IWTV Musings: Unreliable Narrators: Claudia vs Lestat

I've seen so many Lestans calling Claudia an unreliable narrator as a subtle/overt way of calling her a LIAR™. They're swearing up & down that S3 will revisit everything to disprove Claudia's diaries, and that THE TRUTH™ will finally be told by Lestat. Please set the record straight White Savior Massa Lestat 😔🙏 cuz heaven knows you can't trust NONE of these Darkies--not Louis, not Claudia, and clearly not even Negroid-Adjacent-Asian Armand. They're all Liars™, but lord knows Lestat "I never lie" de Lioncourt's never lied!🤞(x x x)

The Claudia-antis then pretend they GAF about her by jumping on Louis. Louis-antis constantly yell at him in 1x5 cuz he attacked Daniel for demanding to read the missing pages about Claudia's SA; calling Lou a dirty pimp exploiting Claudia and violating her privacy by giving Daniel ANY of Claudia's diaries to use in the memoir he knew would be published & sold. Claudia's diaries were private & never meant to be read by anyone, let alone mass-consumed; and Louis' a terrible effing scumbag just like Santiago to have anyone read her words, when he knew how upset she got over Les reading all of them ("don't do that, it's private!"). She's a liar but her words are sacred.

First of all: People keep forgetting diaries/memoirs/etc are NOT required to be 100% TRUE/ACCURATE in order to be 100% AUTHENTIC/SINCERE. 😤

TVC/IWTV are all about perspectives. Anne Rice revolutionized the vampire genre by humanizing vampires to the extent that we get their own voices & perspectives, more deepely contextualizing their motives, desires, fears, and even traumas and sufferings. But part of the tragedy about The Vampire Claudia is that for all the yelling & hollering she does in IWTV & TotBT, we never really get her words from HER account until Merrick. Even then, it's in a very limited form: a meagre handful of diary pages, and her ghost haunting Louis in a rage. AMC went the distance to really flesh out Claudia's diaries, and expand her voice, while still acknowledging all the ways the voice of a little girl has been ventriloquized & editorialized by adult men.

AMC's decision to compare Claudia to Anne Frank & Stephen King is VERY telling.

book!Claudia's diaries are pure Horror a la Stephen King, as all she really only used them for is to document her Murder Plot, and plans for going to Europe with Louis to find the truth about vampires from a more reliable source than "The Father of Lies," Lestat.

In contrast, AMC!Claudia's diaries inc. all the grisly Horror aspects, but with the added more nuanced dimension of ALSO being a far more Autobiographical a la Anne Frank, who was merely writing as a teenage girl dealing with teenage girl things: her thoughts & experiences with her family & her love interests, etc. The backdrop of the Holocaust is something Anne never really spoke on; but historical context is clear that she obvs still experienced it, and her diaries are often edited & editorialized & curated & marketed & sold & read thru the lens of the Holocaust; even though that was never the point of her private personal writings.

After her death, her diaries were given to her father, Otto Frank, who then chose to edit & publish them, to memorialize his daughter since his whole family died in the camps. Because Otto removed large pieces of Anne's writing, arguments persisted over whether Anne & Otto should be considered co-authors or not. It's Anne's diaries, but whose curated story/narrative is this, Anne's or her dad's?

Her dad removed the sexually explicit material from Anne's diaries about her sex life/experimentation/etc; as well as mundane vignettes. Her diary was "editorialized" not to deceive or lie to people, but to respect her privacy. (Ofc uncensored versions are now published. 🙄)

There were also things in Anne's writings that portrayed IRL people she knew in VERY unflattering lights, that she herself chose to present certain ways. One dude took particular umbrage over Anne having renamed him "Mr. Nitwit" cuz she didn't like him, and TO HER he was stupid AF, but to his family he was a paragon of behavior.

Just cuz Anne represented Mr. Nitwit in a certain way doesn't mean she was lying on him. She didn't like him, and was writing HER TRUTH about how she perceived him, regardless of how he or his family saw him. He and his family kept tryna get her diaries & film/stage adaptations edited to more accurately/truthfully represent, and he was shot down every single time, cuz it doesn't effing matter what anyone else thought. Anne's opinions aren't any less valid just cuz he took offense! All that matters is what SHE thought about him. And TO ANNE, Mr. Nitwit was a frikkin moron! 😂 Eff him!

Likewise, it doesn't matter that Les insisted how happy they all were at Rue Royale, pointing out that there were good moments Lou never mentioned, or loving & romantic moments Loustat shared. IWTV stands as-is as a representation based on how LOUIS felt, eff Les! Same way it doesn't matter that Lou insisted that he tried as hard as he could to do right by Claudia--and it ESPECIALLY doesn't matter if Les felt he deserved to die or not. All that matters is that TO CLAUDIA, somebody needed to die to satisfy her resentment & rage at how miserable SHE felt about her life; that not even her diary pages could hold as her effing ghost restlessly wandered Rue Royale, not at peace. SHE decided that her opp was Lestat; eff him!

