I learned today that the hosting site I use for the old Scroll of Thoth podcast will be shutting down at the end of the year. It’s a lot of work to rescue those old episodes and find a place to store them, so here is what I’m going to do. I will be adding as many of those episodes as I can to my Ko-Fi page in the next few weeks for monthly subscribers, starting with one of the most popular episodes – The Babalon Current in Modern Magick – available now.

I have broken down the episodes of the old Scroll of Thoth Podcast into three seasons. Season one is classic Scroll of Thoth with Colleen as co-host where we do interviews and talk about various subjects. Season two is when Zentra El and David Zey join me. Let's call these the Chaos Magick Episodes, though really, we were making the transition from Chaos Magick to Emergent Magick at that point. Season three is the OEM episodes with me, Zentra El, Katy Love, and a few others dropping by. My understanding is that all episodes will be gone from the RSS feed starting tomorrow and will only be available for monthly subscribers to our Ko-Fi. All of season one and two have already been uploaded there and I hope to have season three up today or tomorrow.

If you haven't heard I have a Youtube channel now. If you enjoyed the Scroll of Thoth Podcast or this blog, you'll probably enjoy the channel. Now you have something to watch while you slurp your ramen. Just don't slurp too hard, you'll get soup on your screen.

I find myself back on tumblr more. Not posting a lot, but I’m here. I’ve been on tumblr for almost a decade now, and despite all the shitty changes that have happened in that time, I still find it to be a refuge. Let’s admit, it’s just not like other social media. It isn’t designed to start arguments for attention (they happen, but the platform doesn’t promote it). It’s not as full of inane and vacuous content like Instagram and TikTok. Don’t even get me started on Twitter.
I love my tumblr people, I really do. Even though I don’t interact with them much, I appreciate them. The art, the musings, the porn (yeah, it’s still there if you know how to look.) There’s politics to be sure, and an occult community that likes to ask the wrong questions, but mostly, it’s beautiful. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Maybe its lack of popularity makes that possible.
That’s why I’m sharing this here first. I’ve told some people, I’ve made hints, but I don’t think I’ve made an official announcement. The Scroll of Thoth Podcast, which some of you know, is dead. You probably already figured that out by yourselves. Though, it has risen from the ashes so many times you might be holding your breath. Fear not. There is more to come.
Scroll of Thoth will now be a youtube channel. I’ve been spending some time gathering the equipment I need and learning how to do it. Yes, you’ll have to suffer my ugly mug. There’s good reasons and bad reasons for the change. Mostly good. I should be old enough to know better than making promises that I don’t deliver on. But, at this point I think it’s a done deal this show will happen. Let me tell you about the changes and why.
Some of it has to do with my own habits. Despite all its numerous flaws, I find myself spending more time on youtube myself. When I have a quick break. When I’m eating breakfast. I want a 15-20 minute video to pass the time. I need something for my eyes to do, even if it’s just watching a talking head. I’m a big history nerd, and there’s a lot of great history content on youtube. Of course, the occult community is there as well, but not in numbers. At least not that I can find. Some are really good, like Esoterica, Angela’s Symposium, Nordic Animism, and Aliaki. I grok what they are doing. But I want to do something that’s in-between scholarly and practical. I haven’t seen much of that anywhere.
Speaking of finding good occult media, one of the reasons for the switch is that I simply don’t think there is a site with a good algorithm for podcasts. Even if I find them, it seems every podcast is an investment. Either it’s three hours long, or it’s a series of over a hundred episodes. Sorry, old Frater T ain’t got time for that, and I suspect many of you don’t as well. I kinda hate the fact that I need a good algorithm to point people towards my show, but that’s reality.
The rest of the changes are for artistic purposes. First and foremost, no more co-hosts. Do not get me wrong, I love my co-hosts (I know you’re here Re). But I want to share what I know. I want to share my perspective and my magick, which I think is unique. I don’t want to bore my co-hosts. Sorry once again, I don’t want them to take the conversation in different directions. I want to talk about a subject at length, and you can tell I’m a wordy son-of-a-bitch, so I have a lot to say. I may do an occasional interview. I really do want to do one more episode of the Scroll of Thoth Podcast to give them a chance to shine. That will probably happen.
In many ways, I feel like I’ve made the Scroll of Thoth Podcast a prison when I made it “The Podcast of Emergent Magick.” Once again, I love Emergent Magick (EMK). I wrote the damn book. I still believe in it. All of my practice comes from an EMK perspective. I will even be doing a whole series on the new channel going through the Emergent Magick book chapter by chapter. But I want to do more than that. I want to talk about what trips my trigger. Like goetia, and animism, the paranormal, and Ancient Egypt. It will all be in there.
I have also found that I dig the art of video editing. It’s an amazing art form. I don’t think I’m any good at it. But that’s self-evident, I haven’t been doing it that long. I have done some, and I gotta tell ya, DaVinci Resolve is a powerful and free piece of software that’s a whole lot of fun if you’re willing to take some time to learn the basics.
Now you know. It’s coming. Soon. Yes, this is also a commercial venture. Not hiding that. But I’m fucking proud of my new company, Scarlet Ibis Apothecary. I think I make some exceptional candles and sacred oils. It has become a part of my magical practice, and I want to share it with people. Maybe sell of few candles.
The Emergent Magick Patreon will also be revamped. It will be changed to the Scroll of Thoth Patreon. More on that when I actually have good bonus material to make that worthwhile for people.
Last, my beloved friend, Zentra El, came to me in August and said, “Jamesy-boy, I’m taking you to Egypt.” He has agreed to front the money for the plane tickets and the tour. I need to come up with the cash I will need in country, and eventually pay him back. After I get a few episodes out, I will be starting a GoFundMe or Fundly account for that. If you’re interested in a magician’s eye view of Egypt, I promise, I’m your man. I will be sharing everything I learn.
This is too long already. I love you tumblr. Please join me for the ride.
