Like any other normal teenage girl, you got excited every time Taylor Swift dropped an album, announced an album, or did anything remotely hinting at herself and her work. Even if it was a far stretch, you were on social media like the rest ready to prove or debunk theories. Tonight, she’s releasing her second re-recording, Red (Taylor’s Version) You were a fan. Even though she and your father dated for like a month and now they never speak to each other and the chances of you seeing The Eras Tour ever again are slim to none, you admired her so much.

Your dad had said goodnight and sent you to bed more than an hour ago. You planned to go against his wishes a little bit and stay up and listen to the album. It was only one time, and it was for the sake of music, so if you got caught he wouldn't be too upset, right? …Right?

The plan was all fine until you got hungry. The kitchen was connected to the living room which is where your father spent most of his late nights, doing work, watching TV, sleeping, whatever. It was quiet so you assumed that he had already gone upstairs for the night or was fast asleep on the couch. It all gave you the confidence to believe that you could sneak into the pantry and not be seen. You were wrong, however.

“Go to bed.”

He was there. Wide awake. Just quietly scrolling through his phone.

You pouted. “C’mon. It comes out in like an hour.”

He never took his eyes off his phone. “And you have to wake up at 6 am for school tomorrow.”

“And I’m still gonna go! One night of staying up and listening to an album isn’t going to change my perfect grades or 4.0 GPA.”

“I said no.” His voice grew a little more stern.

Your begging was now at a full 10. “This is a big deal, Dad! Just because you can’t listen to Taylor anymore doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t!”

“What I say goes, you know that.”

You smirked. “Oh, so it was fine when it was your album?” He hated it when you were a smart-ass. Mainly because you reminded him too much of himself when you acted that way.

He rolled his eyes and sighed. “Go to bed.”

“Ughhhhh.” You slumped up the stairs.

“I love you, baby.”

“And I love your ex!”

Almost 2 hours later, Matty got tired of the things he saw on Instagram, and the yawns he kept giving let him know that it was time for bed. As he walked upstairs he heard the faintest sound

At first, he thought it was because of something he had done. He thought that maybe the attitude he showed earlier was too much, but on the other hand, he knew his girl was too tough for that to break her. He opened the door and saw your frame curled on the bed. Your face was buried in your pillow but it was evident by the bits that were showing that your face was red and littered with tears. You heard him open the door and walk to you, but you didn't move.

“What’s happened.” He asked quietly as he slipped in into the other side and pulled you close.

“Just shut up. I just need you.” You were harsh but he knew your tone held no true anger or hurt.

“Okay. Okay, I’m here. I’m right here.” He held you as you cried into his chest. You were sobbing. You tried to catch your breath between the hiccups and cries, but it took minutes for you to fully calm down. To you, those minutes felt like hours, and as time went on Matty became increasingly worried about the severity of the situation.

You took one last big inhale, then spoke. “He cheated on me”

“What?”

“He cheated on me…then dumped me when I found out.”

“When?! When did this happen?”

“A little less than a week ago.” He sighed, He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. You and your boyfriend had been dating for nearly 2 years. From the way it looked to the outside world, you two were as happy as could be. Matty always had his doubts but he chalked it up to the typical dad senses overreacting, especially because you always looked so happy and you hadn't been that way in a long time. “I should’ve broken it off long ago.” You hiccuped and cried through your next words. “He ignores me. Everything I say. Everything I do. It's like I’m talking to a brink wall half of the time. I tell him I’ve had enough and he apologizes and makes me feel great like I’m the only one who matters, and then he makes the same fucking mistakes, over and over and over again. He likes the idea of a relationship but doesn't want to put in the work of having one. At least when it comes to me…”

Matty didn't know what to say. It was a complete shock to him. “He doesn’t know what he’s missing-”

“Yes, he does. He just doesn't care.”

“How did this happen, if this happened a bit ago then why are you crying just now?”

You hid your face again. He rubbed your back. “You’re gonna laugh…”

“I won't laugh-”

“You’re gonna be mad,” You said, looking up.

He smiled. “I won't. Promise.” He said, winking.

You sighed and buried your head back into him. “I was listening to the 10-minute version of All Too Well.”

“God, bubs.”

You sat up and looked at him. “Let me live! It was too real. I related too much. I’m serious.”

He reached his arms back up, guiding you to come back to him. “I know. Im sorry.”

You pouted as he placed a kiss on the top of your head. “Do you ever cry to my songs?”

“Only of embarrassment.”

what are your thoughts on the recent developments ie the fact that Travis went on stage his over the top clap at me look when he exits the concert with Taylor the surprise songs including Question and cowboy like me and imgonnagetuback even when Travis is there…

Regarding recent developments, I do believe context matters. The specific part of the TTPD set that he was invited on stage for is telling, and frankly, I'm shocked so many people took it as romantic. That is the Female Rage set, lest we forget! This post reminded me a bit of SATVB and the screens-within-screens theme.

