Hello, hello, hello! It's been a long time since I send a snippet from one of my WIPs, so, have something from my fake dating AU. Sorry if it stops abruptly, I'm not satisfied with the end of that scene.

Someone knocked on the door, cutting off whatever he was going to say, dragging both their attention to the door. Cub cleared his throat, fist covering his mouth, when the two pair of eyes landed on him, glancing at the side.

“Cub!” Scar greeted. 

“Hello.”

“Well, c’min, don’t just stand there,” Scar gestured to him.

Cub opened and closed his mouth. “Um, right.”

He approached the desk just as Bdubs stood up and grabbed half the pile of paperwork. He let out a big sigh, turning his head to the both of them, lips pursed. 

“Just confirming,” he pointed at Cub and then Scar, struggling to hold the pile of paper in his arms, “this is completely platonic.”

Scar groaned, sensing his leg bouncing faster now. “Yes, Bdubs, this is platonic.”

It was silent for a moment, making Scar look up to his mayoral assistant. Bdubs frowned and huffed.

“Fine. Have a good evening.”

He slammed the door shut behind him, Scar cringing at the loud and sudden noise. He turned his gaze to Cub, who stood there, face neutral. He adjusted his glasses and sent a raised eyebrow in question. 

Scar chuckled nervously, itching to pet Jellie if only she was here, leg still bouncing. 

“Uh,” he started eloquently.

“Why did Bdubs ask that?” Cub’s position was still, only moved to face Scar. 

“Well,” Scar dragged in order to properly think about his next words. “You know how people often date or get married to look mature?”

At Cub’s silence, Scar took this as a “no ”. 

“HEP wants me to be in a relationship. A romantic one,” Scar frowned at the word, not even sure himself what that entailed. 

Cub looked at the door and back at Scar. “Bdubs is pushing you to be in such relationship,” he concluded.

Scar intertwined his fingers together, eyes glued at the paperwork in front of him. He wondered if he should admit to Cub what the press thought about the whole ordeal. Was it better to keep his friend in the shadows or for him to be mortified?

Scar glanced at his friend. Cub haven’t moved, and Scar realized since when did he hide things from Cub? Especially if it concerned him?

“Yeah. The press thinks we’re a couple, so every time they see me with anyone else than you, they often call me a cheater, which,” Scar winced, twirling a pen in his hand, “has tainted a bad image about me.”

Cub hummed, fidgeting with the edge of his dress shirt. 

“That’s quite unfortunate,” he murmured.

Scar groaned. “I know! ” He ran his fingers through his hair and picked the pen back. “I just don’t understand why people care about that.”

(Oop, it seems convex fans might've influenced me a lot. Accidentally made them the fake dating couple instead of my original, kinda why I don't really like what I wrote to end the scene. Just been struggling with a lot of writer's block, so, I'm just glad I manage to write this)

I’ve not slept and even tho it’s already 8:30am, I will not tough it out and I will in fact go to sleep after spending the night writing a story that I will end up being turned into a lesbian scarian fic, transferring my favorite fics to my kindle (kiribaku and scarian mainly) and then deciding to also put a couple new fics for me to read (all of them being jean/armin), and then reading one of the jearmin fics (which has kept me entertained and then when the sun came up and my ma asked for my help with our dogs, I decided that I should eat after forgetting to eat dinner (this has become my dinner), and now I haven’t even been awake 24 hours, not even 20 yet, but I am sleepy and rambling now and I’ve lost the point of this but also maybe scarian fic will be posted in Like a month if I keep my motivation up (it’s going to be widely out of character but I don’t care because it’s silly to me and I don’t hate what I’m writing for the first time in a while and thinking of it as scarian made me laugh so) okay now I sleep we’ll see if I even tag this I’m

I have officially finished my final essay for the year. I’ve got a couple of exams coming up here next week, but they require significantly less energy from me. This means I can finally focus on writing a little more!

Just as a progress update, here’s my current word count standings on all my WIPs

Ch9 of Be the Death of Me is on track at 4.9k words long currently. If I continue with progress at this rate, it might be done on time for this coming Tuesday.

The first chapter of the sequel to BTDOM is sitting at about 1.7k words. Still quite a bit of progress left to go on that one, not to mention I kinda want to pre-write a little bit so I’m not constantly rushing to get chapters out.

The first chapter of a multi-chapter Scarian superhero/fake dating au is currently basically finished at 14.2k words. I don’t have a prospective posting date for it yet. I’d like to maybe finish my deity series first.

