Bounded by shadow and blood (2)
azriel x magic!fem!reader
You set your bags down on the palace steps. It’s weird. Something is definitely wrong. Its not like you were expecting a warm greeting home but you were expecting a little something.
The towns people were normal. They all greeted you like everything was fine, and that’s probably because everything for them is fine. Projected security and all.
You handed out the treats to the children and talked with some of them. Specially your favorite of them all, Semaj. He had missed you while you were gone, and you had missed him all the same.
“Hello?” You call out.
If everything were normal, a palace person would have greeted you already. Someone might have actually greeted you in town before you made it up the steps.
You push open the door and find it to be empty inside. Empty and quiet. Which is unusual for a place that holds at least fifty people inside at all times.
You grab your bags and head inside.
First you go to your room to drop off your bags. It’s quiet the whole way there too. Two long hallways then a right turn later. You haven’t seen or heard anyone.
When you drop your bags off you leave you room immediately. Closing the door behind you, you wander the halls. Checking in each room and finding no one. It was almost as if no one had ever lived here.
There is one room that should be busy. You make quick work to get from the east to the west side of the palace.
The council room.
When you reach the double doors you halt. That bad feeling you had intensifies. You pull on both doorknobs with both of your hands and yank the doors open.
At the sound screech you don’t flinch. But at the table filled with council members you do. They all look at you, bewildered, shocked, confused.
“Nice of you to show your face.” Cyril says.
Cyril is the oldest member on the council. He practically raised you and your brother. You parents were too busy ruling over the people to actually raise their children.
Cyril was the man who should have ruled. Your father’s oldest friend with a penchant for people and solutions. He never had kids of his own, always claimed that you and your brother were enough to last a lifetime.
You smile at him, “You’ve grown older since I last been home.”
“Watch your mouth, I have embarrassing stories of you.” He answers.
“While it’s good to see you two catch up, we have urgent matters to discuss.” Another council member says.
Cyril pushes out an empty chair. For you, you think. You close the doors behind you and walk over to it. You take a seat and set your hands on the table like you were trained.
“Welcome back to Sangri, princess.” Another member greets you.
You smile, “it’s good to be back, but I’m only visitng.”
“I fear that the days of you coming and going will soon be over princess.” Cyril says.
You look at him, confused. “What do you mean? Where’s my brother?”
“We don’t know. We haven’t seen him since he left on a expedition a month ago.”
“A month?!” You shout.
You try to compose yourself. A whole month has gone without anyone seeing your brother and you’re only hearing about it now? You can understand that he was on an expedition but you should have been told of it beforehand. Now he’s gone and—
“Princess, we fear the worst.” Cyril speaks.
The worst that could happen to your brother would be death. But even that would be hard to do because he’s not built for it. You’re not fae, you’re blood benders. It would require a lot of knowledge and power to kill a blood bender. If even a drop of blood remains in their body, they can be resurrected.
“Have you searched for him? Have you sent out an inquiry to his last location?” You ask.
“All have been done, no word.” A council member says from your right.
You sigh, “okay so then what does this mean? Do we disintegrate the monarchy? Is there a cousin or a spawn I don’t know about?”
“No, princess. There’s no one else.” Cyril says.
“But you.” Another voice adds.
You look around the room in shock. No. You weren’t made for this. You were specifically not made for this role. All your life you’ve ran from it. You let your brother have it because he’s oldest and he knows best. He doesn’t mind the boring and stiff lifestyle.
“I’m not going to take the throne.” You speak plainly.
“Not right now. Within the charter the council has three months to rule on it’s own before appointing a successor.” Cyril explains.
You begin to shake your head, “Cyril, I am not taking the throne ever.”
“You must.” A voice says.
“No, you haven’t proven my brother dead. And if I were to take the throne and he were still alive we’d all be in breach of the charter.” You argue.
They had thought that you didn’t read the charter. You hated it, absolutely loathed it. But Cyril always made sure you knew exactly what your role could be.
“We think within that time we will have evidence that your brother is dead.” Another voice says.
“Well I don’t. And I’ll go and find him myself if it means I don’t take the throne.” You respond.
“You are free to do so, princess. But you must return if we find something or the three months have passed.”
