It was truly an honor to see our Saugus Police Department support miss Ketlyn Alemeida Souza and her mother Raquel Gomes with a $5,000 check on behalf of Cops for Kids with Cancer. Ketlyn is courageously battling Alveolar Rhabdomysarcoma and we are proud to stand beside her and offer support and encouragement during this difficult time. // I would also like to thank Cops for Kids with Cancer for their generosity. // #saugus #saugusma #sauguspolice #police #pd #boston #bostonma #copsforkidswithcancer #cancer #fightcancer #beatcancer #alveolarrhabdomyosarcoma #community #support (at Saugus Fire Dept.)

I am proud to announce the appointment of two new officers at the Saugus Police Department: Officers Alison Cooper and Jean Carlos Giraldo. The officers were sworn into their new roles on March 21st at Saugus Town Hall, with members of the department, Town Hall staff, family, and friends in attendance to show their support. These officers’ extensive training and commitment to public safety will be a great asset to the Town, and I wish them the best success in their new roles. // #saugus #saugusma #police #policedept #policeofficer #sauguspolice #spd #publicsafety #swearingin #appointment (at Saugus Town Hall) https://www.instagram.com/p/BwAlAY0FOk2/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=xli1tccvnqcd

It is a great honor for the Horses and Heroes Foundation to name a police horse after our own Saugus Police Lieutenant Detective David Gecoya. Lt. Det. Gecoya's actions have exemplified extreme bravery and we in the Town of Saugus are lucky to have him as a member of our public safety department, working hard to keep our residents safe every day. #saugus #saugusma #sauguspolice #horsesforheroes #horsesandheroes (at Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site)

Police Chief Domenic DiMella and I are pleased to announce that the Saugus Police Department has been awarded a $3,375 grant by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Office of Grants and Research -Highway Safety Division to improve traffic safety on local roads for pedestrians and bicyclists.
This funding will allow the Saugus Police Department to provide additional overtime enforcement to increase compliance with traffic laws by all road users. A portion of the grant will also be used to invest in bicycle helmets, and equipment to enhance the visibility of crosswalks.
I am proud of Chief DiMella and the Police Department for recognizing the importance of pedestrian and bicyclist safety, and pursuing this important grant initiative. This funding will continue to prioritize the safety and security of our residents and visitors of Saugus.
Saugus is one of 84 communities across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to receive funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for pedestrian and bicyclist safety.
With nearly 6,000 pedestrians killed in 2016 across the country, pedestrians now account for a larger proportion of traffic fatalities than they have in the past 33 years. In Massachusetts, that rate is even higher, with pedestrians representing more than 20% of all traffic fatalities. Bicyclists are dying at higher rates nationally as well – the 840 killed in traffic crashes in 2016 are the most since 1991.
