Note
The whole discourse of how sasuke and Sakura be after their spouses die is very simple. These people are married and all but you can't really expect a total erratic change in behavior after the death of their spouse. These people have spent maybe 4-5 years together in their entire existence, they've spent more time being away from each than together.
Sakura would be sad and all (sasuke was the love of her life), however, her life would go on, she's supposed to model a real life girl, she has parents, probably has cousins, uncles, aunts etc. Her best friend and her two sensei's are still very much alive and accessible. Her daughter is still alive, and she took care of her without sasuke, so she'll be fine doing so again. Her life would go on, she'll probably not get remarried but still.
For sasuke, his would very much go on too, he's lost his family before and he's still a well functioning human being, he's not going lose himself over Sakura dying let's be real. He'll be sad, but he'll go on. Maybe sarada is a problem he'll have to deal with, but sasuke would still go on his missions. He's a missions first kind of guy, ig.
I think sasuke might only lose himself a bit if Naruto died. Best friend or not, Sasuke understands what Naruto is to the world and what he represents. To sasuke, Naruto is the light that unifies the world, similar but not really to the darkness and hatred sasuke wanted to be. Sasuke knows that his loved ones are safe and secure as long as Naruto lives.
Long story short, they'll be fine. Little rant, my bad.
So you think that Sasuke would be more distraught if Naruto were to die, rather than his own wife and the mother of his child? And your reasoning is that Sasuke apparently views Naruto as the light which unifies the world, and that as long as he's alive, Sasuke's loved once are safe? Yeah I think several things during the new generation have proven that statement to be wrong. Naruto being alive, clearly hasn't meant that Sasuke's loved ones were safe and secure, and Sasuke knows this. Not to mention that Sasuke has also described Sakura as the light in his world, which is a lot more personal.
All I'll say is this - It doesn't need to be a competition, but some people really need to acknowledge the fact that just because Naruto and Sasuke were each other's closest bond during the main story, that doesn't mean that this must still be the case now over 15 years later, especially when they have families and children of their own. These things come with different priorities and responsibilities.

✩ would anyone be interested in a BORUTO REWRITE ? (follow this link to read the fic)
here are the major things i'm changing from the series to fit into a more realistic storyline ↴
first, and this is very based, but i dislike boruto's name in general. i know it's an homage to neji's name (which translates to "screw"), and don't get me wrong 'bolt' as a nickname that references both neji and minato's legacy (since the latter was known as the 'yellow flash of konoha') is awesome. but in my story, i've given the main character the name akihiro (ironically known as hiro by his peers) meaning "bright" or "shining" with this kanji variation 明弘 [in which the first one literally translates to "dawn".]
also, it'll help if you read THIS first (a post made by me and my cousin two years ago! and it's only now coming to fruition :>)
other key points where this story diverges from boruto, both in terms of plot, themes, and character dynamics:
akihiro's personality and role
akihiro is much more charismatic and endearing, resembling a "sweet-talker" type who bonds deeply with others rather than boruto’s initial rebellious and aloof nature. he embraces being naruto’s son but struggles with living up to the expectations, rather than rejecting them outright.
this adds complexity to his growth as a leader and makes him more relatable and likable to a wider range of characters.
akihiro is an only child
unlike boruto, akihiro doesn’t have a younger sibling like himawari. this shifts the family dynamic to focus more closely on his relationship with naruto and hinata, highlighting their efforts to guide him without distractions.
it makes akihiro’s journey more introspective and personal, with fewer family members diluting his arc. but this will tie into another plotpoint with sakura and sasuke's kid(s) looking up to him as an older brother figure, so he fulfills that role just as well. the reason i chose not to give him a sibling is because i'm still on the fence about giving akihiro the byakugan since it might be too cliché (but admit it, boruto's and himawari's designs would've looked pretty cool with the eerie edge of the hyuugas' pupil-less eyes). but i have no intention of making naruto pass on kurama to his kids, especially not to akihiro. so, the point of him having a sibling in the timeline where conflict arises pretty early (just after the events of akihiro's birth) is unlikely.
generation gap in konoha 9's children
the children of the original konoha 9 aren’t all the same age.
they were born across a realistic timeline based on their parents’ relationships (e.g., temari and shikamaru’s child is older than sakura and sasuke’s).
the reason for this was pretty much at face value, it just is highly unlikely that all the couples got together and fell pregnant at the same time. maybe some kids are same age but mostly spanning a five year range at minimum. this adds more diverse interactions across generations and avoids the forced "classmates" dynamic that boruto had.
right now i do have the konoha 9's kids figured out. from oldest to youngest, they are [this is during when my story starts, when akihiro is 15]:
shikadai nara (18) > chocho akimichi (17) > akihiro uzumaki (16) > inojin yamanaka (16) > shizumi nara (13) > sarada and souta uchiha (11)
stronger, more varied teammates
akihiro’s teammates are more specialized and powerful compared to boruto’s. yume kazemura, an immigrant from the land of mist with her water style and weapon specialty, and daichi hiiragi, a fire-style ninja with a less prominent earth style. akihiro himself would have wind and lightning style + hyuuga taijutsu — mostly because i wanted to divide each team in a way that balances each other out.
this team is a frontline squad, so their chakra amount and specialty is prominent. it also gives me a reason to make sasuke mentor akihiro later in the story since lightning style seems almost a precursor to space-time jutsu and no other konoha 9 member has an affinity for it.
in any case, their abilities are distinctive and critical in battles, unlike boruto’s team, which felt derivative of naruto’s team 7 and very replicated, in my opinion.
otsutsuki threat introduced as a mystery
a plot point taken from this post (which was actually made by my cousin, who is beta-reading this as we speak!), the otsutsuki threat is revealed gradually through mysterious portals, strange creatures, and sinister chakra bombs, rather than immediately presenting godlike enemies like momoshiki. the slow-burn introduction makes the otsutsuki more terrifying and allows the story to maintain a grounded tone while building tension.
