I’m writing a NA steampunk space opera novel entitled “Into The Webs” about an alien planet with a prejudiced society of humanoid bugs that segregate different types of insects in different designated locations. Should be released in 2026 if all goes as planned, though I’ll need some beta readers next year!

This is my main protagonist: Hormi Amorgo, and main villain: Majele Scorpio, respectively.

Hormi Amorgo is a sugar ant who runs away from his ant hill to discover the outside world he’s been lied to about. His name is a play on the Spanish word for ant: “Hormiga” and mi amor. He’s also a sex repulsed aro Ace exploring his confusing lack of attraction and alterous feelings for a butterfly he meets in the uptown Metropolis.

Majele’s a scorpion and he along with other arachnids are the lowest class and have no designated area and thus little to no rights anywhere. He’s a crime king of sorts who vows to take care of his people. His and the other arachnids wear romantic era inspired clothing. His first name Majele is Yoruba (a west African language) for toxic. This is my first concept art for them!! The one of Hormi is actually a year old, so also think of this as a progress comparison if you’d like <33.

Today's sapphic book of the day is A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine!

Ok so for day 2 of pride I need to tall about my favourite media representation and i realised something

I dont think I've ever actually seen a lesbian on TV shown in a respectful way.

I can list gay men and mspec women but I dont know any lesbians...

So anyway best lgbt rep I've seen:

Colin Colchester-Price & St John "Colchester" -Torchwood [season 5 onwards]

Torchwood, if you didnt know, is a doctor who spin-off about a group of lgbt people who live underground, hunt aliens, and stop the world from ending. It ran on TV from 2007-2011 (untill season 4) then moved to Radio in 2016 (I think) for Season 5 & 6 and some stand alone specials.

Colin, a middle-aged, Muslim, man of colour, and a house-husband (for the depressing reason of he was too frightened, after a rise of hate crimes in Cardiff, to leave their flat) moved to Cardiff from the safer Hove becuase Colchester wanted the job in Torchwood and couldn't convince Colin to stay in Hove. We hear him tell his experience of living a life without his husband around due to his work even learning that he goes on holiday by himself.

We hear St John (pronounced like "sin-jun" but usually only goes by Colchester), a middle-aged white man who fought in the Falklands war, was a civil servant, and then joined Torchwood retell his experience and trauma of living through the HIV pandemic and navigating the difficult world of being gay and in the military.

We get to hear how supportive Colin is of Colchester and his work and how grateful Colchester is that he has him and all that cute stuff. I mean they get married on a beach in the rain for crying out loud!

Saying anymore would be a spoiler.

Almost very character in Torchwood is LGBT (even the straight ones get scenes kissing queer folk)

But here is the downside:

(and bare in mind i do love this show but it pays to be critical)

the underlining narrative of the whole thing being "being gay is what happens when your """normal""" relationships fail", the only 2 wlw relationships ever mentioned in 6 seasons of this queer scifi are (1) between a manipulative alien possessing a woman and a vulnerable woman who only turned to her because her male love interest rejected her and (2) a woman who was drugged and an alien possessing a woman, "mspec people are sluts (tm)", the episode about a gay love story titled "immortal sin", and Transphobia(tm) which they apologise for then make 1 of 2 trans/nb characters an nb alien genetically engineered sex slave and the other one implied to be either trans or intersex the Trasnphobic(tm) one because?

(Yes Janto, the main love story from this series, IS an honorable mention but it plays in the first point that "gay happens when """normal""" relationships fail", one of those 2 was the transphobic implied trans/intersex person, and with a little bury your gays added to flavour).

But we are so starved for any crumb of rep we sit here and love it and fuck it all, it's one of my favourite series of all time.

Tldr: the best rep I know is Colin Colchester-Price & St John "Colchester" from Torchwood (which was shakey at best in the way they handled lgbt issues but it's the best lgbt relationship I've seen).