You get out of your chair, the wood screeching against the marble floor. You don’t say a word to anyone as you walk out of the room.
You should have never returned home.
-
Nesta isn’t interested in the conversation happening around her. Not for nothing, she wanted to be. She just couldn’t get you out of her mind. No she didn’t know you, but she felt like something about you was off when you first met.
She couldn’t see your ears.
“There aren’t any humans in Prythian, right?” She asks out loud.
The conversation being had stops. All eyes on the table are on her. It’s not like she isn’t used to it.
“Of course not, you know that.” Mor answers.
“She’s talking about the women we saw at dawn.” Cassian explains.
“I just don’t get it. She didn’t smell like fae either.” Nesta goes on.
“Maybe she’s Illyrian.” Feyre tries.
“No, I know what they smell like. We all do.” Nesta counters.
“Why does it matter to you so much girl?” Amren asks.
Nesta looks at her. She’s right, it shouldn’t matter to her. There are more important things to care about right now. Like the battles that lies ahead, an unknown enemy. She just can’t shake the feeling that this woman is a part of it somehow.
“It doesn’t.” Nesta lies.
Amren hums her response and goes back to drinking her wine. Everyone at the table starts dispersing and talking amongst themselves again. Nesta doesn’t, she can’t.
She leaves the dinner table a few moments after that, no one stops her. When she leaves the room she runs into Azriel, on his way in from a mission no doubt. She passes by him and thinks to self that maybe she could ask for his help.
She turns around before she can think against it.
“Azriel?”
He turns around without a word. He looks tired, and if Nesta weren’t so suspicious and inquisitive she would let it go. But she isn’t, she can’t.
“There’s some information I’m looking for…”

In Yellowknife on Saturday, dozens of people gathered at the N'dilo gym to honour survivors of residential schools and mourn the children who never made it home.
N'dilo Chief Fred Sangris gave the opening remarks as attendees stood in a circle around a sacred fire.
"Right across the country, truth and reconciliation is happening. But we can never bring back those children…," Sangris said.
"Even though it's a sad time in our lives, we're going to be opening up and talking about the residential schools, to get truth for the many Canadians like yourselves who should know the truth."
The gathering, which was organized by the wellness team at Yellowknives Dene First Nation, was one of many events held across the territory this week for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. [...]

Oh man, I didn't expect that Rhys Darby podcast* to hit me so hard but I am holding back tears right now (on a train, trying not to make a scene).
It's wonderful to hear him talk so freely about his love for the show, and how he was able to do things he didn't even know he could do.
It's incredible hearing him refer to the fanfic and this amazing fandom who will keep the story going
But it's all just so fucking sad. His frustration and upset is very clear. Not just about the cancellation but also about the budget cuts during s2. And I'm glad he's moving on, for his own wellbeing.
I know we're all at different stages in our own journeys through the post-cancellation grief. Personally, I still feel sad and angry (sangry, you might even say); maybe I always will. But I would really like to get to a place where I can enjoy this wonderful piece of art without the sorrow.
Anyway, wherever you all are on your own journeys, know I'm thankful for you and this fandom has been an incredible source of support over the past few months ❤️
*around the 37 minute mark for anyone who just wants to listen to the OFMD cancellation bit

I am very sad, so I wanted to make headcanons about the choir + sadness
Ocean: She tries to pretend like nothing is wrong, but it’s easy to tell when she’s sad. She’ll talk slower, her hair will be messy and her appearance will be disheveled. She doesn’t like being sad, and usually she finds a way to make it pass (usually via music, reading, or reruns of Glee)
Noel: Tragedy is his whole thing. When he’s sad, he wails and cries and complains nonstop. If it’s really bad, he locks himself in his room. He kind of almost…enjoys being sad? The way the mascara runs down his face is tragically beautiful to Noel. Usually he copes by watching an old movie, or curling up beside Mischa and having a good cry with his boyfriend there for comfort.
Mischa: Mischa doesn’t get sad. He gets ANGRY. When something happens, he just wants to rip and tear and punch and bite and kick. So when he gets sad/angry (sangry? Ad?) he tears up paper or old schoolwork, or just yells his heart out…then he raps about money in autotune. He stops to catch his breath, and that’s when one of his friends is able to comfort him.