Firstly anything by remrose (@remwrites) is Very Very Good. I especially love their fireworks exploding in the distance series, one of the first few scarian ones i read i think and Definitely plays a part in how I write them. They also have a fake dating your ex au which is ALSO amazing

toil and sweat (losing your breath) by definitelynotshouting (@definitelynotshouting) is one I read a lot it is So So Good. they also have the hunger au which I am...very behind on but what I have read is very good!!!

As for more sfw stuff (though well two of the above are sfw lmao), there's both philosopy and lodestones by setworldspawn. Both unfinished but I absolutely adore them and am very excited for 'em.

Lastly (for now), there's amethystfairy1's (@amethystfairy1) superhero au! Admittedly I've only read the scarian fics in the series (one day when I'm not lazy I'll go through and read it all) but they're so good. The amount of times I've read Snickerdoodle....love that fic so much. Love the series. One day I will not be lazy. Oh and some of these were also some of the first scarian fics I read I think

I think I've finally figured out the Flower Husbands part of my Scarian/Third Life Robin Hood AU

I'm going to make them both nobles

Jimmy comes from a noble family that's fairly close to the king, but not close enough that they're regular members of his court. They probably go to court about once or twice a month, so Jimmy knows everyone there and is particularly close with Prince Grian, his servant Pearl, Martyn and Joel. Especially after his older sister, Lizzie, becomes Prince Grian's lady in waiting.

I think I'm going to say Scott's parents are ambassadors from a different kingdom and so occasionally work with King Mumbo or other members of the Royal family at court but not at all frequently, especially after Ren takes over for Mumbo. They probably only really go when fancy balls or banquets are happening. So Scott does know a few people in court but isn't really close with any of them.

Although, when his parents were in boring ambassador meetings with Mumbo, Scott sneaks down to the local villiage with Xornoth and has befriend Cleo.

I think Scott and Jimmy meet at balls and parties while trying to get air/away from the other guests. For Scott because he is tired of the constant socialising, the masks everyone puts on and the overall fakeness of noble society at these events. For Jimmy, he's just awkward around people and doesn't really know how to make small talk in the way Scott does, plus, he's hiding from Grian who's trying to prank him because that's the Prince's only source of entertainment at these balls.

Scott and Jimmy probably first meet on a balcony overlooking the royal gardens and hit it off pretty quick. They both fall hard and fast for the other.

The only issue it, they're both of marriageable age and neither of their parents would be willing to accept their union. Scott's because he is expected to marry a man from his home country and Jimmy's because they want Jimmy to marry someone higher on the social ladder.

So Scott and Jimmy continue to date in semi-secret. Their close friends and siblings like Grian, Joel, Cleo, Lizzie and Xornoth know. Things happen in the background, notably the start of Good Times and The Resistance. The only impact that has on Jimmy's life is him being able to tease Grian about how he thinks Good Times is attractive (which he denies profusely) and, more notably, Joel betraying Ren and joining The Resistance, meaning his and Lizzie's engagement is 'broken' in official terms (they're still secrerly together but can't risk Lizzie being branded a traitor too).

This is bad for Jimmy as the only reason his parents had been more lax about his lack of engagement was that Lizzie was going to marry one of the King's inner circle. With that 'gone', they betroth him to Fwhip, the son of a wealthy noble who Jimmy has only met once or twice and, while they get on, neither of them particularly want to marry the other.

On Scott's end, his parents arrange a marriage between him and Joey, a noble from their home kingdom who Xornoth meets and the two fall head over heels for eachother.

Scott and Jimmy, thoroughly distressed by everything falling apart around them, confide (read: have a mental breakdown) to their siblings.

Lizzie tells Jimmy that he and Scott could always just run away, and if they're nervous about that, the group that Joel just joined is looking for members and would be happy to take them in. Jimmy actually quite likes this idea and discusses it with Scott who is unsure and goes to Xornoth for advice. Xornoth encourages them to do it and says they're happy to take on the betrothal to Joey because they like eachother, a lot.

So Jimmy and Scott do just that and Scar welcomes them into The Resistance with open arms. Joel is delighted to have someone to make fun of and Grian is happy to finally have someone semi-rational (aka Scott) in The Resistance full time to prevent Scar from constantly making risky plans which almost lead to him being caught.

And they live happily ever after

So I’ll do some, one self promo first tho.

