Lighten up all those shadows-1 —ACOTAR AU
Part One | warnings: fluff? Angst? | Azriel x Gwyn
Summary; All her roommates had always been lazy and rude, that was, until she met Azriel, fell for him.
Note: this is an AU it’s not in the books.

Gwyn’s POV
She nudged open the front door with her hip, keys hanging from her mouth while both her hands carried boxes, the sight that greeted her was barren, or as empty as a fully furnished floor could be, not a single picture frame or pillow, no trinkets or little touches, barren. That would definitely not do.
A door on the other side of the room as open, walking in, there was only a simple double bed and an oak desk and dresser In the room, the person she was now sharing this apartment with was apparently not a designer, there wasn’t even curtains covering the windows, disgraceful.
It seemed Gwyn had a lot of redecorating to do, whether the other inhabitant of this household appreciated it or not.
-
Three hours later and she was finished, blue bedding and rug, and cobalt curtains—which her friends had insisted she pack even though she had stated that there would be no need of them—remind her to listen to her friends more often. Gwyn had no idea what she would do without them. Speaking of, she placed a photo frame of them on her desk, all three of them wearing goofy smiles, Emerie’s glasses slightly askew and Nesta’s braces shining with her every smile.
She heard the front door freak open and decided to investigate, walking into the room, Gwyn came face to face with single-handedly the most beautiful man she had ever seen, his whiskey eyes flicking to her instantly, his fluffy onyx hair—that she oh so wanted to run her fingers through—strewn about. The man frowned. Glaring at her, what was that about? “Can you move? My bedroom is in that direction,” he said flatly, how rude, she crosses her arms and glared straight back at him, he scowled, she smirked. Two could play that game.
He seemed to realise she wasn’t giving up so he just sighed and walked around her, Gwyn did not notice that his scent was of Night chilled mist and Cedar and leather, not at all, neither did she notice that he walked with a unnatural grace or that tattoos peaked out from the sleeves of his very tight black shirt.
His shoulder bumped into hers as he walked past, she knew he did it on purpose, to see how riled up she could get from the simplest thing, “asshole,” she muttered, though she couldn’t be certain, Gwyn swore she saw him smiling, his tired eyes lighting up as he entered his room, closing the door surprisingly softly.
-
Gwyn woke up to the sounds of the kitchen, clinking of glass, crackling of the stove, draws opening, ect. She groaned as she got up. Nearly falling out of the bed onto the floor, she sat there for a moment before the delicious smell of food flooded her senses, she slid into her slippers and padded to the kitchen, nearly slipping when she beheld the sight.
There he was, shirtless, cooking pancakes and squeezing oranges into juice, and holy Mother— his muscles were gorgeous, he looked like a god made man, for a second. She thought she was drooling. Especially when those whiskey eyes landed on hers, she could almost make out specs of green in them but she would have to get closer— “what?” He said, oh shit, did she say those embarrassing things out loud? He looked positively delicious but that didn’t mean she wanted to tell him that.
He was staring at her incredulously and she had half the mind to look somewhere else, suddenly finding the espresso machine to be far more interesting, was she blushing? Surely she was beet red by now, Gwyn wanted to shrivel up and die from the way he was still staring at her, perhaps if she prayed enough to the Mother a hole would open up in the floor and it would swallow her up. But that was wishful thinking.
He seemed to realise he was staring and turned around, flipping the pancakes, she grabbed two plates and glasses before pouring the juice into the cups, Azriel putting all the food onto their respective plates before flicking off the stove and leading her to the horribly bland table.
Gwyn didn’t dare make eye contact with her roommate as she uttered out a ‘thank you’ and started pouring maple syrup onto her food.
They finished breakfast in silence and then left, Azriel seemingly going to work and her a nearby cafe to study.
-
Yawning, she made her way back to the apartment, her keys jingling, she unlocked the door, immediately met with the sounds of a football game coming from the Tv and the sound of very-male laughter along with the clinking of drinks, she wandered over to the noise, immediately spotting Azriel sipping from a Beer as he shouldered the guy next to him, the very handsome guy with long black hair tied into a bun with a subtle stubble lining his jaw. Next to him. Was another gorgeous guy, this one more elegant than rugged, his short black hair combed back, wearing a slightly rumpled suit.
She met eyes with Azriel, his expression immediately changing into a cringe at the attention, the other men didn’t seem to notice her presence as they yelled at the Tv, but he did, Azriel seemed to always do that, he got up, dusting off chip crumbs from his pants before standing in front of her.
