🍓 How did you get into writing fanfiction?

The Second Best Cinematic Universe. There was a really popular Darklina fic called Second Best and the premise was if another Sun Summoner had been discovered after Alina. It spawned so many things other fics that spiralled into the SBCU and I wanted to write my own.

Five (technically four if you count Maribat as a separate fandom on its own). Shadow and Bone, Acotar, Winx Club, Miraculous Ladybug, and Batman

Two years now. My first was in May (?) ‘22 I think. I’ve definitely deleted that doc but it was around that time.

I joined the 1D fandom back in 2011, which was my first foray into the world of fanfiction. Started writing some drabbles and imagines here on Tumblr which then led to proper fics which then led to where I am today

Just three! One Direction, All For the Game, and now ACOTAR

I think I wrote my first proper fanfiction in... 2012? 2013? So I guess technically over a decade, but I did take a break from fandom and fanfiction writing in 2017 before returning in 2021, soooo how are we counting here?

Recently, I've been writing more than reading. I like to spend my evenings after work and dinner writing

🍌 What is one way you've improved as a writer?

Well, if you ask certain people, it's that I now write smut 😂 I never wrote smut before the ACOTAR fandom and even then, I didn't write smut until a good number of fics in.... and now look at me! Writing gargoyles and fae men in the woods 💀

It's absolutely the way I have a bad tendency to repeat phrases and words over and over again across all my fics

Basically everything I researched for Falling For Your Fools Gold. I went really deep into pirate facts and uncovered so many weird but interesting things 🍋🍋🍋

I mean 10/10 I love any comment that my fics receive! But I do have a special place for people losing their minds or the ones calling Cassian an idiot (affectionately)

Probably canon-verse? I think my overall issues with canon and the mess that is canon makes it hard sometimes to fit stories and characters within those confines while still achieving what I want from the story/characters

Basic plot bundle for Dark Side of the Moon

Characters:

-Romantic Leads are Nathaniel and Alden. Nathaniel is a werewolf* and works for the groundskeeper of Sleeping Bear Campgrounds. He left his family due to being unwilling to suppress his wolf. Alden is a customer support worker for a local tech store; he's been feeling particularly lonely lately since his sister and her wife started dating his best friend, leaving him feeling like an extra wheel.

*Werewolf in the SBCU is a catchall term for anyone who can transform into a wolf for whatever reason. In Nathaniel's case, his family tosses up wolf shapeshifters sometimes. This is never explained and doesn't need to be. It also only happens to the men in the family, but more on that in a minute.

-Lenore is Nathaniel's best friend and the groundskeeper at the campgrounds; Tamsin and Nelly are Alden's sister and her wife, and Dakota is their boyfriend/Alden's best friend. The four of them make up the peanut gallery of the plot.

-Oliver is a cousin of Nathaniel's and another werewolf. Like Nathaniel, Oliver doesn't want to give up his wolf, in part because of the gender affirmation that comes from being a wolf in a family where only the men can turn into wolves. Oliver ran away rather than suppress his wolf, and has been living in the forest, trying to figure out how to be a wolf and a man with no one to teach him.

Plot events:

-There are currently rumours of a werewolf at the campgrounds, but Alden et al ignore Lenore's warnings and go camping anyway. Nathaniel and Alden meet cute and flirt up a storm on their way to the campsite.

-The first night, a big white wolf-dog appears at the campsite and spends the evening protecting them, prowling the edges of the campsite and warning away any intrusion, then leaves before morning.

-Alden goes back to the groundskeeper's cabin to ask about the dog, assuming it must belong to someone. After getting blown off by Lenore, he goes looking for Nathaniel, and finds him in the middle of a heated phone call. Alden doesn't hear the entire conversation, but he hears Nathaniel insist that he's "not going home to live in a closet", that if "Mother can't handle my wolf then she can't handle me", and just general comments to that regard that could be easily misinterpreted, which they are. (There is a long stretch here where Alden and Nathaniel hang out.)

-While Alden is doing that, the rest of his party go fishing, and while they're fishing a teenager (about seventeen or eighteen) comes up and steals their fish. He looks half-starved and like he's been in the woods awhile so they're more worried about him than their fish, but when they go looking for him, a wolf-dog bursts out of the woods and growls at them until they back off and retreat back to their campsite.

-On regrouping later with Alden, they conclude that it was probably territorial since the wolf didn't chase them, but that the groundskeeper should be alerted, and also should know about the starving teenager apparently living in the woods. It's late, so they resolve to go back in the morning.

-That night, the white wolf-dog appears again and repeats his previous actions of the night before.

-The next morning the group go down to the cabin to tell Lenore and Nathaniel about both incidents; Nathaniel seems very interested and goes back with them to investigate. When they get back, their campsite has been ransacked, with both human and wolf prints in the dirt.

This is the end of act 1. No idea what happens in act 2.
