You heard the door open, Christopher clearing his throat. You continued shuffling through papers, glancing at the time.

"Yes?"

"An old friend is here to see you." Christopher explained, standing in the doorway. You hummed, setting the papers down after fixing them.

"If it's one or both of the Gecko brothers, tell them to eat shit." You told him, already too tired to deal with any problems the Geckos had. Christopher let out a soft chuckle.

"It's not the Geckos."

"Is it the kids?" You asked, brows furrowed as you faced him. You had grown close to Kate and Scott since the mess back at The Twister. You had taken Scott under your wing, knowing Carlos would be an incredibly bad influence on him.

"No, it's an actual old friend."

"If it's Carlos then he can also eat sh-"

"La Diosa." Christopher cut off softly. You took in a deep breath, letting it out as a sigh. You shook your head, licking your lips. It was surprising that she hadn't entered your office uninvited yet.

"Did you find out what she wants?"

"No, she demanded to see you the moment she walked in." Christopher replied. You leaned back against your desk. Your relationship with Kisa was complicated. You knew about her past and she knew yours. You wouldn't say you were exes but there had been romance.

"Fine, let her come in. It's probably Richie sending her in hopes of making a deal." You shrugged, watching him nod and step out. He returned moments later, letting Kisa enter before he closed the door.

"Long time no see." Kisa said, her signature smirk resting on her pretty face.

"What is it, Santanico?" Her smirk dropped into a frown, clicking her tongue as she crossed her arms.

"Santanico Pandemonium died alongside Malvado. You've always called me Kisa, why stop now?"

"What is it?" You repeated, annoyance evident in your tone. Kisa sighed softly, gaze dropping onto the ground. She pursed her red lips.

"I need a place to stay." Kisa looked back up at you, arms dropping to her sides as she took a step forward.

"Why? Did you and Richie fight?" You asked, brows furrowing slightly. Kisa was never one to ask for genuine help unless necessary. Kisa shook her head, jaw clenching slightly.

"Richard and I broke up." She revealed with a soft sigh. "I realized he was just another version of Carlos and Malvado."

"Seth would've been the better option." You mumbled, shrugging lightly. Kisa rolled her eyes, letting out a soft huff.

"For how long?" You tilted your head, wondering what her plan was. Kisa gave a light shrug.

"I'll figure something out. I just need a place to stay at for a few nights." Kisa replied, gaze softening as she closed the distance.

"Please.. For an old friend?" Kisa tilting her head, raising her hand and gently touching your cheek. Her touch was familiar yet not welcomed. You leaned your head away, rejecting the contact.

"I'll give you two weeks to sort your shit out." You stepped away from her, going around your desk and shutting off your computer. Kisa watched you with a small frown but she stayed silent, nodding.

Hi i love your blog so much!! I'm a huge fan of toxic romance/problematic ships too so it's really fun seeing other people have similar taste. Anyways i was wondering do you have any recs for villain x heroine ship with a poc heroine? I've been thinking about this and there's a lack of poc female leads in dark/problematic romances.

Do you think race plays a part in making creators more hesitant in writing stories with them? Because i feel like there would definitely be more criticism if a heroine was poc and the villain white. Would love to hear your thoughts!

I definitely think that race plays a part in villainous and problematic portrayals of relationships. I’ve mentioned this before but most of the time “villains” are either white or sometimes Latino, very rarely do you encounter black villains. “Heroines” on the other hand are almost always white. If we think back to the beginning of film even we can see this. Just look at Sessue Hayakawa! He was a Japanese actor in America during the 1910-1920s. 

His "broodingly handsome" good looks and typecasting as a sexually dominant villain made him a heartthrob among American women during a time of racial discrimination and he became one of the first male sex symbols of Hollywood. [Wikipedia]

So sexy! But thanks to racism (and the later 1930s Production Code) he wasn’t allowed to be depicted in a romantic relationship unless the woman was Asian as well. So instead he was typically depicted as the villain. In the 1915 film “The Cheat” he BRANDS a woman! Reportedly women screamed (in a good way) when it played in theaters!

