Grammar
Y’all, I don’t know if it’s just because I’m a nerd, or if it’s like a genuine pet peeve, but I can’t STAND when people have bad grammar, or can’t spell properly. Like, come on. You don’t know your apostrophe placements? Ain’t you grown? Yes, I text out of grammar, but that’s because I’m texting. You can bet your ass I spell right and use commas when I’m writing. I mean…being able to spell is what got me to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, so…maybe learn to spell, guys. 😭 So many of my best friends can’t spell for shit (if you’re reading this and you’re my bestie, I’m talking about you) like it’s so annoying bro, learn to spell, please. 😭 😂

Riley Gaines tears into Spelling Bee for allowing 'alternative' spelling of common word
Former Kentucky swimmer and vocal anti-trans activist Riley Gaines has torn into the Scripps National Spelling Bee for what she sees as a surrender to 'fabricated issues' in gender politics.
Gaines expressed outrage after it was revealed that the competition's study list for third graders included the word 'womyn' as an alternative spelling for the word 'women.'
The word 'womyn,' a spelling that originated in feminist movements as an effort to distance the term from its perceived association with the word 'man.'
Gaines blasted the decision by the spelling bee organizers appearing on Fox News, framing the decision as a symptom of broader cultural decline. 'How lucky are we to live in the United States of America, where the spelling of women, never mind the definition, has become a national debate,' she said sounding exasperated.
'These are fabricated issues created by people who believe they're marginalized or oppressed — who I believe, quite frankly, want to be oppressed, when, in reality, [they] live in the greatest nation in the entire world. So totally manufactured outrage.
'Scripps' claims the 'womyn' variant of the word is from the Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary which the competition uses for its official lexicon. Indeed, the dictionary lists 'womyn' as a spelling 'used in some feminist contexts.'

How old was Noelle when Dess Holiday disappeared?
One day I decided to answer this question by searching for Spelling Bee’s with the word “December” in them to estimate what grade/how old Noelle was when Dess disappeared, and it made me feel like Noelle goddamn Holiday searching for Dess. (I kept getting Spelling Bee’s IN December.)
But I found a few spelling bees that had December in them. Here’s what I found in my research.
Archdiocesan Spelling Bee Word List:
3rd to 4th grade. (8-10 years old)
Scripps National Spelling Bee:
3rd grade in the One Bee category. (8-9 years old)
2021 Words of the Champions:
One Bee. (The other spelling bee says one bee is between grades 1-3. Seeing as that one lists December as third grade, it's safe to assume it's third grade in this one.)
5th Grade Summer Enrichment Activity
5th grade (10-11 years old)
Summary:
Assuming the Spelling Bee was shortly after December disappeared, Noelle would be somewhere between the 3rd and 5th grades when Dess disappeared. (So, 8 to 11 years old.)
(If the links ever die I put wayback machine alternatives under "the "keep reading" line for most of the links.)
Archdiocesan Spelling Bee Word List.

Why is it called a...
The annual Scripps National Spelling Bee began today (May 30, 2023) and runs through the evening of June 1st. Have you ever wondered why they call it a “bee?” No, of course you haven’t. But I’m going to tell you anyway, and we’ll make it the Word of the Day.
The working theory is that the “bee” was probably derived from the Middle English “bene,” meaning prayer, blessing, favor, or even “help given by neighbors.” (“Bene” also meant “well” or “good” and you can still see that in words like benefit, beneficial and beneficence). By the end of the 18th century, the term “bee” was used to describe all kinds of cooperative get-togethers to accomplish a shared task – so we had quilting bees, spinning bees, corn husking bees and suchlike.
And besides, when it comes to the Spelling Bee, we’re all abuzz to see who will come out on top!

there’s always a three-second delay between typing a word and google docs declaring you spelled it wrong, so every time i’m like “oh my god. i did it. i spelled it right. someone call the scripps national spelling bee” only for google docs to come in with “girl, you really thought you spelled esophagus right on the first try? that’s so sad for you.”
#this blog is a safe space for people who can't spell#a shout into the void#the worst is then when you right click and it says 'unrecognized word'#basically 'bitch whatever you're trying to spell right now is between you and god'

Scripps National Spelling Bee Approves Feminist Sanctioned Spelling of the Word "Women" | The Gateway Pundit | by Margaret Flavin
😡 THAT'S NOT A WORD❗Womyn and WOMXN ARE PSEUDOWORDS❗
I WILL NOT ACCEPT THIS AS "NEW NORMAL"
👉A pseudoword is a unit of speech or text that appears to be an actual word in a certain language, WHILE IN FACT IT HAS NO MEANING. It is a specific type of nonce word, or even more narrowly a nonsense word, composed of a combination of phonemes which nevertheless conform to the language's phonotactic rules.[1] It is thus a kind of vocable: utterable but meaningless.
💥Scripps NATIONAL SPELLING BEE Approves Feminist Sanctioned Spelling of the Word “Women”
💥According to Merriam-Webster,the alternate (INCORRECT) spelling is “used in some feminist contexts,” apparently so feminists don’t have to use the term men... ...

Dec 15, 2024 12:50 PM IST According to Merriam-Webster's website, “Womyn” is a “variant spelling of women” used in a “feminist context.” The Scripps National Spelling Bee is facing backlash on social media after publishing its approved list of study words for third-graders. The list provides the spellings for children preparing for the upcoming competition, including regular words and alternate spellings. What has attracted social media users' wrath is the mention of the word “Womyn” as an alternate spelling to “Woman”. The inclusion of the word “Womyn” as an alternate spelling to “Women” has left people furious, with many slamming the organisation. (Merriam-Webster) What does ‘womyn’ mean?According to Merriam-Webster's website, the word is listed as a “variant spelling of women,” adding that it is “used in some feminist contexts.” Social media in disbelief:Including the word in the list prompted angry comments from social media users. An individual wrote, “Word of the day is WOMAN/WOMEN. womyn is not an English word.” Another added, “How come my phone keeps trying to auto-correct me whenever I try to type 'womyn'? Is it not woke?” A third joined, “As a former Scripps national spelling bee competitor, seeing ‘womyn’ accepted as an alternative spelling for ‘women’ is embarrassing. It turns a serious academic event into an absurd political spectacle.” A fourth expressed, “Spelling Bee now has womyn.” How did the organisers react?"All of the words used in the Scripps National Spelling Bee program are pulled from our official dictionary, Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary. During the competition, our policy is to accept any correct spelling listed in our official dictionary that isn’t marked archaic or obsolete. The alternate spelling ‘womyn’ is therefore included on our study list because it is listed as an alternate spelling for 'women' in Merriam-Webster," a spokesperson informed Fox News Digital in a statement. "In building our study lists, we aim to include alternate spellings for any words that have them listed in Merriam-Webster. The Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary is the final authority and sole source for the spelling of all words offered in competition," the individual added. What else does the study list say?“The School Spelling Bee Study List is broken down into three levels of difficulty: One Bee, Two Bee, and Three Bee. If you learn the spellings and meanings of these words, you will be well prepared for your third-grade classroom bee,” says the study list. It specifies that the “One Bee” words are for first grade, “Two Bee” is for second grade, and “Three Bee” is for third grade. Get Latest Updates on...
