RED DRAGON (2002)
Tumblr media
The classic Hannibal tale told in an intoxicatingly fascinating way. Based on the book by Thomas Harris and with the same story as Manhunter this movie bests your expectations on all sides. Fantastic acting, killer scenes, and the movie flows extremely well. The film was so good that when I was done watching it I ate it.
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
(Trigger Warning Rape, Suicidal Ideations)
Tumblr media
Edward Norton plays Will Graham, a man who can put himself in the shoes of any killer to solve a crime but it messes with his brain chemistry and we all know what goes on then (boundless depression), so he wants to quit but he gets pulled back in the game by a particularly nasty villain they nicknamed the Tooth Fairy. Our Tooth Fairy is Dolarhyde who works at the video store and meets Ms. Reba McClane who is a cutie patootie but is also blind so she doesn’t see half of the red flags that D has waving half of the time (like his crazy enormous back tattoo).
Tumblr media
There is a scene where they need to get the fan letter from Hannibal's cell and inspect it without him knowing and it is so thrilling. They kept showing Hannibal looking suspiciously around, it was so intense! I was missing the fear that Hannibal would find out from Manhunter. They also circled back around to it later and made it known that Hannibal figured out the trick which makes a lot of sense because the man is a genius. We also have our classic Freddie Lounds cookout.
Tumblr media
The entire date where Dolarhyde takes Ms. McClane to pet the tiger from the zoo is wack. She fondles the tigers balls and D is all excited and then when they get back to his place he watches a home video of the next family he wants to murder/rape and Reba hooks up with him! Wack! She had no idea what he was doing though. Also I’ll never understand why in the morning she just went off and explored the house on her own, not even because she is blind, but just because it seems like a bit of a rude thing to do (and what if she got hurt!). D was all worried but mostly because the Red Dragon inside him was telling him to kill Reba and he didn’t want to!
Tumblr media
Instead he hoofs it to the Brooklyn Museum where he gets some facetime with his favorite painting so what does he do? HE EATS THE DAMN THING. (Neon Demon WHO?) He apparently does this to try and stop the Dragons power over him but I think it was also because he loved the thing so much he had to consume it, much like the child who ate the Maurice Sendak drawing because, “I’ll eat you up, I love you so.” Will finally catches on that the murderer is watching the home movies too and is hot on D’s trail.
Tumblr media
This film had a much more exciting ending than Manhunter because Dolarhyde takes his lady love back to his home, fakes suicide, burns down his house, then goes after Will Grahams family. You think it ends at Dolarhyde’s house but no, the thrills don’t stop there! The movie ends   with Dr. Chilton letting Hannibal know there is a young lady who would like to have a word with him, basically the beginning of The Silence of the Lambs.

Mr. Crocket on Hulu
I really enjoyed this one! It was kind of sad, kind of funny, kind of spooky, and has puppets!
We follow the story of Major and his mom, Summer. They've had some hard times and Summer just needs a break from it all. She finds a video she thinks will give her enough me time relax and entertain Major for a bit.
Tumblr media
She soon finds that it's not at all as it seems and has to start fitting all the pieces of what it truly is together before she loses everything. She enlists the help of strangers turned friends, but never expects the ending she got.
This movie is one of the better ones I've seen this year, honestly. I'm really pleased with it and Hulu is really bringing their A game to this spooky season.
Tumblr media
Would I watch it again? Hell yeah, it was an absolute delight!
Does it need a sequel? I'd be fine without one. You know what they say, it's the things left a mystery that's the scariest, after all. But I'd still see one if a second came out.
Would I recommend it? The fact that I'm taking the time now to right this out is a clear I dictator that I really really really do think you should watch it!

Lisa Frankenstein: A Movie Review
@ThiatheBard's thoughts on the new horror movie Lisa Frankenstein. #horrorreview #lisafrankenstein
Sometimes there are movies that just perfectly encapsulate something. It can be the feeling of terror. The feeling of being an “other.” It can be how seriously weird teenage girls are. How much the world hates that and how lonely it can be.  Lisa Frankenstien somehow took all of those feelings and sewed them into a monster of a movie! Lisa is just a teenage girl. She has her special interests,…

Day 8. All Hallows Eve.
One Halloween night a babysitter comes across an unmarked VHS tape in one of the kids treat bags. The tape contains three short horror stories, two of which center around a creepy mute clown, that most of us will recognize as Art from the Terrifier franchise. This was a hard watch. I knew Terrifier was low budget, and with this being it’s precursor, I wasn’t expecting a lot. But my god, the acting…

HOLD YOUR BREATH (2024)
💁‍♀️Strong Female Lead
Tumblr media
A spooky movie set in the Oklahoma panhandle so you know you are going to see at least one cow. Sarah Paulson has a new family (cause we all know how well she did with her family in Run) and is ready to keep everyone safe (this time). Smart use of sign language for deaf character but also to tell secrets between characters. Child actors exceeded expectations. A rather bleak but still fascinating look at the old times and the horrors that come with it, both fictional and non.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Tumblr media
As someone who has been to the Oklahoma panhandle, I can tell you, all she is is flat and windy. In some ways it is the perfect setting for a horror, in others it isn’t, like how you can see for literally miles but this movie makes up for that with the severe dust storms that limit vision which makes everything feel much spookier. Actually, dust is low-key the villain of this story, that and the Grey Man who is made up of dust (so there). The other villain we won’t discover until later so just keep watching (or in your case, reading). Margaret and her two daughters Rose and Ollie have their home, home on the plains and they are waiting for their father to return from work (like that will ever happen). Dust storms are deadly as ever as it’s the 1930’s and times are hard.
Tumblr media
Rose tells Ollie the story of the Grey Man, a killer who was so evil he disappeared into dust and can be breathed in to make you do his bidding! Ollie is scared but she isn’t the only one who believes in this mystical man, Mama Margaret starts to suspect he might be real after hearing some suspicious rumors. There was also a whole man who broke into their barn and threatened them but that has less to do with the Grey Man and more to do with them just being really unlucky. Seriously, getting accosted by that stranger really messed them up, especially Margaret, who is a full grown adult who believes in this boogeyman figure (and I’m an adult who can’t figure out if he is real or not in this film yet).
Tumblr media
They try to go out but Margaret is seriously not adjusting to anything well, she is freaking out all the time and rarely leaves the house. They finally go to a dance but Margie loses it completely ranting on and on about the Grey Man, Rose tries to back her up but she’s too busy swan diving off of the deep end. When they get home Margaret is worse somehow and Rose figures out that Mama Margie is our other villain but now Marge wants everyone to have a hang out in heaven (yikes). With very clever thinking Rose tricks Margaret into going outside during a dust storm and then cuts her lead rope, stranding her and leaving her to die, saving both her and Ollie. The movie ends with them headed probably East since Rose spoke of wanting to see Philadelphia (Philly, represent) but all we know and care about is that they saw green, green grass finally after all that dust.

Winnie The Pooh Blood and Honey 2
Blood and Honey 2 is once again written and directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield. It was released 1 year after the first movie. Thankfully, we get a lovely 3 minute monologue explaining everything that has happened since we last visited the 100 acre wood. You can skip this if you click here. “Since last we saw Christopher Robin, things haven’t been so good. The 100 acre massacre as it came to be…