And this also applies to Claudia's POV of Les' injuries in Ep5. While I still believe part of why Les' bloody appearance changes is cuz of vampire healing a la the books/film (since we KNEW Les's super strong & already had the Fire Gift in S1), I also think a HUGE factor's that we saw the fight thru 2 key povs: the victim being abused (Claudia & Lou in 1x5), and the abuser victimizing himself (Les in 2x7). Ofc Loustat each hyperfocused on their injuries. Les was bleeding from every effing pore. BUT! He never denied that he bit Lou SEVERAL times (draining his blood to WEAKEN Lou), and beat Lou's face. BUT! None of Lou's injuries were oozing as bad as Les', which is ofc a sign of minimizing Lou's injuries to make Les seem more sympathetic--meanwhile Claudia's broken leg & head injury weren't shown in 2x7 AT ALL, cuz SHE'S the one doomed to die.

And the Trial brings me to another point.

Second of all: Intent matters. Claudia's reasons for writing a diary, and Lou's reasons for using Claudia's diaries are LEAGUES different from Santiago's

Like I already said:

Claudia's diaries were used against her in the Trial to condemn her to death, burned alive at the stake all for the unforgivable crime of hating the father who abused her and her favorite parent, and taking action to get rid of Lestat for good when he refused to let her go free, all cuz he wanted/needed to keep Louis chained down to him. Claudia's diaries (her corpus/body of work) was passed around to the coven in 2x6 & the audience in 2x7, her privacy violated as all her deepest darkest thoughts & feelings were thrown in her face, mocked, and used as ammo to ultimately kill her. She was told to be feel "SHAME!" for trying to stand up for herself, and mind-fogged and forced to STFU when she spoke out of line.

Lestat HELPED Santiago & Sam & Armand misread & misrepresent & decontextualize Claudia's diaries, yet y'all fools expect Lestat to be a paragon of truth in S3?! 😂🤣 Y'all honestly think Les will show up in S3 totally reformed, with zero chance of partiality, bias, hurt feelings, bruised egos, defensiveness/offensiveness, skewed perspectives, embellishments, misconceptions, or fallible logic whatsoever coloring his narrative or demonstrating how Les' POV is just ONE of MANY sides of the story!? He swore on his own blood and STILL lied!

Claudia had NOTHING to prove to anyone but HERSELF. Yes, she lied about not having dreams, cuz she was TRAUMATIZED, and tried to make herself be strong by not giving her nightmares power.

Ofc she had no idea how badly that lie would affect Lou, who agonized over the possibility that Claudia had no dreams, just a void. But she did not lie with the intention of maliciously hurting anyone. And mostly she lied to try to make the lie a reality: she'd rather NOT dream at all than keep having nightmares (about Bruce, Les, WW2, whatever was bothering her). Claudia's an unreliable narrator cuz all we have are her diaries, NOT cuz she said/wrote something in her diary that wasn't true. Lou thanked Daniel for helping him regain a lost piece of his memories, cuz it makes Claudia more flawed, but also more REAL. Lou'd been holding onto to her diaries as a lifeline cuz up until that time HE COULDN'T REMEMBER HER right.The diaries were all he had left--the most direct & reliable vestige of his dead daughter; where every word and ink splatter was crystalized as darn near gospel, not the living breathing girl herself. It is a mistake to treat diaries as 100% truth/fact. Cuz like I said, not one & nothing is REALLY 100% honest/true, that's impossible, through sheer fact of human fallibility. Contrary to popular effing opinion by anti-Claudia/anti-Louis Lestans & Armstans, a person who lies isn't necessarily A LIAR™.

So yeah, I just have to smdh at the copium some Lestans are huffing. They swore up & down that S2 would revisit Ep5 to prove that Louis & Claudia were lying about their poor uwu blorbo Lestat dropping Louis from the effing atmosphere; and now they're swearing that S3 will revisit S1/S2 to prove that Claudia's a liar and her diaries are effed up.

The anti-Louis Lestans had egg all over their effing faces in 2x5 - 2x8, when it became UNDENIABLE that Armand heavily factored into Louis' unreliability--AND Claudia's. YES, we been knew since S1 that Loumand tampered with Claudia's diaries, but S2 revealed even more, that Armand went BEHIND Louis' back to remove pages they DIDN'T agree together on. Claudia obvs had negative things to say about Armand, and he got rid of them cuz he didn't want DANIEL figuring out the truth about him. (Ofc, anything negative Claudia had to say about Lestat was left right where it was.)

Armand wanted Lestat to come across as negatively as possible, to Louis AND to Daniel; to make himself look better, like the genuinely better/kinder/safer option--the injection called more humane than the electric chair, although they're both terrible forms of torture. 🙄 That came at the price of sacrificing Claudia (literally & figuratively), and compromising the integrity of her diaries.

But regardless of what is or isn't missing from her diaries, and regardless of how she decided to minimize her traumas and emphasize Lestat's faults, it still doesn't take away from the fact that TO CLAUDIA, she felt she had been wronged by BOTH her parents, and acted accordingly to free herself from a bad situation the only way a child born & raised to be a effing KILLER knew how: by KILLING. If she was 100% honest about ANYTHING in those diaries, it was about the fact that she wanted Lestat to effing PAY, and SHE felt he deserved it, for the way he'd treated her AND Louis.

