I love that one scarletroses fic where it mentions that isaac is still, like, the primary captain, but sam and jamie fill in for him if he's not playing, which happens not infrequently because they're rotating the squad more. best of both worlds!

YEAH!! Someone told me that’s how real life teams work too (multiple captains because no one is playing the full 90 every single game, and the acting captain has to be on the pitch).

To clarify I would NEVER want Jamie to replace Isaac as captain. Isaac is amazing. I also don’t need Jamie becoming a captain immediately, like I’m not thinking this a s4 plot or anything. But I do think becoming a captain is something that definitely should be in Jamie’s future! So much of Jamie’s arc on the pitch is about learning to become a team player and I see becoming a formalized leader of the team in the form of captain as a really nice culmination of that. Also there were so many indications in s3 of him making for a wonderful leader…when he jumps in to explain total football in a way the boys can understand, the scene with where he’s boasting up each player/giving them high fives after the match, the whole “central cog” thing….. future team captain Jamie Tartt my beloved!!!!

Hidden in Plain Sight

(Scarlet’s POV)

I woke up slowly to someone rubbing my back, making me look out the window, it was still dark out. I looked at whoever was rubbing my back and saw a pair of glowing eyes, one blue, the other pink. Suddenly, a flash of lightning lit up the room, allowing me to see whoever it was. It was a young woman, maybe 5 or 6 years older than myself with white hair, pale skin, and the same birthmark as me, only not on her back, but her forearm. We remained locked in eye contact before the thunder broke our stare, making me turn on the light and sit up, but she was gone. I looked around to see if there was anything out of place, but there was no sign of a break in, making me sit on my bed.

Must of having heard me moving, there was a knock on my door, making me stand up and open it, and I was surprised, it was Dreadwing. “I heard you moving, ScarletRose. Is everything alright?” he asked as I let him in. “I’m confused.” I admitted, making him confused. “What are you confused about?” he asked, making me sit down, and start to explain. “I woke up to someone rubbing my back. I saw her eyes, and when the lightning struck, I saw her.” I explained then looked at Dreadwing who looked shocked, “I think I saw my mother, Dreadwing.” I said before rubbing my arm as Dreadwing sat next to me. “See had the same mark as me, only right here.” I pointed to the middle of my left forearm before I looked down, “I just wish I knew what she looked like as a bot, then I might have an idea of what she would look like as a human.” I admitted, looking at Dreadwing, was still shocked. “The alarm didn’t go off, so no one got in.” he said before looking at me. “Do you believe in spirits?” he asked, making my nod, “You might have seen her spirit in human form.” he explained, this time shocking me.

Dreadwing left and I began to get ready, finishing right as Shockwave began making breakfast. “You’re up early. Any logical reason?” he asked, “I was awoken by an apparition. I swear I saw my mother. Only I don’t know what she actually looks like.” I explained as I sat at the table, placing my bags next to me on the floor. The others all slowly came into the dining room, eating breakfast before Optimus and Megatron took us to school again, but today, it was raining. As I was about to hope we pulled out of the parking spot, I spotted the woman again, but this time, she was with a man who had red hair, blue eyes, and pale skin as well. I stared at them when lightning flashed, and they were gone. I shook it off, but it was a bit unnerving, the fact that I might be seeing both of my parents now. We got to school and we jumped out of the trucks and ran into the school, trying to avoid getting drenched. 15 minutes before classes were about to start, we waited in front of our lockers, when lightning struck again and the power went out, the thunder instant, making Raf hold onto me and Bumblebee as many other students screamed and yelled out of shock. I rubbed his back when I saw the glowing eyes out of the corner of my eye, making me snap my neck towards them, there was the man and woman again. ‘Who are you guys?’ I thought when they suddenly both smiled and disappeared. The lightning and thunder became more constant, making me grab Miko’s hand. The constant sound was starting to scare me for some reason. Teachers and staff came out into the halls and we were surprised when they said school was canceled and that we either had to get our parents here or they would drop us off. The 6 of our phones buzzed and we took them out, we still had service with the power out?! [We are on our way to pick you up, stay put.] Optimus texted, making us show a teacher, who then let us wait by the door, but not to close if something were to happen. About 40 minutes later, Uncle Optimus and Uncle Megatron pulled up, making us dash outside and get into the trucks before closing the doors and driving away. “Primus, What is with the weather today?” Uncle Optimus grumbled quietly, making Jack, Miko, and myself all shrug as we looked out the windows as it poured outside. There was a lot of traffic and we were back at the mansion within another 40 minutes. We all dashed inside and when we were met with the cool air of the mansion, Raf began to shiver. Uncle Ratchet took one look at us and pointed down the hall, “Go get changed before you catch a cold, all of you! I’ll start the fire place.” he said, looking at Optimus and Megatron who held their hands up in surrender.

