"Do not remake Sholay or Mother India. So, why should I remake Sangam? Bhansali responded, forcefully dismissing the comparisons. The film, which has already received widespread acclaim, marks Bhansali's return with Ranbir Kapoor after 18 years apart, following their work in Saawariya (2007).

Singer Lee Hyun successfully made his debut as a radio DJ on ‘Close Friends with Lee Hyun,’ with the special support of his labelmate BTS J-Hope.
The first broadcast of MBC FM4U’s ‘Close Friends with Lee Hyun’ aired at midnight on November 25th KST. This marks Lee Hyun’s first radio program under his own name since his debut. BTS J-Hope joined the show as the first guest, showcasing their close bond. Despite his busy schedule, J-Hope made time to support Lee Hyun’s new endeavor.
J-Hope arrived with a congratulatory bouquet and joined the first segment, “Sangam-dong Studio.” He shared, “It’s meaningful to be part of this important moment, Lee Hyun’s first radio show,” energizing the program with his bright presence.

The Sarasvati River (IAST: Sárasvatī-nadī́) is a mythologized and deified ancient river first mentioned in the Rigveda[1] and later in Vedic and post-Vedic texts. It played an important role in the Vedic religion, appearing in all but the fourth book of the Rigveda.
As a physical river in the oldest texts of the Rigveda, it is described as a "great and holy river in north-western India,"[2] but in the middle and late Rigvedic books, it is described as a small river ending in "a terminal lake (samudra)."[3][b] As the goddess Sarasvati, the other referent for the term "Sarasvati" which developed into an independent identity in post-Vedic times.[4] The river is also described as a powerful river and mighty flood.[5] The Sarasvati is also considered by Hindus to exist in a metaphysical form, in which it formed a confluence with the sacred rivers Ganges and Yamuna, at the Triveni Sangam.[6]
Rigvedic and later Vedic texts have been used to propose identification with present-day rivers, or ancient riverbeds. The Nadistuti hymn in the Rigveda (10.75) mentions the Sarasvati between the Yamuna in the east and the Sutlej in the west, while RV 7.95.1-2, describes the Sarasvati as flowing to the samudra, a word now usually translated as 'ocean',[c] but which could also mean "lake."[3][8][9][10][d] Later Vedic texts such as the Tandya Brahmana and the Jaiminiya Brahmana, as well as the Mahabharata, mention that the Sarasvati dried up in a desert.
Since the late 19th century, numerous scholars have proposed to identify the Sarasvati with the Ghaggar-Hakra River system, which flows through modern-day northwestern-India and eastern-Pakistan, between the Yamuna and the Sutlej, and ends in the Thar desert. Recent geophysical research shows that the supposed downstream Ghaggar-Hakra paleochannel is actually a paleochannel of the Sutlej, which flowed into the Nara river, a delta channel of the Indus River. Around 10,000-8,000 years ago, this channel was abandoned when the Sutlej diverted its course, leaving the Ghaggar-Hakra as a system of monsoon-fed rivers which did not reach the sea.[11][12][13][14]
The Indus Valley Civilisation prospered when the monsoons that fed the rivers diminished around 5,000 years ago.[11][13][14][e] and ISRO has observed that major Indus Valley civilization sites at Kalibangan (Rajasthan), Banawali and Rakhigarhi (Haryana), Dholavira and Lothal (Gujarat) lay along this course.[15][web 1] When the monsoons that fed the rivers further diminished, the Hakra dried-up some 4,000 years ago, becoming an intermittent river, and the urban Harappan civilisation declined, becoming localized in smaller agricultural communities.[11][f][13][12][14]
Identification of a mighty physical Rigvedic Sarasvati with the Ghaggar-Hakra system is therefore problematic, since the Gagghar-Hakra had dried up well before the time of the composition of the Rigveda.[16][17][f][13][12][14] In the words of Wilke and Moebus, the Sarasvati had been reduced to a "small, sorry trickle in the desert" by the time that the Vedic people migrated into north-west India.[18] Rigvedic references to a physical river also indicate that the Sarasvati "had already lost its main source of water supply and must have ended in a terminal lake (samudra) approximately 3000 years ago,"[3][b] "depicting the present-day situation, with the Sarasvatī having lost most of its water."[19][b][20] Also, Rigvedic descriptions of the Sarasvati do not fit the actual course of the Gagghar-Hakra.[21][22]
