major scale, the so-called Key=C diatonic chords. These are the chords shown in Fig. 1 above, with the exception of Fm. Key=C songs fit these chords because the melody is mainly formed by notes in the C Major Scale. The problem then arises with the chords in Ex-A that do not fall into these categories, namely E and Fm. First of all, E can be considered as the dominant (V) of Key=Am, which is the parallel key of Key=C (see Fig. 1 below). This is not so exaggerated as a modulation, but the intervening Key=Am chord creates for a moment a melancholy atmosphere characteristic of minor keys. The other Fm is a subdominant minor chord (IVm) with the third of the subdominant F (IV) lowered by a semitone. This is not strictly a diatonic chord, but it is often used to add a sad atmosphere to a major key tune.
Thus, in Falling Away With You, the two chords E and Fm are major keys, but they are not simply ‘bright’. Incidentally, it is interesting to note that these characteristics are also common to early Radiohead songs. A comparison with the chord progression of ‘Creep’, one of Radiohead's most famous songs from the early days, should give you a better idea of this.
Next, let's analyse the chord progression (Ex-B) of ‘Take a Bow’. Again, as mentioned above, the subdominant minor chord is key. The part covered in Ex-B is Key=D, so let's consider the upper part of Figure 1, moving it up one note in parallel. If we do so, we can see that Gm (on B♭) in bars 6 and 9 is IVm. The B♭ (#5) in bar 2 is a bit tricky to interpret, but if we compare it to a subdominant minor Gm with a maj7th tension, we can see that its chord tone is almost identical (Fig. 2), so here, as well as the Gm (onB♭) in bars 6 and 9, we can It is reasonable to consider this as a subdominant minor chord. In other words, it can be seen that the technique revealed by the analysis of Ex-A is also used here.
Incidentally, Matthew is said to have used either guitar or piano when composing, and this song was probably composed using piano. It is difficult to come up with a chord progression of [B♭(#5)→D] while playing the guitar. However, it is a different story if you play the piano. If you lower the root note of B♭ (#5) [Bb+D+F#] by a semitone, you get the expanded form of D [A+D+F#]. The chord progression in Ex-B is the beginning of the song, but the same chord progression is repeated in the following keys [Key=G→Key=C→Key=F→Key=B♭→Key=Eb], while modulating to the key 4 degrees lower than the previous key, so please check them too.
Finally, one more characteristic of Matthew's music is that many of his songs use so-called ‘cliche’ chord progressions. A good example is the ‘Butterflies and Hurricanes’-style chord progression Ex-C. Here, a cliché like the one shown in Fig. 3 is used. Incidentally, Ex-17, discussed in the play analysis section, is also a cliche-based progression, so please check that as well.
Translator's Notes: This part of the article is short, but I was still just as confused with it as when I started reading it. Otherwise, I'm quite satisfied with how Deepl translated it. The next article will be about Dom's role as the drummer.

Hi lovely!
Omg please tell me more about Sharp Dressed Man!
I hope writing is going well for you 😁🧡🧡
Hahaha that one is currently the bane of my existence 🤦♀️😂
It’s my extremely NSFW Moon Knight fic about Steven Grant’s white suit. First two parts have been posted and that’s what’s in this doc — the third is in SDM Working and will be moved over if I ever fucking finish it 😭
But here’s a bit from part 3 that I am happy with:
You’re not restrained, not exactly; you could get up and walk away, if you wanted to. But his hands on you are better than steel, and you know what you’ll get if you stay.