the chakra bomb thing is introduced right after the events of "the last", a few months after naruto and hinata's wedding. a few konoha shinobi en route to kumo for their chunin exams (konohamaru's team being of them), come across a border villager in the land of fire who is on the brink of fever-induced delirium, somehow mid-speech just gives out an insane level of raw chakra pulsing out of his body before collapsing, dead.
the genin team leaders decide to investigate and find that an entire small village on the border was wiped out without a trace of struggle or attack. naturally, fingers are raised towards kumo who really have no clue what's going on. just when it was about to written off as an invasion by the rogue factions, another similar incident takes place in iwagakure. the land of fire and wind being the closest to it are now under fire.
then i plan on introducing a cult who are old regime supremacists (led by disciples of kaguya who were indoctrinated by black zetsu). they believe in the eradication of the non-shinobi factions, a play on the "survival of the fittest" morality. maybe i will integrate the bioengineering and technical development aspect. but it won't be nearly as advanced as the stuff introduced in the boruto universe.
by the time akihiro is 16, strange portals carrying behemoths (think chitauri from avengers, endbringers from worm or even kaiju from pacific rim) into the world open up all across the globe. each nation basically brings a standstill on managing the political uprising to secure their borders, working together to configure who is behind these attacks and where these alien creatures are coming from.
meanwhile, a kaguya cult member reveals the location of a portal leading to the moon base where a fee otsutsuki relics and shrines are found by hiro and his team. while the powerhouses are deployed to deal with the monsters, the village heads are swarmed with cases of riots, fights breaking out between borders and all in all, hostility brewing between the elemental nations.
eventually the behemoth attacks get so frequent and so far apart in distance from one another that it becomes impossible to manage them all — leading to the affected areas being vacated after entire cities are demolished.
this eventually leads to a showdown in the ruins of uzushio where the biggest behemoth shows up, alongside two otsutsuki clan members and most of the alliance is posted there for a drawn out battle.
eventually, after practically wiping the floor with the alliance, the otsutsukis leave but not without the promise of return to plant a chakra tree on earth and to clear it out of tainted blood so the trueborns can thrive in their new paradise. (since humanity right now is a mix of kaguya's blood which gives them control over chakra and human dna — basically, the otsutsuki want to cleanse the world of them and take over the chakra fountain that is earth).
political turmoil between nations
the story will include realistic international tensions among the five great nations. rogue factions, misunderstandings, and betrayals play a critical role in the otsutsuki conflict. everyone with be pointing fingers but due to an established alliance among the kages, no shinobi can act on their convictions without breaking the treaty and being ousted as a stray ninja.
this adds stakes beyond just physical battles, emphasizing the fragile peace post-shinobi war. it also involves side characters from other villages, making the world feel larger and more dynamic.
power scaling is even
the power scaling is balanced, with the konohamaru generation being significantly stronger than akihiro’s due to the chakra bomb conflict arising during their peak as chunin/jounin. while akihiro is talented, he isn’t overpowered like boruto.
battles require teamwork, strategy, and sacrifice. it will also make the older generations more battle-hardened, experienced and will give them knowledge to impart on their charges as sensei. this avoids sidelining older characters and makes fights more engaging. even lower-tier ninjas have meaningful roles (which will be even more prominent during the final battle arc).
akihiro's love interest
now, this is a topic i'm very conflicted on.
on one hand i have this incredible character planned (sayuri ayakami) with seishinkan, a kekkei genkai aligned with the spiritual power of chakra maneuvering. it affects perceptions, health and even can cause/absorb physical blows to an extent for redistribution later. it works on the basis of the very existence of the otsutsuki clan, how they manipulate space-time, dimensional and planetary jutsu.
[she's basically the non-overpowered and very much human version of eida]
akihiro has a unique romantic subplot with sayuri, a character tied to an ancient clan and her own burdens. their bond develops naturally through shared hardships and mutual growth. this romance feels organic and adds emotional stakes. while i have nothing against boruto’s dynamic with sarada, the uchiha-uzumaki thing feels a little overdone.
but this above all is a shounen series that i'm making with emphasis on action and politics in the ninja world. so, i'm not sure how romance will fly in this universe. (what do you all think?)
greater role for older characters
characters like naruto, sasuke, sakura, gaara, shikamaru, the other kages and the previous generation have pivotal roles throughout the story. they don’t fade into the background but instead serve as mentors, fighters, and emotional anchors.
especially during the stand against the monsters and managing the political uproar caused by the kaguya cult. this respects their legacy while highlighting the generational transition, something boruto struggles with.
a new way to beat the otsutsuki
like i said, many characters will play different yet very important role in building up to and even during the final stand against the all-powerful otsutsuki.
minor characters and even less power shinobi from the alliances collectively will help in taking down the enemies bit by bit. humanity’s triumph over the otsutsuki wouldn't rely solely on godlike powers or specific individuals like boruto and kawaki. instead, it will involve strategies and unique abilities from many characters, such as sayuri’s seishinkan severing dimensional ties.
this makes the victory feel earned by everyone, not just a chosen few, and emphasizes teamwork and innovation over brute strength.
sasuke's absence from konoha has a real reason
sasuke’s absence is explained by his investigation of the chakra bomb incidents as he is made to be the prime coordinator of the anbu of konoha and usually the first to respond to impacted locations on short notice due to his rinnegan prowess. it's not just due vague wanderings that's he's not with his family. his return then carries significant weight.
it gives sasuke a clear purpose and enhances his arc while tying into the main story. it also builds on how sarada and souta's dynamics are, and how each twin copes with their dad not being present and mom being busy with her obligations.
this is one of the reasons why they look up to akihiro that much more because akihiro with his natural charm, abilities and ties to the hokage is somewhat popular amount his peers. despite this, he is welcoming towards the uchiha twins and takes them under his wing, sticking up for them and not letting them be turned into social pariahs.
