📃 What is the plot of your hyperfixation? And is it a movie, game, show, etc?

WELL the plot for FFXIV is. something and I say that because there's multiple expansions and the original release of the game was in 2010 before it was shut down in 2012, retooled, and rereleased in 2013. In "A Realm Reborn" which is essentially the base game now they'll make reference to things that happened in the original game, which is basically: the Garleans were going to use the second moon of the world and bring it down to usher in the Seventh Umbral Era and started the Calamity, wherein the dragon Bahamut came out of the second moon (Dalamud) and wrecked shit BAD before a Scion of the Seventh Dawn - a group dedicated to killing primals and keeping the peace in the land - named Louisoix Leveilleur sacrificed himself to stop everything and seal Bahamut back. This gets talked about A TON in "A Realm Reborn" and ARR is about how it's been 5 YEARS since the Calamity but the Garleans are up to something again! And the character you make becomes the Warrior of Light, the chosen person for the mother goddess Hydaelyn and you've gotta help stop the Garleans, and in the mission patches in the second half of the game it's very much a "Things are going great! ...TOO great..." feeling and I won't spoil the end but BOY do things happen and keep happening!!

"Heavensward" is my personal favorite expansion and storyline and following the events at the end of ARR you head to the snowy kingdom of Ishgard for refuge and agree to help them with some of the issues they're dealing with, most majorly the dragon Nidhogg is back and everything is going to go to shit!! Lots of dragons, tons of drama and emotional moments, great characters, I cried a lot. 10/10. It ALSO introduced the Warriors of Darkness, a group that is a parallel of yourself who want to save their world, and they're willing to destroy yours to do so.

"Stormblood" comes after and in order to aid the Garlean-ruled town of Ala Mhigo, the homelands of two major players in the series, you travel to Eorzea's Far East lands of Kugane, Doma, and the Azim Steppes in order to secure aid. It's a ton of fun, there's a minor character who reminds me of John Lennon unfortunately (it's the circular sunglasses), tons of action and drama, wild characters, and has a DRAMATIC climax. Uh-oh corpse gone where'd it go!!

Finally there's "Shadowbringers" which circles back to the Warriors of Darkness and their world, which you go to, in order to prevent the Eighth Umbral Era from happening and world's getting destroyed. I haven't finished it yet but it's VERY dramatic so far and very fun. Has a character that if the game were huge on here would Tumblr's Next Top Sexyman which, can I see why yes he's very dramatic and witty but he's also technically ancient as shit and I can't think about any of that. Fun villain! Hate considering fandom interpretation though.

Next month the newest expansion "Endwalker" comes out and we go to the moon at some point? THE FUCKING MOON?????

But anyway hundreds of hours of playtime in this bad boy. Great characters, fun to play, has made me cry a lot. Great time!

FFXIV has stacked as hell soundtracks. The one for "A Realm Reborn" is like 14 hours long I'm NOT exaggerating here it's super long but really good. Favorite right now though is from "Heavensward" because they went heavy on the organs in it buuuuuuut I'll share this one :)