BUENOS AIRES, Nov 19 (Reuters) - Argentina elected libertarian outsider Javier Milei as its new president on Sunday, rolling the dice on an outsider with radical views to fix an economy battered by triple-digit inflation, a looming recession and rising poverty.

Official results have not been released, but his rival, Peronist Economy Minister Sergio Massa, conceded in a speech. His candidacy was hampered by the country's worst economic crisis in two decades while he has been at the helm.

Milei is pledging economic shock therapy. His plans include shutting the central bank, ditching the peso, and slashing spending, potentially painful reforms that resonated with voters angry at the economic malaise, but sparked fears of austerity in others.

"Milei is the new thing, he's a bit of an unknown and it is a little scary, but it's time to turn over a new page," said 31-year-old restaurant worker Cristian as he voted on Sunday.

But Milei's challenges are enormous. He will have to deal with the empty coffers of the government and central bank, a creaking $44 billion debt program with the International Monetary Fund, inflation nearing 150% and a dizzying array of capital controls.

With many Argentines not fully convinced by either candidate, some had characterized the vote as a choice of the "lesser evil": fear of Milei's painful economic medicine versus anger at Massa and his Peronist party for an economic crisis that has left Argentina deeply in debt and unable to tap global credit markets.

Milei has been particularly popular among the young, who have grown up seeing their country lurch from one crisis to another.

"Our generation is pushing the presidency of Milei to stop our country being a pariah," said Agustina Lista, 22, a student in Buenos Aires.

Milei's win shakes up Argentina's political landscape and economic roadmap, and could impact trade in grains, lithium and hydrocarbons. Milei has criticized China and Brazil, saying he won't deal with "communists," and favors stronger U.S. ties.

The shock rise of the 53-year-old economist and former TV pundit has been the story of the election, breaking the hegemony of the two main political forces on the left and the right - the Peronists and the main Together for Change conservative bloc.

"The election marks a profound rupture in the system of political representation in Argentina," said Julio Burdman, director of the consultancy Observatorio Electoral, ahead of the vote.

Supporters of Massa, 51, an experienced political wheeler-dealer, had sought to appeal to voter fears about Milei's volatile character and "chainsaw" plan to cut back the size of the state.

"Milei's policies scare me," teacher Susana Martinez, 42, said on Sunday after she voted for Massa.

Milei is also staunchly anti-abortion, favors looser gun laws and has called Argentine Pope Francis a socialist "son of a bitch". He used to carry a chainsaw in a symbol of his planned cuts but shelved it in recent weeks to help boost his moderate image.

After October's first-round vote, Milei struck an uneasy alliance with the conservatives, which boosted his support. But he faces a highly fragmented Congress, with no single bloc having a majority, meaning that he will need to get backing from other factions to push through legislation. Milei's coalition also does not have any regional governors or mayors.

That may temper some of his more radical proposals. Long-suffering voters are likely to have little patience, and the threat of social unrest is never far below the surface.

His backers say only he can uproot the political status quo and economic malaise that has dogged South America's second-largest economy for years.

"Milei is the only viable option so we do not end up in misery," said Santiago Neria, a 34-year-old accountant.

‘El Loco’ wins landslide victory in Argentina that experts say shows scale of frustration with Peronist status quo

Luminaries of the global far right are in raptures over Javier Milei’s thumping election victory in Argentina which experts predict will turn Buenos Aires into a new stomping ground for the populist radical right.

Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro led the merrymaking after their Argentinian ally trounced his rival, the Peronist finance minister Sergio Massa, by nearly 3 million votes in Sunday’s presidential election. The former US president predicted Milei would “truly make Argentina great again” while Brazil’s ex-president applauded a victory for “honesty, progress and freedom”.

Bolsonarista and Mileísta activists predicted Milei’s win would be the first in a trio of rightwing conquests that would see Trump and Bolsonaro reclaim power in 2024 and 2026.

In his first post-victory interview on Monday, Milei announced he would travel to the US and Israel – where he has promised to move Argentina’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem – before being sworn in on 10 December, alongside his ultra-conservative vice-president elect Victoria Villarruel.

Bolsonaro announced he would attend Milei’s inauguration in Buenos Aires and posted footage of a pally video call with Argentina’s president-elect. “I’m really happy,” Bolsonaro told the radical libertarian economist. “You have a big job ahead of you … and it’s a job that goes beyond Argentina,” Brazil’s former leader added. “Gracias!” Milei replied.

Unlike Bolsonaro, a professional politician who posed as an anti-establishment outsider to win power in 2018, Milei is a genuine newcomer to the world of politics. Born in Buenos Aires in 1970, he played in a Rolling Stones cover band and found fame as a foul-mouthed economic pundit on Argentinian television before being elected to congress in 2021 for his libertarian party Libertad Avanza (Freedom Advances). Milei’s mercurial personality, expletive-ridden onscreen outbursts and Britpop-style hairdo have cemented his reputation as ‘El Loco’ (The Madman).

From Bogotá and Santiago to Lisbon and Madrid, other ultra-conservative figures voiced delight at Milei’s landslide victory over the centrist Massa, by 14.47m to 11.51m votes.

