A K-Pop Fan’s A*Teens Appreciation Post
I always love K-pop idols with all my heart but there are times that I need to broaden my music preferences. I have some songs of Little Mix, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, Boyzone & Westlife (all of them from Europe, specifically in Britain & Ireland) in my phone.
Enter A*Teens, a Swedish pop group who debuted in 1998 (yes, my birth year). Though I didn’t stan them or heard about them when I was a kid during their heydays. But I take a risk in discovering artists that is unfamiliar to me now that I’m 18 & Spotify & YouTube exists
Tumblr media
Back in the elementary days, my dad will always play Abba’s music & somehow have a LSS though I was born decades after Abba’s heyday.
A*Teens started as a tribute/cover group of Abba. Their debut album “The Abba Generation” contains covers of the legendary quartet with contemporary beats market the young audience
To identify A*Teens members is really really easy... there are 2 guys & 2 girls. Plus they have the Blonde line (Dhani & Marie) & the Eurasian line (Amit & Sara)
Tumblr media
Fetus A*Teens #Adorable #Candid
Let’s learn the members (& their equivalent Abba counterpart & modern day Kpop idols positions based on their live performances) :
Tumblr media
Marie Serneholt is the oldest, lead vocalist & “Anni-Frid” (the redhead of Abba). You can identify her with her blonde hair (tho she ditched her signature blonde hair post A*Teens).
Tumblr media
Amit Sebastian Paul is the hyung, main dancer (his dance skills are no joke), sub vocalist, meme king (because of his awkward expressions in their early music videos) & “Benny” (the keyboardist of ABBA, oh, he can play piano also). He is a half-Swedish, half-Indian & identified with his dark hair. During his days as a member of A*Teens, he always have the fewest lines (you’re not the only one Sungyeol)  but not in “I Promised Myself” because the boys got the most lines.
Tumblr media
Dhani Lennevald is the sub vocalist, lead dancer, visual & “Bjorn” (the guitarist). He is the tallest & the blonde guy. Just like Amit,he always got the fewest lines but he is the first in line distribution ranking in “Floor Filler” & “I Promised Myself”. He is also the sexy member of the group (post A*Teens, he dabbled in modelling). He can also play guitar.
Tumblr media
Sara Helena Lumholdt is the maknae, main vocalist & “Agnetha” (the blonde... how ironic). She is the smol member but has a big voice. Even at her young age, her charisma is really evident in every performance. All of A*Teens are beagles
I stan them because THEY ARE TALENTED... Despite of the hate comments they received, they still do their best to give their best performance to the fans. Despite they debuted before I was born, I still listen to them without judgement. The fragment of memories of A*Teens is the song “Upside Down” & “Dancing Queen” MV.
A*BOYS EVERYONE (STAN TALENT)
youtube
Let’s not compare A*Teens to a new group because all of them are working hard. I appreciate them a lot

SOFI TUKKER - FANTASY
[5.83]
Do you want to hear more Sufi Tukker? (yas) What is the reception of this song? (okay)
David Moore: Not sure why the visual vibe is going for Toy-Box since this is on the polar opposite of the millennial electropop spectrum, but early 2001 it is, and she nails it -- smooth, earnest, dumb, perfect. [8]
Tobi Tella: "Best Friend" was one of my favorite weirdo pop songs of last year, so this duo going with something a little more conventional makes me kinda sad. It's still not normal pop radio fare, with a melodramatic spoken word intro and a europop vibe, but for all the posturing of being alternative, it blends in seamlessly with the generic. [5]
Alfred Soto: The duo have excelled at lightly kinetic dance track with Europop sensibilities, or maybe this is a fancy way of explaining how the generic "haunting" vocal works. [5]
Katherine St Asaph: I was a little harsh on Sofi Tukker the last time around, I think; "Fantasy" is nostalgic for a number of songs untouched by The Algorithms (in the popular-press sense, i.e., synonymous with The Normies). Specifically, I hear Kara DioGuardi in Platinum Weird, and the plaintive, fluting vocal is very Sara Lumholdt in A*Teens. There's more conventional stuff here as well: sad Eurodance, and the Poppy/Maty Noyes set of pop that's sorta-subversive, the kind that suspends in breathy pop air lyrics like "I've never seen someone like you, the one I made you into" or "don't come to life, don't come alive." But crucially, "Fantasy" doesn't break character or spoil the trance kayfabe. It's all yearning, no wink. [7]
Will Adams: With each year following the decline of EDM's rule, I've been holding the (perhaps naïve) hope that eventually we'll reach a place where we're not holding trance at arm's length. Sofi Tukker seem primed to do just that, seeing as they exist more in the realm of flash-in-the-pan '00s Euro duos like DJ Encore & Engelina or even Toy-Box. "Fantasy" lacks the Brazilian influence that made their debut Treehouse so unique, but in return is a wistful trance-pop gem that finds power in its lightness. [8]