He nodded his head in the direction of her room and didn’t say anything as they made their way to the room, once inside, he closed the door, turning to her, “I’m sorry,” he started, “I should have told you people were coming over,” sorry? What on earth could he be sorry for? “It’s fine, Azriel. Really, it didn’t bother me at all, you’re allowed to have company,” she said softly, his expression was still pained but lightened ever so slightly. “I—I’ve had a lot of a roommates before all I don’t know why but they all had something against me, yelling at me for the smallest things, I kinda stuck with me, y’know?” She nodded her head again. Who could ever do such a thing? And Azriel seemed like such a sweetheart. . .
She grabbed his hand and squeezed it tightly, “don’t worry about it, go, be with your friends,” she said, squeezing his hand once more for emphasis, he gulped, looking down at their hands, he didn’t say anything more before walking out of the room, leaving her with her own wondering thoughts.
The End.

A strong suggestion of plagiarism: Detailing the similarities between Anne Bishop’s The Black Jewels trilogy and Sarah J. Maas’s ACOTAR series
Anne Bishop released her The Black Jewels trilogy between 1998 and 2003. It is a dark fantasy book trilogy, part of a larger fantasy saga within the world of The Black Jewels. Sarah J. Maas released the first book in her A Court of Thorns and Roses fantasy romance series, which goes by the same name, in 2015. This popular series of Maas is still ongoing.
For the last decade, many individuals have noticed glaring similarities between Maas’ fantasy series and Bishop’s earlier books. From character names to world-building elements and plotlines, several readers have concluded it is highly possible that Sarah J. Maas has plagiarized major aspects of Bishop’s work in the ACOTAR series. For purely legal reasons, I am hesitant to say outright that Mass indeed plagiarized The Black Jewels in ACOTAR. However, I do believe that there is very strong evidence indicating that Maas may have done so. Please note all my screenshots here are all from The Black Jewels and I can provide more if necessary.
This post presents my observations of the similarities between Maas’ book series compared to Bishop’s trilogy. Indeed, there are several elements that are near-indentical in Maas’ series compared to Bishop’s. Whatever is in brackets is my shabby-MLA-esque way of referencing in which specific book you can find the content I'm talking about. I am aware others have made similar posts on Tumblr and Reddit, and I salute them! Here, I am merely outlining what I have noticed myself, and I imagine there will be significant overlap between his post and others online.
The Eyrians and the Illyrians
The Eyrians are a winged warrior race in TBJ, described as having tanned skin, black hair, gold eyes and "batlike wings". They are one of the long lived races and live thousands of years, based upon a lofty mountain range in their realm. They are a warrior race with a long history of physical fighting, often reputed to be "backward" by aristocrats in their realm (DOTB, HTTS). Their "dark, membranous" wings are the prized physical feature among their race and they have a tradition of turning to militarism and barbarism during skirmishes (DOTB). Cutting off or clipping an Eyrian's wings is the greatest torture and the worst dishonour for a warrior (HTTS). The Illyrians in ACOTAR are a virtually identical winged mountain warrior race with a similar culture and physical features including "black, membranous" wings and tanned skin (ACOTAR). The Eyrians, like the Illyrians, yearn for freedom of their expansive mountains and the war camps within them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eyrian males are raised to be warriors in hunting camps in the mountains, while females are forbidden from touching weapons and are confined to domestic pursuits. Eyrian women are often mistreated and are usually expected to be docile and subservient to their militaristic males (QOTD). This is the same gender construct present among the Illyrians in ACOTAR.
The Eyrians in TBJ carry prejudices against half-Eyrians, similar to the Illyrians' prejudices against "half-breeds" like Rhysand in the ACOTAR series (ACOMAF). The word “half-breed” is actually used to describe an important half-Eyrian in TBJ, Lucivar Yaslana.
Tumblr media
The Eyrians have a practice known as the "Blood Run" which is a rite of passage taken by skilled Eyrian warriors in their mountains, rather similar to both "Nephelle's Run" and the "Blood Rite" which we learn about in ACOWAR and ACOSF respectively.
Powerful Illyrians, like Cassian and Azriel, use siphons—colourful, jeweled gauntlets that channel and hone their magical power. This is eerily similar to the way aristocrats in TBJ use jewels to channel and concentrate their power. The Illyrians also wear fighting leathers while the Eyrians wear black skintight leathers to go to battle.