André Ventura, the leader of Portugal’s far-right Chega! (Enough!), celebrated Milei’s “struggle to defend society” and Matteo Salvini, the leader of Italy’s far-right League, sent his congratulations. Santiago Abascal, the leader of Spain’s far-right party Vox, said Milei had opened “a path of future and hope … for Argentines and all of Latin America”.

Hungary’s president Katalin Novák congratulated Milei on a “great victory”.In South America, the Chilean ultra-conservative politician José Antonio Kast congratulated Milei for his “resounding triumph”, writing: “The reconstruction of Argentina starts now”.

Al 13' ghiotta occasione per i campani. Cuomo si incunea in area e punta Galli, interviene in scivolata Delvino che chiude lo specchio, costringendo l'attaccante a decentrare il tiro al lato di pochi centimetri.

Il Nardò cerca di scuotersi ma non punge. Gli amalfitani pressano e chiudono gli spazi proponendosi in ripartenza. Al 27' punizione-cross di Correnti, con colpo di testa di Piccioni fuori misura.4

Al 76' Gatto lanciato da Correnti si ritrova solo davanti a Provitolo ma angola troppo il tiro che si perde sul fondo d'un soffio. All'64 corner con colpo di testa di di Proto, alto sulla traversa. All'88' leggerezza di Addae che perde palla in uscita. De Sio si accentra e calibra un tiro a giro che sorvola di poco la traversa. Sparky’s Diner

It was a slow time at Sparky’s Diner. Not unexpected or anything. After the lunch rush, 

but Jeremy knew that the dinner rush would come eventually. Until then, there were a couple customers, who had been patiently awaiting their orders. Jeremy spatulated two eggs on the plate next to the freshly toasted bread, and added the exotic butter on top of the pancakes, then he took a couple red plaid napkins under the plates and carried the two dishes to the customers at the booth.

“Oh it's just such a shame Ness left this place.” The woman at the booth said.

“Yeah. You’re just not the same.” the man sitting across from her said to Jeremy.

“What?” Jeremy said. He was pretty sure he knew what this was about, but would check out of politeness and a desire for tips.

“Ness! He was so good with the customers, and the food.” The woman said.

Jeremy's blood boiled.

“It’s such a shame he’s no longer with us.” the man said, almost tearing up.

“Stop telling people I'm dead!” A voice came from the back room.

“Sometimes, I can still hear his voice!” the man said, wiping a nonexistent tear from his cheek.

“Yeah… so Ness still works here. He’s just the manager in the back office.” Jeremy said.

“Yeah, but he doesn’t cook the food anymore.” the woman said.

“Or serve it!” the man added.

“He typically wasn’t the only cook in the kitchen, and he still serves a lot on busy days.” Jeremy corrected.

The couple didn’t respond but rolled their eyes before starting on their food. Jeremy walked away to join his coworkers at the bar. William was drying dishes while chatting with Michael, who was taking this slow time to sit on the wrong side of the bar.

“Yeah, I just don't get it! Why?” Will was saying to Mike. 

“What don't you get?” Jeremy asked.

“Tim quit!” Mike said. “Yesterday he told Ness he had to take this security gig on the graveyard shift.”

Timothy had left?! This was a surprise. He had been a Sparky’s employee longer than Jeremy. 

“and we had just taught him how to make a conspiracy board!” Will said.

Jeremy remembered that from last week. Will, Micheal, and Ness had built a whole conspiracy board about how to make conspiracy boards. Tim had seemed… confused, to be honest. Jeremy couldn't blame him, most of the theories didn't even turn out true, much less make sense. 

“Wall-E cannibalism?” Tim had said to Ness, “you know that's a kids movie, right?”

The point wasn't to be true to canon though, it was to have fun making kids' media dark and melo-dramatic.

A little bell rang as Cass came in for her shift.

“Hey guys, sorry I'm late!” Cassidy said, holding her folded up uniform as she ran to the back to change. 

“No worries, Cass. It is dead right now.” Jeremy called after her.

He briefly looked over at the couple sitting at the table, hoping they hadn't just heard him say that. Oh well there he look, they were both staring right at him. Glaring. Jeremy probably shouldn't have said that. Whoops.

“Er, except for you two.” He corrected himself. 

Cassie came back to the front, still adjusting her uniform.

“You hear about Tim?” Jeremy asked her. 

“What? No?” Cass answered, eyebrows furrowed.

“He quit!” Mike explained. “No ill will or anything, he just wanted to do this other job really bad.”

“Yeah but it's a worse job!” Will said. “Nighttime security at Freddy's!”

“Freddy's?” Cass said. 

“Isn't that that old kids’ pizza place?” Jeremy said. 

“I thought that place closed down?” Cass said. 

“It did!” Mike said. “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza Diner. Closed in the 80s.”

“Three kids went missing, and they never found the bodies!” Will said “I seriously think that place is haunted! I'm surprised there's even still a building to guard. It's burned down so many times!”

“You think it's insurance fraud?” Mike said. 

“It's at least insurance fraud! Didn't the owner die in one of those fires?” William said.

“Wait, so who's paying Tim then?” Cass asked. 

“Nobody knows!” Mike answered.

“I never liked the food there.” Jeremey said. “Pizza was bad, just no care put into it.”

“Hey, did you go there as a kid too?” Cass asked, face lighting up in nostalgia.

