Dalam al matsurat saya sering terpaku pada bacaan di atas, karena baru tau ternyata itu bacaan sayyidul istighfar (penghulunya istighfar).

Dan hikmahnya sangat luar biasa, semoga kita selalu istiqomah dalam membaca bacaan itu dan ampuni segala dosa kita

Dzikir sayyidul istighfar disebutkan dalam hadis dari Syaddad bin Aus Radhiyallahu anhu, dimana Nabi Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam bersabda, “Sesungguhnya Sayidul Istighfâr (pemimpin istighfar) adalah seseorang hamba mengucapkan, اَللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّيْ ، لَا إِلٰـهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِيْ وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ، وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ ، أَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ ، أَبُوْءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمتِكَ عَلَيَّ ، وَأَبُوْءُ بِذَنْبِيْ فَاغْفِرْ لِيْ ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ ALLAHUMMA ANTA RABBII LÂ ILÂHA ILLÂ ANTA KHALAQTANII WA ANA ‘ABDUKA WA ANA ‘ALA ‘AHDIKA WA WA’DIKA MASTATHA’TU A’ÛDZU BIKA MIN SYARRI MÂ SHANA’TU ABÛ`U LAKA BINI’MATIKA ‘ALAYYA WA ABÛ`U BIDZANBII FAGHFIRLÎ FA INNAHU LÂ YAGHFIRU ADZ DZUNÛBA ILLÂ ANTA (Ya Allâh, Engkau adalah Rabbku, tidak ada Ilah yang berhak diibadahi dengan benar selain Engkau. Faedah dari bacaan ini adalah sebagaimana yang Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam sabdakan dari lanjutan hadits di atas,

وَمَنْ قَالَهَا مِنَ النَّهَارِ مُوقِنًا بِهَا ، فَمَاتَ مِنْ يَوْمِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُمْسِىَ ، فَهُوَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ، وَمَن�� قَالَهَا مِنَ اللَّيْلِ وَهْوَ مُوقِنٌ بِهَا ، فَمَاتَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصْبِحَ ، فَهْوَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ»

.

“Barangsiapa mengucapkannya pada siang hari dan meyakininya, lalu dia mati pada hari itu sebelum waktu sore, maka dia termasuk penghuni surga. Dan barangsiapa mengucapkannya pada malam hari dalam keadaan meyakininya, lalu dia mati sebelum waktu pagi, maka dia termasuk penghuni surga

🐲 SAYYIDUL ISTIGHFAR / UMMUL ISTIGHFAR : The Chief Prayer of Seeking Forgiveness 🐲

🔰Reported on the authority of Shaddad ibn Aus (RA), Rasulullah (PBUH) said, The best supplication for seeking forgiveness–"Sayyidul Istighfar" is :

“Allaahumma anta rabbii laa ilaaha illaa anta khalaqtanii wa-anaa ‘abduka, wa-anaa ‘alaa ‘ahdika wawa’dika mas-tatho’tu. A’uudzubika min syarri maa shona’tu. abuu-u laka bini’matika ‘alayya wa abuu-u bizambii, faghfirlii, fa-innahuu laa yaghfiruz-zunuuba illaa anta.”

(O Allah, You are my Lord, none has the right to be worshiped except You; You created me and I am Your servant, and I abide to Your covenant and promise [to honor it] as best as I can. I take refuge in You from the evil of which I committed. I acknowledge Your favor upon me and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for verily none can forgive sins except You).

Then Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) continued, “If somebody recites this during the day with firm faith in it and dies on the same day before the sunset, he will be among the people of Paradise and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it and dies before sunrise he will be among the people of Paradise.” – Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 75, Number 318

🔰 One of the 99 Names of Allah is Al-Ghaffaar (الْغَفَّارُ) – The Great Forgiver The Forgiver, the Oft-Forgiving, the One who forgives the sins of His servants from time to time.