The identification with the Ghaggar-Hakra system took on new significance in the early 21st century,[24] with some Hindutva proponents suggesting an earlier dating of the Rigveda; renaming the Indus Valley Civilisation as the "Sarasvati culture", the "Sarasvati Civilization", the "Indus-Sarasvati Civilization" or the "Sindhu-Sarasvati Civilization,"[25][26][27] suggesting that the Indus Valley and Vedic cultures can be equated;[28] and rejecting the Indo-Aryan migrations theory, which postulates an extended period of migrations of Indo-European speaking people into the Indian subcontinent between ca. 1900 BCE and 1400 BCE.[h][i]

1 - THE FISH WHO CASTS THE NET
Kanthallur Salai, Vizhinjam
Coconut trees lined the roads of Vizhinjam and the open view of the green sea merged with the blue sky on the distant horizon. The streets were filled with merchants and noisy customers. Bhaskaran and Ravidasan enjoyed their holiday. It isn't everyday that they get such an opportunity to leave the salai and wander in the town or harbour.
They felt really tired and decided to get ilaneer from a man who was selling them under a Banyan tree opposite the salai. The friendly cheerful man took two tender coconuts, cut off the top and handed it over to them. His movements betrayed a particular stiffness. Maybe he is new to the trade or not used to this sort of manual labour.
"Chatta, ask your friend to day-dream after finishing his ilaneer". The vendor's words woke him up from his thoughts. Bhaskaran observed that he hasn't seen him around this place. The ilaneer seller admited that he is new to this place and trade and is trying to eke out a living here.
So that's it. The seller enquired about their names, specialisations and complained about the troubles of his job.
"What is your name, anna?"
"Veeran. Bhaskara, what are you planning to do after you complete your studies?"
Bhaskaran explained his plans in detail. He will go to Manyakheta and study more mathematics. Then he will go to Nalanda.
"Why do you want to go to the northern countries?"
"Knowledge has no boundaries".
"There are thousands of learned men in Nalanda. Who will care about one more guy? Why don't you go to the nearby Pandya country?"
Bhaskaran and Ravidasan looked each other and laughed. Everyone knew that Pandya king Rajasimhan had run away to after getting beaten by Cholas. Ravidasan's blood used to boil when he first arrived here and everyone talked about it. But what can a normal man like him do? In the course of time, he too has learned to laugh about it. The ilaneer seller noticed the change in his expression.
"Ummmm? Do you too think that going to the Pandya country is beneath you?"
"Get lost idiot! Who told you that Pandya country doesn't have educated men? Haven't you heard about the great sangams?"
For some reason, the vendor looked really proud of his ignorance. But he shrugged his shoulders and declared that there is no Pandya country anymore because no one even knows what happened to the runaway king. Then he started another argument with Bhaskaran.
"Isn't running away better than sure death? Ravi annan can explain it better than me. He has studied Arthashastram".
"Yes, there is no shame in strategic retreat."
Bhaskaran gave a few coins to the ilaneer vendor. He put the coins in a satchel and returned the change. He asked Ravidasan if he will stay back and help him as he is struggling to do this job alone. Ravidasan wanted to tease him that it will be easier if he concentrates on his job instead of talking incessantly but his curiosity was killing him. Moreover, he offered sufficient payment for his troubles.
Another batch of students from rasayana and kalari batches approached them. Among them was Udayan, a prince of Anuradhapura. Ravidasan knew about his real identity only because he was one of his examiners in the entrance examination. In Kanthallur, he walked among the students and the common people as another man.
"Raviyanna, have you too started selling coconuts? Did you fail in the examinations?"
"Dei, dei, don't be too oversmart".