Lucivar Yaslana and Cassian
Lucivar Yaslana is an Eyrian male who commands a large portion of the Eyrian troops. He is described as a "bastard", both as an insult and a jest in TBJ, because his father and his mother were unmarried and he did not grow up knowing his father who’s the High Lord. The same situation is pertinent to Cassian in ACOMAF whose "bastard reputation" precedes him.
In QOTD, Lucivar begins training Eyrian females to defend themselves and fight military-style, which is a radical move in the realm and receives a lot of push-back from fellow Eyrian males. Lucivar wants to make sure the Eyrian women tap into their strength, at least a little, to prevent them from being helpless when under attack or in battle. There's a few heartwarming training montages in QOTD where he whips them into shape. Cassian leads a similar initiative in ACOSF where he trains Illyrian women so they learn to defend themselves and some even become respected warriors.
Lucivar has gold eyes, big wings, big muscles, shoulder-length dark hair, and light brown skin. Cassian also has gold eyes, big wings, big muscles, shoulder-length dark hair, and light brown skin. Lucivar ultimately reports to the authority of his queen and serves her faithfully just as Cassian reports to authority of his High Lord and Lady and serves them faithfully.
Daemon SaDiablo and Rhysand
Daemon SaDiablo of TBJ was forced to serve as a sex slave in the court of an evil priestess, Dorothea of Hayll, and he has experienced a lot of trauma and pain for hundreds of years due to being forced to serve in the bedchamber of this abusive enslaver. Rhysand similarly serves as a sex slave to Amaratha for 50 years when she builds her court Under the Mountain. In TBJ, the evil queen who conquers the realm through cruelty and corruption, Dorothea, enslaves multiple males to serve her in bed and she even banishes Lucivar to land's brutal "salt mines" when he becomes disobedient. Daemon is known as "Hayll's whore" by the public in DOTB just as Rhysand is known as "Amarantha's whore" by the public in ACOTAR.
Daemon has jet-black hair, golden skin, and a frighteningly beautiful face. Daemon is also known as a natural Black Widow, one of the one only male Black Widows ever in their world. As such, Daemon is one of the most powerful males in all the realm. Rhysand, similarly, has dark hair, a stunningly beautiful face, and has unique powers making him the most powerful High Lord. Daemon, like Rhysand, becomes the highest ranking male in his "Dark Court" and he is also the main love interest (QOTD).
Daemon has a habit of putting his hands in his pocket when he's nervous and/or trying to intimidate people. Rhysand has the same habit. Daemon is feared for his sadism and power in TBJ but is, deep down, a good person and a devoted lover, similar to Rhysand’s persona being much crueler and sadistic than his real personality (ACOMAF).
Daemon originally starts seeing the protagonist of the series, Jaenelle, in his dreams and he recognizes while enslaved that she is the realm's salvation (DOTB, QOTD). Rhysand also begins seeing glimpses of Feyre in his dreams while enslaved Under the Mountain and he knew she was Prythian’s hope (ACOMAF).
Wingspans
We know that in the ACOTAR world, the wingspan of an Illyrian male is supposedly proportional to their, yunno, male parts. This is also the case in The Black Jewels where, in the second book, we learn a male's wingspan also corresponds to the size of his… down there.
Tumblr media
Scents and gender
In TBJ, magical figures have the abilities to identify or smell another person based on his or her "psychic scent", which is their unique scent. The psychic scent also allows them to sense the magical abilities, emotions and traumatic experiences of other persons. Romantic couples also have a keen awareness of their partner's scent. This is the likewise the case in the ACOTAR world where mates and fae can identify and read each other based on specific scents including their arousal.
Tumblr media
In TBJ, you can put up a "psychic shield" to stop someone from peering into your thoughts and reading you through your psychic scent. It's the same in the ACOTAR world, a concept introduced in ACOMAF, where you can put up a mental shield or barrier to stop someone like the daemati from breaking into your mind.
The males in TBJ can become quite territorial and possessive over their women and mates, almost animalistic based on their emotions. They purr and snarl and growl quite often, and Sarah J. Maas uses identical descriptive language regarding the bat boys.
Dragons and Amren
There's an older female character called Draca in TBJ who is a dragon in human form, trapped in a human body. Draca, who serves in the main character's Dark Court, has to decipher old texts in the TBJ because she is the only one who understands the ancient languages they contain. Draca is referred to as the "ancient one." This is exactly like Amren being known as the little "ancient one", a powerful angel in human form who is the only one that can decipher the Book of Breathings in ACOMAF.
