World SBK Phillip Island - Race 1

 On the 23rd of February, the first race of the first round in the World Superbike Championship started in Phillip Island, Australia.

Marco Melandri started well, catapulting himself through the starting grid. Rookie Alvaro Bautista went from 3rd to 1st before the Honda corner. Tom Sykes went too wide in the first few corners, allowing Alex Lowes through. Also in the first round, Camier passed Laverty for 10th place and Haslam passed Rea for 2nd in the Honda corner.

Micheal van der Mark went from 9th back to 7th, the position he started on, now followed by Melandri, his teammate. That same time in the front, Bautista got his pace up and built a 2.548 second gap to both Kawasaki boys, still 19 laps to go. Also, Toprak Ratzgatrioglu fought with Lowes for 4th position, although he had started p13 on the grid.

Bautista built even a bigger gap with still 17 laps to go. Melandri was only like 0.002 seconds behind Van der Mark, who fought to keep up the pace with the Kawasaki boys, Lowes and Razgatrioglu. Melandri did pass the Dutchman. Haslam built a little gap away from Rea, but not enough to shake his teammate off.

With another 16 to go, Bautista got a 4.3 gap to p2 to p5. The Kawasaki’s fought fiercely for p2, as only one could have it.

With 14 to go, Leon Camier crashed out of the race, not returning to finish.

Haslam’s doing well in the Honda corner, keeping his teammate at bay. But on a straight part, Rea uses a slipstream to pass Haslam. Sykes seems to be getting closer, but is still p6.

Bautista isn’t even visible anymore, his gap to the group p2 to p5 is above 9 secs! Not bad for a superbike rookie of age... But hey, he’s got experience form his MotoGP years.

Van der Mark is upping his pace, pushing his Yamaha to a limit. He’s going faster than both Kawa’s.

Then... bad luck for Haslam. He crashed out in the Honda corner, loosing his chance of a podium on his Kawasaki debut. He lost the front end and slid into the gravel. He went back to p16 after getting up. Still 10 laps to go...

Melandri is being tailed by Van der Mark, pushing and pushing. Rea is also pushing, though there’s a 10 second gap in front of him to the first man in this race. But Razgatrioglu is losing his pace quickly, it seems like he’s slowing down. At that point, Melandri and Van der Mark arrived near Razgatrioglu and Sykes, who’d been caught cruising.

With only 7 laps to go, a battle between those four emerged! Raz get passed by both Yamaha’s. Then Melandri passes Sykes, the Dutchman following suit.

Only 6 to go.

Bautista has built up a 14 second gap to the main group, Davies doesn’t do well on this Australian circuit, Melandri is pushing his gas to keep Van der Mark behind him.

Only 3 laps to go.

Troy Herfoss stopped last round, I think it was a problem rather than a crash.

Sykes passed Raz, finally, only 2 laps to go. Also, Melandri passed Lowes. It’s looking good for Yamaha.

Phillip Island seems to be Bautista’s circuit, he’s cruising out in front! Yet Davies is even losing more places. Melandri and Lowes make the end of this race still a sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat part. It’s more often that nothing changes in the last round since the bikes aren’t that close to each other.

And now, who won?

Of course: Alvaro Bautista! He’s the first rookie since Max Biaggi to win his rookie race in the World Superbike Championship.

In 2nd place: Jonathan Rea, Melandri took the last podium spot before Lowes and Van der Mark. Haslam still takes some points, taking in p15.

Im ersten freien Training der Moto GP holt sich überraschend Andrea Dovizioso auf seiner Ducati, vor Maverick Vinales auf Yamaha die beste Zeit. Dritt Schnellster war Dani Pedrosa vom Repsol Honda Team.

Marc Marquez vom gleichen Team wurde nur sechster und Jonas Folger auf seiner Yamaha 11. .

Moto 3 Heute Training 1 und 2.   Bei wechselhaftem Wetter fuhr der Spanier Joan Mir vom Leopard Racing Team auf Honda, in der elften Runde im 2. freien Traing eine Rundenzeit von 1`27.179.  Das entspricht einer  Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit von 151,5 km/h.

Der Deutsche Philipp Oettl fuhr im ersten freien Training auf seiner KTM auf Platz 4 und im 2. Training schaffte er die dritt schnellste Zeit!