I quickly changed into warm pajamas and brushed my hair before rushing to Raf’s room to make sure he was alright. Right as I entered after he said “Come In”, he sneezed. Raf was sitting on the ground, in a ball, not moving, while shivering. “Raf! You need to change, techno-organic or not, you need to take care of your health!” I said as I grabbed a towel from his bathroom and began to dry him off. He finally changed into warm clothes, but he was still shivering and his lips were turning blue with a slight neon tint. I wrapped him in a blanket and carried him down the hall, stopping by Miko’s room, but she was already gone. I rushed into the living room where the others spun around when they saw the youngest member in a blanket in my arms. “Uncle Ratchet, his lips were turning blue!” I exclaimed, making him and Ms. June rush over and take Raf from my arms. They took his temperature then got him close to the fire as I sat next to Miko. After 10 minutes, Raf stopped shivering and color returned to his lips, making us all smile before Uncle Optimus turned to me. “Scarlet, may I talk to you for a moment?” he asked quietly, making me nod and get up and follow him to my room.

We sat on my bed and looked at me. “Both Dreadwing and Shockwave have brought something to my attention. I take it, you know what that is, yes?” he asked, making me nod and look down, “It’s not only her now, when we were leaving for school and when the power went out at school, I saw two people. A man and the same woman.” I explained before looking up at my uncle, “Uncle Optimus, am I going crazy?” I asked, making him put his hands on my shoulders and shake his head, “No, no you are not.” he looked at my necklace “Have you ever thoroughly inspected your necklace?” he asked, making me shake my head. “No, I only take it off to shower and swim, other than that, I don’t take it off.” I explained, making him nod then hold out his hand. “May I?” he asked, making me think for a moment before I took off my necklace and gently placed it in his hand. Uncle Optimus inspected it, then smiled, holding it flat in his palm. “Watch.” he said, making me watch his hand and he closed it around the charm then opened it and a screen appeared with many pictures. Out of curiosity, I clicked the first on, it was an all white femme with one blue eye, one pink eye. “She has the same eyes as the woman!” I exclaimed, before Optimus clicked the next, it was a video, the femme looked very weak in it as she held a new born baby cybertronian. {Hello ScarletRose, I am your carrier Whiteout and you know your sire Blaster.} the femme said before a hand came into view and a males voice spoke {Hey Baby Doll.} he said, making me giggle as I wiped away tears forming in my eyes. Whiteout then began to speak again {Sweetspark, I know you are probably wondering why I’m not with you, well … Carrier was sick sweetie, but do not fret. It wasn’t the birthing process that is going to offline me, it’s a condition I have where my spark isn’t in the right place and doesn’t beat properly.} She began to cough, making the camera go haywire for a moment until she calmed down, now Blaster (who is holding the camera) is next to Whiteout, holding her other hand. {My little femme, you will grow up and be strong and while you may not be able to see me, I’ll be watching over you from the well of allsparks. I love you and good luck.} White said before kissing the little baby’s forehead that was in her arms before the video stopped. Uncle Optimus then closed the screen and put the necklace back around my neck. “They are watching over you, little one.” he said, wiping away my tears before he stood up, “Come, let’s join the others for a movie.” he said, making laugh, wiping away the last of my tears and following him back to the living room where Miko and I snuggled together under a blanket as Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children began to play.