There is a "creature" deep beneath the Keep and library of the High Lord of Hell in TBJ who, in HTTS, turns out to be a mighty dragon whose name is Lorn. Likewise, beneath the library in Velaris lurks Bryaxis who is a dangerous dragon-esque creature (ACOWAR).
Other worldbuilding plotpoints
There are “High Lords” of various realms in The Black Jewels and High Lord is not a traditional feudal title throughout history or mythology. One major character in TBJ is the High Lord of Hell, Saetan SaDiablo. His court, and that of his adopted daughter, is known as the Dark Court or the "Court of Darkness". Rhysand is the most powerful High Lord who presides over the Night Court which is also, in many ways, Prythian's own Court of Darkness.
The Dark Court in TBJ has a "first circle" that is comprised of the queen's most trusted courtiers. Rhysand's Court of Dreams in ACOMAF also has an "inner circle".
Jaenelle is known as "Dreams Made Flesh" because of her immense power and ability to deliver her lands from evil. Jaenelle was a saviour-figure who was dreamt up by the "dreamers" in her realm who were suffering and oppressed for many years, ruled over by cruel queens (QOTD). Likewise, the Court of Dreams and Feyre's defeat of Amarantha were, more or less, the product of dreamers who wished upon the stars (ACOMAF). Just like how Feyre possesses the power of all seven High Lords, Jaenelle is the magical figure to possess the power of all the various colored jewels in TBJ.
There is a character named Prythian in The Black Jewels who is a powerful priestess, and the main land that the ACOTAR series is set in is called Prythian. There's also an assassin-prostitute character in TBJ named Surreal, and the Suriel is character in the ACOTAR series.
The sigil/seal of Janelle's Dark Court in TBJ, we learn in the second book, is an image of a mountain with a unicorn’s horn above it. The main sigil of the Night Court in ACOTAR is a mountain below three stars. The vastness and freedom of mountains are a motif in both TBJ and ACOMAF.
Conclusion: There are others online who have pointed out the similarities between The Black Jewels and the Throne of Glass series, but it’s been many years since I read Throne of Glass and I’m rusty so I won’t touch it. Did Sarah J. Maas rip off Anne Bishop’s work? I think it could be proven in a court of law, but I’m quite hesitant to say outright that she’s guilty of plagiarism. Is Sarah J. Maas guilty of serious unoriginality? Yes, definitely. A preliminary search online will tell you that Sarah J. Maas has openly praised Bishop’s writing and she has even said that Lucivar is her favourite fantasy man of all time. Bishop's books were released when Maas was a teenager. Make of this what you will.
I’ve used a variety of tags on this post because, honestly, I’m not sure whether it falls into the “anti” category of posts or not. I think this post neutral in tone and exists just to catalogue the similarities between both series. I hence believe both fans and antis might appreciate it... for different reasons.

Sarah J Mass said it's pretty obvious!!
🔥 Cassian's bedroom habits thinking about Nesta.
He had no idea how it had happened: how he’d gone from mocking Nesta to taunting her with his own bedroom habits. Then imagining her hand wrapped around him, pumping him, until he was a heartbeat away from exploding out of his chair and leaping into the skies.
🔥 Azriel's bedroom habits thinking about Elain
He had only allowed himself these thoughts in the dead of night. Had only allowed his hand to fist his cock and think about her then. ===============================
▪️These clips are precisely from the promotion of Acosf, days before the book with the Bonus chapters is published. Chapter where the author precisely shows us Azriel's bedroom habits and his voracious hunger while thinking about ELAIN!!😉 🗣️🗣️

Hello, i have a little thought.
Re-reading Azriel's bonus chapter because: 1.) I need my dose of Gwynriel, and 2.) We won't have anymore from Sarah J Mass after February 2025...if we are lucky. I was surprise by a revelation i had minutes after reading it.
I know this chapter has been analyses from top to bottom from Gwynriel to Elriel's shippers, and most likely what i have to say will be a repetition from previous posts on Tumblr, Reddit, and even twitter, but i can't unsee it now. Is in the scene when Azriel and Rhysand are having this little discussion:
"So you'll what?" Rhys's voice was pure ice. "Seduce her away from him?”
Azriel said nothing. He hadn't gotten that far with his planning, certainly not beyond the fantasies he pleasured himself to.