I think Taylor is still in the "people often greatly underestimate how much I will inconvenience myself to prove a point" phase of this "relationship". Last night's surprise songs, for instance - what a spectacle!

The streamer I tuned into was full-on hyperventilating over this song combination, meanwhile, I'd be willing to bet that the "recipient" of this mash-up had little-to-no familiarity with the song that fans have hyped up to be about him.

What I will say is that it sure is convenient that any time she sings Matty-coded songs, everyone is "delusional" for reading into them, but the moment she sings Mary's Song, suddenly surprise songs have ultimate meaning and significance again.

Did you happen to go on Twitter at all following the mash-up? Absolutely flabbergasted by all of her biggest fan pages turning into shipping pages. I know I'm a new Taylor fan, but as you can probably tell, I have spent a lot of time archiving quotes and interviews from Taylor, and everything happening right now seems so antithetical to her character or how she's built her career.

That said - I very much believe that it feels like she's playing Barbies with the fans one last time before she breaks their favorite toy. Right now she's playing puppeteer.

Don't know why i'm writing this, maybe it could be cathartic, maybe it could help me find some other friends here.

It's been ages since I last posted on this platform, and it was about a completely different subject.

Nothing wrong with that, of course. but my tumblr's nickname is based on that very person, so it's strange to change all of a sudden.

I've always felt a particular connection with music. It helped me through a lot: when I was being bullied at school for my weight, when nobody wanted me, when everything at university seemed to be falling apart.

But i've always been a little bit reluctant to try new singers and bands. That's when my friends came to stop this habit of mine.

They sent me photos of this fella right there in these photos, and I was like "ok, he's hot but does he make good music?". It turned out that yes, he makes good music. But I was only listening to 2 or 3 songs, so I didn't really had that much to judge.

But my friends, who are big fans of The 1975, practically forced me to buy a ticket to go to the SATVB Tour in Milan. It would have been an occasion for us to reunite (I live in Turin, they live in Milan and we don't see each other that often now that we work). So we bought tickets like a year ago and almost forgot about it.

The day of the concert was coming and honestly, I was feeling a little bit under the weather because of some things that were happening in my life last month. I had to drive for an hour and half (back and forth) to go there and I was alone in the car. Tiredness, money, time: everything was worrying me.

But I went anyway. Just to see my precious friends.

I started to study the setlist some days before the concert, just to shout some other lyrics rather than the only ones I knew. I was stunned by the verses, the words they used, the voice Matty has and the melodies the band uses in their songs. I went to the concert not knowing what to expect, maybe one of the usual concert I went to.

But boy, was I wrong.

Singing those song was liberating. I took some videos and then I tried to enjoy the rest of the show. Sometimes I was just admiring the stage, admiring Matty and how well he performes and owns the scene. My friends was like: "are you still on this Earth?". That was the right question, because I felt like I was being moved to another dimension where just the band and me were there. Nobody else existed.

I was unthinkingly worshipping Matty.

In the next days, I also recouped all the interviews, claiming that it was just to "practice my listening skills with British accent" - I work in an English private school and I've studied foreing languages at university. But it wasn't just that, ofc.

That's how my "obsession" started lol

All this wall of text to say that I need to make friends here. Because I noticed a lot of wonderful users that 1) write ff so beautifully 2) are so damn funny 3) have my same interests 4) helped me with my obsession lol

Since I'm new to this fanclub, I would like to chat with somebody who could explain me all the inside jokes or all the memes that sometimes I find on IG. And why not, practice my English as well.

I finally did it!!! I got my box tattoo in honour of one of my all time favourite bands @the1975music 🤍

hearing them play medicine in seattle for the last night of the NA leg of satvb was the push I needed to get my box tattoo (the lines aren’t perfect but it might be bc of the second skin)

but regardless, a week later, I was able to get a tattoo I’ve been waiting to get for almost a decade now

My first impression... anyone who is familiar with My Chemical Romance knows their first album "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love" and their last "Danger Days"... I get that vibe from this setlist with a mixture of "The Used" for good measure. So long and short of it - this is as emo as the 1975 can get without being Drive Like I Do.

And I am here for it.

Just look at the songs themselves.

The song is one that talks about humanity. How the media makes you believe in happiness and growing up liking who you are, only it doesn't happen. It touches on identity & aging as well.

Political in nature. It's about school shootings and the toxic masculinity of society today.

A love song. Matty wanted a love song that was sincere and earnest.