The Curtains Pulled Out of the Wall by myself is a honestly sad multi chapter fic, one chapter away from being completed. It takes place in a small town, a really small town, over the winter, in a one week period. It namely follows Bdubs around, but he spends most of this week with Cleo (who has come back to visit for reasons you need to wait and see). The tensions left over from their past is the main focus of this fic and I’ve had a blast writing it.

a rolling stone gathers no moss by qvill is a fic I find myself checking for new updates every time I open ao3. It’s currently not completed, and I don’t know precisely how to summarize others fics, but I do remember it is a space au with a fair amount of danger and fun.

closer to another shore by remrose if i recall correctly was a super entertaining read despite the fact that I am not a desert duo or scarian enjoyer. I stayed up far too late to finish this fic. I don’t know how to summarize someone else's work, but a fairly dramatic exs to fake dating au is a very fun ride to go on.

I probably have so many more that I enjoyed immensely that I don’t have saved because I read it all in one sitting, but yeah, they aren’t recent ones, but I’ve not had much time to read as of late.

you know, what with both guess the author and the au fest big bang ending recently, there are a LOT of great new fics out there, i bet! also it's been a bit since i've done a lot of hc fic reading, so... hey hermitblr and also adjacent fandoms (trafficblr, for example), got any fic recs?

i'll start with three fics i've been reading recently:

i'm like very behind currently on writing_and_worrying's comms au, but it's an EXCELLENT fic that makes really fun use of the medium! i'm not sure how to describe it other than "the comms logs of an increasingly tangled knot of sci-fi horror". it's great.

speaking of aufest: i read Tangotek Evil Incorporated by onawhimsicot and it's a spectacularly fun fic! in which tango is a very ridiculous cartoon supervillain who has to go rescue his nemesis, jimmy, with help from jimmy's partner, grian. made me laugh out loud a few times. big recommend.

finally, snake's always gonna be one of my favorite hermitcraft writers, and i've been reading Lost On a Starlit Sea lately to prove it again. in which iskall and zedaph are astronauts who go on a mission that appears to be going quickly awry thanks to secrets being kept from them. looks very fun!

however, that's only three fics out of the MANY MANY that have been posted lately - y'all got any fic recs you'd like to share? i'd love to hear them! i'll reblog any lists that get put on here but also i'm hoping there are a lot of suggestions in the notes. (also, feel free to promo yourself or if, say, you were on a big bang team, feel free to promo the author you worked with for that!)

Scarian fake dating au I'm going to start writing later

Scar is a faerie prince, who doesn't want to get married, but is being pressured to by his parents for the sake of the royal family's public image. So, to get out of it, he convinces his knight, Grian, to fake date him to get out of the engagement. The only problem? Grian is in love with Scar. And Scar is in love with Grian but hasn't realised it. Cue two idiots pining after each other, acting like a couple 24/7 but not once realising it might be reciprocated. Cue angst and fluff.

scar makes a crossroads deal with watcher!grian to be his fake date for his vacation with his friends, because he accidentally said he was in a relationship when he definitely wasn’t. now scar has to give grian a crash course on how to act human and they have to convince everybody that they’ve been together for weeks. grian’s lets scar off the hook easy with what he owes, because grian just wants to know how the human world works… and maybe they fall in love along the way. <3

“Jellie, no! Come back here!”

He wasn’t quick enough, she already started to smell the cages. One cat, probably Pearl if Scar remembered how they each looked like, hissed lowly, backing into her cage. Jellie only looked at her before moving on to the next cage. 

Maui was much more curious than Pearl, poking his nose out of the cage, making Jellie hiss. They had a staring contest before Grian clapped his hands, making both of them jump and making Jellie hide under the couch.

“Well, that went well.”

Scar gaped at him.

“What do you mean that went well?”

Grian shrugged. “They didn’t try to bite each other, I count that as a success.”

Scar closed his mouth, speechless. If it weren’t for the cages, he was certain Jellie would’ve fought Maui. He was about to express such thought when Grian took out his phone from his pocket and pointed at his room.

“May I call my girlfriend?”

Scar nodded, not quite understand what was going on anymore.

Grian closed the door and Scar could hear the faint conversation. A hiss brought his attention back to the cats, who were having a standoff, Maui’s muzzle still poking out and Jellie sitting on her hide legs, not looking impress.

“Oh no,” he muttered.

He tried grabbing Jellie, but she slipped under his grasp and hid behind Pearl’s cage, much to the gray cat’s chagrin.

“Jellie, c’mere girl,” he called, putting on his baby voice and extending his hand towards her.