Ricky: Ricky feels sadness by going numb. When something makes him upset, he shuts himself away from the world and zones out, imagining a better place, Zolar, where whatever makes him sad isn’t happening. He doesn’t cry. He doesn’t even shed a tear. He just sits, and let the sadness boil to the surface and evaporate away.
Jane Doe: Jane’s (after)life is built off of sadness, it doesn’t feel much else. Jane knows no ways to cope with sadness, because sadness is all doll feels to begin with. I guess the real question is, how would she feel if she was happy?
Penny: Penny shrieks and cries and bites when she’s upset. Her whole body shakes and she breaks down and sobs. The only way to calm down for her is to hug a plushie, or scribble it all out in a drawing and colour outside the lines.
Constance: Connie has learned to cry quietly. The last thing she wants is for her family and friends to worry about little old her, after all! The truth is, Constance knows how to be sad better than anyone, and she cries often. Gentle little cries alone in her room, it’s the only way she’ll take it.

Episode 136 - 7.10 Death's Door
Welcome to another episode, it's time to feel Sad and Angry... sangry? That's right, Bobby dies.
Sam is sad, but struggling hard to maintain his grip on reality, and it hurts him deeply that he can't fully mourn Bobby. I mean, we can't see it here, but just imagine how horrible the Hallucifer in his head could be in this situation. His beloved father figure dying could've proved nightmare fuel for Hallucifer.
And Dean is just furious about it, but hey, at least he's feeling something other than the nihilistic depression? He finally had a specific, direct target for all that pain, and it's one Mr. Dick Roman, Leviathan.
Do they have any idea how to actually kill him? Well, no. But that doesn't matter to Dean's anger.
And then Bobby (and Rufus! how awesome is it to see Rufus again, even in this horrible circumstance). I think nearly everyone is still mad about Bobby. :'D

Dinner on the Dunes: A Magical Evening in the Heart of Jaisalmer

Imagine the sun slowly setting behind golden sand dunes, the air filled with the sound of Rajasthani folk music, and the aroma of authentic Indian cuisine wafting through the desert air. Welcome to Dinner on Dunes in Jaisalmer—a magical evening that blends natural beauty, cultural richness, and culinary delight into one unforgettable experience.
Set against the captivating backdrop of the Thar Desert, this one-of-a-kind dining event is one of the most cherished highlights for travelers visiting Rajasthan. Whether you are a couple looking for a romantic escape, a family in search of unique experiences, or a solo traveler hungry for authentic adventures, an evening of Dinner on the Dunes in Jaisalmer promises moments that stay with you long after the trip ends.
What is Dinner on the Dunes?
"Dinner on the Dunes" is an immersive experience that combines outdoor dining with Rajasthani hospitality and entertainment. Typically hosted by a Desert Camp in Jaisalmer, this evening includes:
A scenic drive or camel ride into the heart of the desert
Seating arrangements set up on the dunes under the open sky
A buffet or traditional thali dinner made with local ingredients
Cultural performances including folk music and Kalbelia dance
A serene environment perfect for stargazing and peaceful reflection
Unlike a regular restaurant meal, dinner on the dunes is an event—crafted to appeal to all your senses.
Starting the Evening: The Journey to the Dunes
Your magical evening usually begins with a pickup from your hotel or Desert Camp in Jaisalmer. From there, you’re transported into the desert, either via jeep or camel safari. As you move farther from the city, the landscape changes dramatically—urban life gives way to vast stretches of golden sand, dotted with acacia trees and the occasional herd of camels.
Many camps offer camel rides at sunset, allowing you to experience the golden hour in the most traditional way possible. Riding atop a camel as the sun dips below the dunes is both calming and awe-inspiring.
Arriving at the Dining Spot
As you arrive at the dining location, you’ll find beautifully arranged seating—often low tables with cushions and rugs, lanterns, and small bonfires for warmth and ambiance. The setting is minimal yet elegant, highlighting the natural beauty of the desert.
Depending on your package or preferences, your dinner setup may be private for couples or shared in a community-style arrangement for larger groups. In either case, the atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming, and culturally enriching.