A lot has been said about this Azriel's thought, and what i want to add is how SJM in a subtle phrase inform us how all the previous Elriel's moments... go to hell, they go all to hell because Azriel puts his sexual fantasies above a life with Elain, above the moments they shared in the past: The brushes of their hands, their first meeting where Feyre notices Elain was close to him, Elain talking about her plans of expanding the gardens, when they are in kitchen, the first solstice where she gives him the powder because she *noticed* his headaches, or joking with him for the second gift for Nessian doing it too loud.
We can't deny their chemistry in those moments, but when Rhysand gives him the chance to defend why he has "the right" to at least persuade Elain romantically, to explain his desires and love for this mated female; he goes blank. Blank.
"He hadn't gotten that far with his planning", so he never imagines himself helping Elain in the garden? Helping her cooking? Going out with her on Velaris's streets? Has he ever imagine taking Elain on a flight just to have a good time? Living with her, training her, a pinic with her? Nothing, really nothing? I have read about Elriel's repeating like a disk, Azriel saying he won't think Gwyn as friend, but they choose to ignore or justify this. Azriel having a crush on Elain for two years and has not even thought once a life next to her. All this time, has he just pleasures himself of the thought of Elain, but not actually having a life besides her? Hell's sake, he could have said about the gift, his process of thinking about a perfect gift for Elain as the necklace was, but he just thinks (think with his Daemati, just let this sink in, daemati brother in front of him) he just jerks off from Elain.
And Azriel is really asking himself why Rhysand is not buying his bullshit?
Lust and intimacy can be balance out, we see it when Feyre gets inside Lucien's mind, how he is clearly attracted to her and at the same time is worry about Elain's physical and emotional state. Lucien puts Elain's sake and comfort above anything else, even if he wants more, that's why he longed for her even if ends up in hurting himself in the process by seeing Elain's reluctance. Sarah J Mass could have written a moment like that in this chapter, Azriel noticing the change in Elain (as he does realize it with Gwyn) but he just focuses on the pleasure, of a single and only taste and that's it.
And is sad, most likely, in Elain's view, she may thought she finds something different in Az, a sense of normalcy of her previous life, the repeated choice of falling in love with someone else rather than following a mating bond. Just for Azriel to say: This was a mistake.
And for all of the above, the cauldron was not wrong.
YES to ALL.
There are a bunch of "sweet" E/riel moments the other side loves to post about but when given a chance to reflect back on a single one in his POV, Az does not and I think that proves they really weren't romantic.
Az gave Elain his super special dagger?
He spares it no thought.
Elain MAYBE called his scars beautiful (though I think it was his siphons)? He never thinks of it.
Elain made him laugh hysterically with her Solstice gift in the novella? All he thinks about is how she got him a gift but not her mate.
Elain saved Az's life? Briar's life? Nesta and Cassian's life? He doesn't give her credit for any of it. He doesn't even think of how far she's come or her fights with Nesta.
Rhys KNOWS that Az has been in love with Mor (his cousin) for centuries and he's pretty horrified to find Az ready to hook up with his sister in-law yet when Az is given the chance to confess these supposed feelings he can't say a single thing that would reassure Rhys that it's not as bad as it looks, that he's not using Elain like a hooker. Instead Az only leaves Rhys in a further state of distress over his behavior because his friend of centuries did nothing to reassure him that he had any real feelings for Elain.
The bonus chapter was the nail in the E/riel coffin for sure. There were barely any E/riel moments in SF to begin with so even if someone hadn't read the bonus they wouldn't be going into the next book thinking anything more existed between Elain and Az. Not when Az's attention completely shifted from Mor and Elain at the start to Gwyn and only Gwyn for the second half.

Hi ✨
I have a little problem about this people (gwynriel/elucien). (I came from TikTok) haha.
This is very hypocritical when is about the BC and I can not explain why Azriel is a “pervert” when his wants Elain. But it’s fine if the story round about Gwyn. I’m sure all these people read “pervert” storylines in other books. But, “oh is Elain, thats not okay”. Really? 🤦‍♀️
“Azriel don’t deserve Elain, Lucien is a gentleman” Elain: Sorry, Lucien doesn’t exist for me. 💋
Sorry, English is not my first language.
Bye. *azriel came for me * 🦇
Hello my darling Anon! Your English is perfect!
Thank you so much for dropping by 💜 I had to take a few days to sit with this one, because I too get frustrated and struggle with this. Words have meaning. At best, calling Azriel an incel is a poor and ignorant insult, and at worst it is a disturbing disregard for the fact that incels are violent against women because they won't sleep with them.
