Saiyuki ramblings & fic recs

Ok. So I'm rewatching Gensomaden and my heart is so full of nostalgic love 🥰🥰🥰

However. A couple things. I forgot about the animation quality. Yikes.

Gojyo's pink hair. Just. Ick. No.

The swearing! I love it!

I usually watch anime subtitled, but Gensomaden has excellent voice actors and Braden Hunt (Hakkai) owns my soul. I will not tolerate English on any other season haha.

Now to the important stuff. THE SHIPS.

53, 58, 83, 358, 39 (not so much my cup of tea, but to each their own). I've always been Team 53 (hate sex and gun kink, anyone?), but after watching this, it's very clear how much 83 is, like, a thing. I forgot how much of an actual friendship they have. Sanzo actively doesn't hate Hakkai, he even jokes around with him. I can't! How did I not notice that before???

I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for this whole fandom. It was the first fandom I wrote my own fic for. It was the first long series that really gave me story and laughs and all the feels. I fell in love with all four of the guys, and even with some of the secondary characters.

That being said, I'm itching for some good Saiyuki fic. If anyone else is interested, I strongly recommend any fic by the following authors (all on AO3 and LJ for the real old schoolers out there haha):

I like how Derek tries to pretend he’s annoyed by Stiles always showing up at the loft, but it’s obvious he doesn’t really mind. There’s also a hint of domesticity in this, and it’s really lovely.
