My Virtual Titration game is now available! It’s going to be tested later this week by students in the general chemistry labs at my university, but its available free for anyone to play, so if you are interested in trying it out, I’d love to hear what you think!
The game is a virtual acid/base titration where you can choose to titrate strong or weak acid/base. You can customize a lot of factors in your titration as well, such as the pKa/pKb if you are titrating weak acid/base, the concentration and volume of your analyte, the concentration of titrant, the equipment used (ph Meter or indicator), and more. This should be a useful tool if you are studying acid/base chemistry, if you want to brush up on your titration skills, or if you just want to have some fun playing around with chemistry concepts! The visuals are super cute as well, especially Pang, the chemistry cat (designed by @squidmer and named after one of the professors at my university).

I would most definitely read Alternative Options (and the others as well, but I really, really like that one)!
Yes, it feels like the one there’s the most need for, too! Between the Shores covered some similar territory but there’s room for more focus on actual sexual activity that goes outside the heteronormative script.

scientistsarepeopletoo replied to your post: Well, it looks like I’m going to be a TA this...
Nice, haha. Do you know what class it’ll be?
Nope. Hopefully they’ll tell me before classes begin. *fingers crossed*

I decided to go ahead and make my game, Construction Cat, public. If you decide to try it out, I’d love to hear any feedback you have! I have lots of ideas for ways to expand the game, so if you enjoy it, please do let me know so I have motivation to do more work on it!
Here’s the blurb:
As the foreman of the Cat City Construction Company, Construction Cat is one busy kitty. However, he has a big problem: he’s lost all of his construction tools! Can you help him find them all?Construction Cat: A Level Building Game is a platformer with a twist. Instead of simply playing through pre-designed levels, you must use the provided blocks and your own design skills to build each level in a way that allows you to complete all of the level objectives.  In the first six levels, you must recover Construction Cat’s level building tools. Each tool will allow you to move a different kind of block, leading to new level building possibilities. Once all of the tools have been collected, you must play through the remaining levels to wake up all of Construction Cat’s co-workers so they can get back to work, saving Construction Cat’s construction project!
I also made a fun rhythm/memory game called Impromptu for a game jam. It’s quite fun (at least I enjoy playing it a lot!). It starts out easy but can quickly become quite challenging.

Assumption: You have a ton of cool sciencey-themed things (like the syringe pen!)
I guess...maybe. Less than I would expect from myself. I have that syringe pen, one beaker measuring cup, an hour glass that I think looks like a p-orbital, my periodic table poster, star trek poster, space curtains. I really really like those cups that Target sells around Halloween that say "Poison" or "Venom", especially for drink mixing. I don't have any science t-shirts or anything (except the tshirts the school gives us for research presentation nonsenses).

The best is when they ask you to change something during the first round … then ask for it to be changed back during round two (conveniently forgetting they were the one to suggest the change in the first place >_<)
yes! that's the worst!

scientistsarepeopletoo replied to your photo “Anyone want to know what grad school is like? This. This is grad...”
Ugh, I feel you. Grad school homework takes an obscene amount of time out of your week. I made some great friends with my classmates though because we spent so much time working on problem sets together!
YES! My cohort just finished our first Homework Think Tank (see photo) and it was so useful for both homework help and getting to be way more comfortable around each other. First week of courses has been so intimidating, but hearing about how everyone else is also intimidated is well....less intimidating! I'd totally recommend something similar if you're starting in a program. I literally just emailed everyone with a time that was convenient for me and a location and most of the others showed up! We're going to meet again on Saturday, but hopefully we'll have Friday evening to chill our brains out a bit. The second years are organizing a bowling night!

scientistsarepeopletoo replied to your post “Regarding the recent buzz about ladies in science, I'm also going to add that it even makes dating complicated. On numerous occasions, guys lose interest in me or completely stop talking to me once I've mentioned I'm getting a PhD. I've been told that it makes me "intimidating", which I think is an utter load of crap. I'm still a person, regardless of being in science or getting a PhD. /rant”
I've met guys who have flat out said they would never date girl with a higher degree than them but when asked why couldn't think of any concrete reasons. Deep-rooted sexism sucks and can make otherwise reasonable people think/say/do shitty things :/
Internalized sexism is a major problem in this society, amongst other internalized prejudices. Its really unfortunate.

scientistsarepeopletoo replied to your post: Checking out prospective grad schools ...
If you can, chat with some of the grad students in the labs that interest you. They are (usually) honest about their PI and can alert you to someone who might do great science but is just terrible, terrible to work with/for.
I'm definitely going to try, all my undergrad profs suggested the same thing. I'm not going to rule this PI out entirely (because I mean, her projects sound really neat) so hopefully her students can shed some light on what it's really like to work with her. Thanks! :)

@scientistsarepeopletoo what is that green text on your screen?
I have my terminal setup with cool colors to look all hacker-esque, though in reality I’m just frantically submitting jobs to prepare for my group meeting tomorrow!