Welcome to Samdal-ri final thoughts
Photography is a niche creative industry, and like creative industries everywhere, there's going to be abuse of power. And no one does anything about it, because the abuser is good at generating income. In Welcome to Samdal-ri, Cho Sam-dal is hounded by the media based on "false" accusations of workplace bullying by her assistant - a nasty, reactionary premise. And the idea that Sam-dal, a popular, established photographer, wouldn't have the resources or the will to crush that assistant - whether she was lying or not, especially if she was lying - is delusional. But the show wants you to *feel sorry* for Sam-dal, this sweet soul set adrift in the harsh tides of vapid metropolitan Seoul, and it does so in the most tone-deaf, infantilizing way possible. Episode 1 was dumb as shit, but I stuck in until Episode 3 because Shin Hye-sun & Ji Chang-wook have lethal star power. When I picked the show up again, it was because I saw that one clip of Sam-dal and Yong-pil hugging & kissing in bed, and thought, oh! Chemistry! Maybe it gets better!
It doesn't. My opinion has pretty much stayed the same. Welcome to Samdal-ri wants to be funny, charming and heartwarming, but only manages to be embarassingly insincere. The direction can't figure out how to choreograph the big comedic setpieces it wants us to laugh at, and the script is so incoherent that it borders on amateurish. Then Shin Hye-sun and Ji Chang-wook step in, and they're funny and charming and warm. These are two well-matched performers with similar points of appeal. The script writes Yong-pil and Sam-dal less like her love interest and more like her life coach, but SHS and JCW play the pair as 2 halves of the same organism. I rooted for their friendship even before their romance. Shin Hye-sun makes some stunning work of this material, and JCW was born to stare lovingly and tenderly. At some point, the story is simply too lost for them to carry it, but still, the effort was kind of amazing to watch.
I also really loved Shin Dong-mi and Yang Kyung-won as Jin-dal and Dae-yeong. If SHS and JCW are selling mediocre material, the material here is actually good and SDM & YKW play it so well. Like this show is genuinely funny whenever Dae-yeong opens his goofy mouth to opine after his ex-wife - the scene where he hallucinates her scaring off his brothers is a hilarious and perfect summary of his psyche. I expected them to remain on that level, until the story flips very effectively into Jin-dal's perspective and drops an interesting insight into their relationship. Dae-yeong loves his wife very much, but he's still a bumbling, thoughtless man from a wealthy family. A throwaway comment he makes about his in-laws' "disgusting" stew becomes a point of humiliation for Jin-dal, who takes emotional cruelty from his mother for daring to bring something polluting into her son's palette. He might be the black sheep, but he's still a child of this family. This is the bravest and most interesting thing Samdal-ri does, to implicate the lovable Dae-yeong as a very real part of Jin-dal's unhappiness as his wife. Naturally, the show, having walked right up to that point, retreats straight away, back into drunk conversations and increasingly unfunny hijinks. The very obvious conclusion to me was that Dae-yeong would give up his money and learn to live as a full, present adult, for the woman he loves. But instead, he returns back to his wealthy family (though he's lost enough of their money to be legally disowned), becomes the boss of the airline branch (though the entire show has been about how he should NOT be handling business), and his wife works for that airline (owned by the abusive family she hates). And there's a Saudi Prince thrown in there, somehow. Nothing's changed, not for Dae-yeong, not for Jin-dal. It's as if to say, yeah a man like Dae-yeong is only good for his money, and that's the only way he and a woman like Jin-dal can coexist. It's...realistic, I guess, but I don't think Samdal-ri realises how awful that ending is. Prime case of wanting to have your cake and eat it.
But also this: life is either ritzy like Seoul, like being a famous photographer or the wife of an airline CEO; or it's small and pithy like a near-empty village on an island. There's no middle ground, which is why Dae-yeong can't simply quit being a CEO and get a normal job. To depict the fall and rise of its characters, it fixes Samdal-ri and Seoul at ends of a binary, but even to that, it doesn't commit. Seoul is just this shiny place overrun by journalists. Samdal-ri is a town of working-class haenyos, but no one ever brings up money because they're too busy talking about how much Yong-pil likes Sam-dal. Sam-dal realises how much tourism has changed Jeju, but that doesn't complicate how she perceives the island or the home she's been away from for more than a decade. Yong-pil in Jeju, Sam-dal in Seoul, but neither place has any real presence, are little more than vague metaphors of an ill-defined rural/urban divide. How can their love take root without earth? Lol, yeah, maybe I am asking too much of another frothy Netflix crowd-pleaser, but it also want me to take it seriously so 🤷♀️ Here we are.