Talks about Matty's relationship with fame and how he pleas with society for a safer world without the fear of gun violence.

Do I really need to cover this one? It's THE song.

This song covers mental issues and how their looking for their lost brain (sanity). It covers dodging fans and what its like trying to cope with fame. This song has always made me think that it would be the result if Taylor's Wonderland & I Know Places had a baby.

Another regular. It's about his heroin addiction.

Matty says that death has essentially become a big meme and that death is now, essentially a mood. It sums up life in the online age.

Another regular. Jealousy, ownership over the body of a former lover (emotional ownership. not actual) and dealing with seeing a former lover with someone else. Anyone who knows MAYLORE knows this songs history.

Like About You... i never see this leaving the set list. This song is better live by far then the recording could ever dream of. It's a social anthem much like Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" before you know... FOB did a cover of it.

Teenager angst over sex.

The new closing song? Unhinged Matty and when I truly feel like I am watching Gerard Way - and if anyone takes that as an insult come fight me because its not. Another social anthem.

As I said - this setlist comes off as very much the context and themes you'd see at an emo / pop-punk show. Very much reminds me of The Used and MCR.

Does this set list make me think he's sad? No. Not at all. Angry? Hell yes. The themes of dealing with fame and how fans are assholes and society sucking as a whole... its an interesting statement and I am completely here for it.

Honestly - unpopular opinion but Danger Days is one of my all time favourite albums and this screams that to me. Especially People. Matty has said that the band is an influence and a dream collaboration so...

Gerard... I am looking at you. Please PLEASE do this.

I also think this is the truest side of who Matty is and what he has always stood for and against. They said that SATVB was how Matty is NOW and I honestly believe the set list reflects that.

As for no Robbers... maybe he just wanted to give fans a breather from being afraid he will kiss someone or to just flat out get rid of the speculation on whether or not he will.

I havent seen the whole show yet but snippets I did see... he was very happy and high energy. Very pre-May happy Matty.

I'll find more videos and see if that changes but as of right now.. yeah.

I would like to discuss something fun, like is there a SATVB gig you’re most excited for and why? Also, sorry if you’ve already said but how many were you able to snag tickets for?

I haven't said and I won't say because I'm actually half-ashamed at how many I got 😂

I'm really excited about the last two gigs in Germany because End Of Tour is always a weird vibe (as exemplified by Ireland this year) and anything can happen.

I'm also very excited about seeing them in my home country for the first time ever, I have no idea how Matty will behave in Italy but fuck me I want to find out 😂

I would be excited about Manchester if I had managed to snag tickets for that one, because of the homecoming vibes and because I simply love Manchester, but it is looking like a Herculean task and will likely require a bit more patience than everything else has.

one shot inspired by the doron langberg painting “lovers”: self-titled era; definitely-not-in-a-relationship stage george & matty decide to have an evening together with the lights on. george is nervous. matty thinks there’s no one more perfect. 

written in a magazine: post-satvb/on hiatus; a music magazine sends someone to write a profile about matty. he reads the article and starts to see himself, his life with george, through the understanding of the public for the first time. yes, now he's home from tour, but why hasn't anyone understood that with George, he's never felt like he's actually left...

✤ into spiral patterns of you (my love) (1/5): hiatus/married with kids era; george falls into a sudden deep depressive episode for the first time in over ten years. matty wants to be able to keep the entire house and family routine afloat without a single hiccup, but it's very difficult when he's so distracted. so worried...

belief in everything you're saying: self-titled era; twist on the lyrics/melancholy of Somebody Else; george overhears matty's last ex ask him if it's true he's really found somebody else so soon after their breakup. starts him thinking back to the moments that got them together. the moment he became that somebody else he keeps hearing so much about...

looked after & loved: ~1k words; vague eraly mfc era; dating matty & george. it's the middle of the night. they're on a tour bus (again) and matty can't sleep. he can hear (almost) everyone else sleeping. he wishes he could be near george. hear only george.

the way you know me: [E] post-bfiafl/atvb era; married George & Matty. matty returns home from a horribly unproductive day helping out in the studio. he feels exhausted, overstimulated, and disconnected from home—from george. he asks george, silently and then with words, to remind him of what it feels like to be home, to be loved, to be taken care of.

arriving home 04:17:43: ~590 words; george arriving home from a trip away and being greeted at the door, despite the early hour.