Cultural Performances and Live Entertainment
Before dinner is served, the evening usually features a live cultural performance. Talented local artists take the stage—often a small carpeted area in the sand—to perform traditional Rajasthani folk music and dance.
The Kalbelia dance, known for its graceful, serpentine movements, is particularly mesmerizing under the starlit sky. Musicians play instruments like the dholak, sarangi, and kartal, creating an authentic soundscape that transports you to the soul of Rajasthan.
Guests are often invited to join the dancers toward the end—making the evening both interactive and festive.
The Culinary Delight: A Taste of Rajasthan
Dinner is the heart of the evening. Served hot and fresh, the menu typically includes:
Dal Baati Churma – A Rajasthani classic featuring baked wheat balls, lentil curry, and sweetened crushed wheat
Ker Sangri – A tangy, spicy dish made from desert beans and berries
Gatte ki Sabzi – Gram flour dumplings in spicy yogurt curry
Rajasthani Rotis – Breads like bajra and makka roti cooked on open flames
Traditional Sweets – Like ghevar, malpua, or moong dal halwa
Whether served buffet-style or as a plated thali, the food is rich in flavor and deeply rooted in the local culture. Everything is cooked with local spices and traditional techniques, often in clay ovens or over firewood, enhancing the authenticity of the meal.
The Serenity of the Desert Night
As dinner winds down, the atmosphere becomes quieter. The music softens, the fire crackles, and stars begin to pepper the sky in ways rarely seen from cities. The Thar Desert offers some of the clearest night skies in India, making it perfect for stargazing.
Some camps even offer telescopes or astronomy sessions, turning your evening into a cosmic adventure.
Combining Dinner with a Desert Camp Stay
Many travelers choose to combine their Dinner on the Dunes in Jaisalmer with an overnight stay at a Desert Camp in Jaisalmer. These camps range from budget-friendly options with basic tents to luxury setups with en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, and curated experiences.
Staying overnight lets you fully absorb the desert’s magic—from sunrise camel rides to early morning tea on the dunes. It's the perfect extension of an already unforgettable evening.
Tips for the Best Experience
Book in Advance: Especially during peak season (October–March), reservations fill quickly.
Dress Comfortably: Wear breathable clothes for the day and carry something warm for the evening.
Camera Ready: The lighting, performances, and landscapes make for incredible photos.
Respect Local Culture: Be mindful of dress codes and always tip performers if appropriate.
Choose Eco-Friendly Camps: Look for camps that emphasize sustainability and ethical tourism.
Final Thoughts
There are many ways to experience Rajasthan, but few are as enchanting as a Dinner on Dunes in Jaisalmer. It’s more than a meal—it’s a journey through flavor, music, and nature. With the desert stretching around you, a starry sky overhead, and the rhythms of Rajasthani culture in the air, you’ll find a rare kind of magic that touches the soul.
Pair this unforgettable evening with a stay at a Desert Camp in Jaisalmer and you’ll have a travel memory unlike any other—one that blends adventure, romance, and heritage in the most beautiful setting imaginable.

Power feels like loneliness. All these years that you have run from it, you didn’t know exactly what you were running from. You knew all the rules and pomp and circumstance. But you didn’t know this, this feeling now that stabs at every part of your heart.
Loneliness. You’ve never had the time to feel it. You had your parents, and when they were gone you had the council and your brother. And when you left you had other people, Thesan and Amren being one of them.
As you’re sitting in your room now, it’s all you can feel. An empty palace. An empty shell of yourself. All of it is empty.
A knock comes from the door of your room. You look over at the door passively. You can’t speak anymore, you can’t cry anymore either. You’ve done enough of both over the past few days.
The door opens and Amren pokes her head inside.
“I know you probably don’t want to hear this but you need to get out of this room.” She says.
You sigh and get up from the chair you’ve occupied for hours now. But you head away from her and toward the balcony. You know she’ll join you, and you’re confirmed right when you feel her by your side.
“I’m sorry, I failed you. I should have come sooner.” She apologizes.
You look at her in confusion, “Amren my brother’s fate was already sealed. And it isn’t your fault any of this happened.”
You voice is groggy and dry. The cons of not talking in days to anyone.
“What do you do now?” She asks.
