Oh golly gee it's been a looong time since Ive posted anything art related

For the Rotg Secret Santa I took prompt #40: "Sandy underwater". I'd like to think he has a special connection with all sea creatures, given he lives on his own island and is a gentle soul (given he's not provoked too much, as seen in the movie xD)

I hope whoever requested this piece enjoys it, as a fellow Sandy enthusiast I was more than happy to draw it cx Merry Christmas!

Been wanting to do this one for a while, little get together of all my favorite Sandmen: Lord Irmo Lorien from the Silmarillion, Dream of the Endless of Sandman fame, Sanderson Mansnoozie from Rise of the Guardians, and the gentleman with the umbrella is The Lord of the Mottled Hood, my personal take on him from an original world building I’m doing and hope to start posting about next year :)

Ok i was scrolling through RotG tiktok and tumblr and I saw a post asking why some people want the Guardians to be horrible people and basically ended it with saying that people think Jack's hot and they were a little mean to him in the beginning but that is not it. I don’t think the Guardians are bad people, they’re just doing their jobs and they make mistakes but that’s okay. I love ROTG I wouldn’t change the movie because that is the movie I fell in love with and the dark shit is for fanfics cuz it IS a kids movie after all. Anyway onto the rant.

When the movie begins, Jack rises from the lake and is invisible to everyone, then it switches to 300 years later and there is canonical evidence that any interactions Jack has had with the Guardians were unpleasant at best and they did not reach out to him whatsoever leaving him in forced isolation for 300 years. Also, the Man in the Moon, who created Jack Frost, only gave Jack his name and then never spoke to him again no matter how much Jack begged and then, when Jack is needed to defeat Pitch, the Guardians literally kidnap him and give him no choice but to join them. I understand where they're coming from and that they have no reason to trust him, when he tries to help with Guardians and Pitch ruins Easter, they turn on him in an instant. They don't give him a chance to explain and Bunny almost hits him. I get that tensions are high, but they 1) ignored him for 300 years 2) kidnapped him and 3) forced him to join guardianhood. And all throughout this, they don't trust him for shit. And at the end of the movie, Jack is the reason they defeat Pitch. He makes Jamie believe in them when he lost faith. And they don't even apologize?!

And then Jack takes the Guardian's Oath and becomes a Guardian but like there is so much that is not brought up that needs to be discussed. Like how the hell is Jack sane after 300 years of being isolated? Why is everyone buddy buddy at the end?

Like I feel like there is so much potential to see Jack go dark or see how the centuries affected him, because there is no way he is fine. Even in the movie he tries so hard to make the Guardians accept him and gets attached to them very quickly. I just want the Guardians to feel guilty for their actions because it was partly their fault. And The Man in the Moon literally created him and didn't bother to help him in any way other than give him a name and leave him an amnesiac and alone for 300 years.

Chapter 5

Back at it again with the rare late night thought. Spirits being opposite/having opposite natures and being each other's "shadow" are two different experiences.

Jack wouldn't immediately hate a Summer spirit, nor would he loathe a fire elemental but perhaps it also depends on a spirit's personality. Perhaps they see their natural opposite as an annoyance but it pales to their "shadow".

A spirit's "shadow" is everything they are not. Their center, their core being is completely mirrored by the other. For example, Sandy and Pitch are shadows of each other beyond just nightmare and dreams. They are each; tall and short, talkative and quiet. It's a quiet rivalry that goes beyond their work. The two mirror and complete the other in a balanced sense.

A more cooperative example is Nicholas St North and Krampus. In the past they were like Sandman and The Boogeyman but the balance they brought as each other's shadow grew to be necessary for the their survival. They are an example of a codependent shadow dynamic. They keep the status quo while not ending the life of one another.

Not every spirit has their own shadow spirit but it can lead to interesting results when one does. They could find balance and develop something more akin to a silent alliance or a relationship, perhaps they drift apart or in the worst case scenario it ends in murder for dominance of their sphere of influence.

Being an opposite doesn't immediately make the two spirits enemies..but the same cant be said for shadows.

PM Seymour’s audio about shipping characters that never met remind me of this YouTube mini movie that was Mavis from Hotel Transylvania x Rapunzel From Tangled

Pitch Black from Rise of the Guardians was Mavis’ dad and Sandman was Repunzels’

They both ran away from their respective fathers and found each other

I was 10-11 when I found this and it stayed with me for some reason, I don’t even know if it’s still there