🔰There are numerous verses in the Quran & Hadits about the importance of asking for forgiveness of Allah SWT. Here are few of them:

And (commanding you): “Seek the forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him in repentance, that He may grant you good enjoyment, for a term appointed, and bestow His abounding grace to every owner of grace (i.e. the one who helps and serves needy and deserving, physically and with his wealth, and even with good words). But if you turn away, then I fear for you the torment of a Great Day (the Day of Resurrection). (QS.Hud [11]:3)

Then, verily! Your Lord for those who do evil (commit sins and are disobedient to Allah) in ignorance and afterward repent and do righteous deeds, verily, your Lord thereafter, (to such) is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (QS.An-Nahl [16]:119)

Your Lord knows best what is in your inner-selves. If you are righteous, then, verily, He is Ever Most Forgiving to those who turn unto Him again and again in obedience, and in repentance. (QS.Al-Isra [17]:25)

And verily, I am indeed Forgiving to him who repents, believes (in My Oneness, and associates none in worship with Me) and does righteous good deeds, and then remains constant in doing them, (till his death). (QS.Tha-Ha [20]:82)

Ibn Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) saying, “Allah, the Exalted, has said: ‘O son of Adam! I shall go on forgiving you so long as you pray to Me and aspire for My forgiveness whatever may be your sins. O son of Adam! I do not care even if your sins should pile up to the sky and should you beg pardon of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam! If you come to Me with an earthful of sins and meet Me, not associating anything with Me in worship, I will certainly grant you as much pardon as will fill the earth.’” – At-Tirmidhi

🔰The Importance and Advantages of seeking Allah’s forgiveness (istighfar) and repent (tawbah) are:

1. He loves those who purify themselves.

Truly, Allah loves those who repent, and He loves those who cleanse themselves. [QS.Al-Baqarah 2:222]

2. We need to purify & cleanse our heart from dark spot.

We need istighfar to constantly purify and cleanse our heart. We are not born in sin, but we are born in weakness.

We are prone to fall prey to the many temptations that are part of our test in this life. And when we do fall and commit a sin, it produces a dark spot in our heart.

We can see this gradual darkness of the heart as people advance in their sinful behavior. In the beginning they have a lot of inhibitions. They commit the wrong hesitatingly and feel bad about it.If they donot turn back, they get used to it, so it just feels normal. Then a stage comes when vice becomes virtue and virtue vice. They defend and advocate evil and shun good.

3. He is the One and Only who can forgive us and save us from the bad consequences of our wrongdoings.

We seek His forgiveness, knowing that He alone has knowledge about all our deeds and thoughts and He alone can forgive us and save us from the consequences of our actions.

4. He will point out a way out every distress, and a relief from every anxiety, and will provide sustenance (rizq)

Ibn ‘Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “If anyone constantly seeks pardon from Allah, Allah will appoint for him a way out of every distress and a relief from every anxiety, and will provide sustenance for him from where he expects not.” – Abu Dawud

5. Enhancing that consciousness of Allah and strengthening our relationship with Him.

We turn to no one except Allah in repentance. We confess our deepest errors, shortcomings, failures, and sins to Him and Him alone.

Tawbah (repentance) and Istighfar (seeking forgiveness from Allah) are among the most meritorious acts of virtue for the believers.

Tawbah means feeling remorse for our actions or omissions. Istighfar means expressing that remorse in words and begging Allah for forgiveness.

The act for which we perform tawbah and istighfar is not necessarily a sin, or an act of disobedience to Allah; it also includes our shortcomings.

As we realize Allah’s immense favors to us, all of our thankfulness and devotion clearly appears to be inadequate. As we realize the grandeur of Allah, Most High, our acts of worship and obedience clearly are seen to be insufficient. The higher a person is on the scale of taqwa, piety and God consciousness, the greater is this sense of inadequacy. Consequently the greater is his/her practice of istighfar.

That is why all the Prophets (as) preached and practiced tawbah and istighfar.

We do not have to invent any sins, inherited or personal, to explain their repentance. In fact all the prophets were free of sin, as Allah appointed them as role models for humanity and Allah did not send defective role models.