Anyways, to wrap this up, if you want a show about grown people going back to their parents with their tails between their legs, then just watch Once Again. It wears its heart on its sleeve, and manages to be funny and spontaneous without feeling like it's trying to squeeze sentiment out of you. And I started Summer Strike, mostly for comparison, and it's a show that at least knows what it wants to be.

My favourite thing about Reisen is she is, theoretically, absurdly competent. When we see a force of Moon Rabbits personally trained by Yorihime in SSIB, they're slightly better than the SDM Fairy Maids. Reisen is like Moon Solid Snake, she is several orders of magnitude more skilled than her peers. Then she went to Gensokyo where there's a shitton of people that good or better. Where she's nothing to write home about. That's really funny to me

hi who are your favourite touhou characters and why im mostly curious about the why
amazing question! the following list is in no particular order. wriggle does happen to be my favorite but it’s not by a huge margin or anything
first up we got wriggle herself. i’m gonna be honest the way i interpret her bears absolutely no resemblance to her canon character, but i think that the fandom has generally kind of adopted an interpretation of her that’s nothing like her in canon so i excuse it if everyone else does it.
why i like her? really cool design obviously the cape is really sick. what actually draws me to her though is mostly the fact that she’s a member of team 9. she’s basically just “kind of silly bug woman who’s really weird about bugs” which creates a lot of really funny relationships with other characters. i tend to write her as more of the “average person” of the group which also makes her relationship with mystia that write about a lot really fun because it’s just these two pranksters that are background characters from a story perspective and a life perspective (i mean they really are just random youkai). basically everything involving her is just… really casual, and fuzzy. she just doesn’t have a whole lot going on
also i get to write her being autistic about bugs which is really fun.
another one of my favorite characters is remilia, who i’ve only really had an excuse to write once. i go into way more detail about this in microsm chapter 6 but basically i just really love her contrasts. i like writing her as both childish and mature, both fearsome and welcoming, both powerful and vulnerable. it’s clear she does care very dearly for those in the mansion and i just love giving her a soft side where she does want the best for everyone, even if she looks evil. oh she eats people? god forbid women do anything
also because she’s a vampire who owns a badass huge western mansion. that’s so cool
in addition we have reimu, who i honestly just find to be a really nuanced character. i love writing her getting really existential about her life and getting worried about shit. i kind of project onto her sometimes but we’re not here to discuss that. she has a very interesting personality, fluctuating between stern or sad or determined or funny depending on even the slightest factors. being the main character she’s had the most actual stuff happen to her, she has the most story and has the most relationships with other characters. there’s really anything you can do with her, and if you can get her personality right then you can even make a good story out of her going on a walk. case in point: residual by me
the next ones i don’t really like for such complex reasons i’m not gonna lie
ran, who is probably my #2, is just a really nice character. it’s fun to write her being all motherly to chen, it’s fun to write her being a calculator for yukari, it’s fun to write about her being gay obviously, and i really like her character design. she’s just nice and i would definitely be friends with her if that were possible. i’m aroace but whatever the equivalent of a waifu is for aroaces? she’s that to me. i don’t wanna fuck her i just am obsessed with her non-romantically
lightning round:
i like sakuya because her time ability is really cool and it’s fun to write about this woman working herself to death. also bonus points because i love the sdm
aunn because she’s a really fucking funny dog
mystia because she’s a team 9 member too except she also does cooking and is in a band and i get to write her being gay with wriggle
kyouko because she’s really loud and also has a job at the temple and is also in a band
youmu because i like to imagine she has a huge inner conflict. read: any of my youmu x ran works
seija because she has so much potential to be a really interesting character, arguably even more than Reimu. i just haven’t wrote her because i still can’t get her character down
the entire palace of earth spirits because their family dynamic is absolutely hilarious and actually they’re all really funny characters even on their own
cirno because come on man it’s cirno
anyways that’s all the ones i’m obsessed with. i love all 2hus though

Im here because ive had Reimu thoughts and been wanting to make a post about since a few days ago. By some psychic chance, that ship tierlist happened and gave me further excuse to brain on it.