sayuri's seishinkan and her clan
sayuri's seishinkan is a unique spiritual kekkei genkai, not a derivative of the byakugan or sharingan. her clan’s history ties into the otsutsuki invasion and ancient conflicts. this avoids redundancy in bloodline abilities while adding depth to the lore.
villains across all tiers
the otsutsuki threat isn’t limited to godlike figures. generals, zetsu-like soldiers, and mutated creatures provide challenges for all levels of ninja. this ensures that even lower-ranked ninjas and civilians play meaningful roles, unlike in boruto where only top-tier fighters matter.
the pacing of the story
the story spans akihiro’s growth from age 16 to 19, with major arcs that focus on mystery, politics, and personal relationships. the pacing is deliberate, allowing for more character development and emotional moments. this approach feels more cohesive and satisfying compared to boruto’s often disjointed plotlines.
this rewrite creates a more balanced, grounded, and emotionally resonant narrative compared to boruto. it respects the legacy of naruto’s generation, develops a new generation with their own unique abilities and struggles, and introduces the otsutsuki as a nuanced, terrifying threat that can’t simply be punched away.
— NOTES. again, this is simply my take on the poorly faring sequel to naruto, a franchise that deserves to be hailed for it's dynamic worldbuilding and major contribution into shaping what shounen has become today.
if you want me to go in-depth about any of the plot points, feel free to ask in my askbox or comments. i want to start writing this as soon as possible and the more input i get from fellow fans of this universe, the better the end result will be.

consanguinity is a given for dojutsu clans like the uchiha where it is implied in canon that cousins marry into each other’s sides of the families. sasuke and itachi seem to be products of this sort of cousin unions, but the question is how closely blood related must these uchihas be to be married?
which takes me to the hyuuga clan. in my naruto rewrite fic, i was thinking of ways how dojutsu clans may function & what the key differences are between the only two we’ve seen on the series: the uchiha and the hyuuga. the uchiha seem to be more genetically diverse based on glimpses we see of both pre-series and naruto-era relatives. black hair, black eyes, and very pale skin are markers of an uchiha though others don’t necessarily have the same phenotype.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but the hyuuga? i can’t think of a member of that family, main or cadet branches, who deviates from the hyuuga look (byakugan, fair skin, dark hair) other than boruto and himawari, who are both first-generation half uzumaki children.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
that makes me wonder: is the genetic trait for the byakugan a lot more recessive than the sharingan? after all, a hyuuga is born with the byakugan (aside from boruto and himawari who have to activate them & only their mother is a hyuuga.) meanwhile, the sharingan is meant to be activated later in life regardless if you have two uchiha parents like sasuke or only one uchiha parent like sarada. the protectiveness of the hyuuga over the byakugan makes me wonder if it’s more than just safeguarding bloodline limits but also as a way to actually preserve them as bloodline limits. if the gene for the byakugan is always as recessive as it seems on boruto, then it would be key to keep it in the family. aka consanguinity.
that would lead to a lot more cousin matches than the uchiha. matches that are, compared to mikoto and fugaku, between much more closely related cousins. especially with the way the hyuuga family caste system is played out, i can’t imagine minor relatives far removed from the main family could marry their way into the latter, thus making cosanguinous marriages within the hyuuga most likely between first cousins only. and i think the reason why neji and hinata were NOT betrothed as soon as they were born was because their fathers were (presumably) identical twins, making them biologically half siblings rather than cousins. it’s too close a match, even for the hyuuga clan.

i’m thinking about how devastating it must have been for shikadai to find out that boruto cheated in the exams.
put yourself in his shoes.
there’s already a lot of pressure— everyone is watching, this is broadcast on international television, family from out of town is here, everyone knows who your parents are, both your parents were promoted quickly so you’re projected to follow in their footsteps— and on top of that, literally anything is possible at the exams. underdogs rise, prodigies fall, nations attack, some competitors find new friends or rivals or enemies, and yet some find love. that’s the epic love story you grew up hearing about your parents. there’s no telling who you’ll fight today or how they’ll fit into your story. and maybe those thoughts briefly surface as your first competitor steps into the ring, a feisty blonde from suna, and it almost seems as if history might repeat itself. but maybe that last thought never occurs at all because you’re already weighted with the other pressures and you’re in the zone because you have to win.
and then in the next round you’re set to battle one of your best friends. coincidentally, the hokage’s son. there are already minor political implications if you beat him, but you’ve been advised to fight with everything you’ve got, and you’re determined to do so. whether that’s good enough to win or not, you can say it was your best effort. besides, what’s a fair fight between friends?
and then, ironically, history does repeat itself as you forfeit like your father. you pulled out all the stops and really put on an impressive display of skill, but at the end of the day boruto is still stronger. you’ve heard your father speak of his friendship and professional relationship with naruto, and though it’s never been explicitly said, you understand that being friends with boruto means your relationship will mirror that of your fathers. you have a responsibility as boruto’s friend to maintain an implicit level of trust and use that bond to keep his head screwed on. all that so he can do things his way, which would be so much more of a drag if boruto’s way weren’t so mesmerizing. every word teems with authentic conviction and heart, and he’s so damn inspiring that, yeah, if boruto continuing to make the world a better place means shouldering some extra responsibility, you’ll do that. because that’s what friends do for each other.
and then in his moment of triumph, when you could not be any more proud of your unconventional but unfathomably brilliant best friend, you find out he won by cheating.
and this glorious moment is forever stained as your stomach drops and the vision shatters and you realize that everything today could have been— a meeting with someone extraordinary for the first time, a chance to truly fight your weird cousin, a hard-won promotion to make mom and dad proud and stick it to the cranky clan elders, a level-up in missions for your team— was ruined by your best friend.
surely boruto wouldn’t do that to you. then again, he did it to sarada. are you and he closer than he and sarada? regardless, would he have the nerve to betray you?
and when you finally get the chance to tearfully face him and ask upfront if he cheated during your fight, he won’t even clearly answer you.
and in a cruel twist of fate history repeats itself again, and like your father you are the sole candidate promoted. a tainted honor granted in memory of a victory you didn’t secure. and now that stupid vest collects dust in your bedroom because the only way to reshape its connotation in your head is to debut it once the rest of your team has earned theirs, and your annoying old relatives ask every day why you don’t wear the damn vest, and there are so many more important things going on in the village but that is all anyone is worried about as far as you’re concerned. you could have gone into politics like the elders wanted and avoided this altogether. but you wanted to be a shinobi. you’ve made your bed and now you must lie in it.
and time heals your wounds, and that deep trust is slowly rebuilt, and of course you eventually dust off your vest and zip it on for the first time, but you can never really look at boruto the same way.