Turning your eyes away from her you look out into the distance. From here you could see the blood river. You grip the metal banister of the balcony tighter. The only way you know any of this is real. The cold of the metal against your palms. The wind touching your skin.
“I don’t know. I never wanted this, but I can’t run from it any longer. I’m the empress.” You answer slowly.
“I’ll join you.” She says.
“I couldn’t ask you—“ you start.
“You don’t have to ask. I’ve already told Rhysand that I’ll be here from now on.” She cuts you off.
You look at her then in shock. Not that you are surprised that she would do something like this for you. She had told you as such. But it’s the feeling in your chest that you get from hearing her words.
Maybe a tiny part of the loneliness you feel right now, turns into something warm. Something, not lonely.
You wrap your arms around her. Amren engulfs you in a hug. It feels good. Home hasn’t felt like home in a long time but maybe if she’s here, it can be. You can make it home with Amren by your side.
-
Azriel wanted nothing more than to just go back to Sangri. Back to you. It sucks that Amren is the only one who got to stay. Well, she outright told Rhysand that if he asked for her at this time she wouldn’t come. Azriel should have said the same.
It’s been days since everything went down. You killing your ex husband, your brother dying, you assuming the throne. Never did Azriel think he’d be in this position.
In love with an empress.
Not only that, but by your people’s culture you were already married. It’s one of the things he’s been tossing and turning about in the night. Is he some type of royalty now?
Is that why when he visited the village no one was scared of him? Because they could smell your blood on him?
And the biggest question of all he has, why did you offer it to him knowing what it meant?
These questions swirl his mind now. He’s too preoccupied to talk at this family dinner. Everyone besides Amren is here at the table. Elaine at his right side. Cassian at his left. Nesta across from her mate. Feyre at her sister’s side and Rhysand next.
“Brother, are you with us?” Rhysand asks.
Azriel looks up from his plate. He had been pushing his food around. Nothing could go down after all that he witnessed. All that he heard and saw.
“He just needs time to forget what happened.” Elaine answers for him.
Azriel doesn’t even pass her a glance. Yes, he and Elaine had something going on. Longing glances, delicate touches and sweet words. But he never let it pass that line. Lucien was her mate as much as it bothered him. And then came you. And he hasn’t looked back since.
“I can’t forget it.” He says.
“I told all of them to get you out of there, but none of them listened to me.” Elaine goes on.
“Elaine…” Feyre trailed off.
“It’s the truth! Look at him, he can’t eat, he hardly sleeps and when he’s with us he’s barely here.” Elaine speaks.
“I don’t think—I need to go back.” Azriel surmises and gets out of his seat at once.
Elaine bolts out of her seat too, “You almost died there, no thanks to your new friend.”
Everyone in the room looks at her now. And while rage should be reserved for Azriel at the mention of calling his mate his friend, the rage rests with Morrigan. She slams her fist on the table, causing a commotion of metal against porcelain.
“She is not my friend, she is my mate.” Azriel says.
“Don’t say that—it doesn’t mean the same thing to her, she’s not fae. She doesn’t feel it.” Elaine tries again.
She reaches over for Azriel’s hand but he takes a step back. Hurt washes over the female in front of him and then anger. Subtle anger, a slight frown and a tense brow.
“Why do you want her?” Elaine asks.
Azriel shakes his head, “I need her. She makes me, me. She is probably the only person to see me for who I am completely and look me in the eye.”
“Azriel that’s not true. I see you! I’ve known you longer and—“ Elaine tries one last time.
“It doesn’t matter, she needs me. I’m leaving.” Azriel speak finally. Then without another word he’s winnowing out of the dinning room. Out of Velaris. And out of the night court. He’s on his way to you. He doesn’t know why he left in the first place. -
The blood river helped distract you at times. It wasn’t really a distraction, but more of a calmness. You could try to make peace with what happened here, as the waves lap at your feet.
You look down at your wrist.
He had left but his shadow stayed. You’re not sure how you feel about that. It was fairly quick too. He told you goodbye and left with his family. It’s not like you were expecting something big. But you were expecting something.
In all of your years you never felt something like this for someone. People have com and go but this knot in your stomach that you feel when you think about him doesn’t unravel. Knowing that he’s got your blood running through his veins also doesn’t help.