Chapter 6 snippet - Recruiting Adderslide

Sandheart crept around to the entrance of the barn. She sniffed the air, scenting just the cat she wanted to find.

Adderslide was sitting on top of a large Twoleg monster, washing a paw. He flicked an ear to acknowledge that Sandheart was there. “Your mate told me I’d find you here.” she mewed. Adderslide looked down at her. “You and Vera have a nice chat?” Sandheart felt awkward, knowing that he knew more than she was letting on. “Always.”

Adderslide lept down, hitting the hay-strewn floor neatly. Without a word, he walked to a nearby bowl of water and lapped at it. Sandheart sat down, shifting for comfort. “That’s a sunny spot you have up there. It seems-” Adderslide lifted his head and cut her off. “You didn’t come here to discuss sunbathing spots.”

A rush of faint guilt washed over Sandheart. “All right, I’ll cut to the chase. I need your help.” Adderslide’s ears pricked up as he looked at her with disbelief. “My help?” Sandheart nodded quickly. “I know. I don’t have any right to-” “You KNEW what I wanted.” he hissed. Sandheart lashed her tail. “Cherryleg volunteered. She came to ME.” Adderslide froze and sighed, not meeting her gaze anymore. “I know.” he mewed as he shuffled his paw across the ground.

“Listen. I get why you didn’t want Cherryleg joining EarthClan. Why you retired.” Sandheart meowed. “I mean…if I had to live with the memory of being manipulated or twisted by Ratface’s visions, I would’ve eaten Deathberries a long time ago.” “Well, you know Vera!” He huffed. “She never would’ve allowed it.” Sandheart let out a purr of amusement.

“So, what is it you need help with?” Adderslide questioned. “The OutClan rogues?” Sandheart shook her head. “No. That chunk of the Moonstone. Rosefang has it.” “Oh, mouse dung..” “And we’ve gotten word from Scarletrose that Ratface has been roaming the Dark Forest.” The large tom growled lowly. “He shows his muzzle as soon as the Moonstone piece is in play. That’s not a coincidence.” Sandheart stepped forward, hoping he could feel her desperation. “That’s why we need you. Your Ratface…expertise. We wouldn’t force you to re-join EarthClan. You’d be an observer.”

Adderslide looked unsure, considering the offer. That is, until the familiar swagger of a Clanmate’s pawsteps reached the barn. His look of consideration turned into a frown. Sandheart looked behind her shoulder and saw her ex-mate Jayclaw. “Hm. Johnny.” Adderslide rumbled. “Jax! Ah, Adderslide..!..Er..” Sandheart cut Jayclaw’s questioning of Kittypet or Warrior names off. “What is it?” Jayclaw set a friendly tone. “Just wanted to see if maybe…” Adderslide stepped past Sandheart, chest held high. “See if you could help close the deal? Yeah, ‘cause that worked so well last time!” Jayclaw’s eyes widened. “Heh, can’t blame me for trying.”

Trying to ignore Jayclaw’s presence, Sandheart turned back to Adderslide. “We need you. Help us capture Ratface. None of the Clans are safe if he gets near that piece.” Adderslide’s hazel gaze flittered between both of the EarthClan cats. “Where’s Cherryleg in all of this?” “OutClan territory.” Sandheart replied assertively. “With Canaryclaw’s team recovering the Moonstone piece.” Adderslide let out a sigh, worried for the safety of his only kit. Jayclaw lightly reached a paw towards him. “She’ll be fine,” he reassured him. “We expect to hear a 'mission accomplished’ from them soon."

The tom looked unconvinced at Jayclaw’s remark. Padding towards the barn door, the trio wordlessly set out to find Ratface and his forces.
