Sigh. Not even shocked that these men were doing this. Also, Jonah's texts sound identical (with less cursing) to Johnny Depp's texts to Amber Heard about not allowing her to work. He even fired her stylist and forced her to use his own to control her wardrobe, and hired someone to follow her around when she was on set to report back to him on every move she made and every person she talked to. He'd of course then go on to accuse her of sleeping with every single person she interacted with. These are not "boundaries", this is coercive control; it is abuse.

Ok is it alright if I talk about the jonah hill situation (or rather the reactions to it) for a moment? because it is fascinating to me in an unsettling way how people have taken therapy language and extreme black and white thinking and applied them in such a way that they can not see nuance in similar situations. Stating a preference, setting a boundary, finding a compromise, and manipulating/controlling someone are similar in that they all have to do with things you do or don’t like, but it’s the way which you go about it that determines if you are being controlling or not. Like there is a world where someone can say “I thought i was ok with this aspect of your job but i’m not so need to leave this relationship” or “I’m feeling insecure about something can we see if we can talk it out and figure out if there is a way to help me feel more secure in this situation?” and have it be examples of healthy communication and setting boundaries and compromise. Or you could say “you need to stop doing your job because it makes me uncomfortable and if you don’t, I don’t want to but I’m going to have to dump you” and be an example of control and manipulation of a situation. It feels like people are really getting caught up and confused because the end outcomes of healthy commutation vs control can look the same, you either break up or a something changes so they are acting like people are saying jonah had to stay in a relationship where he wasn’t happy or else he’s abusive which like isn’t the case at all.

I think it has been made abundantly clear in Sarah Brady’s posts that Jonah Hill was not trying to communicate in a healthy, productive way at all, but was rather exhibiting manipulative, controlling and abusive behavior.

Jonah wasn’t setting boundaries, he was using that word and other forms of therapy language to try and justify his demanding control over his partner.

A boundary does NOT equate to being able to control your partners appearance.

A boundary is don’t touch me without consent, don’t sneak up on me it triggers me. Don’t just show up unannounced. If I ask for space, give me space. Even- hey I know you love this show. But it triggers my anxiety and at least for now. I don’t want to watch it. I’ll try again later when I’m in a better head space.

A boundary is NOT don’t wear this, don’t wear that, don’t talk to men, don’t take sexy pictures. Then chastise when your partner doesn’t follow your demands to the letter.

This sounds more like a hostage negotiation than it does a fucking relationship.

Stop trying to turn happy bad bitches, into miserable sad bitches just like you.

If you can’t handle them? Leave. But don’t you dare try to make them feel bad for being the person that attracted them to begin with.

Okay, this might be a controversial take, but I really don’t think we should be cancelling Jonah Hill over the Sarah Brady texts. Was he being an AH with his list of demands like that? Yeah. Is it a major red flag? Definitely. Even though I think it’s healthy for people to voice what makes them uncomfortable in a relationship, the way Hill went about it was incredibly rude at best. But behaving like an AH shouldn’t necessarily get people cancelled. Cancelling should be reserved for criminals, like Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey, not for some dude being a sucky boyfriend.

Out of curiosity I looked through Sarah Brady’s Instagram. (Who’s a surfer.) Her most "sexual" pictures on her Instagram are ones where she's posing for the camera to advertise the swimsuit she's wearing. (Again, she’s a surfer.)

It doesn’t actually matter. She could’ve posted nudes and it wouldn’t matter. It’s just that knowing what Jonah Hill is freaking out over and it barely being anything sexual at all just makes him look extremely insecure. I’d almost feel pity for him if he wasn’t a controlling, abusive piece of shit.