“Yeah, it was fun!” Jeremey said. “I liked the animatronics. My favorite was Chica.”

“Mine was probably Bonnie.” Cass said.

“I always liked Foxy.” Mike said.

They all turned to William, awaiting his response.

Will raised an eyebrow. “I’m not from America.” 

Everyone had an oh, right… moment as they heard his British accent.

“Also,” Will said with a chuckle “no one liked Freddy at the Freddy’s Diner?”

“I did!” came the familiar voice of Ness yelling from the backroom.

1 aug San Esteves-Musha 14,51km

Jag vaknade tidigt men fick försöka somna om, meningslöst att gå före 7 så härbärget jag siktade mot inte öppnade förrän 13.

Jag packade i alla fall ihop mina grejer och när jag kom ner i köket så satt Marius där. Det var ett trevligt möte. Han frågade lite om Finisterre. Han hade gått kustvägen, grön rutt, lite jävligare en gul. Berättade att det var en ganska enkel tur för honom med mycket ner för.

Grön rutt finns inte i buen Camino appen. Den får man söka på annat håll. Det finns massor med varianter som korsar varandra.

Det som skulle gå till Musha senare idag hade lämnat sina små resväskor i receptionen . De går utan ryggsäck de fingår bara mellan Santiago och Finisterre samt vissa går till Musha sen tar de tydligen taxi ifrån Musha till Santiago 

Det var även dimmigt idag men varmare än igår ca 25 grader. 

Början av dagen gick igenom eukalyptus skogar på smala grusvägar o en o annan bro.

Vid Morquentian fick jag stark kramp i ländryggen det var inte skönt och jag blev faktiskt lite skraj satte mig ner och vilade en stund. 

Som tur var så fanns det en liten bar längre fram.

Det fick bli frukost där.

Det var skönt att sitta en stund. Två kanadensare kom in, de kommer från Musha och sa att "Du har ungefär två timmar kvar "

De skulle till Finisterre, jag sa, ni har ungefär 2 timmar kvar, o log...

Jag bytte till en torr tröja och fortsatte.

Under tiden jag satt på cafét såg jag ingen som skulle gå samma väg som jag, alla kom från Musha, likadant när jag gick sån mötte jag många men jag tittade bakåt på rakorna  såg jag ingen.

Mötte en kalifornisk pappa med två äldre söner han hade övertalat den att gå, men han lyckades inte få med sin fru men hoppades på nästa år.

Tipsade honom om cafét jag precis hade stannat på han blev glad och fick lite mer motivation då han inte hade förväntat sig något Café före San Estevan.

Bara någon kilometer senare kom ytterligare två amerikaner, jag tipsade om samma bar.  De visste inte heller att det fanns någon bar där. Kul att ge motivation, då de hade haft mycket uppför.

Med dem inräknat har jag mött ett 50-tal personer nu och klockan är strax efter elva där också börjat klarna upp lite

Man kan känna det på att det blir varmare samt se det genom att det inte finns någon mer dimma på låg höjd. 

Det var härligt att komma ner till havet igen och höra vågornas lå mot stranden kännaren havsdoft som spred sig över landskapet.

Det hände nåt med vinden och molnen ändrade plötsligt form.

Jag gick ner och satte mig vid strandkanten. 

Stranden  bestod av stora stenar men vad gjorde det, det härliga ljudet från vågorna  gjorde att mina tankar fick mer rum. Vågbruset störde ut min tinnitus alldeles perfekt. jätteskönt. Kände av ryggen också och det var som den visste att det var slut nu. 

Precis innan jag skulle sätta mig så började det dugga lite grann Jag trodde det skulle bli kraftigare regn så jag plockade fram ponchon och lagom när jag hade plockat fram den, så slutade det, så det var bara att stoppa ner ponchon igen, ha ha.

 Tack för det sa jag högt för mig själv.

Det växte nån konstig blomma bland stenarna.

Flera större fiskebåtar passerade ut med kusten Jag tittade på kartan och insåg att det inte fanns något därute före Grönland, bara en massa vatten.

 Passande på att spela in lite vågbrus. Det kan vara bra att ha om det är svårt att sova. Jag lyssnar hellre på vågbrus en snarkningar.

Trots att inte solen kunde bryta genom helt ännu var ändå skönt att sitta här på stenarna.

Jag satt en bra stund och hade bra utsikt över vägen vid sidan om, men ingen gick åt mitt håll, bara åt andra hållet. Nu var det nog 20 till som gått mot Finisterre.

När jag kom fram till Alberquet vid 12:15 så satt en fransk tjej före mig. Det öppnade 13 som sagt, så det var bara att vänta. Hon hade åkt buss från Finisterre..och skulle som så många andra jag mött, åka till Porto o börja om?

Det kom indroppandes några st bakom oss och köade i gathörnen, där det gick att sitta. 

När hospitaleron öppnade så visar det sig att fransyskan inte hade rätt stämplar i passet. Hon hade glömt att stämpla i Finisterre innan hon satte sig på bussen.. Statliga boenden kräver att man har rätt stämplar för att få bo. Endast pilgrimer med rätt stämplar får bo där. Men det är faktiskt det första stället jag har varit med att man kollar så noga. I Finisterre var man tvungen att visa "passet" då endast. På kvällen var det 6 tomma sängar, om hon bara kunde fått vänta lite?