A bit of old for the brand new you
So I ended up devouring My Happy Marriage (the anime) in like a few hours. I can't find the OVA anywhere so there aren't that many mentions to it in this. But Izumi is teaching Hinata instead of Itachi taking the sister role and from my watching of it, the cousin was more focused on his role in the family and what it meant to him rather than the person he was supposed to be watching over's happiness, since it was her grandfather who ended up letting her know what happened to her fiancee, unless I somehow remembered that wrong. Anyway, all that to say, we got this. Enjoy.
@sasuhinamonth
Beginnings & Ends | Inicios y Finales
New & Old | Nuevo y Viejo
Days at the Special Anti-Grotesquerie Unit were quite after Burial Grounds case and the actions of the former Emperor. Emperor Sai had sent apology after apology for his father’s actions, even after giving them in person to Hinata. The expensive gifts were kindly accepted but Hinata had a hard enough time accepting gifts from him, her fiancée. Accepting gifts from the emperor made her head spin.
Sasuke couldn’t complain about the Emperor taking it upon himself to clean up the mess his father made. It meant all he had to do was finish his paperwork, train the recruits, attend meetings and he’d finally be allowed to leave to meet Hinata in time for dinner.
“Hey Sasuke!”
Looking up through his eyebrows, he glared as Naruto burst into the room, the damned annoying smile on his face. It dropped once he saw he was being glared out and let out an awkward chuckle when he realised, he went too far.
“I have someone to see you.” he moved out of the way, and Sasuke felt his glare drop at the sight of blue highlighted hair and lavender eyes.
“Hinata.” He said, standing up and moving around the desk as Hinata ducked her head as she walked in, Naruto shooting a teasing look as he closed the door behind her. “I thought you had lessons with Izumi.”
“Shizune had to leave early before her vacation and we ended up making, well…” she lifted a covered bento box, slightly larger than she’d normally bring him. “We went a little overboard. I thought since Izumi is heading back home to check in with Sarada and your family, we wouldn’t be able to finish everything before it went bad. I wasn’t sure when you’d be home…I hope it’s no trouble.”
He gave his fiancée a soft smile. she was the only one who could make him smile like this. “Of course not. I’m so happy to see you. you got here safely?”
Hinata nodded. “Shisui drove me. He still doesn’t trust Neji-nii-san.”
To be fair, Sasuke didn’t trust him either. Hinata’s grandfather was the one to let Hinata leave the Hyuuga compound. If it had been up to Neji, she’d still be there, better without the assault of her own powers, but alone. Sasuke disliked him more when Hinata mentioned Neji considered himself to be the one Hinata was supposed to marry if the Hyuuga’s kept with tradition. He was getting really annoyed with so many people just assuming he and Hinata were people who could be picked apart and separated. The only one he wanted was Hinata. He thought the fact that he destroyed the Otsutsuki home was proof of what would happen to those who separated them without Hinata saying it was what she wanted.
“Have you eaten yet? we can share. Shisui would appreciate the time on the training ground.”
Hinata’s cheeks flushed as she nodded. “I’d love to.”
After sending Naruto to look after the recruits’ and warning Shisui to not break most of them in practise, he lead Hinata to the back of the building. There was a small garden, mainly to give everyone a place to take a break since they couldn’t leave the compound while on duty unless instructed. There wasn’t a cherry blossom tree like the one Hinata’s grandfather sent to be planted on their property - a sapling from the one on the Hyuuga compound – but Hinata smiled up at the weeping willow. A bench behind the branches was their seating place and Sasuke couldn’t help but smile at the fact that Hinata moved close to him. She was still as shy as ever, but as their bond deepened and they became more open with each other, she was the one to start inciting the touches.
God, he revelled in being the one lucky to accept those touches.
“We only have one pair of chopsticks.” She realised.
“Then I guess I’ll have to feed you.”
The blush on her face was worth it. Hinata insisted to be the one to feed him, telling him about her day with the cooking and cleaning fest she and Shizune got into with the old housekeeper about to leave for the week, how Izumi came by to give her homework for learning how to be the wife of the head of a house, how her grandfather came by with books about the Hyuuga Clan, offers to take Neji back still on his lips. Tempting as it was to get Sasuke to insist, she say yes, fact of the matter was, whenever Hinata forgot her protective charm, she was safe with Neji around. He might not like her cousin, but at least he was good at his job.
“I don’t know what to do with all my free time.” Hinata said, feeding Sasuke the last tomato from the salad.
“You could go shopping.” Sasuke suggested, knowing the answer to that already.
“Oh, I couldn’t! with what the Emperor sent us, there’s no need!”
While Sasuke was happy Hinata wasn’t like the other possible brides who wanted to spend all his money, he wished Hinata would just spoil herself sometimes. Considering the mess their life had been not that long ago, he just wanted her to buy something as a gift to herself.
As Hinata took her last bite of food, Sasuke noticed there was a slight tear in the kimono she was wearing. It was the one she wore the most, so it wasn’t surprising. He was about to bring it up when he remembered her first few days at the house, how she spent time inside her room just sewing the tears in the only kimono’s she had before Sasuke could get her new ones. She’d just spend the time fixing the tears instead of considering buying something new.
