RESEARCH NOTES – Dr. Lendärr
ENTRY 93 – SUBJECT 5
[sounds of the clearing of the THROAT] Subject 5 is the first living specimen I have received. It is gaunt and pale – clearly hasn’t fed for a while. I am considering watching for further... effects... of starvation – as it seems to exhibit dulled senses and a certain tolerance of – or resistance to both mental and physical effects of Magic. However, I am far too excited to see a Flower in Bloom.
ENTRY 94 – SUBJECT 5
[muted SNARLING, sounds of SCRATCHING] Merely sensing it whipped it into a frenzy – I- [muffled CHATTER] -yes, yes, WE hadn’t even brought it into the room with the subject. It seems that, in a Bloom, a Hexstarved is most dull of mind yet sharp of senses, with suddenly... supple and brawny...-er musculature almost leaving me worried – even with me behind plated glass and it behind iron bars. Interesting.
Entry 101 – SUBJECT 5
[very FAINT sounds of SQUELCHING] It tears into the flesh like you simply wouldn’t believe. I have seen actual animals less ferocious and ravenous than Subject 5. Perhaps it is one, despite what it calls itself. Consumption of either flesh or blood seems to progress the Bloom. [muffled CHATTER] Yes, perhaps towards... something. Though it grows less ravenous, it is clear that is is not soon returning to its gaunt, weak... meek state. On the contrary, truly robust, powerful-seeming muscles form in tight knots across its crooked back in real time, snapping its posture upright, even as it hunches over the corpse, its teeth and nails digging in. I worry not about anything happening. [muffled, yet seemingly LIGHTHEARTED and TENSE CHATTER of MULTIPLE VOICES overlapping] See, the urge with which it devours easily derails any semblance of thought it might have been able to otherwise form.
Entry 104 – SUBJECT 5
It seems to have... completely stopped feeding. It is not Blooming anymore, I don’t think. W-what words is it mouthing? I do not know what to call this state. I should open its cage. What did we feed it again? [muffled CHATTER] A Verbal Magus? Whatever. I should open its cage. [muffled CHATTER] Oh! How about a Blossom? The very apex of the Flower, at which it has consumed the most Magic. Now THAT is a good name! I should open its cage. Wait, if it consumes Magic, what if- I should open its cage.

he can't keep getting away with this
#i love dark frontier because it is full of insane parallels within the episode but somehow this one is the craziest to me#it is evident that they sort of parallel borg queen with janeway throught the episode but they also do parallel janeway with her parents#and it is just. sad. i got a whiplash at first when her reaction to reading her parents logs wasnt negative but was one of admiration almost#and then doctor adds that ummm not every scientist brings their four year old daughter to delta quadrant and she quickly recovers#i think it is really important to note that her first reaction to them isnt negative despite the fact that they obviously doomed sevens to#this fate. because of course why would it be. she is as bonkers as them#i wish that the assimilated parent that borg queen showed to seven was her mother instead of her father#would have made more sense with narrative parallels they had going on there#star trek voyager#kathryn janeway#seven of nine#my post#i am sorry but it is my firm believe that freuds favourite episode of voyager would have been this one

"Becoming a member of the High Court instructs its acolytes in many fields," Artificer spoke, the blue holographic screen projected from her wristband tearing every so often with pixelated hiccups; coaxing a small hum from the woman as she typed. The illuminated keyboard accenting the hologram let out soft beeping sounds with every type; clearly another document that she would put either into the backlog to finish later. "I'm well equipped for medical checkups, as Seeker is currently below."
"You remember the basics, yes?" the Artificer spoke, voice characteristically flat as the display disappeared, but carrying a certain warmth and gentleness with each word spoken- better to talk him through it step by step rather than rush it and possibly scare him; considering the power he retained in his body, such an incident would be nothing short of catastrophic.
As Viend took a few moments to think, elongated clawed fingers tapping against smooth hollow metal before he hummed, the woman let out a relieved exhale. "I promise you that the procedures haven't changed much since the days of the Contact Light- though, I would like to be more thorough to understand your bodily composition after your.. unfortunate, affliction. If you feel uncomfortable at any point, do not hesitate to let me know."
"【Mm.」"
"Then, we should start slow."
Opening a drawer and retrieving a stethoscope-like device, the Artificer connected the auxiliary to her helmet port before placing the flat side upon Viend's chest; pale brows etching underneath her visage at the lack of sound; further gliding across his chest; ridged and scarred in places where his armor had welded to his flesh and become one with his form, only proved a further lack of results in her search.
"Are.. you breathing, at all?"
"『...can??t. Lungs- don'?t wor??k.】"
"...Interesting.."
The subtle sounds of shifting were clear, showing that her medical device had not broken, and yet.. the repetitive deep thump of a consistent heartbeat remained ever elusive, and any sign of breathing was absent.
Within his chest cavity was.. nothing, but silence.

Watching Those Old Scientists with an 8 year old Trekkie in training:
- Spock “laughs” at Boimler’s joke when they’re by the portal and she screams - legitimately screams - whips her around toward me and says, “What is happening? Why is Spock laughing? I’m scared! That’s so scary!”
- (I have to pause and rewind because she’s completely missed Boimler’s reaction. I’m desperately trying not to laugh)
- Chapel and Boimler are in the turbolift talking and after Boimler says he’s afraid he’s messed up Spock, she says, “Wait. Does Spock have a crush on Boimler?”
- (Spoimler nation rise. Even an eight year old sees it)
- Turbolift conversation ends and she looks at me, brow furrowed. “Spock shouldn’t force himself to be human. He’s Vulcan and human. He should be himself.”
- (Out of the mouths of babes, right?)
- Mariner and Boimler are in Pike’s ready room and she’s nodding along as Mariner talks about Hot Spock. “It’s the ears,” she says confidently. “But he shouldn’t smile. That’s creepy.”

