In 1992 I dropped out of design school to go and work as a full time photo assistant at John and Kate Gollings studio. John had asked me do you have a drivers license and a passport ? I said yeah of course. ….. but i cant start work for a few weeks. I put down the phone. Told my mum “I moving to Melbourne”.She burst into tears. I turned around went back to phone and called a driving school. (I did not know how to drive) Then went to passport office and applied for a rushed new passport. I got my license and passport and drove to Melbourne with my Yashica twin lens camera and a little bag of clothes. My first trip with john was to the Island of Naru in the middle of the pacific. I took my Yashica with me every time i took a nap john would take a photo of me with it. We worked 12 hour days 7 days a week. I like this place its actually a really nice workspace. I come here and it's like very calm. It's very quiet. No one's around. I get stuff done. This is my productive space. I don't like having a lot of stuff, so my house is the opposite of this. So this is purely business stuff. It needs to be organized. I'm very good at purging.
