Ford Motor Company said that over the next two years, it will cut 1,300 jobs in the U.K. This is one fifth of all the jobs the company has in the country.
It’s part of a big plan to reorganize the company, and 3,800 jobs will be lost across Europe because of it.

Shell said it would pay taxes in the UK for the first time since 2017 because it made a lot of money worldwide in 2018.
In the last three months of the year, the energy company expected its profits in the UK and the EU to “take a hit” of about $2bn (£1.7bn).
Because oil and gas prices are so high, energy companies have made a lot of money, so the....Read More

Gen Zers are embracing being sober
Because of a complex combination of outside forces and too much information, young people, especially the Gen Zers are far less likely to drink alcohol than adults their parents’ age.
Lola’s drinking habits changed as she grew older. First, there would be a night of excessive drinking, followed by a day spent feeling horrible about the previous night. After then, some downtime before the next big celebration. But Lola abruptly relocated to London with her parents when the epidemic struck and stopped drinking. She claims the lockup enabled her to break free from previous routines and deal with her anxiety issues.
The 22-year-old student now has a different relationship with booze. She recently tried going to clubs without drinking, and while she still drinks, she does it less frequently.
Lola claims that her pals used to drink less before the pandemic than they do now. As a result, when she doesn’t drink, she doesn’t feel criticized by her pals.
Experimenting with alcohol and drinking excessively has long been considered a means to mature, at least in Western societies. Alcohol is viewed as a method to have fun, make friends, and escape life’s everyday concerns from a young age, frequently before the legal drinking age. As a result, few businesses or social gatherings do not serve alcohol.
Gen Zers, on the other hand, are taking their time as they mature. As a result, they don’t drink at all or drink less frequently and in lower quantities than older folks. For example, according to the United Kingdom’s most current and largest…Read More

Amber Heard agrees to pay Depp $1m settlement
Amber Heard will pay Johnny Depp $1 million to end their long-running legal battle. During that time, both accused the other of being violent toward their partners.
After a six-week trial in Virginia earlier in the year, she was told she had to pay $8.35 million. This amount is a big drop from that. The money will likely come from her insurance company.
Depp’s lawyers said in a statement that he would give the money to charity. His lawyers have said in the past that Depp’s case was “never about the money.” Heard said in her statement that she no longer believed in the American legal system. She also said the settlement saved her from going through more court cases and finally let her be “free” from their marriage.
In March 2019, Depp sued Heard for $50 million for defamation after she wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post in which she said she was a “public figure representing domestic abuse…Read More

Interest rates: How high will it go in the UK?
The Bank of England has raised interest rates again because the cost of living keeps going up.
The benchmark rate went from 3% to 3.5% after the last meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee.
This is the ninth time since December 2021 that the price has gone up. Over the past 14 years, the rate has also been at its highest.
If rates go up, mortgages and loans will cost more, and people who save money in the UK will get more money back on it.
The Bank raised its benchmark rate from 2.25 percent to 3 percent at a meeting in November. Since 1989, this was the biggest raise.
How high could the interest rates go?
Rate hikes are likely to happen again. Analysts think that by the middle of next year, rates could reach 4.5%.
But that peak is lower than predicted when the government was in chaos after its mini-budget didn’t go over well.
Eight times a year, the Bank’s monetary policy committee gets together to decide how interest rates will be set.
It is under pressure to raise rates because it wants to…Read More