Stod i varm dusch länge, det var gött för en trött rygg.

Frågade om man fick stanna 2 nätter, men se det gick inte. 

En natt o så sen UT, även om det fanns tomma sängar. De stänger kl 22 också, så ingen solnedgång vid fyren för de som bor här. Så det fick bli en nedgång, på takterrassen.

Jag handlade och sökte sen upp turistinfo och fick mitt bevis att jag g��tt. Sen hem o äta. Som vanligt fanns det inga redskap, men jag fick på nåder låna en skål av hospitaleron.

Det var onödigt stort härbärge mot nyttjad yta. 3 plan.

Jag fick också ett tips idag att om man tar engelska ord som slutar på vissa ändelser, kan man enkelt göra om dem till spanska.

Kvällen tillbringade jag på takterrassen ihop med en fransk kvinna från Bordeaux sen kom ett par från Portugal. Lite kul med kvinnan från Portugal, hon tyckte att vi hade bra krimförfattare, hon hade läst allt av Läckberg och Kepler.

Alla stora moln var som bortblåsta 😆

O Governo do Paraná segue prestando o apoio ao Rio Grande do Sul com o envio de equipes e mantimentos para atender as vítimas das chuvas que atingiram a região. Neste domingo (19), uma equipe do Corpo de Bombeiros composta por três bombeiros e dois cães embarcou com destino à região serrana do Vale do Taquari onde foram registrados deslizamentos de terra. Os binômios, que é como são chamadas as duplas compostas pelo cão e pelo bombeiro, vão trabalhar na busca por pessoas desaparecidas em algumas das áreas mais afetadas pelas chuvas. “São áreas onde a água já baixou, mas há muita lama, terra e escombros. Os animais têm a mobilidade necessária de se deslocar com mais facilidade por este terreno e de identificar, pelo odor, onde há vítimas”, afirmou o comandante do Canil Central do Corpo de Bombeiros, tenente Daniel Kaneko Leal. Eva e Skull, os dois cães enviados, são treinados desde filhotes para fazer este tipo de busca. Os dois também contam com as certificações necessárias para atuar em desastres com deslizamento de terra. Atualmente, o Corpo de Bombeiros do Paraná tem seis animais treinados e certificados para este tipo de ocorrência. “São animais que trabalham em dupla com seus condutores. Eles têm um vínculo muito forte, que ajuda neste tipo de trabalho tenso e difícil. São animais que já passaram por várias provas e testes para se preparar pra este tipo de busca. Com toda a certeza eles vão ajudar muito nas buscas pelo treinamento que têm e pela capacidade olfativa”, explicou o comandante. A previsão é que a equipe fique no Rio Grande do Sul cerca de uma semana. Caso seja necessário continuar com os trabalhos, deve haver um revezamento dos binômios do Paraná. “Depois de um tempo, estes animais precisam voltar para descansar. Mas conforme for necessário, enviaremos novos binômios para seguir nas buscas”, disse. INTERNADOS – O mesmo avião da Casa Militar que levou os bombeiros também estava carregado com três kits de nutrição parenteral (NPT), uma espécie de alimentação em soro para pessoas internadas. Dois dos kits com bolsas de soro têm como destino pacientes que estão na Santa Casa de Alegrete e outra caixa de suplemento será enviada até a cidade de Santiago. Claudia's Celebration of Life: Spark in the Dark - Womanhood & Childhood

As the title suggests, this event is to celebrate the wonderful Claudia; her personality, her aspirations, her journey. The heart for the past two seasons of AMC Interview with The Vampire. This is to take the narrative back to her, proving she's not just a shingle roof for us. 9. Aug 27th & 28th: Womanhood OR Childhood

AMC's IWTV adaptation goes the distance to both mirror & also complicate Anne Rice's "negotiation between the urge to conform to and the compulsion to subvert traditional bourgeois values about sexuality and gender" (20). Rolin Jones said he wanted to have fun with racial and gendered/sexual roles, and all the messy dynamics therein.

For James R. Keller, the (book) vampires conform to a model based strictly on heterosexual nuclear family parent-child dynamics:

(I assume this is what he meant by "three overlapping triangles"? A venn diagram?)

AMC radically shifted these dynamics, by making The Unholy Family (Lestat, Louis, Claudia) the only united triad; and isolating Louis from Claudia's other interpersonal relationships, to give her more independence/autonomy, as a much older "child"/teenage vampire than she was in the book:

Claudia is aged up not only in years, but experience, especially as she witnesses the brutal spousal abuse of her "favorite" parent, Daddy Lou, at the hands of their much older & much more powerful Coven Master & Maker, Lestat. With Louis dropped 2km from the sky & all of his bones broken so that he can't even walk, Claudia becomes the protector, provider, and "knight in vengeful black" at the door between the the battered Louis and the estranged Uncle Les. She grows up too soon, and becomes Louis' (surrogate) maternal figure during his convalescence.

