A very very very rough redesign of Ixis Naugus I did for fun

KYLE CROUSE: Next, Murdercide626 has a question. "How would you go about adapting Naugus into the games? What changes might you make to the character? Classic or Modern? And what kinds of interactions would he have with Eggman, if any?"

IAN FLYNN: Okay, hear me out, 'cause this is... I'm alone on this hill for this idea, okay? I freely admit that this is- this is the bonkers take, but hear me out: completely remake him as a Zeti. Okay? KYLE: Uh... y'know... y'know... IAN: He's already some weird monster man, it wouldn't take a whole lot to adjust him to still be familiar but be more Zeti-like. And instead of him being able to use his EM powers to control machines, he uses it to mess with the bio-electrical signals in your brain, so he has the mind control angle. KYLE: Hmm... okay, so he would be a modern character then, huh? IAN: Yeah. And all you gotta do is turn that 'N' sideways, and he's Zaugus. KYLE: [laughing] Zaugus! Well, I think you've done it, Ian. You have done it. Good old Zixis Zaugus. [chuckles] What kind of interactions would he have with Eggman, then? Would he manage to mind control Eggman? IAN: Yeah, like maybe Eggman's comin' in to invade and he's, y'know, EM-shielded all of his robots and gloatin' over the fact that the Deadly Six can't take control of them. Zaugus saunters on up, and is like [Ixis Naugus voice] "I may not control them, but I can control you!" Zoop! Mind-grab. KYLE: Boy, that-- IAN: [Mentok from Harvey Birdman voice] "That's taking the mind, Kyle!" KYLE: [laughing] That is horrifying! That's like... that is very- that is scary! Like, I think he might actually take over Eggman in terms of villainy in the series at that point. Hm. IAN: Like, maybe limit it to, like, it's gotta be within eye contact, it's gotta be point-to-point... maybe he can only really control one person at a time. But if you've got the keys to Eggman's Empire, or if you're using Sonic as your personal RC combatant, you can do some damage. I don't know, I think it could work. I think it could be neat. I- I also know it's a big ask of the SatAM crowd, but I don't know. I like it. KYLE: I- Someone- you could make it work! It could work. Someone's going to draw this, Ian. You know they will. IAN: Oh, go for it. KYLE: Let's see it! IAN: Even- you can keep, like, the mutant crab claw on the side as like, just extra weirdness. KYLE: Sure, sure. IAN: Give him back his old tail from SatAM that got forgotten in the Archie books. KYLE: [chuckles] Nice.

Sally and Shadow have a similar amount of depth to their stories.

A lot of Sonic fans don't like Sally, and a lot of them attribute it to her Lore being complicated

Even though we have Shadow's story right there

Not to dis on Shadow.

Shadow and Sally have really over complicated backstories. And they both work inside the Sonic universe.

They both talk about how lost you can feel when someone manipulates you, and breaking away from people's control over you will make you whole again.

They do take one different meaning and different goal for each: Sally is a lot more focused on helping her people be free even if it kills her, Shadow's honors Maria's wish to portect humanity but will do it in his own way following his path.

Their plot lines are so strong that a lot of the comics/games stories have a big focus on them, considering how detailed their stories are. So much so that you can say Shadow & Sally have their personal Villains (Black Doom, Mephiles, Infinite) & (Ixis Naugus, the SoA, King Max).

Now, they aren't inherently tied to Shadow or Sally, but they connect to their backstories that they have a bigger connect that even Sonic does.

But yeah, this is all to say that Sally works in the Sonic universe, be it JP or US.

Started out as a way to gauge my Sonic design skills, became a months long AU challenge in the making

Basically what if Sonic got stuck on yet another island but it's actually one he's been to before? (Spinball happened in the past/classic ofc)

The gist (liable to change):

Crystal structures called The Void have taken over Mt. Mobius and its islands. Only six escapees remain, who have been supposedly cut off from the world due to The Void's interference, fighting for what left of their freedom. Will Sonic be able to help his old friends/acquaintances and get off the island before they get crystallized?

I may post their individual designs later!

Day 8: Fate Summary: Against Naugus, their chances of achieving victory are slim. The Void is waiting to swallow anyone losing their footing. With the Deep Power Stones, and their hands clasped together, Sally and Sonic embark for a decisive victory. So I have a theory about the Sonic SatAM episode "Super Sonic". In this episode, Dr. Robotnik learns of an ancient evil wizard named Lazaar who had been asleep for centuries.

Lazaar had a compendium of numerous powerful spells stored in a crystal computer. Naturally, Robotnik then tracks it down in order to wield its power for himself.

My theory/headcanon is this: Not only did Robotnik want this magic crystal so as to gain near omnipotence and crush any and all rebel groups opposing him (especially Sonic), but I believe he also wished to gain this magic power as a contingency.

A contingency for what? Why, none other than Robotnik's former associate, and fearsome wielder of the dark arts, Naugus.

Robotnik is obviously a master in the realm of science, but he has little means of fending off magical opponents. The only thing that could beat magic is magic.

And not only is Naugus a master of his craft, to the point that he can instantly transmogrify matter with a mere snap of his fingers, but after Robotnik's betrayal, Naugus has been fuming for many years in the Void, waiting to exact horrible vengeance on the scientist should he ever return.

So I believe that Robotnik was on the hunt for any old magic relics that could possibly fend off Naugus should the unthinkable happen and the old wizard managed to somehow free himself. It pays to be prepared, after all.

Unfortunately for Robotnik, Sonic and his rebel friends always managed to keep him from possessing any useful arcane artifacts, and that would cost him dearly...

As I've been working on my Sonic Fanfic, I've been thinking of what would I'd potentially done with certain characters from various iterations of the franchise. Probably not what you've been asking for but nevertheless I feel like sharing on here.

I'd be interested in making Ixis Naugus more of an anti villain type of character where he would help Sonic and friends to save his own neck but maybe willing to work alongside Eggman and other baddies too. In addition, I'd be quite willing to change Naugus' (frankly stupid) original backstory from Archie to instead make him a sort of disgraced, imprisoned wizard with a chopped off left hand (where he uses the top of his septer as a makeshift prosthetic hand to replace said lost hand). I'd also redesign him so he has an actual facial beard than a long white neck beard and therefore making him look more simple to illustrate than his over designed original appearances in both Satam and Archie.

With Dr. Starline, I'd would make him an independent scientist from the start maybe with GUN before he was kicked out/discouraged. He would like in IDW steal from Eggman and use his findings to build of course Surge The Tenrec and Kit The Fennec that maybe Eggman realises that their bodies are constructed with similar technology that he often uses for his robot army. I'd probably make Starline more of a Baxter Stockman type of character, nerdy and eccentric but not one to underestimate. Someone who could potentially outsmart their opponents by clever subversion or plain luck/happenstance. I'd also have Surge and Kit be introduced as actual would-be heroes that under Starline's programming would befriend Sonic and the others that could draw Eggman's attention towards them as Starline would use his duo to essentially try and kill two birds with one stone by getting rid of both Sonic and Eggman or something.
