Lost Kin for the writing bingo!

Lost Kin was basically a combination of "This character checks so many of my boxes" and "I could make them check even more of my boxes"

Fics like Until Dawn Shall Break, the darkness carried you home to me, the Rain and Needles series, and The Persistence of Endlings were my major inspirations, but what really got my brain spinning was the concept of a long-term Hollow caretaking fic where they learn to sign and Hornet slowly gets to know them from absolute scratch. It's expanded substantially since then (laughs nervously in "approaching 200k") but I still go back to those core ideas for inspiration.

Our Castle pls :3

So Our Castle was another writing I did before we got together for the heart collection lmao and just haven’t touched it since

I only got like. Two a singular paragraph in? Hang on lemme reread what’s in here I have naught a clue

But it was based off our lil conversation bits about us/our sonas finding that castle in the woods. I actually was doing a couple lil drawings for it if you remember what I’ve shown you. Never finished that drawing page or this writing because I just kinda forgot about it.

But yeah it was gonna be another obvious piece about you to be in the collection lmao. I might finish it one day but I’ve neglected all my collections lately.

Ruhna looks so cool! It's nice to see what the Dune Stags look like. They have such a neat design that really conveys that they've adapted to the desert with there sand-coloured fur and long lashes. I especially like the horns - they remind me of antilopes.

Dune Stags are a subspecies of Stag Beetle that are built more for endurance and adaptability in the harsh desert of the Sarjo, with coarse fur to help protect their shell from dust and sand.

The little white comma symbols are actually representing “breath” or speech! Most commonly used in Mexica art such as this one below

Im interested in the Brzz multi chapter fic 👀 I really enjoyed the story of them fighting against the aspids so Im interested in learning more about them!

I'm glad that you enjoyed that fic! Learning more about Brzzz is actually the main reason for this WIP - I want to flesh them out a bit more before the main plot of Saws, Shells, and Spirits gets going. One of the things that I have planned is their thoughts on the Hollow Knight, which is were this bit's from:

They were a pure vessel when they left, for only a pure vessel was allowed to leave. Only the true Hollow Knight could reach the light above, and follow it out of that place of darkness and death. Something must have changed them after they left, during the time between leaving and being sealed away with the infection. Brzzz could hardly fathom how strong that corrupting force had to be in order to affect the Hollow Knight. Whatever it was, it lead to the kingdom’s ruin just as much as the infection did.

7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?

Godseeker. see my other answer where the fandom just kinda makes her into a bitch as well as a groveling simp. And strip any sort of interest from her as just poorly-used comedic crutch.

10. worst part of fanon

Yknow how some people break every aspect of who a character is just to ship them with another character? Yeah that. Not crack ships or crack treated seriously or aus or anything like that, I mean deliberately ignoring every scrap of canon personality and cramming characters into boxes that don’t fit them just because you want to pair two together. Kinda goes hand in hand of just oc-ifying a character instead of making an interpretation of them yknow?

I think ruthless said it best regarding Qurriel’s nail at Blue Lake. Maybe it’s cuz I haven’t gotten there yet but it truly isn’t that worldshattering to me, suicide or not. And I love Qurriel! I just don’t care about that part ig lmao

22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores

No one talked about the fact that if you beat broken vessel before the dreamers the crossroads get infected. Maybe it’s just cuz that’s how my one playthrough is going, but that blew my mind. That made audibly go “oh shit” because it felt like I was on a timer now. The infection wasn’t being contained by Hollow and the dreamers. It was leaking badly. Sometimes I rotate the implications of that. It genuinely makes me doubt the seals and wonder if Radi could’ve broken out.

It’s cool that Ivory & Co. had such an impact on that small settlement that it’s name changed! Knoriq teaching Ivory to dance is really sweet - even if the lessons had various results, dancing is a lot of fun, especially with people you care about.

Rueby running around Thieves End with her little nail sounds so cute! I can imagine her going around her patrols, maybe even taking one of the dolls Ivory made for her as a ‘co-scout’ when she was little.

I have a question about Wisper of the Wastes: what's Thieves End like? Is it the name of Ivory & Co's base/camp, or is it a small town with the group being some of the people living there?

Also, once Ivory and Rueby get re-introduced to society after their time in the Wastes, was there any hiccups/learning curves? I'm guessing communication might have been difficult at first. Also, is there any hobbies or activities they like to when they're at home? Any their new friends taught them?

Hello! And thank you! Things are kind pf tumultuous but currently I’m ok.

As your your ask, Thieves End was a settlement, actually Im thinking it was the first settlement Ivory and Rueby showed up in. It was a small and dusty hamlet and named something else (im thinking something along the lines of Dustcliff or something), with maybe only a handful of people living there.

And with the beginnings of Ivory’s bounty hunting and the others joining it becomes a bustling hub and due to their notoriety of being nearly 100% successful with their jobs the place is known as Thieves End, which sticks as the official name.

And talking about them, absolutely there were some learning curves when it came to transitioning from pure wilds to interacting with other sentient bugs. For one the language that the two utilize is something uniquely suited for their own purposes, with the lack of spoken words meaning that Rueby regressed a bit in vocal language. And Ivory themself does not know sign and ofc can’t speak so their first meetings with the residents of Dustcliff were rocky at best.

As for Hobbies hmm, I think Ivory is less of a hobby person and more thinking that their work around the village is a hobby kdkfs. Though they do enjoy taking souvenirs from their various hunts, some that they display and some that they patch into their clothing, so they would call that a hobby. Though Knoriq has tried to teach them to dance to various degrees of success.

Rueby of course loves patrolling Thieves End with the little nail she was gifted by Ivory. She’s still fairly young when the Hunters are at their peak. (Around 3 when she left Hallownest, and around 10 at Thieves End)

She also enjoys playing cards thanks to Shrub and Bush, and has a small collection of handmade dolls and plushes that Ivory either tried to make or bought from a merchant for her.