🔰Ibn ‘Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Prophet (PBUH) said, “O women folk! You should give charity and be diligent in seeking Allah’s forgiveness because I have seen (on the Night of the Ascension to the highest heaven) that the most of dwellers of the Hell are women.“

A woman amongst them said: “Why is it that the majority of the dwellers of Hell are women?”

The Prophet (PBUH) replied, “You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. In spite of your lacking in wisdom and failing in religion, you are depriving the wisest of men of their intelligence.”

Upon this the woman asked: “What is the deficiency in our wisdom and in our religion?”

He (PBUH) replied, “Your lack of wisdom can be well judged from the fact that the evidence of two women is equal to that one man. You do not offer Salat (prayer) for some days and you do not fast (the whole of Ramadan) sometimes, it is a deficiency in religion.”

Sayyidul Istighfar: The Chief Prayer of Seeking Forgiveness

Reported on the authority of Shaddad ibn Aus (RA), Rasulullah (PBUH) said, The best supplication for seeking forgiveness–“Sayyidul Istighfar” is :

اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لّا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَاعَبْدُكَ، وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتَ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتَ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، وَأَبُوءُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِر لِي فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ

Allaahumma anta rabbii laa ilaaha illaa anta; O Allah, You are my Lord, none has the right to be worshiped except You;

khalaqtanii wa-anaa ‘abduka; You created me and I am Your servant;

wa-anaa ‘alaa ‘ahdika wawa’dika mas-tatho’tu; and I abide to Your covenant and promise (to honor it) as best as I can;

A’uudzubika min syarri maa shona’tu; I take refuge in You from the evil of which I committed;

abuu-u laka bini’matika ‘alayya; I acknowledge Your favor upon me;

wa abuu-u bizambii, faghfirlii; and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me;

fa-innahuu laa yaghfiruz-zunuuba illaa anta. for verily none can forgive sins except You.

Then Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) continued, “If somebody recites this during the day with firm faith in it and dies on the same day before the sunset, he will be among the people of Paradise and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it and dies before sunrise he will be among the people of Paradise.” – Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 75, Number 318

One of the 99 Names of Allah isAl-Ghaffaar (الْغَفَّارُ) – The Great Forgiver The Forgiver, the Oft-Forgiving, the One who forgives the sins of His servants from time to time.

There are numerous verses in the Quran & Hadits about the importance of asking for forgiveness of Allah SWT. Here are few of them: And (commanding you): “Seek the forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him in repentance, that He may grant you good enjoyment, for a term appointed, and bestow His abounding grace to every owner of grace (i.e. the one who helps and serves needy and deserving, physically and with his wealth, and even with good words). But if you turn away, then I fear for you the torment of a Great Day (the Day of Resurrection). [QS.Hud 11:3]

Then, verily! Your Lord for those who do evil (commit sins and are disobedient to Allah) in ignorance and afterward repent and do righteous deeds, verily, your Lord thereafter, (to such) is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. [QS.An-Nahl 16:119]

Your Lord knows best what is in your inner-selves. If you are righteous, then, verily, He is Ever Most Forgiving to those who turn unto Him again and again in obedience, and in repentance. [QS.Al-Isra 17:25]

And verily, I am indeed Forgiving to him who repents, believes (in My Oneness, and associates none in worship with Me) and does righteous good deeds, and then remains constant in doing them, (till his death). [QS.Tha-Ha 20:82]

I shall go on forgiving you so long as you pray to Me and aspire for My forgiveness whatever may be your sins. O son of Adam! I do not care even if your sins should pile up to the sky and should you beg pardon of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam! If you come to Me with an earthful of sins and meet Me, not associating anything with Me in worship, I will certainly grant you as much pardon as will fill the earth.’” – At-Tirmidhi

The Importance and Advantages of seeking Allah’s forgiveness (istighfar) and repent (tawbah) are:

1. He loves those who purify themselves.

Truly, Allah loves those who repent, and He loves those who cleanse themselves. [QS.Al-Baqarah 2:222]