(Speaking of, on twitter i had fun doing that ship tierlist purely for reimu ships and tweeted that. And then i did it for every pairing on the list but im hesitant to reveal what ships im eh on so if anyone cares to know they can just ask me personally...!)
Anyway, heres me writing out a lot (But Not All) possible reimu character dynamics, be it romantic, platonic, or something else, going roughly by game order or by 'factions' because this is just the kind of thing i think about on the regular
So first among sdm, i like reimu/sakuya, thats a ship ! There's a Lot of reimu pairings where its the grumpy/begruding reimu with another who is unflappable and shady (yukari The biggest example but i'll get to her) so sakuya is just one of many that fill that role. So while its a 'common' dynamic among reimu pairs, what makes this unique is what it offers for sakuya. She's an odd person, the most youkai-like among a group of youkai despite being the only human, and even now can throw them off guard with her quirks. And i think while the likes of patchouli and remilia have long since come to find that charming about sakuya, and the likes of marisa and youmu would be put off even if they otherwise like her, reimu would be the only one who like, doesnt care or think sakuya 'strange' at all. The shrine maiden treats humans and youkai equally after all, and she's hardly a 'normal' human herself, so she doesnt see anything sakuya does or the way she acts as 'strange' for humans. Just a pair of normal women n_n
Speaking of remilia, i dont ship but i do think she and reimu have a funny longstanding relationship as frenemies. Remilia was one of, if not The very first to start regularly visiting the shrine after causing a headache-inducing incident after all. And reimu best represents the wonderful parts that gensokyo has to offer remilia and her whole crew (Marisa too but the witch regularly visits the mansion anyway)
Also while its on my mind, i know there are a few out there who like reimu being a sort of surrogate sister to flandre. The only reason i dont really think much of that myself is because i already completely assign that role to marisa (and uh, i guess okina now too?!)
I'm kinda only mentioning Youmu now because i will be mentioning every other playable character and itd feel weird to exclude her, but its a pretty straightforward friendship in my mind. Both youmu and reimu are (usually, at least on surface) dutiful and semi-serious about thier jobs, and get along decently. I think youmu's always looking to improve herself and sees reimu in particular as a standard to surpass, despite being very aware of all the shine maiden's many faults. 🤔
Also i think it'd just be fun if reimu gets along fine with yuyuko and doesnt ever get irritated with her antics the same way she would with yukari.
Wait back up, i totally forgot to mention Marisa at the start of all this. Uuuuummm!!! Maybe controversial but reimari isnt a romantic ship that excites me much, if at all? 😅 i mean its fine! They've known each other forever! They see each other almost every other day! They're the best of friends who consult one another for almost anything! They're rivals and compete every incident! But its like... they're so close and solid and understanding that i feel it really limits the kind of interactions or stories you can do with them. No hate but 99% of reimari fanwork is like super basic stuff where they enjoy each others cozy company. Not saying its impossible to introduce spice or conflict into it, but it can be hard to not make it ooc, at least in my perspective. 😅😅 so i acknowledge it as a ship but im not looking to get on board or anything.
Fellow magician Alice is a fun pairing too for Reimu. Now mariali takes 'priority' to me, but i do also like reiali. Theres a lot of similar beats, like theyve known each other forever (even though Reimu forgot because shes bad with names and faces of those who dont regularly visit 😅), and alice also sees reimu (alongside her fellow magicians) as someone to challenge. the difference i think is that reimu's apathy towards any sort of 'rivalry' genuinely irritates Alice who already has insecurities about her abilities as a youkai magician. So kinda similar to reimari and even mariali, except alice is a little more... neurotic when it comes to reimu, maybe? Might need to cook this one in the brain a bit more but i do like it! (And then reimariali has plenty of potential just as ship in of itself but also for messy complicated and unrequited different feelings across all three of them... 🤔)so...