To call Azriel an incel or a pervert or a creep because he is attracted to Elain, and in the same breath ship him with the most s*xually traumatized character in the series is... a choice.
I could go through all the passages of Rhys and Cassian being horny, being jealous, being on their knees for their women. But it doesn't even matter. The fundamental thought process is too flawed to bother outlining rational evidence against it.
But I always try to humanize these situations. Imagine:
You are at a conference with Sarah J. Mass and you are selected to get an ask at a Q&A.
Your question is this-
"Sarah, I love Azriel and G/wyn. Please explain how you made the decision to make Azriel super creepy and gross and entitled/perverted to set him up perfectly for a romance with the only female character in this series that had graphic and explicit depictions of the s*xual violence done to them. It was such a perfect segue and I can't wait to hear how you came up with the idea!"
Sarah: "....."
I don't know what else there is to say about the topic. But considering Sarah has been talking about how excited she is to write his freaky sex scenes, I have to wonder how people are struggling to differentiate between something they simply don't like, and understanding it is a matter of taste (many of us Elriels thought the bonus chapter was HOT) and literally creating an unhinged narrative that makes no sense whatsoever for the author.
There is no convincing people who choose to believe this. Protect your peace and stay safe out there!! And welcome to Tumblr!

🌼🌹Sarah J. Maas simping for Elain Archeron through her characters POVs🌸🌺
✨A series ✨
Part 5: Cassian
Tumblr media
I believe this was another tactic of Sara J mass to remind the fandom that we’re all making assumptions about Elain and most likely they are not true.
I do think Sara is sick and tired of these people bashing a character that is feminine and kind. It has to be weird for an author to see a bunch of young women hate kind/ feminine women characters.
The “girl boss” that banters with her love interest character is over done. I think it’s refreshing that Elain has been called strong and kind and still able to form a meaningful relationship to a character that seems so lost, Azriel.
Sometimes I don’t know whom I feel more sorry for the people who can’t see the loveliness of this up coming plot or for Sara to deal with these shitty fans.
Tumblr media
Scarlet was an important character, but Millie was equally important, and was strong in her own way. She brought much-needed happiness and loveliness to a terrible situation and I believe that both characters are important. Imagine, staying strong and kind in a situation you have every reason to be nasty and hateful but choose not to. That is a different type of strength.
Milly also chose to look beyond the exterior and see the goodness in Scarlet And love her for who she was. And see that she truly loved Rhett.

the assassin is dead. she embraced the identity of Aelin galathynius, queen of terrasen. but before claiming the throne, she must fight. and she will fight. for her cousin, the general of the north... a warrior prepared to die for his liege; for his friend dorian, a prince trapped in an unimaginable prison; for her people, enslaved by a cruel king and awaiting the triumphant return of their leader; for your carranam and the release of magic.
in advancing her plan, however, aelin must watch out for old enemies. and open your heart to new and unlikely allies. all while the valg continue to work in the shadows. and manon blackbeak, the winged leader of the thirteen, trains her flying beasts. but it's from morath, the mountain stronghold of the duke of perrington, that a threat like no other promises to tear his band of rebels and his newly formed court apart.
my opinion
i finished this book with a mixture of warm in my heart and genuine dread, i liked that they finished this book relatively well and apparently they are finding each other, but i already imagine that what comes after that is total terror. I liked that the book serves two purposes, ending Celaena's story and starting Aelin's story, I have to admit, I love Celaena, I didn't want to have to say goodbye to her, but that's the way.
so far I don't swallow the fey very well, I find everything about them very strange, the author portrays them as animals, I feel a certain embarrassment when I have to read descriptions of these “male”, “female”, “male-smelling” people , I can't take it seriously. another thing that bothers me is the age of the characters, (this goes for most books of the genre), the characters are very young and have already lived through absurd things, I think it would be more realistic and present characters in their 20s.
“when you break the shackles of this world and forge the next, remember that art is as vital as food to a kingdom. without it, a kingdom is nothing and will be forgotten in time. I've already saved enough money in my crappy life that I don't need more, so you'll understand very well when I say that no matter where you establish your throne or how long it takes, I will come to you, bringing song and dance.”
I'm not a big fan of Rowan and Aelin as a couple, mainly due to their age difference, but I like how they both know their past and respect the history they had before they met, few couples have this maturity.
