The Lovers
This drawing is a tribute to the shared origins of humanity, a reminder of the ancient ties that bind us across time. In contemplating deep time, the vast stretches of history that have shaped us, I feel a profound sense of connection to those who came before us, whether our direct ancestors or other early hominids. The Neanderthals, along with other early hominids, coexisted with us and were not so different; they loved, they dreamed, and they faced the world with curiosity and wonder. This connection is even imprinted in our DNA, a living testament to the bonds we share with these ancient relatives.
By reflecting on our similarities, I am reminded that the essence of our humanity has always been rooted in relationships, in the bonds we forge with others. This connection extends beyond just the human lineage, reaching back to the many hominids who once walked this Earth, and even to our living relatives among the primates. We are part of a vast, interconnected family, linked by our shared journey through deep time.
In this image, I seek to capture the timeless nature of love and the shared journey of our species and our kin. This is not just a story of survival, but one of enduring connection, of two souls meeting across the millennia. In their embrace, I see a reflection of our own struggles and hopes, a reminder that despite the passage of time, the essence of what makes us human and what connects us to all life, remains unchanged.
We are all part of a continuous, unbroken lineage, connected by the deep and ancient roots of our existence. kinda funny that sapiens primarily outlived neandrathals because we were smaller and so needed less food per capita, formed *much* larger tribes, and had to invent more ranged stuff to actually survive, just a little silly, yk?

When I am on my couch crocheting 225 granny squares to make a blanket and my partner is next to me coding a video game he is making for hours at a time I remember we are really no different than our ancestors. Just funny monkeys in love with using tools and making stuff! Using our hands! Just like our ancestors hundreds of thousands of years ago, I’m just like them fr.

I encountered a self-proclaimed witch doctor this week. Among other gifts she bestowed was this book recommendation. I got it from my local “L-eye-barry” and am on a journey further back in time than I’ve ever travelled before. I like that the framing of science and human culture starts on the first page.

"The most commonly believed theory argues that accidental genetic mutations changed the inner wiring of the brains of Sapiens, enabling them to think in unprecedented ways and to communicate using an altogether new type of language." - Sapiens
So basically you mean to say that we as a species are where we are today just coz of an accident in our genetics, and if that accident had not happened we would've liked the other apes! Tf 🙂

For thousands of years, philosophers, thinkers and prophets have besmirched money and called it the root of all evil. Be that as it may, money is also the apogee of human tolerance.
Money is more open-minded than language, state laws, cultural codes, religious beliefs and social habits. Money is the only trust system created by humans that can bridge almost any cultural gap, and that does not discriminate on the basis of religion, gender, race, age or sexual orientation. Thanks to money, even people who don't know each other and don't trust each other can nevertheless cooperate effectively.

(Art: Cartoon by Nicolas Lokhoff)
The history of ethics is a sad tale of wonderful ideals that nobody can live up to. Most Christians did not imitate Christ, most Buddhists failed to follow Buddha, and most Confucians would have caused Confucius a temper tantrum. In contrast, most people today successfully live up to the capitalist–consumerist ideal. The new ethic promises paradise on condition that the rich remain greedy and spend their time making more money and that the masses give free reign to their cravings and passions and buy more and more. This is the first religion in history whose followers actually do what they are asked to do.