okay really quick regarding the yakumo crew as a whole. Reimu thinks Chen is cute enough, like a niece. And Ran... There's a lot i could imagine under the layers where Ran is on the surface a lot more straight-to-business about the barrier duties compared to Yukari, and Reimu can appreciate that straightforward approach and respects it. I dont think i have it in me right this moment to come up with more on the spot, but there's Something there if i ever dig deeper.... ⛏️❓️
and oh my god finally yukari. 👁 Classic ship for me... Now let me just get one thing out of the way, one common idea among fans is that yukari played an active part in reimu's upbrining and training as a shrine maiden, basically playing a mentor/guardian role since she was young. I'm not against this idea in a vacuum, but for reasons which I hope are obvious, i dont subscribe to that headcanon. Now instead of trying to summarise yukarei, how about i just spin a tale...
You're the great youkai sage, Yakumo Yukari, trying to maintain gensokyo for the sake of all youkai. You've got lots of youkai allies ( some of whom you are in love with and some of whom you are divorced with but lets not get into that right now...). You also 'work' with humans on occasion but being a youkai means you gotta make sure to be exceptionally mysterious around em and keep em guessing 😎
Other than the child of miare, the most important human is the hakurei shrine maiden, who maintains the barrier among other duties. You're always aware of generally how the shrine maiden is doing through hearing about it from others, but otherwise theres no reason to actually get involved or meet them personally. Would be weird if youkai were seen interacting with the shrine maiden after all!
One day you hear about the latest shrine maiden, named reimu, helping to put together some kind of 'spell card' system? You go along with the idea, signing it off with the other sages, though it sounds like a fanciful idea and you have doubts if it'll truly change anything in the longrun. The nature of humans and youkai is pretty set in stone after all, so you have to wonder about the shrine maiden's mindset behind such a thing? And later, apparently she solved an incident with these rules too? Maybe you'll wait like another decade or so before you'll find out more about this reimu yourself.
You dont need to wait though because soon after yuyuko's big incident calms down and you think theres nothing more to worry about. That shrine maiden (and two other humans) have crashed into your home, harassed your shikigami, and picking a fight with you just as you woke up from a nap. And then after a chaotic fight, she yells at you to do your job.
So all around, a really striking first impression is left on yukari, who comes to realise, maybe not right away all at once, but gradually, that reimu is not only special, but she can be trusted for any kind of trouble that befalls gensokyo.
Tangent but i wish i could have been there with others during uLiL's release when reimu's urban legend is the gap woman and i could have been like 👀. And that was nothing compared to later acof where the classic barrier team end up being the ones to resolve the incident. The strongest pair?!?! Reimu actually said that!!?!
Anyway this post is too long i'll have to get into Reimu and Literally The Entire Rest Of Gensokyo in other posts later... if i feel like it 🫠
#touhou#hakurei reimu#i feel bad that yukarei kinda took over this whole post by the end but honestly saying all that was easier than trying to boil it down to a#- single paragraph..

I am sorry about my ranting about Sylvie. She is the most worse writing ever, specially the narrative protection she have, it's almost same with Tony stark but I give Tony little easy because they showing Tony's pain (mozlt justify his behavior) Rather than 'just tell and not showing it'
I kind feel sorry for di Martino, she famous because the hate loki's, fans have for Sylvie. Her face will be forever knowing as the worst written woman character ever in mcu and marvel fans
Why will no one talk about EMH and X-Men Evolution with me
It's fine, I get it frustrating when something you love gets dragged down with all these stupid writing decisions at once.
Tony is a character that can be great but I think to many stories try to make him in the right when he really is just being a dick regardless of his own baggage.
Listen, I never pay much attention to the real life actors I have not a clue about anything relating to SDM but I think it's clear Sylvie isn't going to be her break out role. IMHO I think the days of the MCU being an actor's career launch pad has past