I was happy that by the end of the book, all the characters showed good development, - even the chaol who was driving me crazy. several things made me scream like a fool, SPOILER to aelin saving manon's life, keltain sacrificing himself and saving elide, manon helping dorian, dorian's friendship with aelin, all of these were parts of the book that definitely they tagged me. SPOILER
finally, aelin ashryver galathynius was home.

A court of thrones and roses-
romance 3/5
spicy 1/5
Guys, I sold my soul to Sarah J Mass...jk alright, the hype was worth it. Booktok was right again. and I highly recommend it. I love Feyre; I love her character development and her whole family issue; coming from taking care of her family and sacrificing so much of her life to just coming to an entire New World to reinvent herself is so exciting. This happens because she kills a wolf, a fairy who was Tamlin's soldier who he sent off in the woods so that he can break a curse that was on Prynthian for the last 50 years. The curse is for 50 years; most of Prnthian has to be under the mountain, except for part of the spring court, which is stuck wearing masks for 50 years and tormented by a magical curse that depletes the magic from each high lord. Acotar is actually a beauty and beast retelling which i didn't know until after the reading the series.
Feyre is given an ultimatum of being killed or being brought to live in Prythian on the treaty between of the fairy and mortal lands treaty and this is when she is brought to the spring court by Tamlin, and this is when the plot starts to quicken we learned that there is a curse and she knows she has to break a curse, but she doesn't know how to because everyone is so secretive about it, so she has to find specific ways how to break it without breaking. The rules are so crazy to me, and she also falls in love with Tamlyn, a spring court high lord, who she hates. Still, in reality, she hates all fae just because of the prejudice of the mortal lands, and how they make them seem, but once she gets over that prejudice towards the fae, she starts to fall in love with Tamlyn. And the whole under the mountain part is one of my favorite parts of the book. Yeah, Amarantha captures her, and she has to go through these trials, but just reading it is just so awesome to me. Mind you, I also had the graphic audio audiobook while reading at the same time so that I could hear the characters' voices while reading it, and I like the music, and the sound effects help you experience the book so much better as well. It's so cool; not only do you get to imagine it in your head, but you also get the sound effects, guys. It makes the book experience so much better, and if you can get your hands on the graphic audio audiobook, I highly recommend that you do.

Honestly, thank you, Sarah J Mass, for writing Rowan because I can't imagine a life without him.
thinking about that time Rowan Whitethorn said
“I missed you. When I was in Wendlyn. I lied when I said I didn’t. From the moment you left, I missed you so much I went out of my mind. I was glad for the excuse to track Lorcan here, just to see you again. And tonight, when he had that knife at your throat… I kept thinking about how you might never know that I missed you with only an ocean between us. But if it was death separating us… I would find you. I don’t care how many rules it would break. Even if I had to get all three keys myself and open a gate, I would find you again. Always.”

Since I’ve finally had a second to breath from academic prison, I’ve started reading again.
My reason for reading:
1) Reconnect with my middle school self, who was a book worm
2) See how the person I have grown up to be has changed my tastes in books
I started my journey by re reading a book series that I really loved, it’s the Court series by Sarah J Mass.
When I was younger I loved her books, but when I was younger all I wanted to read was fantasy love stories that I could imagine happening to me some day.
So now re visiting the story has a fresh adult who has learned far more about herself, and just doesn’t dig that basic love story stuff, I definitely was “rolling my eyes” at the mate stuff, the over use of sex in situations I would think both parties would not be up for, portraying men has having to have a certain type of body to be considered beautiful, woman be powerful but still being damals in distress… bla bla I could go on
But! That middle school girl is still me and when Rys first showed up I started crying. Either way this book was a copping mechanism for a little girl going through a tough time.
Anyway, where am I now in my book journey? I want fantasy but I want effortlessly inclusive fiction.
I want books that explore the world and feel real. I want people of all backgrounds and I want to feel like the characters could walk off the page.
I also don’t want it too seem like gay characters were added as a second thought for feel fake because the author was trying to be inclusive.
In my search for such a book I wound up at my local library, looking through the long wall of fiction, only to find they but a little gay flag sticker on books that have gay themes. And when I realized this there were only two books that seemed to exist I started to sigh..
But not hopeless yet I came across a book called FishBowl by Bradley Somer. First the book cover struck me, and it wasn’t fantasy but I thought I may give it a try since what else was I gonna do?