Claudia emancipates herself from Massa Lestat's oppression when he returns to 1132, rejecting all illusions that they're still a family where Les would occupy the parental role with any hierarchical/patriarchal authority over her:

While she embraces being a loving sibling with Lou, her relationship with Les is all but dead in the water, not even tryna be a "companion/sister" to the monster she's desperate to get far away from; "You should've let that train go, Uncle Les!"

Pissed at Lou that he didn't burn Les' body after her successful Murder Plot, Claudia's fed up even with him; giving him the cold shoulder as they cross Europe, looking for other vampires.

"And the horrors we walked over every night.... They only calcified her determination to find others she could better relate to. And rereading these pages, it's clear she didn't think I qualified any longer.... Louis de Pointe du Lac. Dead weight."

In Romania, she's rejected twice, when she tries bonding with the Revenant; tryna show him how to feed properly (he was still drinking from soldiers after they were dead, ew), like a mother with a child; just as she caught animals to feed the injured Louis. Feral, he just attacked her & walked off.

Daciana also rejected her, refusing to be mother to vampires she didn't create herself, or allow Claudia to become her surrogate child/coven in the Revenant's stead.

Uninterested in teaching Claudia & Louis anything about herself or her experiences/history; Daciana threw herself into the fire & died.

In Paris, she quickly bonds with Santiago, who stands up for her & guides her almost like a big brother against their Coven Master Armand's rules & punishments. She looks up to him as a proud vampire who "kills with panache;" just as she'd been taken with Bruce, "you don't kill like a 'Bruce;'' you kill like a 'Killer.'" In them she thinks/hopes she's finally found kindred spirits.

Armand gives ZERO effs about Claudia, not interested being any familial figure to her. AMC removes his telepathic death threats from the book, and just goes full force on him actively plotting her death in the Trial. (Most radically, he plans to have Louis killed, too). Armand goes right past Wicked Stepfather, and straight to Evil Arsehole; forcing her to wear the Baby LouLou costume everyday & even sleep in it; ordering her to get her "childlike wonder" back, even as he crushed her spirit and disrespected/disregarded her attempt to grow (up) in the coven.

Armand abuses her exactly how Old World Coven Masters/Maitres abuse fledglings: with zero agency/autonomy/freedom, let alone respect; like slaves rather than people/family, like Lou said in 1x2:

FINALLY, Claudia meets Madeleine; the only one who treats her like a person--at first rude & condescending, but gradually bonding with her as she helps Claudia dress more maturely; acknowledges her being worth more than the demeaning Baby Lou Lou role; and who doesn't reject her when Claudia's vampirism is finally revealed. She treats Claudia like the woman she is, not the child she appears as.

Unlike the books, AMC doesn't make Madeleine Claudia's mother-figure; a woman still grieving for her own dead daughter (a la Anne Rice).

In another interesting twist, AMC!Louis AND Claudia turn Madeleine together--they're BOTH her Makers.

But instead of having a typical Parent-Child dynamic, Claudeleine are like Loustat: Lovers. Madeleine is Claudia's love interest, though their romance is largely left off-screen (which IMO defeats the purpose, if they're not gonna SHOW or barely TELL US that Claudeleine are lesbian vampire companions). But they're also EQUALS, in a way Loustat never was.

With Madeleine, Claudia finally fully matures--she makes dresses for Claudia that tastefully show her cleavage, with jewelry and light makeup, but still youthful & sweet & bright; always dressed in Sunshine Yellow--a spark in the dark.

Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine - New York, NY

A Igreja Ortodoxa Grega de São Nicolau original foi completamente destruída no colapso da Torre 2 do World Trade Center durante os ataques terroristas de 11 de setembro de 2001. Após extensas negociações com a Autoridade Portuária de Nova York e Nova Jersey, a Arquidiocese Ortodoxa Grega da América recebeu permissão para construir uma nova Igreja de São Nicolau no extremo leste do novo Liberty Park, acima do Centro de Segurança de Veículos do World Trade Center.

Restrições do site incluídas:

- A localização, área ocupada e volume da Igreja foram fixados diretamente acima do Centro de Segurança de Veículos do World Trade Center, dentro do Liberty Park. Não são permitidas modificações no espaço abaixo dos ‘limites definidos’ da Igreja

- A estrutura deve ser construída sobre uma 'tapete' de concreto de 4 pés de espessura que a Autoridade Portuária fornecerá, e deve estar em conformidade com as suposições de carga da 'tapete'

- Os serviços públicos serão fornecidos no local e não poderão ser realocados;

- O projeto deverá incorporar um poço de ventilação planejado dentro da área do edifício.

A igreja está situada a aproximadamente sete metros acima do nível da rua, o que a eleva ligeiramente acima da copa dos carvalhos do Memorial do World Trade Center. Mortalha em pedra, é inteiramente apropriado que a igreja, único edifício não secular no local reconstruído, ocupe esta posição elevada. Como tal, será um farol espiritual de esperança e renascimento para a congregação e para a cidade através das centenas de milhares de visitantes que passarão pelo local reconstruído do World Trade Center.

' O desenho da igreja deve respeitar as tradições e a liturgia da Igreja Ortodoxa Grega, mas ao mesmo tempo deve reflectir o facto de que vivemos no século XXI. 'Sua Eminência, o Arcebispo Demetrios.

