I like a bunch of Voltage Inc guys. They are fantastic men, and their biggest flaw is that they are fictional.

However, every time they say that MC has a part of the guilt when being harassed by other men, it ticks me off. And nearly all of them have scenes like this.

Was it my fault that my ex who was twice my size and older couldn't take no as an answer and respect my boundaries and this caused my hatred towards being touched and sex?

Was is my fault for being harassed as a kid in the public transportation? Or for being spied on in the bathroom of a hospital? Or for being told by a random man in the night train that my place is in his home?

What have girls who were sexually assaulted and raped done wrong?

I do want a man in real life to protect me, be bigger than me, and give the best hugs. Not because I can't take care of myself. But because men take seriously only other men. And I lived for long enough to be afraid of them.

I refuse to think that Voltage Inc men who tell MC that she has to be more aware of her surroundings instead of asking her if she is okay are canon. And I intend to rewrite the scenes where something like this happens. Because it's not MC fault, like it's not mine, or any other victim's.

I have two major predictions for the last two eps of s2 of The Gilded Age.

highly likely but I desperately don’t want it to happen: Bertha and George separate after Bertha finds out that George put his own money into the Met (nbd) and that he lied to her face about doing so (v big deal especially because iirc he lied about it in the SAME SCENE where she said please never conceal anything from me again)

unlikely but I would be delighted: Mrs. Astor, in a desperate bid to win the opera war, promises Bertha that if Bertha lets the Duke go to the opening at the Academy instead of the Met, then Mrs. Astor will marry her daughter off to Larry. but Larry, who has proven headstrong and reckless about love, does not want this. meanwhile Marian, who has already once before attempted to elope, desperately does not want to marry the guy who pressured her via public proposal. Marian and Larry elope.

now, if both these things happen, it could lead to the least likely yet most desired (by me) twist: Bertha and Agnes, united by outrage and loneliness and mutual contempt, have a torrid affair that goes from hatefucking to grudging co-conspirators who respect each other but pretend not to.

Finding out that my 3x great grandfather (some random German immigrant with a mustache named Emil) was best friends with Mexican president Porfirio Diaz was so fcking funny to me. I often talk about how 'Girl With The Pearl Earring' is one of Neri's favourite reads from growing up. There's a theme of in earlier times, woman having hair long and not tied up / covered in some way could be seen as loose and scandalous as showing your ankles.

It resonates with Neri's views about should she ever trust someone enough to call them her partner / lover / whathaveyou though - not only in physically and metaphorically 'letting one's hair down' - what it means to her as an expression of trust ans vulnerability, to be able to show anything beyond this 'professional, hard working, dependence no damsel in distress' kind of image she's constantly projecting and holding onto for herself.

It might seem like such a simple thing to anyone else, taking your hair down, taking clothes off, as bare and casual as the day you were born. For Neri; it's a lifelong offering. No pretense, no elaborate covers on the book. With all the best qualities, all the worst - scrapes, scars, occasional hypocrisies.

It's something you hold dear to protect; and it's something you can't take back once it's been seen.