Semaj asked you about him today. You had finally left the palace. Amren locked you out of your room and told you to go somewhere, anywhere that wasn’t there. And you took her up on it. You walked right out the front door.
You went to the village, where everyone held off on greeting you. They bowed their heads in grief. They offered you no necklaces, no songs or ale.
When you got to Semaj’s family’s house they welcomed you with open arms. They cooked you a meal as you sat with Semaj and asked him about how he was doing.
It didn’t take long for him to short cut your questions and ask you his own. Particularly when your ‘husband’ was coming back. You’re lucky that you covered his mouth that day he found you and Azriel. He surely would have let it slip then.
You told him you didn’t know, and that even though your blood was in his veins it didn’t mean the same thing to him as it does to everyone else here. Semaj of course didn’t believe it but he let you sit in silence after that.
It felt weird being in their house as anything other than a guest. So you left after you ate and promised Semaj that you would be back soon. You walked to the blood river and now here you are.
Staring at a shadow wrapped around your wrist. Sitting by the blood river as the sun sets. You kick the water with your feet over and over.
Then you feel it. You feel him.
You turn around quickly. He’s standing there a few meters ahead of you. He’s dressed in his leathers again. And he’s looking right at you, even though he’s far away you can feel it. You watch as he winnows in front of you. You have to crane your head up to view him now.
“Did Amren tell you I was here?” You ask.
Azriel shakes his head, “I knew you would be here.”
He doesn’t say another word. And neither do you. He sits down next to you and removes his shoes. He places them on his right side, away from the both of you. He lowers his feet into the water.
You bite the inside of your cheek. The feeling of the shadow on your wrist moving now apparent. You look down at it. Once you do, it shoots from your wrist and up to your arm. You can’t fight the ticklish feeling and so you let out a chuckle.
This makes Azriel look at you. He doesn’t seem surprised to see one of his shadows on you now.
“Was this shadow telling you how I was doing?” You ask him now.
Azriel laughs softly to himself. “When it comes to you, the shadows have a mind of their own.”
You two take a moment. There is so much between you right now, unexplainable things and things you are cautious to gauge now. You’ve known him for less than a year and yet here you are.
You turn to him, “Do you want to talk about what Kynas said. About us?”
Azriel shrugs his shoulders. “It doesn’t bother me.”
Your brows furrow at this. Impossible man. How does he go on and say things like this? How does he look you in the eyes and drink your blood? How does he exist to challenge everything you've ever known.
“Okay, but does it bother Elaine?” You ask
He looks at you then. An unreadable look on his face. You can’t tell if he’s annoyed or mad, or indifferent. This is weird territory right now.
“She doesn’t know. None of them do.” He answers.
You turn back to the river again. Secrets. He asked you to keep the secret of Velaris. You kept his secret that he wasn’t stuck here when the wards were still up. And now he’s keeping this secret.
“Semaj asked when my husband was returning.” You say.
Azriel stifles a laugh as best he can but you still hear it. You can’t help to laugh yourself. You remember the last time you laughed with him. How an expansive dam seemed to break and suddenly you were crying and breaking down.
It’s all or nothing with Azriel you realize in this moment. All or nothing.
“I’m sorry I left, I should have stayed. I don’t know why I didn’t.” He says and cuts the silence.
“Trust me, if I could leave I would too.” You confide in him, then you think about what he’s saying a bit longer, “you wanted to be with your family. I get it.”
“I didn’t want to leave. I wanted them to know I was okay.” Azriel says quickly.
You pull your feet up to the ground. Bringing your knees to your chest. The water makes your feet cold as it dries off. With your arms wrapped around your legs you lay your head down and look at him from the side.
“Do you forget you’re not bound here shadow singer? You never were.” You speak.
Azriel shakes his head, “I wasn’t bound by the wards, nor by your blood. But something else.”
It’s opened ended. As if you are supposed to know what he’s talking about. And a part of you does. The part of you that remembered what he said that day you broke down. How he stayed to get to know you.
You had that lesson at a younger age. People only what to get to know you for four reasons. Power, information, revenge or love. You can immediately strike down power and revenge with Azriel. But only one of the other two scare you. And it wasn’t information.