“I have a day off coming up, how about you try and finish Izumi’s homework tomorrow and we can spend the day together.” he suggested. He was sure he’d be forgiven the small lie, assuming he didn’t bump into Neji would go blabbing the second he could.
That’s when it hit him, the idea. He just hoped it worked out.
________________________________
“Lord Uchiha. It’s a pleasure to see you again. What can I do for you?” Hinata’s grandfather asked.
Sasuke nodded to the maid who put down the cups of tea before she bowed and left the room. “I have a favour to ask, if that’s all right.”
“Is Hinata alright?”
“She’s fine. it’s for her actually. I’m sure you know that Hinata takes gifts she’s been given very carefully.”
Her grandfather nodded. “Yes. It did pain me to keep her kimono away from her. The cherry blossom one, it was a gift from you, yes?”
“It was the one that kept drawing her attention when we went to the shop yes. I know now it was because it reminded her of her mother’s tree. She lost so much of her mother; I know she treasures anything of hers she can keep. I know after Hinata’s mother married her father, you cut off contact. I’m just curious if you got rid of anything belonging to her.”
Hinata’s grandfather seemed surprised by the question. “I’ll admit I was tempted, but no. there somewhere in storage, but they were items that didn’t fit her anymore. Did you want to give them to Hinata?”
Sasuke nodded. “when she first moved in to the house, she spent time in her room just mending her kimonos. Other woman wouldn’t have done that and as a result, she won’t ask for anything new. One of the kimonos I had gotten her has a rip in it and instead of getting her a new one she won’t ask for, I thought perhaps she’d prefer something her mother owned.”
Hinata’s grandfather smiled at him. “I hope you know, the only reason I disapproved of you was because of your family’s strength and what it would mean when the two of you would give me great grandchildren. I’m sure Hinata’s mother would approve of you.”
_____________________
“Hinata?”
Lavender eyes looked up at him as she finished gathering the dirty items from breakfast. He’d been later than usual because he needed to sneak into Hinata’s room, but he distracted her questions by asking where she wanted to go on their outing.
“In your bedroom, I left something for you. if you’d like, I’d love to see you in it.”
Hinata looked surprised but nodded none the less. He got dressed and waited in the genkan for Hinata, keeping himself busy by trying to tie the kumihimo tightly in his hair. Hinata was better at him than he was and as much as he enjoyed the tradition of Hinata tying it for him, he wanted to see her in the kimono more.
Soft footsteps signalled his fiancée’s approach and he turned, ready to ask if she like it, stopping when he spotted her glassy eyes.
“Hinata?”
“They’re happy tears.” She said wiping her eyes. “I saw this, in a photo in the room I stayed in at the Hyuuga mansion. I never, I…how did you do this?”
Using his own fingers to wipe away the tears, Sasuke took in the pink Gentiana flowers against the purple fabric. While the cherry blossoms had a special meaning to Hinata, he preferred her in the purple of this kimono. “I asked your grandfather if there were any old kimonos of your mother. I know you didn’t get the chance to wear the ones your mother brought with her or bought because of your stepmother. You had a tear in the kimono you wore when you came to visit me at work. You have such a hard time accepting gifts, I thought you couldn’t say no to this one.”
She laughed, sending his heart into a spin. “I love it. thank you.” she brushed away her tears, flattening her bangs and smiling up at him. “I’m ready. Shall we?”
He was curious to know how she’d react when she found out there were more kimonos of her mother’s they’d been able to find. Oh well, more chances to get her to accept gifts.

tadaima
sharing my piece for @sasusakubpzine which i'm so grateful to have been selected for. we are holding leftover sales so get a copy now if you haven't yet! 🛒-> https://t.co/DM3t6gqkDo
“Tadaima!”
Sasuke heard this greeting many times when they were kids. After classes, after missions, after errands. Everyone had families to come home to. Only Sakura had this privilege in their team, her parents still alive, but never once did he catch her uttering it.
He envied her regardless. However casual and mundane the word was to her, he craved to use it. Maybe letters strung together could bring back his dead.
But it was Sakura, his anchor after the war, who made it possible again. “Tadaima.”
And today, he’ll hear her say it to her family.
Only that, she isn’t herself. He sees her plant a longer kiss on Sarada’s forehead and feels her squeeze his arm a little tighter, signs of her anxiety bursting to the brim.
“We can go another time.”
Sakura shakes her head and grins her way out of his silent prodding. “Let’s take advantage of this while we can. A complete family. I can show them that.”
A complete family. Sasuke always thought Sakura had it easy, but not all families mean home.
Sasuke hears the Harunos before he sees them. Their noise is as loud as their eclectic hair styles and colors, but they quiet down when they register their arrival. The grand entrance ends on a neutral note when Sakura beckons him to the empty seats beside her parents at the center table. Hot seats.
Kizashi and Mebuki manage lukewarm nods towards the three of them. Not so much as a kiss or hug for Sakura or an awed expression for Sarada inside her baby wrap. Sasuke doesn’t know which of the two irks him more.
The luncheon goes well for the first half. Everyone keeps to their little conversations. The meat is a little too hard and the broth a little too rich, but nothing out of ordinary. Perhaps it’s the food coma that makes some cousins plant their attention on them.
“Did you learn love potions at that ninja academy?” Eyeliner Guy asks. “Couldn’t think of any other way.”
Sakura smiles. “No, but I'm an expert with poisons.”
The death threat flies over their heads.
“You probably baby-trapped him, no?” Thick Lipstick side-eyes him. “What a catch.”
Sasuke tries to smile, if only for his wife’s sake, but his annoyance seeps through his reply. “Great theories, but we actually met at the academy, fell in love later on, and got married. Contrary to what you think, Sakura is quite the catch.” He takes a sip of his now-cold tea. “I’m sure you’ll find someone in your forties. Don’t lose hope.”
Sakura almost chokes on her dango. “She’s in her twenties, Sasuke,” she chastises under her breath.