What I think is happening now is a swing back of the 1930s Production Code. We’ve gone too far the other way and now we aren’t allowed to depict non-white people as villains, except Latinos. I can also point directly to the demonetization of “Mexicans” and the racism still expressed towards those of Latin decent as the reason why we are allowed to depict them as villains. I think generally a lot of people are still uncomfortable with “mixed” relationships and I think just on that fact we generally get less of it. Then add to the fact that some people are uncomfortable that the “vulnerable” are being menaced, so although white heroines are much more common when we do get non-white heroines I suppose being menaced by white people makes people uncomfortable. I know various TV series and films get criticism for making another “straight white male attractive killer” such as Joe Goldberg from Netflix’s You or the weird amount of flack the film “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile” got for hiring Zac Efron as Ted Bundy because Zac Efron is “attractive” when Ted Bundy was seen as attractive in his time?? That was one of the points of the film?! Still I think the trend is from a desire to show “positive” depictions of non-white people the same way people are reluctant to create negative portrayals of people who happen to be under the LGBTQA+ rainbow. The public wants “strong female” characters, especially strong non-white female characters. I think people forget that “victims” can be strong as well? Still, overall I think people want to just avoid race as much as possible and just make everyone “white” just to avoid any implications. I want to see more non-white villains and heroines! 

Anyway, off the top of my head I recommend Stay (2017), Shadow and Bone (series) and From Dusk Till Dawn (series). Stay (2017) has Devin Books as “Claire”, she has a bit of a mixed ethnic heritage but it includes Mexican and Native American. Her co-star “villain” is white. Shadow and Bone (series) has Jessie Mei Li who is half English, half Chinese; her co-star is English/White. From Dusk Till Dawn (series) is a little odd since I’m including it for Santanico Pandemonium who is played by Eiza González who is Mexican. Santanico was both a villain in the series and later was revealed to be a victim of various bad people. Does she really count? Idk but I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel here. She has various “romantic prospects” (even women) but technically the villain is also Mexican/Latin but I ship her with a white guy (not my OTP but whatever) so idk either. Of course you can always try non-English language shows and films. Again it seems that we only have Latin actors for the most part? It’s hard to think of African American actors for this? Urgh. We need more black actors in this genre!

After parting ways with the Gecko brothers she passes by Santo Padre

She becomes acquainted with the Mayans through Angel

She soon meets the Galindo family and Miguel's mother has many questions for La Diosa and promises to keep her identity a secret from the boys

The Reyes brothers sometimes remind her of the Gecko brothers

Eventually after some ass kicking adventures they part ways as she continues her journey of self discovery and makes a pit stop to visit some old friends

Isabelle Lightwood

She goes MIA from the New York institute while trying to recover from her yin fen addiction

While trying to keep herself distracted she runs into EZ at a club while the Mayans are on a run

They soon connect after a drink or two and she tells him a mundane filtered version of her story

He's interested in her runes(which he calls tattoos)and he asks what each of them mean

They become each other's moral support as he helps her through the withdrawls and she helps him grow from his past

Eventually she has to go back to New York and their short lived romance ends but their friendship stays

"Kisa, you're staring again." Manola cooed. Kisa blinked, looking at the woman beside her. Manola cocked a brow, tilting her head. Kisa scoffed, looking away.

"Don't say it, Manola." Kisa muttered. Manola laughed softly, shaking her head.

"You should talk to him, Kisa." Manola said, arms crossing. (Y/N) grinned, wounds from the fight healing as he grabbed him bomber jacket and slid it on. He stepped out of the ring, glancing up at Kisa. Kisa held eye contact with him until he broke it when he turned away.

"You're quite intimidating, Kisa." Manola said, running a hand through her silky black hair.

"Cállate." Kisa muttered, arms crossing as she leaned back against her throne. Manola giggled, looking back at the ring.

"You're flustered." She pointed out, grinning widely. Kisa huffed, standing and looking at her.

"I'll talk to him."

"Go ahead." Manola raised her hands, a giggle slipping out. Kisa rolled her eyes, heading down the steps. Her eyes scanned the crowd until she spotted (Y/N)'s bomber jacket. She approached one of her guards.

"Get (Y/N) and bring him to my room." She ordered. The guard nodded, stalking away. Kisa headed to her room, approaching the mirror. She fixed her green top and undid the braid Manola had done earlier that day. Kisa swallowed, huffing. She didn't get why she was nervous. Maybe cause her last relationship with Richie Gecko didn't work out.

"You asked for me, Diosa?" (Y/N) entered the room, arms crossing. Kisa faced him, nodding. (Y/N) hummed, eyes scanning the room.

"These past few days, you've been one of my best fighters. You've caught my interest." Kisa told him, smiling coyly. (Y/N) chuckled, giving a slow nod.

"I won't get into trouble with Manola, will I? She knows how to punch." (Y/N) grinned, head tilting. Kisa chuckled, shaking her head as she got closer to him. (Y/N) watched the powerful culebra. Kisa licked her lips, meeting his gaze. Her dark brown eyes stared into his (E/C) ones.

"How about a date?" Kisa asked, butterflies fluttering around her stomach. (Y/N) cocked a brow, head rising a bit.