You take him in now. How he stills looks like he fits right in here. How his skin glistens in the soft sunset. His wings are a bit tucked but otherwise he doesn’t look uncomfortable here.
“Rhysand talks of war like it’s on the horizon, and yet here you are.” You say carefully.
He looks at you now. With intent, you realize. His head is turned to you and his eyes are on you. There is no way to mistake that he is looking at you and nothing else.
“Here I am…” he trails off.
“I hope you don’t think our marriage status absolves you from cleaning while you’re here.” You joke.
Azriel smiles, “Is that an order from the empress or my wife?”
“I guess we’ll find out.”

Exploring Udaipur's Royal Charm with a Stay at the Best Luxury Hotel in Udaipur
A City Drenched in Royalty and Romance
The very name Udaipur conjures images of shimmering lakes, magnificent palaces, vibrant markets, and echoes of royal grandeur. Set against the backdrop of the Aravalli Hills, this city has been captivating travelers for centuries. It’s not just a destination; it’s an experience layered with culture, heritage, and an ethereal calm. When I finally decided to explore this regal city, I knew that my choice of stay would significantly influence my journey. That’s how I discovered Hotel Varju Villa, regarded by many as the best luxury hotel in Udaipur.
This boutique marvel not only complemented the city’s majestic energy but also enhanced it. With its harmonious blend of tradition and sophistication, Hotel Varju Villa stood as a modern-day palace offering me a front-row seat to Udaipur’s timeless beauty
Stepping Into Rajasthani Elegance
As I entered the hotel, I was greeted by architecture that paid homage to Rajasthan’s regal legacy. Arched doorways, jharokha windows, and heritage-inspired interiors set the tone for what was to become one of my most memorable travel experiences. The lobby felt less like a reception area and more like a living museum, filled with handcrafted furniture, traditional murals, and the calming scent of rose and sandalwood in the air
Every hallway at Varju Villa whispers tales of Mewar’s noble past. Yet nothing felt outdated. Modern amenities were seamlessly interwoven with royal aesthetics. Whether it was high-speed Wi-Fi, smart televisions, or mood lighting, everything was designed to ensure both comfort and class, making it the perfect luxury hotel in Udaipur for royal living
Discovering the Soul of the City Through My Stay
From the rooftop of Hotel Varju Villa, the city unfolded like a miniature painting—whitewashed havelis, the shimmering Lake Pichola, and distant domes of centuries-old palaces. I began my mornings here with fresh juice and the aroma of masala chai, watching as the sun softly illuminated the marble facades below
Udaipur’s magic lies not just in what you see but in how it makes you feel. And Varju Villa amplified that feeling. The hotel staff helped curate my days with authentic local experiences—from heritage walks through the old city to guided visits to the City Palace and boat rides that floated me past historic ghats and temples
The central location of Hotel Varju Villa made exploring effortless. Within minutes, I could be wandering through Jagdish Temple, photographing peacocks at Saheliyon Ki Bari, or bargaining for silver jewelry and miniature paintings at Hathi Pol Bazaar
A Royal Feast Fit for Every Guest
While Udaipur’s streets are filled with culinary delights, I found myself drawn time and again to the hotel’s in-house vegetarian restaurant. Much more than a dining space, it felt like a cultural theater where the flavors of Rajasthan came alive. From ker sangri and gatte ki sabzi to soft phulkas and chilled chaas, every dish told a story
One evening, under the starlit rooftop, I savored a candle-lit dinner that remains etched in memory. The soft strains of traditional music in the background, a mild breeze carrying the scent of jasmine, and a platter of perfectly spiced dal baati churma—it was less a meal and more a soulful celebration
This dedication to authentic flavor and presentation places Varju Villa among the best foodie destinations in Udaipur, especially for those who appreciate gourmet vegetarian cuisine in an atmosphere soaked in ambiance
Experiencing Heritage Through Luxury
There’s something transformative about staying in a place that doesn’t just offer you a bed but wraps you in its history. Hotel Varju Villa achieved that effortlessly. The decor inside my room was deeply evocative—jaali work screens cast intricate shadows, brass lamps flickered gently in the evenings, and the headboard bore motifs of peacocks and lotuses