Stephen Eisermann: The beat is a little too Yamaha preset and the vocal production sounds a bit too Soundcloud for me to really take this seriously. The pre-chorus is nice, though, so I guess more of that next time and less of... everything else. [2]

Music Groups and Bands You Probably Forgot Existed: 3LW, S Club 7, Dream and More
Are you ready to get a little nostalgic on this fine Throwback Thursday?! We at the E! News offices like to play this little game of seeing who can remember the lyrics to old pop songs from the '90s, which got us thinking of some of the bands who made those hits...most of which we've forgotten existed at this point. For example, do you remember B*Witched and "C'est la Vie"? Or how about Omarion's boy band B2K and their club hit "Bump Bump Bump"? 3LW and "No More"? We could go on and on, but now that we've got you hooked (just admit it!), let's take a look at some of those long-lost groups and pay tribute to the fact that music definitely peaked in the '90s: The Most Awesome Things From the '90s A*Teens: This Swedish pop group from Stockholm was formed in 1998 as an ABBA tribute band and consisted of members: Marie Serneholt, Dhani Lennevald, Sara Lumholdt and Amit Paul. They gave us awesome remakes of songs like "Mamma Mia" and "Dancing Queen," but we'll never forget "Upside Down"  3LW: The girl group was created in the early 2000s and consisted of original members Adrienne Bailon, Kiely Williams and Naturi Naughton. Jessica Benson then replaced Naughton after she left the group in 2002. They had hits like "Playas Gon Play" and "I Do," but nothing holds a candle to "No More (Baby I'ma Do Right)." Dream Street: If you don't remember this 1999 all-American boy band, that's because they were pretty short-lived. However, the group did mark Jesse McCartney's first go at music alongside co-members, Greg Raposo, Matt Ballinger, Frankie Galasso and Chris Trousdale. They were basically five versions of Justin Bieber before Justin Bieber was even a name in our minds. You'll likely remember them by listening to their song "It Happens Every Time."  B*Witched: The Irish girl group consisted of twin sisters Edele and Keavy Lynch as well as Lindsay Armaou and Sinéad O'Carroll and saw success from 1997 through 2002. They brought us "C'est la Vie," and that's all that really matters. Top Boy Bands of All Time S Club 7: The pop group from London was by created by former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller and rose to fame due to their television show Miami 7. The group consisted of members Tina Barrett, Paul Cattermole, Rachel Stevens, Jo O'Meara, Hannah Spearritt, Bradley McIntosh, and Jon Le. You'll probably remember them by songs like "S Club Party," "Never Had a Dream Come True," and our personal favorite, "Bring It All Back."  B2K: Omarion got his start in the music world with the R&B boy band, which also included Lil' Fizz, J-Boog and Raz-B. "Bump, Bump, Bump" was their greatest success, and even though it reminds us of middle school dances, we still kinda love it, TBH. Dream: This group might not be as far removed from your memory as the others, considering they reconvened in 2015. But in case you forgot, they were a pop girl group who rose to fame in 1998, consisting of members Melissa Schuman, Diana Ortiz, Ashley Poole, Holly Blake-Arnstein, Kasey Sheridan and Alex Chester. Singing "He Loves U Not" while picking daisies on our walk to school is something we've probably all experienced. LFO: We will never forget the song "Summer Girls"—do you still like girls who wear Abercrombie & Fitch?—but you probably didn't remember the band behind the hit. That would be the Lyte Funkie Ones aka LFO—a pop band consisting of lead singer Rich Cronin as well as  Devin Lima and Brad Fischetti. BB Mak: If you just said "OMG" out loud, you're not alone. We were pretty proud of ourselves for pulling this group out of the depths of our memory. And somehow this British pop/rock group consisting of Mark Barry, Christian Burns and Stephen McNally managed to sell three million albums between 1999 and 2003. Unfortunately, we only really remember "Back Here." '90s Guy Crushes You Totally Forgot About LMNT: This was another group we got a little too excited about...mostly because "Juliet" still brings so much happiness into our souls. The group was popular in 2000 and was composed of members Matthew Morrison (!!!), Ikaika Kahoano, Bryan Chan, Jonas Persch and Mike Miller. 5ive: The British boy band from London rose to fame in 1997 with members Sean Conlon, Ritchie Neville and Scott Robinson. You might remember their song "When the Lights Go Out" blasting at your middle school dance. Westlife: The Irish boy band was created in 1997 with members Shane Filan, Brian McFadden, Markus Feehily, Nicky Byrne and Kian Egan. You'd likely recall their remake of Secret Garden's "You Raise Me Up" or from their hit song "My Love." Wild Orchid: Did you know Fergie was in a band before the Black Eyed Peas? Yes, indeed she was, and that band's name was originally NRG before it became Wild Orchid. The group—which also consisted of Renee Sandstrom, Stefanie Ridel and Micki Duran (from 1991-1994)—performed from 1991 to 2003 with songs like "Supernatural" and "Talk to Me." Do you have any long-lost bands we've forgotten? Sound off in the comments below!