I found myself being dragged out into the wilderness today by my enthusiastic partner.
Her enthusiasm an energy strong enough to rub off to me. But then again the prospects of studying Pokemon excites me either way.
Though I must say . . observing her, I find her methods of "hunting for Pokemon" to be strangely fascinating.

there is so much aggressive misinfo abt toxic shock syndrome out there its a nightmare
#1st off 80% of the population is just straight up immune#no it is not caused by chemicals on tampons and all but one of the leading scientists who study it assert that the risk comes from#oxygen entering the vaginal canal which causes staphylococcus aureus bacteria to multiply -> bacteria produces TSST-1 toxin#-> toxin enters bloodstream -> causes TSS#the reason that heavy absorbancy products create more of a risk is they give the bacteria more room to multiply this is why the rely tampon#caused a spike in TSS cases in the 70s-80s they were fucking massive#there's disagreement from scientists abt how much the amount of time you leave a tampon in actually affects the risk of TSS but to be safe#still just keep it to 8 hrs because either way old blood is not great for introduction of other potentially harmful (but not deadly we're#talking like yeast infections here) bacteria#literally there are like 20 US cases of TSS per year. plenty of those aren't period related#chances of getting it even if you leave a tampon in a few hours more than 8 are practically 0#also cups can cause tss for fucks sake. its also practically a 0 chance but saying they can't cause it is completely untrue.#i've got a really good article discussing how TSS actually works if anyone wants it just send me an ask or a dm#.log

having an idea for a game but it's miles above your skill level
#personal#elevator pitch: point and click 2d art-heavy narrative driven game. mc is a scientist in a closed off laboratory in a post apocalyptic worl#player plays as the mc going through a daily routine consisting of taking care of a few patients that are dying of#the zombie plant esque disease that has wiped out humanity. working towards breakthrough day. on which they should#hopefully have managed to recreate the exact circumstances in which patient zero got turned#in hopes to reverse engineer it into a cure#solving puzzles along the way to open up new locations within the labs to piece together what exactly went wrong in the first place#and like!!!!!!!! i know i could do this. realistically i know i could put a game like this together but it's just#the dev heavy stuff that is stopping me because well i am just a game artist JHDGJFDKGJDFGKFDG#all the patients are in different stages of infection and it's all affecting them differently because of different variables#only one of the patients is actually fully lucid and can be spoken to on the daily#but then on breakthrough day they end up taking their own life JUST like patient zero did exactly a year ago#and it turns out that despite showing little symptoms on the outside the plants were taking root inside of them#which has been foreshadowed through earlier gameplay with the patient feeling itchy but not being able to scratch the itch#and on breakthrough day the flowers inside of them bloomed... and it was unbearable so they used the gun that they took#a year ago from patient zero's body (their colleague) to end it all. and THAT is what ends up turning them into a plant zombie#and the player has been working towards getting into the labs where it all started to find patient zero's body and like#get access to the logs of their last few days. and after the patient in the present has passed they listen to the logs#while the credits roll. and patient zero describes very similar symptoms in the logs. and they also couldn't have been saved#ig the patients in this could be some sort of metaphor for like. how illness doesn't always come with (the same) symptoms for everyone#and how even if it's not visible on the outside someone might be struggling a lot etc etc. something in that direction#anyway hi does anyone here see my vision. do you understand what i'm going for. anyway yes i hope i can make it reality one day

Sits in shambles I didn't read maybe Jorge's id correctly in the mysterious hermit logs the first god knows how many times I read them and only just now realized that it's the same id as the scientist that speaks in the agricultural notes log why must I be so bad at reading
#rat rambles#oni posting#on the bright side thats one mystery id kind of solved#by kind of I mean its most likely jorge but theres no way to comfirm it#this does make me feel like there might be some other b363 thing I missed but Im not sure if I doubt myself enough to go check rn#they are another character seen in story trait logs alongside an in game lifeform origin log just with critters this time#Ive made baseless speculation on who b363 could be based on what named characters we have without ids but its nowhere near confirmed#at least from what I remember but again Im starting to doubt myself a lil so I might double check at some point#the only idless characters we have fully marked off is nikola Im pretty sure#although based on the characters we do know anything abt itd most likely be either ada or liam but thats not saying much#ada is a fairly high probability tho since we basically 100% know that shes a part of the bioengineering department#liam possibly is too but thats more of a educated guess then smth particularly implied#Im glad I've finally realized who our lovely plant guy is tho#alas even if I find some hidden b363 content that still leaves I believe 3 ids unidentified#well we do know that at least one of them is steve but we don't know which one#and while we can take shots in the dark at who the scientist is theres also a second guard#and out of everyone we know bits and pieces abt theres no one who fits that bill or at least not anyone Im remembering#every other mentioned character is some flavor of scientist or is implied to be#not counting quinn but they are also off the table on account of not being a gravitas employee#so basically unless I missed smth the only previously established character that we know for sure is in that log is steve and the other two#could easily be any of the currently unused guys#and the other guard basically has to be unless theres scientists here that also double as guards

trying to feel more secure in expressing myself as kin like discussing memories and the way the experience is for me personally. I am of the firm belief being kin is a highly personal experience and that everybody approaches it differently and gets different things out of it. however I cannot escape the fear of being mauled for being "wrong" somehow. even though I don't think there's really any "wrong" way to be kin. my double standard everybody else is chill as fuck but IM doing it all wrong. lmao
