🌟🌟 another ‘i didn’t blog in a while’ update! 🌹📚🐾

Long time, no blog. It’s a cold January, and classes are in full swing again. After a pleasant and chilled Christmas back in Massachusetts, I am happy to be back and in my university routine again. Balance is key for me, and while we are halfway through our 3rd week of second semester, I am slowly finding my rhythm. I am working about 3 shifts a week, attending some interesting extra lectures, and trying my best to find time for fun, societies, extra readings, and travel! While my life moves quickly, I often lose this blogging thing to my long list of priorities. And - I never made a Turkey blog. I am sorry, it was an amazing trip, might me the best one yet. However, I did post some photos on my Facebook, and one day I will make a picture book of my travels while at university.

Some exciting things in my life include:

📝 I am taking an Ethnography course (basically, anthropological field work, the ethics of it, and how we can do our own field research!). My small group have chosen to do a project over the next few months focusing on Hibernian Football Club fans residing in Leith. We had our first ‘deep hang out’ in Leith last Sunday, and it consisted of chatting with locals for 3 hours in a pub. I really really enjoyed the act of doing anthropology, and it makes me love the field all the more. Hopefully many more enjoyable research days will come soon!

🐾 My flatmate Emma is currently taking care of a sweet little puppy named Ivy, so we have a furry friend in the flat! She is a franchise, and she is sweet, boisterous, and full of kisses. I love her. She is also currently sniffing my laptop. Ooh, and she just ducked under my duvet to cuddle. Too. Cute.

🇵�� This weekend (Feb 1-3) I am flying to Katowice, Poland. While I may be calling it a holiday, my main reason for going is to take a tour of Auschwitz concentration camp. This is something that has been on my list for a long time, and I feel that although it will be a difficult and painful experience to tour the site of atrocity and suffering, it is necessary and something I must do. It will be a quick and fascinating trip, I hope that I will learn as much as I can in my time there.

👭 My little sister is coming to visit me in February! It will be her high school break and she recently got accepted into Glasgow and St. Andrews (yay Lena!!) so she’ll be visiting the campuses as well as a short trip to Aviemore, Scotland! I love her very much, and I can’t wait for her to get here!

My life here seems to be one exciting thing after the next, and without being too cheesy, I feel that sometimes I let out a joyful tear if I think about how lucky I am! Sure, there are everyday hardships, the stress of class and friendship drama, but more than anything I am happy beyond belief. And it’s good!

just a little longer!

it’s hard to not constantly think about how many days i have until returning to Scotland, but it is always on my mind! this summer has really flown by and while i can’t say it’s been a whirlwind of fun, my plan to work a lot and make money has left me at a pretty solid financial state for the upcoming year. i plan on finding more work while i’m at school so i can continue to save towards my traveling next summer, but as for now i’m feeling that i am in a good enough place to hopefully plan some upcoming trips. Denmark? Turkey? Eastern Europe? who knows what this semester will bring!

this second year i have set some goals for myself, and i feel that if i write them down i can look back to do checks on how i am doing! so here are my 2 goals for my time as a second year!

1. get involved in at least 2 extracurriculars! while it was beneficial to take time to get myself situated during first year, i want to put my free time towards fun and interesting extracurriculars and societies. maybe even a sport? but who knows, i think sports mari retired in sophomore year of high school... anyways i found myself frequently holed up in my room watching mindless television during the winter months of last year - and i feel that my lack of things to do definitely attributed to my seasonal depression, which sucked. 

2. travel around scotland (and in general)! I feel like i didn’t take advantage of my situation enough last year and have barely seen any of scotland itself! it’s a definite priority to explore my new country and appreciate her beauty as much as i can, seeing as i’m looking to possibly study abroad in my third year. 

soon i will return to my favorite place, i can’t wait!!! eeek!!!!!!!!
