Let me paint a scene for y'all. It's July, in North Carolina and it's 7am. You're outside, in the garden, putting in work, because you know, once that midmorning heat hits, everything changes. The air is thick, a bit too sticky to be called dewy, but the moisture in the air is pleasant, almost creamy, calming. There are birds chirping and a few bees and even fewer voices. There's a stillness so peaceful, so calming that you sink deep into the aromas surrounding you. You've picked sungold tomatoes and herbs, lots of herbs--chocolate mint, lemon thyme, maybe even some sweet basil. And when you're done, right before the rest of the world wakes up and joins your day, you smell your fingertips. The scent of tomato leaf and herbs have permeated your pores. You smile because that scent is the epitome of summer. THIS, my friends, is the scent of our Tall Grass candle. These notes. These feelings. This scene. This beauty. Reposted from @brightblackcandle When I was growing up, Memorial Day was a day to remember lost loved ones. I didn't learn about the connection to the military until way later in life! On today, I'm remembering all of those who are no longer with us, but especially my cousin Chris. I thought this was the perfect day to officially debut his tribute candle KOI.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ KOI is our 2nd Limited Edition Summer Scent, with 50% of sales going to 100 Males to College, a program working with Black and Latino males to encourage college readiness and retention. I'll be talking more about the candle all next week--why the name KOI, why these notes, why this label design, why this initiative to donate to.