Jellie frowned at the hand, tapped it with her paw (her claws were out, if Scar hadn’t retracted his hand, he would’ve gotten a scratch) and walked to Maui’s cage. Scar let out an offended gasp.

“Oh, you little rapscallion! Ignoring your dear old dad like that.”

Gently, he approached her, trying to get her away from those two cats, who were probably traumatized at this point. Except maybe Maui, he looked like he was having a great time. 

“Now now, Jellie, no use to be difficult. Let’s just leave those two alone—”

Turned out, Jellie was a smart cat. She hid under the couch before he could grab her, cursing underneath his breath. He was on all four, trying to get Jellie who simply sat on all four legs, looking like your typical loaf of bread, as if she was mocking him. Knowing her, he wouldn’t be surprised if she was.

Grian came out of his room, at a very bad timing, and stopped in his tracks when his eyes landed on Scar. 

“What are you doing?”

His accent was more pronounced than usual, catching Scar off-guard. He slowly raised himself on his two legs and gave the blond man a sheepish smile. 

“Nothing,” he said innocently.

Grian crossed his arms, eyebrow raised. 

“Uh-huh. And I’m supposed to believe that?”

“Yes, actually, sometimes I like to lay on all four and just look under the couch.” He pointed at his temple. “It recalibrates my brain.”

Grian let out a frustrated sigh, shaking his head slightly. He raised his phone and shook it slightly. Scar kept his gaze on the device.

“Just called my girlfriend and we agreed to leave the cats at your place until we come back from our vacation.”

Scar perked up at that, bouncing on the ball of his feet and clapping his hands together. Grian looked at the ceiling.

“I’ll come back with their food and another litter box.” He looked around the room, inhaling sharply. “Not sure where you’re gonna put the other litter box—”

“Don’t worry, I’ll figure that part out.”

Grian quirked his eyebrow, but shrugged it off.

“I’ll still show you how to give their food, and don’t worry, they eat from the same bowl no matter how many times I tell them they each have their own bowls.”

Grian joined him, sitting on the ball of his feet, and opened the cages. His cats immediately went to greet him, purring and rubbing their face against his knees. He cooed.

“You guys be good, alright? Daddy will be back in a couple of days.”

Scar had completely forgotten to ask him when he’d be back.

“A couple of days, you say?”

Grian chuckled. “Yeah, we’ll be out for almost ten days.”

“I hope you guys have fun.”

Grian grinned at him. “Oh, we will.”

He said it as if Scar was in on the joke, if it even was a joke, except scar was never good at understanding subtext, so he simply smiled and nodded. 

Maui rubbed his face against Scar’s thigh, making him almost jump out of his spot. He tentatively scratched behind his ears and received loud purrs in return. He smiled softly, petting his ears, cheek, neck, you named it. Grian giggled.

“Aww, he likes you.”

Scar let out a laugh. “For now.”

Grian gently slapped his arm. “Don’t say that, I’m sure every cat loves you.”

Scar laughed at that. “You tell that to Jellie.”

Grian hummed and rose up, letting out a sigh. He turned his gaze to Scar, who was still petting Maui.

“Well, I’ll see you in a bit.”

Scar nodded, still in that euphoria of being chosen by a cat. Grian let out a chuckle, and left the apartment, leaving the residents none the wiser.

It started as sort of a joke between 3rd Lifers, but then news got back to the rest of the Hermits and now the grand opening of the Boatem Shopping District is coming up and Scar and Grian are expected to be there. Hello there dear Bluie. It is I, back with some more of my fake dating AU that I've accidentally turned into crack. I do not control the characters, the characters control me. I also do not know how to talk normally to strangers, so, excuse the lack of secrecy in this conversation.

“Well, hello there.”

They jolted and turned around, slamming the book on their chest as if Scar wanted to steal it—which he didn’t. They squinted at him when they realized who talked to them.

“Oh. It’s you.”

Scar simply grinned. “I didn’t expect to see you here of all places.”

They bit their lower lip, slightly turning their gaze away (not that Scar was looking into their eyes, he was perfectly content to look at their mouth), and looked back at his face. 

“Well,” they paused and gave him a bewildered look. “Wait, you didn’t expect me in the library?”

Scar’s eyes widened. “No, no, I mean, of course I expected you in the library—who wouldn’t want to be in the library—I meant, like, why the boring section of the library?”

They quirked an eyebrow. “I could ask the same.”

Scar gestured with his thumb to the cooking section and presented the cooking book. “Getting something for a visit.”

They hummed. “I’m here for the exact same reason.” They pushed back their shoulders, trying to look taller and confident.

