HBO's prequel series to Denis Villeneuve's blockbuster film adaptations of Frank Herbert's 1965 seminal sci-fi novel is also based on one its forerunner spin-offs, 2012's Sisterhood of Dune written by son Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. It provides further lore and legacy to the mysteriously powerful matriarchal superhumans, known as the "Bene Gesserit," ten thousand years earlier after the way and banishment of the "thinking machines." This series sadly reverts back to the drier, colder mythological elements of Hubert's work long thought to be unadaptable in live-action and other further proves Villeneuve's talent for making the dense sci-fi material at all entertaining in the mould of blockbuster fare. Prophecy just never comes together to be compelling enough to add to what the films have built while trying so hard to be the next Game of Thrones-style drama.

DUNE: PROPHECY 1.4 "Twice Born" Sunday, December 8, 2024 After nearly all the acolytes have the same nightmare, Tula attempts to understand the origins of their disturbing dreams. Meanwhile, on the eve of the great Landsraad meeting, Valya sets her plan in motion to redeem House Harkonnen, Ynez confronts her father about rumors surrounding Desmond, and Kieran conspires to advance a rebel attack that the Sisterhood must try to thwart.

Confession time, I am not a reader of Dune books, none of them. I did see the 1984 Dune film and since I didn't read the books I LOVED IT of course. I know from reading online that Dune book readers hated Dune 1984 it was apparently an abomination. But as a movie it was excellent for me not having read the source material, and there's nothing wrong with that it suites a different type audience.

I have also seen the remakes Dune Part 1 and Dune Part 2 and I must say they are great, but highly overrated. I imagine I would be as enthralled if I read the books but there are A LOT of books and I don't believe I could catch up with any decency.

That aside I'm really loving Dune: Prophecy, I'm raging hate against the Sisterhood and Vayla's plan that eventually seats Irulan like they ultimately want, but to take 10,000 years is means they go through a lot of downs and lows before they have any highs.

I'm very disappointed this is only a 6 episode run. Miss the 20-25 episode seasons shows used to have. You had more time to flush out plots and characters, you could actually concentrate on stuff and not have to just have the points.