"A date with you? Many men and women would kill to hear those words." (Y/N) looked her over, thinking about it. Kisa expected him to say yes. After all, she was the Kisa.

"Depends on my schedule." Kisa blinked, staring at him. Her brows furrowed as she stared at (Y/N)'s smug grin. (Y/N) almost chuckled at her expression.

"Qué?" Kisa asked in disbelief.

"Depends on my schedule, princesa." (Y/N) repeated, licking his lips and turning. He headed towards the door, opening it.

"See you around, Diosa." (Y/N) called as he closed the door, throwing her a wink. Kisa stared at the closed door, surprised scoff leaving her. A grin slowly stretched across her face, a soft laugh leaving her.

"That's how you wanna play?" Kisa's eyes narrowed, the grin still on her face.

It’d allstarted when Carlos told her that there was a way for her to escape from thetemple – he had learned that from the other Lords’ emissaries. They would justneed to find the one who would face the trials of the labyrinth and emergevictorious, carrying with him her essence. And he would come, Carlos knew,because there was an ancient prophecy. Malvado didn’t want them to find out,but it had all been written down long ago. One day she would be free.

She didn’tbelieve Carlos. She laughed and spit on his face once he finished his littletale. After all, Carlos would say whatever he thought she wanted to hear toplease her; he wasn’t trustworthy.

But that samenight, she saw him, the one who would set her free – centuries forward. A youngman, with glasses, in an all-black outfit, with his ears glued to a metal box. “You just need to hear for what’s there. Andfor what isn’t.” He murmured – and even though it was in a language she hadnot yet mastered, she could understand him perfectly. He aptly moved hisfingers through the combination disc, pausing every once in a while, andfinally opening the safe to show a bunch of golden bars. He laughed and someoneelse joined, saying, “you’re amotherfucking genius, you know that?” Before she could determine to whomthe second voice belonged to, she woke up.

She had thoughtthe whole thing had been a figment of her imagination, but the visionscontinued, coming whenever she least expected them.

They were notalways linear and the next time she saw Richie in her mind he was nothing but ayoung boy playing with his dog in the backyard. Then all grown up putting a gunon some guy’s face, followed by a teenager fumbling through his first time. Anda child once more, putting his house and father on fire (and she had never beenprouder).

The more shesaw, the more the fell in love with a man who didn’t yet exist, and the easierit became to believe in the prophecy and convince Carlos to help her. She woulddo anything to be free.

(She would doanything to meet him.)

Time passedslowly, but it finally came the moment when she was able to present herself tohim in the flesh and interact. Seduce him, lead him to the Titty Twister and dowhatever it took to prove to him they were meant to be together, as she hadbeen certain of.

Once they’dgotten together, it became easier to get into his mind and talk to him. Theywould use it on their jobs and it was proven useful on more than one occasion.But of course, it didn’t help against Malvado. That time, when she finally sawRichard on her mind, he had already made his (wrong, so wrong) choice. Shenever asked him if he had sensed her back then. It hurt too much to even talkabout it.

And shedidn’t try to contact him again, preferring to have a clean and total break.But it didn’t mean their connection wasn’t present, on the contrary, she couldstill sense him on the back of her mind. Strangely, it became a source ofcomfort and sometimes she wondered if it was the same for him too – if therewas a small part of her on the back of his mind as well. If it was there, didit give him comfort too? Did it also petrify him when he couldn’t reach her?

He comes backfrom hell all in one-piece and in much better shape than she is (Xibalban knifeto her back and all) and she watches relieved from the sidelines as Sethtouches him, reassuring himself that his brother really was back.

Her handitches to stroke his cheek and be able to verify by herself that he is alright,like Seth can. She doesn’t. Instead, Kisa bawls her right hand into a fist and pretendsshe isn’t affected by the thought of him dead, that it didn’t literally bringher to tears moments ago. And pretends it doesn’t affect her that, even thoughhe is back, she still can’t sense him. How is that even possible?

She shouldtalk to him, she knows.

How did you come back?

I’m glad you’re not dead.

It scared me.

She simply went to the bathroom to freshen up, she didn’t expect her to come back and stumble upon (Y/N) being hit on by a very very drunk man, clearly uncomfortable by how close and obnoxious he was being.

For some reason, that made her anger boil, she stomped up to the man and pushed him back hard.

“Don’t you see you’re making her uncomfortable?” She snapped.

“What the fuck? Don’t you see I was having fun? You’re a bitch lady!” 

“True, but I’m not your bitch, so come here and fight me,”

“I don’t think that-”