Scar pointed at the book in their hands. “That?”

They inspected the book and gave him a smirk. “Yep.”

“May I ask the occasion?”

Their smirk only grew. “Vacation with my girlfriend.”

Scar held the book with both hands, bouncing on the ball of his feet. “Aww, that’s so cool! I do hope you guys will have fun.”

Their chest puffed. “Why thank you.” They looked at the book, a smile appearing. “We’ve been planning this for a long time, now. You see,” they looked back at him, “we both love travelling, and I’d be a shitty boyfriend if I told her we have to push back our common goal.”

Scar nodded solemnly, knowing absolutely nothing about romantic relationships and how they worked. He drummed his fingers against the cover of his book and smiled at the cat lover. 

And that was when it hit him.

“Oh wait, do you have catsitters?”

He blinked at Scar, mouth agape, and frowned. “What?”

“Catsitters,” Scar repeated, as if it was a known word. The stranger still looked confused. “You know, babysitters but for cats?”

“Oh,” he said, scratching his chin in thought. “I don’t think Amelia called anyone about that.”

“I can do it,” Scar offered without thinking of the consequences. 

And probably suggested a bit too loud when someone close to them shushed them quite loudly. Scar winced, hunching his shoulders and gave that person a sheepish smile. 

“I’ll talk to my girlfriend about it,” the cat lover said, bringing Scar’s attention back to him, “and then I’ll contact you for the final decision.”

Scar grinned. “Sounds good to me.”

The cat lover placed his bag on the ground, opened it and took out a sticky note with a pen. He poked out his tongue as he wrote on it, tore it from the pile, and shoved it to Scar’s chest, sticking it on the cook book. 

Hands on his hips, he let out a sigh. 

“I wrote my contact info. Send something to me before night fall.”

He closed his bag, put it on his shoulders and stood there, both having a starring competition. 

“See ya,” was the last thing he said before he left Scar alone, eyes bored on a wall. 

Scar shook his head and looked at the sticky note. Scar had seen worse handwriting, but it still took him a while to decipher it.

Below it were a phone number and an email address. Scar couldn’t help the smile forming on his face. The stranger at the library had a name.

New AU incoming: Scarian fake Dating AU

Okay, so, the premise of this is Scar is the mayor (classic, I know), and the press and his PR are like "You need to get a partner to keep up public image". Which, Scar is absolutely not interested in. But now the press keeps making speculations of him being with the last person he interacted with and now, people think he's some sort of womanizer.

But while all of this is happening, he decides to destress in the public library (bc I'm a nerd), and keeps finding the same dude in the same section every time he goes there. So, he initiates small talk and learns this man is Grian, an architect fanatic. They learn they share similar interest, like both being cat lovers, and Scar finds himself very comfortable around this Grian guy. So, after learning all the small things about Grian, he just brings him gifts (bc thats his love language i decided <3), like a new cat toy, or bakes scones, and more.

Bdubs, his PR, is like "dude, you really need to find someone asap, you're losing the election poll", and so, reluctantly, Scar asks Grian to fake date him so that he can keep his status as mayor, bc void be damn, he's a good mayor. He makes sure it's Grian's choice, bc he prioritizes the comfort of others before his own benefit, but since this is scarian, Grian accepts. But also, Grian thinks this is the prank of the century and will not back down a challenge.

Anyway, so, i'm not quite sure how it is going to go, because while i absolutely adore scarian, I also adore my alloaro Scar headcanon and I think a fake dating AU would be great to play with that concept. So, at first, I was thinking, they don't live with each other, but they love annoying Bdubs and just being the best of friends (while worshiping their cats, as they should). To answer your question, I think a QPR would be great for the two of them (some hurt/comfort after all of those miscommunications and Grian thinking Scar lead him on). Again, this AU is just sorta floating in my head and I just needed to shout it to the void, or your anon ideas box.

But you are in fact correct, from my understanding (bc i'm ace maybe aro lol), alloaro is that there is sexual attraction but no romantic attraction. This headcanon mostly comes from the fact that for some reason, I just kinda always picture Scar flirting with everyone, even friends, and just being like "woah this person is so hot, I could just [include any sexual activity here]". But, he would love people his way, he loves all of his friends and if he ends up in a friends with benefits situation, that literally wouldn't bother him, as long as he gets to bake them more cookies afterwards, or give suggestions to their build.

Idk, it's just a niche idea and headcanon, and I thought it would be interesting with this headcanon to explore a fake dating dynamic.