Em resposta a este desafio, Santiago Calatrava decidiu fornecer um edifício e uma sequência de espaços que abordassem diretamente a liturgia tradicional grega, ao mesmo tempo que criavam uma procissão arquitetónica espacialmente variada.

O exterior da igreja é composto por quatro torres maciças revestidas de pedra que definem uma planta quadrada. Um círculo inscrito dentro do quadrado consiste em um tambor e uma cúpula construída em seu exterior com finos painéis laminados de pedra/vidro que são iluminados por trás. À noite, todo o sistema de paredes cortina de pedra brilha em contraponto à massa sólida das torres. A pele do tambor e da cúpula, formada como um material aparentemente monolítico, é dividida em quarenta painéis facetados em reconhecimento às 40 janelas da cúpula de Hagia Sophia. Quarenta águas-furtadas, embora claramente expressas, estão perfeitamente integradas na composição tridimensional.

As torres de canto são revestidas com grandes e pequenas faixas horizontais alternadas de mármore branco e cinza que lembram a Igreja do Santo Salvador em Chora, Turquia. Espaços programáticos adicionais e circulação vertical estão alojados em uma extensão das duas torres ocidentais; cujo revestimento utiliza as mesmas faixas alternadas de mármore branco e cinza. Na fachada oeste da igreja, uma cortina facetada de construção semelhante à cúpula exterior ilumina os espaços de luto e comunitários localizados nos níveis superiores da igreja.

A sequência tradicional de espaços litúrgicos começa em uma grande praça aberta a oeste da igreja e prossegue através do Pórtico, Exonarthex, Narthex e na Nave da igreja, culminando na Iconóstase e no Santuário. A partir da praça, que reproduz a dimensão e a forma geral da Nave de São Nicolau, a entrada na igreja faz-se através de um arco baixo que se estende entre as torres de escada redonda da fachada poente. O arco forma um pórtico protegido com aproximadamente 2,5 metros de profundidade na frente das portas de entrada que se abrem para o Exonarthex.

O Exonarthex tem a dupla função de preparar a entrada no espaço de culto da igreja, ao mesmo tempo que proporciona um espaço solene e não denominacional para o público. Historicamente, o Exonártex era um espaço utilizado pelos catecúmenos, ou não batizados, que não tinham permissão para entrar no espaço sagrado da Nave. Em São Nicolau, devido à escala restrita da igreja, o Exonártex funde-se com o Nártex para formar um único espaço contíguo que circunscreve a Nave. Abriga uma loja que controla a entrada e presta assistência e informação aos visitantes, além de ligação aos níveis superiores da igreja. Salas de velas circulares localizadas lateralmente ao Narthex abrigam espaços não denominacionais onde paroquianos e visitantes podem meditar ou rezar em memória de seus entes queridos.

A partir do Nártex a entrada na Nave faz-se pelas “Portas Reais”, que no caso de São Nicolau são um par de portas de correr translúcidas. Tomando como modelos a Igreja da Rotunda de Salónica e a Hagia Sophia, a nave da igreja situa-se sob o vão abrangente de uma cúpula central; no centro da qual está a Imagem de Cristo (Pantocrator), Governante do Universo. Os recessos axiais norte e sul, ou nichos, são marcados por janelas em arco translúcidas divididas por montantes formando uma cruz. Pequenas mesas Icona e ofertórios acentuam os nichos. O recesso nascente elimina a janela em arco para que a iconografia acima do altar se desenvolva como uma imagem singular.

A Iconostase, uma longa tela baixa que separa a Nave do Altar, estende-se pela extremidade leste da Nave para abranger toda a amplitude de visão que um paroquiano ou visitante pode ter ao entrar. Além da Iconóstase está o Santuário que abriga o Altar. Este é o culminar da procissão litúrgica e, na tradição da Igreja Ortodoxa Grega, o acesso é reservado apenas aos sacerdotes.

A cúpula é separada do tambor da Nave e apoiada visualmente em quatro colunas independentes. Quarenta nervuras acentuam quarenta janelas em cúpula que correspondem às águas-furtadas exteriores. As costelas convergem para um disco central que possui uma abertura circular menor no centro. A luz natural, escondida pelo disco, ilumina o Pantocrator no ápice da cúpula, bem como o anel dos vinte profetas que se alternam entre as costelas da cúpula.

Os dois espaços não litúrgicos situados na parte oeste do edifício da cúpula são as salas de luto e de comunidade. A Sala de Luto, localizada no nível acima do Narthex, abre-se para vistas ocidentais do Liberty Park e do WTC Memorial através do véu de painéis de pedra/vidro laminados. Dois pequenos escritórios neste nível possuem janelas que permitem vistas do Memorial e do Liberty Park. A Sala de Reuniões é um amplo espaço aberto ao uso da comunidade local para reuniões e outras atividades. É iluminada através dos painéis de pedra laminada/vidro da fachada poente. Estas salas são uma componente significativa do programa do edifício e resultam das negociações entre a Arquidiocese e a Capitania dos Portos. Eles acentuam o relacionamento aberto e positivo da igreja com o grande local do Memorial do World Trade Center, bem como com a comunidade de Lower Manhattan.
