I think it’s very interesting how often the title in this form is used in the Schitt’s Creek fandom. In the first Frozen Over I participated in, I think there were 3 or 4 fics titled Merry Christmas, Patrick Brewer. So I collected all of the fics that used this title and read them all. Sunday Sentances

So.... Schitt's Creek won the poll. It's essentially over and I thought about what I could post. The obvious choice would have been "I've Been Searching For You," but anything I post would be spoilery at this point and in the words of David Rose, "I'm not interested in that option."

So...I decided if I'm going to write SC, it needs to be a holiday fic and I came up with an idea.

These sentences are rough so go easy on me. It is related to "Merry Christmas, Johnny Rose," but it will be an AU. I don't know how long it will be just yet. I'm playing with timelines and moving some things around. I'm not saying anymore lol.

Nothing is betaed... just raw sentences likely filled with errors and mistakes.

A bright light startled David out of of an otherwise peaceful dream filled with visions of honey brown eyes and thick arms. The last thing he wanted to wake up to was his father’s shrill voice.

“Kids, outta bed. It’s Christmas Eve and we will be celebrating the holiday.”

“I’m good, thanks, though.” David responded, closing his eyes, hoping to reimagine the mystery man invading his sleepy haze. 

“Hey, can you turn the lights off, please?” Alexis bellowed, not moving her head an inch. 

“No, I refuse to turn the light off on Christmas this year.” 

David knew his father wasn’t going to walk away till he made his point. Christmas was his favorite time of year even if his family resided in hell on earth. David opened his eyes to meet his father’s stare, “Okay, so what exactly is your proposal then?” 

“I say we throw a party, just like the old days.” Johnny explained with a smile brighter than the sun. “Invite some people over, sing some carols.”

David grimaced at the thought. The last thing he wanted was to surround himself with the happy people of Schitt’s Creek on Christmas Eve when all he wanted to do was fall into a deep sleep and not wake up till December 26th. The idea of singing with townees turned his stomach. Why couldn’t he just pop a pill and fall asleep early? Back in New York, that was the simple solution if he wasn’t enjoying himself at one of his parent’s lavish parties. Sometimes they hadn’t even noticed his early departure.

Hello oracle, Do you know why so many SC P/D fics say that Patrick isn’t much of a drinker. Did I miss him saying that in the show? 😊🍺🍷🍻🥂🍹🍸🍾

So... I don’t think I agree that this is a ‘so many’ thing; it’s definitely come up, but not that often. And Patrick definitely drinks in the show — just off the top of my head I can think of the boyfriends convo in Girls’ Night, the barbecue, the Christmas party, his housewarming, the morning after their engagement in Life is a Cabaret, the wedding venue tour in Smoke Signals, and watching the baseball game in Moira Rosé, and it’s quite possible I’m forgetting some.

But. I think there’s a difference between drinking and getting drunk and I know there have been a few fics that mention Patrick not getting drunk often (though again, not that many). And that interpretation/headcanon/whatever you want to call it definitely rings true for me personally, because I definitely see Patrick as someone who likes feeling in control of himself, at least earlier on. But other people might interpret him differently, which is totally fine, that’s the joy of headcanons and everyone is entitled to theirs!

It’s possible that people are springboarding off Patrick’s reaction to Stevie’s case of wine order in Merry Christmas Johnny Rose, or his reaction to David kissing him in Moira Rosé. I would argue that both of those reactions are pretty reasonable in context and nothing to do with an overall view of drinking — I think we can all agree that drinking 12 bottles of wine in a day is A Lot, and David is pretty clearly wasted in the Moira Rosé scene and I’m sure his breath is very... amoxicilliny — but again, everyone is entitled to their headcanons and interpretations!

In Merry Christmas Johnny Rose when he's recounting their past Christmases at the motel... how many does he mention? At least two right? So THAT would have been their third year? (I know there are a ton of examples of inconsistencies and I don't know why we should even bother talking about this at this point haha.) I am totally on board with your speculation and can 100% see that entire dialogue taking place in the show.