“Such a shame we didn’t see your marriage registry. We tried to find it, you know,” Green Mohawk smacks his lips, “for fun.”
“We got married outside the village, but we appreciate your effort.” He hopes his cold tone diffuses their burning curiosity, bordering on assault.
Some old people gravitate towards their seats upon hearing this. “We heard you came from traveling.”
“Ah, yes, the Land of Flowers was so beautiful.” Sakura tries to turn the conversation light, but no one takes her bait.
“Wasn’t that too dangerous during your pregnancy?” Paper Fan Grandma asks.
“You should’ve been more careful, Sakura,” Mebuki chastises, “And you should’ve known better, boy.”
“It’s Sasuke,” Sakura butts in, “And Mom, I’m a doctor. I can take care of myself.”
Mebuki not remembering his name doesn’t bother him as much as her occupation escaping them.
“So what’s your work, Sasuke?” Cigarette Smoking Uncle asks.
Sasuke has half a mind to use amaterasu on the nicotine stick. “I have duties beyond the borders of the village.”
“Ah, you’re always traveling then?” Paper Fan Grandma loves to gasp a lot.
“You could put it like that.”
“And you leave her? With a baby?”
“Sakura is very important in the village. She’s the hospital director.”
The three cousins sneer loudly at this while the older group does not feign their disappointment and tut-tuts. Sakura’s grip on his thigh tightens.
“This is why I keep telling her to focus on being a housewife,” Mebuki tells her husband as if Sakura is not in front of them. “The horrors of being a single mom! Did you hear what happened to Ayako? In debt and cheated on!”
Sakura is a strong woman.
She never backs out from a fight or cowers in fear. She faces all her battles head-on. She has grown out of the shells of her childhood and adolescence and into these beautiful myriad of forms: a healer, a soldier, a mother, a wife.
“I can balance my work —”
But this Sakura’s voice wavers and he sees how one of Konoha’s pillars regresses into an insecure girl who only wants her family to see her, know her, and accept her.
Kizashi scoffs. “Sakura, do you know how hard it was to raise you? Your mother and I lost count of the sleepless nights we had because you wanted to become a ninja.”
Green Mohawk adds, “Bad decision. You’re lucky you came back in one piece.” He throws an apologetic look at Sasuke’s lost arm.
Arthritic Grandpa points his cane at Sarada. “A child with two nin parents? Preposterous. Ninjas don’t grow well. They become orphans.”
Sakura stiffens beside Sasuke. He offers her his hand which she clasps in support, but really, it was just to stop her from springing when he says his piece, “Then I’m glad Sakura grew up okay despite being related to you. Clearly, you didn’t know her capabilities– or you only pretended to.”
A look of shock passes through their faces. Sarada takes the momentary silence to wiggle out of her baby wrap and onto Sakura’s lap. She squeezes her Mama’s cheeks, a gentle gesture of, Don’t worry Mama. I love you.
The manager of the restaurant also swoops into the awkward exchange by bringing the bill and a blank paper. “It’s a pleasure to have you dine with us, Dr. Uchiha. You saved my sister in an invasion once, but you probably don’t remember it anymore.”
Sasuke silently thanks the man for reminding Sakura what she is, what she has become.
Sakura smiles. Finding her footing, she quickly gives her autograph “for display” and nods to Sasuke. At this cue, he gives the manager a wad of cash and ushers his family out of the restaurant without so much of a goodbye to anyone else.
"I think I made a good impression." Sasuke breaks the silence as they enter their home.
Sakura's shoulders — broad, strong, dependable — tremble. But it's only laughter she can't contain.
"You sure did." A soft grumble passes between them and she erupts in louder chuckles. "Can't believe I paid for food I haven't eaten. I'm so hungry."
As they enter the kitchen, his shoulders rub hers, another language meant to hold her hand. "Great timing then."
“Okaerinasai!” Kakashi, Iruka, and Yamato, caliber soldiers, rightfully feared, don brightly-patterned aprons as they rambunctiously navigate a foreign space. Clutter decorates the countertops, and different, appetizing smells permeate the corners.
It smells like home.
Sasuke watches Sakura’s face light up at the chaotic sight.
Sarada is quickly lifted off Sasuke's embrace into the cradle made by three pairs of arms, and her greeting involves biting the cheeks of her uncles — her attempt at a kiss.
"No fair, Yamato. Don't turn your cheeks into wood!" Iruka bursts out. "It's painful for Sara— ow!"
"You forget she's Sakura's daughter." Yamato massages the flushed red side of his cheek where thick gums and milk teeth had clamped down hard.
Kakashi heeds fair warnings. "Now Sara-chan, why don't I kiss you instead?" But the toddler has other plans as stubby fingers pull down his mask.
“Now don’t hog my goddaughter like that.” The three house-nins part for Tsunade whose arms are already open for Sakura. “How’s my best student?”
Where no one touched her earlier, here she is received. In laughter, in pats, in hugs. Casual, mundane things that tell of love.
It feels like home.
“I didn’t invite you.” Sasuke notices the two empty sake bottles on the sink. “But I see you’ve already made yourself welcome.”
“Kakashi said this is my homecoming. Besides, you rarely play host.” Tsunade shrugs, her  innocence quickly morphing into slyness. “Why don’t we play cards?”
Another bottle to the mix and a relocation to the patio later, the fifth hokage finds herself losing with an expectant audience.
"Sakura, sit next to your shishou.”
"Sakura, no."
A student still obeys her master, and like clockwork, a gust of wind loosens her top. Sasuke grimaces at the distraction.
"Aha. I win!" Tsunade puts down her hand. "See, Sakura, you're always my lucky charm."
“Don’t tell me you didn’t see that coming?” Iruka jests.
“I recommend Icha-Icha’s Education Against Seduction.” Kakashi pulls a book out of his apron to give to his former student, but Yamato’s the first one to flip through the pages.
Annoyed, Sasuke turns to a half-flustered, half-laughing Sakura. “She cheated. Again. How did she even become your teacher?”