Where We Are Together: self titled—bfiafl era; four moments of Matty and George's developing relationship—from self-titled to bfiafl—that all center around the safety, consistency, and reliability of being in George's car together; that feeling of "you’re in a car with a beautiful boy..." (but this time he always loves you back)

do you need me? (you're all i need): early abiior/mfc tour; Matty hasn't entirely caught up to the speed of touring again (yet). His body is tired and his bones creak and his clothes don't fit in any way that feels particularly nice. George lends him his own shirt before a radio interview on their day off and Matty remembers just how it feels to be so wholly loved, and want to love in return (in any way his body can).

i can't exist inside my own head: post-bfiafl/atvb era; married George & Matty. George isn't feeling his best and feels the need to apologize to Matty for ruining their night. Based on the post "Sex is cool but has anyone stayed awake with you just because you are feeling low?"

Someone to Watch You: backstage atvb, Matty is trying to comfort George and lift his sunken, sad mood (if he could find him first...) when a crew member needs Matty to quickly watch her daughter visiting for a Mummy at Work day. Matty is definitely not her mother and definitely still needs to find George. Laughs and child-logic aside, love is the center that will always hold.

if it was you that made my body: abiior era, during their time at the country house recording studio. Matty has a (slow, almost unnoticed) panic about whether God created him, or if he was left untouched while others around him were made divine. Like George. Always his George. Matty couldn't be the only one left to struggle like this, could he?

The Hours of the Left Behind: a meditation about George's POV in the hours right after dropping Matty off at the airport for Barbados. With Ross and Adam, he just tries to remember how to function and feel and process something so difficult and complicated. Character study-type fic with a hopeful ending and plenty of best friends supporting each other.

(Be My) God and Country (2/2): the proposal/wedding fic (ooften referred to as the "g&c" universe)! bfiafl/right before atvb era; Matty realizes during therapy a previous (ignored) conversation with George, about the engagement of their old neighbors, was his very subtle attempt to ask if Matty would marry him. Matty promptly resolves the misunderstanding with none of the finesse but all of the sincerity. Chapter 2 is all wedding, baby!

and we go ‘round and ‘round: the Anobrain lyric fic! Self titled era; George and Matty going for their usual, undefined drive to the outside of town. Matty says, as the song goes... "man I'm so high, I think I love you." and things go from there...

hi. Just wondering if you have seen the last couple of concerts that were streamed and what you think about Matty feeling quite down. Do you still think there is any hope for him and taylor to be back together

I'm going to preface this (probably) controversial take by first explaining that I think Matty is someone who, while touring, is lucky to be utterly surrounded by loved ones. From his bandmates to his manager, the personal friends he's enlisted to handle the merch, lighting, stage production, etc, even the security guys seem quite close with Matty. If the man was truly struggling with poor mental health, he has a giant support network at his fingertips. Trust me, if you can tell Matty is upset from a grainy livestream, the ones on and behind the stage can, too - and they care, even more than me or you! Because they know him, truly know him, in a way that fans never could, no matter how many times they listen to his albums or watch his interviews. He's good! Or, if he's not, he will be soon, because he's got his boys!

All that said… I'm going to draw attention to something else Matty said while on stage:

"Even in an earnest moment, you should always be suspicious."

And so, I remain suspicious! If Matty appears upset on stage, it's either one of two things: 1) tour is ending, or 2) he wants to appear upset. He once said this about ATVB:

"It's a show that feels pretty loose, but it's actually very, very tight. It's very, very well-rehearsed."

I know the generally accepted fan take is that Matty is just too ADHD to follow through with anything and gave up whatever his plans for the show were supposed to be... But what if the plan was always to make it look like he was really going through it for the duration of SATVB? Upset, distracted, struggling. He even preemptively warned of this emotional shift:

"If you see me sliding over the next six months, I appreciate it, but don't worry about it."

Of course, if Matty has truly been experiencing mental turmoil in his personal life that has since spilled into his professional life, I wish him all the best and hope he finds time and space to heal, but I trust that he's in very good hands if that's the case. After all, he assured us that the boys (his chosen family, if you will) would die for each other if it came down to it!

But, if all is as it seems and Matty truly lost Taylor last June… and if his upset during the last handful of SATVB shows was somehow connected to that loss all these months later… I would point you to the 'Oh Caroline' video, which shows what will become of him if he gets the ending he had hoped to avoid… (ie: if he got it "wrong")

He still ends up with his boys! That's not so bad, is it? Do you happen to know how many folks out there dream of growing old with either Ross, George, or Adam? A whole bunch. And all three? Matty, you lucky dog!

For me, the more likely explanation is that absolutely everything has been orchestrated from start to finish. The tour may have concluded, but the show must go on. So, yes! I would bet money on Matty finding his way back to Taylor. And by the time he does, I even suspect the tides will have turned in his favor following whatever devastation awaits us in TTPD. We'll see!

But... how curious that a pair of artists who have both romanticized star-crossed love stories... should end up in one of their own! Luckily for us, Taylor didn't like the ending of Romeo and Juliet, so she changed it. Thanks for the ask! 🤍
