I love darkly atmospheric #circusbooks and #carnivalbooks! So much so, that in my upcoming #yafantasy, #Mystiquiel, there's a #creepy #carnival that plays a role in my MC's adventure within a world of #goblins and #faeries. However, the carnival is a small part of the story. I do have a couple of ideas for #circus-themed novels somewhere down the road, where the entire story will take place inside a magical setting of dangerous games, cryptic riddles, and menacing performers. 🖤 🎪 However, out of the books pictured here, the wonderfully magical #Caraval is the only title I've had a chance to read so far. I have a #beautiful hardback of #TheNightCircus on my shelf but it’s difficult for me to read hard copies due to my daily routine of tending house and the business of writing. My only chance is at night when I snuggle under the covers on my kindle while my husband's asleep. So, unless it’s loaded onto my e-reader, I have to wait for vacation time. 😂 🖤 🤡 Although they’re not pictured, “Water for Elephants” by #SaraGruen and “The Museum of Extraordinary Things” by #AliceHoffman were two of my favorite (albeit heartbreaking) literary circus/carnival reads back in 2011 and 2013. And I've recently added another interesting one to my TBR called "The Circus at the End of the Sea" by Lori Snyder (it launches from Harper Collins in fall 2021 so there's no cover yet). It’s such a cool title and I can’t wait to see what it’s all about! 🖤 ✨ Have you read any of the books in this post? The continuing tale of my favorite #womenwriters for #womenshistorymonth continues with WATER FOR ELEPHANTS by Sara Gruen. True facts, I bought this book to read before I saw the movie, which I was seeing because I had a thing for Robert Pattinson. (Christoph Waltz is also brilliant in it.) It really is one of the best book-to-movie adaptations I've seen and the book itself is amazing. Totally transports the reader to the circuses of the day 1930s in the very best way. (And Gruen mentions my hometown in passing!) Olá, meus queridos! 🤓 ⠀ A minha leitura dessa semana, foi "Água para Elefantes". Comprei esse livro já tem um bom tempo em uma promoção. ⠀ 📚É um romance, e se passa no fascinante mundo circense. Temos Jacob, um garoto de 23 anos que perde os pais e acaba pulando pra dentro de um trem em movimento, mudando o rumo de sua vida. ⠀ 📚Marlena, uma doce jovem, casada com August, um homem sem escrúpulos e um dos donos do circo "O esquadrão voador do Circo Irmãos Benzini, o Maior Espetáculo da terra". ⠀ Jacob, era um estudante de veterinária. Depois da morte dos pais, ele largou tudo e resolveu cuidar dos animais do circo. Lá, ele encontra o grande amor de sua vida, porém, ela já é casada. Além de Marlena, ele se apaixona por Rosie, a elefanta do circo. Adentramos nessa aventura, cheia de perigos, fascínio e amor. A autora, descreve com precisão esse mundo encantado do picadeiro, porém nem tudo é encanto. Além, do amor pelos animais ela nos mostra o horror causado pelo homem na vida dos pobres animais, passando por abusos dos seus donos. Rosie, é uma elefanta linda e esperta, domada com muito amor e carinho por Jacob, porém, é muito maltratada nas mãos de August. ⠀ Essa história é linda. No início a leitura é um pouco cansativa, mas, você acaba se apaixonando, não pelos mocinhos da história, e sim por Rosie, por Rex o leão banguela, Bobo o macaco, enfim, por esses animais lindos e espertos que a autora decide nos presentear. O que fica evidente pra mim nesse livro, é amor entre homem e animal e animal e homem.