“How did you even become her husband?” Tsunade rolls her eyes. “I bet Orochimaru taught you love potions. Why would the most beautiful kunoichi even marry you?”
“She has the best chakra control,” Kakashi pipes, “I bet Sakura can beat your genjutsu now.”
“Monstrous strength for a doctor.” A specific memory sends shivers to Yamato’s spine. “Don’t let her fix your bones while conscious.”
A consensus runs through the group which stops Sakura’s laughter. “Are these supposed to be compliments? Why do I feel offended?”
Inside her crib, Sarada giggles. Iruka leans down to her and whispers in acquiescence, “I know. She’s a loving mother too. You’re gonna grow up fine, Sara-chan.”
Sasuke trains his sight on Sakura whose face is painted in happiness. There is nothing to prove, nothing to say, nothing to do. She is seen for what she is, all the sides and parts of her that make her her: a student, a doctor, a wife, a mother.
A loud bang interrupts the scene, followed by a powerful rush of chakra.
"Good evening, constituents!" Clad in his hokage robes, Naruto commits to his ceremonious entrance. Only Sarada spares him attention with a delighted cooo-caaa.
"Did you bring it?" Tsunade drawls over her words. Already too drunk to balance, she is leaning against Yamato, who looks like a still painting in front of the fire.
Naruto presents another bottle of sake to the group with a flourish. "Of course, old woman!" Despite his desire to hold off on additional liquor, Sasuke accepts the gift.
The bottle, emptied after making several rounds in the group, now lies under Sakura's feet. The crowded bench trickled down to the three of them, the rest having already found abode on living room futons, limbs all splayed out and tangled like close friends under the warmth of the covers, with Sarada at the center of them all.
In the dark, Sakura's shoulders are hunched, free of the tension that hounded her this morning. The fading embers dance in her jade eyes.
"It had been a long time since we gathered like this." Her words trail smoke in the wintry air. "Too bad Sai had Yamanaka duties."
Naruto chuckles. "He missed a rare sighting of dancer Yamato."
"With deadpan expressions to boot."
Both of them turn to Sasuke at the same time and laughter spills out.
"No, I’m not drunk." Sasuke holds up his sole hand at the wordless prompting, but he puts it down quickly when his world starts spinning out of orbit. Yep, he’s drunk.
"You're no fun." Naruto sticks out his chin in defiance. "Why don't we play a game?"
Sakura claps in agreement. She somehow salvaged a third of the wine's content from their teachers for their drinking game.
"Take a shot if you did this," Sakura grins too widely. "Never have I ever failed a subject in the academy."
The boys clink their glasses and drink. Alcohol tastes like water when you get used to it.
"What? Sasuke failed?" Sakura's pitch climbs a bit higher.
It's an embarrassing admission, "I hated History." Sasuke wonders if his path of revenge would have taken a different trajectory if he had paid more attention. "Never have I ever failed a practical."
"What are these non-controversial questions?" Naruto snorts and empties his glass. Sakura smugly follows suit. "The know-it-all shows himself."
Sasuke shrugs, grateful to be spared from this round, because my god, I can't feel my legs. To be fair, he's doing a good job pretending he's fine. How is Naruto holding up so well?
"Okay, last question, and I have to go home to Hinata." Naruto swirls the remaining contents of the bottle. Probably good for only two shots.
"Hmm," Sasuke sees him rack his brain for more scandalous questions, but it's the one he picks that sears his insides. "Never have I ever fallen in love with a teammate while we were genin!"
“I hate you! That’s not how it works!”
“I’m too drunk to think of anything else!”
Sasuke swipes the bottle away from their reaching hands and swigs it into his mouth. He hopes it numbs down these butterflies and palpitations and somersaults that time traveled when he tried to touch her rosette strands as she scribbled furiously during History class.
"Sasuke-kun? You switched up the rules. You’re supposed to drink when it’s true.”
Sakura turns to Naruto, usually competitive, but has no protestations on this development.
“But it’s true.” The bottle goes round and round in his hand. “I liked Sakura back then,” he sighs his confession into the open, this secret no longer his own.
“No way.”
“I wasn’t just as loud about it.” Sasuke takes another swig, forgetting it’s empty, and the bottle comes loose in his fingers. “It actually faded you know,” he adds a dash of nonchalance, but Sakura, as she always does, sees through him.
“It’s true, Sakura-chan,” Naruto echoes, “Or maybe his definition of like is ‘the only girl he can tolerate’.” That earns him a good old slap on the back of the head.
They’re twelve again, struggling to be teammates, bickering at every conversation, and building bonds Sasuke thought he could fray.
This is family.
“Stop smiling.”
“I can’t stop.”
“You’re as annoying as you were then.”
“What was the occasion?” The question hangs in the silence of midnight as she settles on her side of the bed. Sasuke adjusts his body to her presence, accommodating her curling limbs, like fitting two puzzle pieces.
“Nothing. I told them I missed them,” he lies.
Sakura needs her family, that was the message. She needs her home.
His fingers intertwine with the strands he liked, strands he loves. Underneath his skin, he feels her let go of wakefulness, dreams already waiting to claim her.
A murmur, a prayer, as she leaves the day, “Tadaima.”
FIN.
Thanks for reading!

Brief Description:
Shoto has long black hair and pale lavender, almost white eyes.
He is the eldest child of Chihiro Osaka and Neji Hyuga and their only son. Due to him inheriting the Byakugan instead of the Osaka Shapeshifting Kekkei Genkai, he was deemed an unfit heir for Chihiro. This caused the Hyuga elders to demand that he be branded with the curse mark of the Hyuga clan due to him being the offspring of a branch member. Their orders caused huge friction between the two clans, with Chihiro standing firm that he would never be branded like his father and grandfather before him. In the end, Hanabi, the heiress of the Hyuga's main branch, offered to appoint him as her heir, protecting him from the Hyuga elders. He now trains with her to become the head of the Hyuga Clan one day, but still lives with his parents and sister at the Osaka Estate.
