i’m actually sort of upset at Great Tusk.

I enjoy when something is challenging. I enjoy when something is clearly stronger than you are.

What I do not enjoy about the fight against Great Tusk is its placement, and how it compares to the surrounding area.

the pokemon found in that desert are in their mid-20 levels. there’s a rather easy and accessible gym right next to it.

it one-shots everything I have with even ineffective moves.

so naturally, i pay attention to what it uses: which i only notice it using fighting and normal moves. so naturally, a ghost-type would work great! and wouldn’t you know it, there’s a new grass-ghost pokemon that spawns right nearby ! perfect! so i catch one and go to try it out-

edit: also i forgot ! it doesn’t let you flee. like at all. and it gives you no indicator of how strong you should be until you’re already fighting. because it hates you, personally, as a player.

Necrozma and Area Zero

In the days of Ultra Space antiquity was a secret garden in which the fields were bathed in radiant light and encrusted with luminescent crystals. This was the claimed territory which housed Necrozma. Serene creatures and mysterious plants lived there, and the cult-like sect of Ultra Humans would engage with and worship Necrozma there. It is a place of mixed memories for the supreme Ultra Beast, a place that no longer exists. It was decimated in the war that similarly shattered Necrozma. All who once lived there have either gone extinct or left to the whims of the lesser Ultra Beasts.

This place is not Area Zero, however the two have a strikingly similar appearance to one another. The crystals of terastallization are the exact same as those once formed in Necrozma’s Territory, albeit under the influence of different types of energy.

Necrozma is naturally drawn to Area Zero, but it never has the energy to end up there whenever it finds the chance to flee from Ultra Space. In just about every case it has ever escaped the captivity of Megalo Tower, it always ends up in Alola where the rift between Ultra Space and the other world is at its thinnest. Only once has it ever managed to actually enter the Great Crater in all of history, and its stay did not last long to be impactful.

The notorious researcher Heath was one of few humans who once saw Necrozma in the crater, and the Ultra Beast was also categorized among other monsters spotted within. Depictions of Necrozma in research notes published by the researcher have long been lost, as most believed anything told in his account of Area Zero to be fabricated. Similarly, Heath noted scant details of Zygarde existing in the crater at the same time. Heath never came into contact with the Ultra Humans who arrived in Area Zero to retrieve Necrozma.

If given the chance, Necrozma would be driven to return there once again. If there is no threat to stop it, it would take to absorbing the natural energy of the crater and begin casting darkness across the Paldea Region as a whole. Fortunately, it remains only able to extend its reach over Alola, which has been stopped time and time again by the efforts of the Incarnations of the Sun and the Moon as well as the Tapus. Paldea does not have such guardians present to protect it for the threat of Ultra Beasts...