His employer enjoyed his banter with the juniors and enquired about their future plans. Ravidasan sensed that he had some special interest in Udayan who seemed oblivious to his intentions. Didn't he say that he is new to the job? Can't he be a spy? He sent them away quickly without further chit-chat. He tried to pry out the ilaneer seller's family details and history but he evaded his questions.
"Thambi, I will tell you a secret. I heard your countrymen have plans to resurrect the old rule. Don't tell this to anyone. You know, I go to different places and meet different people with these ilaneer."
"Good for them, I guess. Where is my money?"
He wrapped up his belongings and gave a small gold coin to Ravidasan. Though he protested that he doesn't have enough money to return the change, the vendor insisted that he keep it.
"Would you like a job in the Pandya kingdom? I can put you in touch with the relevant people, maybe even the king if you are lucky".
"Why don't you get a job for yourself if you are friends with the king?"
"He gave me this job."
"I knew it". Ravidasan grabbed the ilaneer seller from behind and dragged him to the back of the banyan tree. "So you are not an ilaneer seller who happened to hear things, are you? You are a spy who pretends to be an ilaneer seller."
"I know that you noticed. That's why I asked only you to stay back. Tell me this, would you like to have a job in the Pandya country?'
"What job? Collecting tax for Parantaka Cholan?"
"Isn't that a good job?"
What! Is this the Pandya king's plan? Maybe he can ask him in person if he takes this opportunity.
"What should I do?"
"Go to the Pazhaya Maligai of Nanjinattu Pillai on the next Friday at midnight. Show this coin and say that I sent you. Remember my name - Veeran'.
He freed himself from Ravidasan's grip and walked away.

Beyond its spiritual significance, the Maha Kumbh has historically served as a platform for deliberating on the pressing socio-political issues of its time. It was not merely a religious congregation but a site where political movements were nurtured, cultural pride was reasserted, and resistance to imperial powers was born. This dual identity—spiritual and political—underscores the essence of the Maha Kumbh and its unparalleled role in shaping Bharat’s history. The Spark of 1857: Maha Kumbh and the First War of Independence The Maha Kumbh’s contribution to Bharat’s struggle for independence began during the pivotal year of 1857, when the country witnessed its first war of independence. Amidst the uprising, Prayagwal priests, led by figures like Pandit Radheshyam, spearheaded resistance against British imperialism. Incensed by the British-supported Christian missionary activities that demonized Hindu traditions, the Prayagwals and local leaders took a stand, making the Kumbh Mela a site of rebellion. The British, recognizing the unifying power of the Kumbh, sought to dismantle its influence. In a calculated move, British Colonel Neel bombarded the Kumbh site in 1857, hoping to quell the growing dissent. Yet, the defiance of figures like Pandit Radheshyam—who was eventually hanged for his efforts—became a symbol of resistance that reverberated across the nation. Following the rebellion, the British converted the Kumbh area into a cantonment, restricting entry and banning akhadas from participating. The Sangam Teerth, the spiritual epicenter of the Kumbh, was guarded zealously, and access was limited to one or two priests. Despite these restrictions, the Kumbh remained a hotbed of nationalist activity, inspiring future generations to fight against colonial oppression. Kumbh’s Role in Nurturing Nationalist Movements While the 1857 rebellion marked the beginning of the Kumbh’s political significance, its impact grew over the decades. The Kumbh became a meeting point for leaders, thinkers, and revolutionaries who sought to awaken Bharat’s collective consciousness. In the 1906 Kumbh, the Sanatan Dharm Sabha, under the leadership of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, pledged to establish the Banaras Hindu University (BHU). This institution was envisioned as a bastion of Bharatiya culture and knowledge, countering British propaganda that sought to undermine Bharat’s intellectual and cultural heritage. BHU went on to play a critical role in the independence movement, with its students and faculty participating in the Non-Cooperation Movement and aiding freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru. The university’s hostels became sanctuaries for revolutionaries, while its classrooms inspired a generation of youth to fight for Bharat’s freedom. The British, acutely aware of the Kumbh’s role in fostering resistance, monitored the event closely. During the 1942 Quit India Movement, rumors of Japanese bombing at the Sangam Teerth were deliberately spread to deter attendance, showcasing the colonial administration’s fear of the Kumbh’s potential to ignite mass uprisings. You may have heard the soft flutter of bat wings at dusk, noticed them flitting around at night, or even seen them sleeping under roof eaves, in trees and caves during the day. But apart from these brief encounters, have you ever wondered how bats may have traditionally held deeper symbolic meaning in various cultures?