Shoto is intelligent and clever, and can easily read situations to better respond to them. He does, however, have a tendency to hide his emotions and will keep his own thoughts to himself, as he fears causing trouble (aka he's a bit of a people pleaser).

Seriously who are these people who ship Borusara? 🤣 Boruto literally sees Sarada as a Cousin, nothing more. These people should remember Boruto is the Captain of anti Borusara ship. 😂
Exactly Sarada has never been someone he pictures himself with. Even Sarada denied she looked Boruto.

I swear, it would've been easier for Kishi to just have Karin be Sarada's biological mother — myopia being hereditary from an immediate family member is one of the biggest telling signs; two of my cousins have bad eyesight and they got it from their dad/my uncle — and, for gods sakes, Karin still has the umbilical cord after all these years — and, I don't know, maybe Karin thought Sarada would have a better life being with Sakura in Konoha (and maybe she assumed Sasuke would return with Sarada to Konoha) than with her in Orochimaru's hideouts. Something, anything, instead of making Sarada a SasuSaku baby. Because, based purely on genetics and biology, Sasuke and the entire Uchiha clan (before they basically became extinct) never had myopia, and Sakura and her non-canon parents (per the famous 2014 post-manga interview with Kobayashi, Kishi deliberately made Sakura's parents not canon because he hates her and Japanese fangirls told him they hate her) also do not have myopia. Based on just that alone, logically, it makes so much more sense for Sarada to be a SasuKarin baby, because Karin has myopia and, lo and behold, so does Sarada. That's not even getting into how Sarada literally looks nothing like Sakura, yet even without her glasses on, she looks like a SasuKarin baby.
And then, IIRC, since it's been so long since I last watched the Boruto anime, Karin and Sarada have met at least once, and their interactions that one time felt far more organic and natural and loving than any of Sakura and Sarada's conversations put together.
Then, as you and I and many others have stated, Kishi has made it clear, post-manga, how much he doesn't like Sakura and how he treats her as just some side chick who was created solely to be a failed love interest after NaruHina was created. Why bother putting SS together when he clearly doesn't like Sakura, and he consistently shows Sasuke to be miserable around her and Sarada and/or deliberately keeps him away from them? How does Kishi go from consistently giving NH a lot of positive development (as a few anons pointed out recently: even as early as Chapter 42, Naruto admitted to himself that he acts like a big shot in front of Hinata — bear in mind that this was way before Chapters 77, 80-81, and 98-105) to, well, the way he consistently drags SSS into the mud with all that negative development?
I totally went on a swerve there, sorry, I just had a lot to get off my chest 😅💁🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️
No you right.
Someone needs to tell Kishimoto to stop forcing Sakura to be Naruto’s Bulma, she’s not.
He purely wanted that SSS family because it would look off (at least to him) if just the boys had kids plus it would put her in the same place as Tsunade in a more pathetic way (because at least Tsunade was loved, her lover was just killed in battle. They could’ve very well had kids had he not died.) rather than have her surpass her master (Naruto had love and family unlike Jiraiya and with Sarada, Sasuke would be rebuilding his clan and turning good).
Kishimoto wants so bad to make Sakura the new Bulma except he has no heart in her. Bulma is an actual useful character. She was boy crazy but she left that to her teen years and she didn’t put up with men disrespecting her like Sasuke did to Sakura and look what happened, Vegeta kisses the ground she walks on now and they have a second child. Vegeta even quit training to be with Bulma for the birth of their daughter while Sasuke wasn’t even busy and he never came in for a birthday.

EPILOGUE
Ten years passed, ten years since Sarada met her father, and her paternal family. Ten years since she began to live with her parents and know what it was like to live as a family. During those ten years Sarada became almost an expert in the medicinal arts, since Tsunade continued to teach her, as did Sakura. On the other hand, she continued visiting her grandparents, where she began to have a closer relationship with her cousins and her paternal family. But during those 10 years there were many changes in her life.

Once known as "unknown baby Bheeda" - Sarada is now a grown woman in her own apartment. Working as a yoga teacher and overall health coach, she loves her city and her friends!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sarada Bheeda
It's not as if she can actually afford this apartment all on her own. No, it's own by the company she works for; the health company run by Penny Pizzazz and her husband.
Sarada loves her job and lifestyle. She gets to meet so many people and help so many people. And as she has always been loyal to the company and truly share their values, she gets to hang with Penny personally. So tonight, she's headed there for a party!
Otherwise, Sarada likes to go out with friends. She always find Shannon to be a lot of fun, and her cousin too. Although she just can't understand why Shannon used to date Sarada's brother... And oh, maybe she should call Kodjo too? See if he wants to meet up at the art center tomorrow?
But now, time to get ready for the evening. Who knows who she'll meet there?

The worst thing I've ever seen made in this fanbase Naruto romance policts and the uchiha problem on fanfiction net
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Accusing Sarada a 15 old of fascism Calling anyone related to Naruto a fascist accusing the senju clan and anyone's related to them fascist claiming the senju clan was openly atagonzing the uchiha clan when that not true
Are they serious no clan in the warring states are innocent while senjus and uzumakis killed uchihas it's same the other way around the uzumakis being senjus allies would have had some members killed by the uchiha as well the senjus and infact it was indra who attacked his younger brother ashura and tought his kids to hate there own cousins so.in reality it's uchiha clan ancestors who atagonized and attacked the senju clan ancestors first
What is with fanbase trying villanize senju clan and make them them out to be the bad guys
They don't understand the hokage considers everybody in the village family I comes from ashura ideology of love and coporation leads to peace so when madara attacked the village he was essentially attacking family he was putting the people of the village why cant they understand that when hashirama naruto itachi talk about the vilage they are not talking qabout the state they are talking about the people in the vilage
I don't know what they're talking about, goodness gracious. It's a story for 12 years olds, it's really not that deep.
