I wanted to share one last image from our visit to the Barnes Modigliani exhibition now that the exhibition has closed. Notice how the curvature of model and muse Jeanne Hebuterne’s neck mirrors the curve of the chair and the seem to caress. At the same time, Modigliani has seated her awkwardly in the chair—partially off, somewhat twisted and leaning out of the chair. Soutine.....so glad I got to hear #beverlyfishman speak on her relationship to this work, when Soutine hits you he gets you good....i first fell in love with his portraits when i started painting portraits less then 10 years ago then slowly his genius crept up on me and now, I can’t get enough, these birds fish and beef are amazing as are a few other gems like flowers and an image of his first studio building in Paris.....#soutine #schoolofparis #schoolofparispainters #modernism #jewishartists #oilpainting #oilpaint #genius (at The Jewish Museum)

Portrait of Her Husband, Jehudith Sobel, 1957. Sobel was a Polish-Jewish-American artist who can be most closely identified with the School of Paris painters. Indeed, this work evidences the influence of Bonnard, Matisse and Modigliani (notice the nose). Sobel is well-known in her native Poland, Israel and France. This is not ours but we wanted to share this lovely Still Life in Rose by the School of Paris painter Henri Hayden.