This visual map guide celebrates the many positive bat symbols and folklore found across the Asia-Pacific region. Our ancestors recognised the importance and wonder of bats!

India
In India, Hindu devotees of the goddess Kali worship and protect flying foxes which roost in sacred groves. Bats also feature as symbols of love in Tamil Sangam poetry, dating back more than 2000 years!
China / Taiwan / Chinese culture
A tale from ancient China: The gods took pity on Zhong Kui when he committed suicide. They named him King of Ghosts and tasked him to discipline demons, with bats acting as his helpers who scout out demons for him to vanquish.
In Chinese opera, the Zhong Kui character wears a bat motif on his mask.
The Five Blessings (五福 wŭfú) in Chinese culture are health, wealth, longevity, love of virtue and peaceful death. They are represented symbolically by five bats (五蝠 wŭfú).
In traditional Chinese culture, bats are lucky symbols because the word for bat (蝠 fú) sounds like the word for blessing (福 fú).
Lucky bat motifs can be found on traditional ceramics, jewellery and textiles in Chinese, Peranakan and other Chinese-influenced communities across East and Southeast Asia.
Vietnam
Locals believe that flying foxes roosting in the Wat Mahatup temple grounds in Vietnam are calling forth blessings from Buddha when they circle the temple during their fly-out every evening.
Malaysia / Indonesia
The indigenous Mah Meri in Peninsular Malaysia perform a traditional dance called 'kuang kuwait', mimicking the graceful movements of flying foxes.
The 'siku keluang' a choreography step in the traditional Malay Zapin dance represents humility and restraint - inspired by the flying fox wrapping up its mighty wings' strength when not in flight.
The 'siku keluang', meaning flying fox elbow in the Malay language, is a zigzag, chevron or herringbone motif used in Malay and Javanese traditional textiles and pottery.
According to a traditional Iban belief from Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo, bats act as shamanic messengers to the upper-world during the Gawai harvest festival.
The indigenous Iban in Sarawak traditionally featured the flying fox, locally known as 'semawa', as a tattoo motif.
Papua New Guinea / Western New Guinea
In Bowi folklore of Papua New Guinea, Kinjinmbunduo was a mythical giant flying fox female spirit who left thunderstorms and strong winds in her wake, striking terror and awe but also replenishing the river basin with fruit trees by dispersing seeds during her nocturnal visits.
In New Guinea and Papua New Guinea, the indigenous Asmat and Trobriand carved out flying fox motifs on their war shields to represent triumphant head-hunters.
Samoa
Flying foxes are perceived as protectors and saviours in Samoan folklore. According to legend, Samoan Princess Leutogi befriended and warned flying foxes about the king's hunting plans. In return, the bats rescued her from being burned alive and also brought her food when she was stranded on an inhospitable island. She later bestowed the name "Tonumaipe'a" on her son, meaning "rescued by flying foxes".
For Samoan men, the pe'a—the local name for flying fox is a coming-of-age tattoo that extends From the waist to the knee, symbolising protection over a warrior.
The Samoan war god Sepo took the form of a flying fox to guide his people in battle. If they saw a flying fox ahead, it meant victory would be theirs; if it flew back towards them it was a warning to retreat.
Australia
Flying foxes were important animals to the Aboriginal people of Cape York, Australia, and a common feature in their prehistoric rock art.
Folklore of the Aboriginal Wik in Australia tells of two brothers who broke taboo by spearing and cooking flying foxes. The bats escaped and carried the boys up into the sky as punishment, leaving them there to serve as a grim reminder now immortalised in the Gemini constellation!