Ima go into detail about some characters I really love, just know if you want some people who are effortlessly themselves and happen to be gay along the way read it, was such a breath of fresh of air in a work that sucks

Garth Garth Garth Garth 🥹
I can’t tell you enough when I say I have loved a character so much. Normally a character has to have something in common with myself or someone I care about for me to be invested in them
But this character could not be further from me haha
We are introduced to him by the perceptive of another character, and we seem him as a big “scary” construction worker man who the character bumps into
This introduction makes me over look him, because why would there be anything special in him
Then we finally get to see from his perspective, but it’s him talking about a woman who walks past the construction sight with his co worker, and has he looks at her walk it describes how the dress she wears moves with the stretch and twist of her body
In my mind I say gross, I hate men who say they appreciate the beauty of feminine things but really they mean the sexual side of feminine thing 🤮
However as a reader we start to invest in him more when he goes to pick up a package that is hidden from us
We don’t know where it’s from what it could be, all we know is it’s in a small box and he goes through the back to pick it up to suggest he keeps this part of himself quiet, secret, and untouched
At this point I’m curious but still not in love with this character, and technically the rest of his time in the novel doesn’t mean much but this is where I will introduce the super of the apartment building..
He works night and day talking care or the building who feels unnoticed for his efforts by the people who live in the building, he is a hopeless romantic and feels like he can’t be romantic because age or it hasn’t been the chance
He has a moment in the book where he describes how English stifles his romantic flare, that he sounds so undeveloped, rough in English and if someone could hear him in Spanish they would see how smooth and beautiful he can be, which is heartbreaking
I myself feel like an idiot when I try and communicate in the language I’m trying to learn so I can kind of understand but it felt real to hear him think that about himself
Anyway we learn that he loves old romantic movies and songs, he loves dancing and particularly loves the elegant feminine style of clothes
He gets all dazzled up so that when he is down with his last service request he can give himself a night on the town, so he approached the last apartment that is just a leaky sink and he thinks back to an actress who he said had such beautiful ankles (weird it will make sense later)
Now I’m switching back to Garth, he enters his Apartment that he recognizes the faucet is still leaking
Rushed into his room to open his box, and he starts to describe that the shop he frequents is a dress shop who has a special custom seamstress who knows how to make dress that fit him perfectly
He recounts how his body is so masculine, hairy, large, not feminine at all.. he goes on to describe how he is a lover of the art of femininity and when he sees women in dress he wishes to embody that type of beauty as well
In the box is a custom dress and strapy heels, and he comments that his toes are so ugly but his ankles.. his ankles are his best attribute 😩
Are you guys seeing what’s happening here, two people who aren’t even remotely connected, have never even said they were outright fruity
Just lover of romance, of beauty come together in an unlikely place both respecting each others meaning and appreciating there stepping out of their comfort zone
There’s more to the story, the whole book is good but these characters.. THESE CHARACTERS made me giggle squeal and dance
And it was so special because i didn’t get to see there after story, I get to imagine the drive in movie theater dates, the super learning to cook meals for his beauty while the beauty learns to dance with him ✨
Anyway to many more beautiful love stories that don’t fit the binary and are just so much more beautiful for that reason alone
Cheers 🥂 to love found in unlikely places and people being there authentic selfs!

this is a general question for elriels but how do you feel about sjm not saying anything about the next acotar book? do you believe it's all BB or she's taking part in it?
I think that Sarah is busy with her new family. I don’t think she knows what to do about the Fandom right now. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be an author, and set up a Character like Elain, then see so much hate in your fandom for that Character.
That being said, Sarah J mass really likes to use the girl boss, strong, female character who have a lot of the non-feminine traits as her main characters.
The big question is, does Sarah care about her writing anymore or the series anymore? If not, everything comes down to money. She has Been labelled as one of the most prolific young adult writers, so I am sure her ego is playing a part in maintaining her title. and what I mean by this is book sales
The Crescent city series is not selling as well as.ACOTAR. the last book ACOSF didn’t sell as well as her previous books. So she really just needs to keep the hype going. also, I know a little bit more about TV shows and movies, and what it takes to get them to go from an idea, development, pre-production and production and post production and I really don’t think that this show is going to happen. There is nothing that makes me feel like the show is going to happen. Especially in this market and how streaming is no longer as strong as it was. perfect example the shadow and bone show basically just dropped off the face of the Earth.
I’ve been in this fandom for five years, but read the books for the past 10 years. She really has disengaged from the fandom and I don’t know why.