Unlike many luxury resorts in Udaipur that lean heavily into modernity, Varju Villa retains its cultural essence. Here, I wasn’t just a visitor; I was a part of the city’s living tradition. The hotel became my personal haveli—intimate, elegant, and richly authentic
Even the staff uniforms, music choices, and evening rituals such as diya lighting in the courtyard reflected a commitment to honoring Udaipur’s royal legacy while providing five-star comfort
A Home for Romance and Reflection
Though I was traveling with a close friend, I saw couples in every corner of the hotel—celebrating honeymoons, anniversaries, and quiet getaways. The setting lends itself beautifully to romance. Private balconies, rose petal turndown service, and exclusive rooftop dining made it clear why Hotel Varju Villa is often recommended as a romantic luxury hotel in Udaipur
At the same time, it is equally appealing for introspective solo travelers and families alike. Quiet reading nooks, meditation spaces, and friendly common areas make it inclusive without losing its exclusivity. It is rare to find a hotel that balances intimacy and openness so effortlessly
Wellness in the City of Tranquility
Each morning, the hotel offered yoga mats and the opportunity to join sunrise yoga sessions on the rooftop. I found this to be a rejuvenating experience that grounded me before each day’s adventures. After long hours of exploration, returning to the serene environment of Hotel Varju Villa was like stepping into a spa for the soul
The hotel doesn’t have a traditional spa but offers wellness services on request—such as in-room massages with herbal oils, aromatherapy baths, and access to Ayurvedic consultations. As someone who often seeks mindful travel, this aspect added immense value to my stay
In a city known for its visual drama, this quiet attention to inner balance made Varju Villa a standout among premium wellness hotels in Udaipur
Personalized Experiences That Make All the Difference
What impressed me most was the personal attention I received. From being addressed by name to having a staff member remember my dietary preference for no onions in curries, the service was deeply human. One evening, I returned from a visit to Sajjangarh Fort to find a small note in my room, suggesting a playlist of Rajasthani folk songs for my evening relaxation
It’s this emotional intelligence—this ability to anticipate and personalize—that elevates Hotel Varju Villa above even some five-star chains. The hotel didn’t just offer me service; it offered a relationship
This is the kind of place that remembers your story and makes you want to return—not just for the marble floors or the luxury linens, but for the people and the way they made you feel
Rooted in Responsibility and Sustainability
As I grew more attached to the hotel, I began to notice the little things it did to support sustainability. Refillable toiletry dispensers, energy-saving devices, no plastic straws, and partnerships with local artisans all spoke of a brand that cared beyond profits
Supporting the local community through employment and showcasing regional crafts within the decor shows that Hotel Varju Villa is aligned with global standards of eco-conscious luxury. For modern travelers who want their spending to support ethical practices, this makes it one of the most sustainable luxury hotels in Udaipur
Living the Udaipur Dream
My last evening at the hotel was one I will never forget. I sat alone on the rooftop, a cup of spiced kahwa in hand, watching the city lights flicker on one by one. Below me, the city was alive with celebration—a wedding procession, the distant beat of a dhol, the shimmer of fireworks in the sky
At that moment, I understood what makes Udaipur so special. It’s not just its palaces or its lakes. It’s the way it embraces you. And Hotel Varju Villa, with its heart rooted in Rajasthani hospitality and its soul attuned to modern luxury, is the best place to experience that embrace
Conclusion: Why Hotel Varju Villa is the Best Luxury Hotel in Udaipur for Cultural Explorers
If Udaipur is the crown jewel of Rajasthan, then Hotel Varju Villa is its most polished gem. It embodies everything that makes the city extraordinary—grandeur, grace, and a deep connection to heritage. It offers all the indulgence of a top-tier luxury stay, while keeping the heart of Udaipur beating in every hallway, every plate, and every gesture
Whether you're here for a honeymoon, a cultural escape, or a romantic retreat into royal nostalgia, Varju Villa offers an experience that is both luxurious and soul-satisfying. It’s not just a stay; it’s a story—and one that stays with you long after your bags are packed
For those who seek beauty with depth, opulence with meaning, and service with soul, there is no better choice than Hotel Varju Villa—the true best luxury hotel in Udaipur.
