I would like to know more about pup history!

Well, hello, and thanks for asking! Sorry it took a while to respond.

Pup Play as we know it today got its start in 1986 at the International Mr. Leather gathering in Chicago when the partner of a leather artist at the Vendor Market, who showed up in a full-body leather pup suit and a mask crafted by a saddlemaker, started bouncing around the place barking and howling and humping the leather guys as they browsed the whips and chains on display-

-as a protest against the hardcore stoic impenetrable macho attitude that was prevalent among leathermen in those days - the standing joke was that "S&M" stood for "Stand & Model" - breaking through their poser facade, forcing them to interact and engage in a way that was just too cute and endearing to ignore or resist.

Pup Play began as an act of protest at the biggest leather gathering of the year against a cultural and institutional barrier to communication and connection. One guy - one dog - broke through that barrier, and nearly four decades later there are thousands of people around the world who pull on a pup hood and hit the ground or the mats or the dance floor barking up a storm, expressing ourselves in ways that are free and full, in a spirit of joy that at its best can transcend roleplay and allow us to experience, however briefly, "the time when the divorce between human and animal was not yet complete." (Mircea Eliade, Shamanism: Archaic Techniques of Ecstasy, Princeton University Press, 1972)

That guy, "Ranger", who's a good friend and a real sweetheart, is still active in the scene here in San Francisco and is our "First Pup", the original (and best!). A year later, almost to the day, I came out as a gay man - and when I came out, I came out barking. The man who put me on all fours for the first time was the man who brought me out, my first and only Leather Daddy who set me on this wild path that became a life's work.

I'm Pup Number Two, 37 years on all fours. I taught the first Pup Play workshop on record (San Francisco, August 1997), where I presented the first Trainer/Handler curriculum to a leather audience for use and adaptation, conducted numerous clinics, demos, and performances for groups and clubs across the United States, and showed hundreds of kinksters of all ages and genders how they could find, embrace, and express their "inner canine." Over the past year, I've been giving my presentation/lecture on Pup History online and IRL for pup-and-handler groups; it's been well received and is being expanded with new research from the field for 2025.

For several years Ranger and I were the only ones doing this radical fringe weird thing that was viewed as disgusting and sick and immoral by the leather and kink community, vilified so strongly that for the first decade those of us who practiced this kink did so mostly underground, communicating through word-of-mouth and personal ads in magazines, because if it got around that we liked to bark in the sack we'd have been thrown out of the community as sickos who were barely a step above actual bestialists (a slur that has never been true of our practice or those who practice it).

In the US and Canada from 1986 to 1997, there were only about a dozen known pup players - researchers including myself are actively searching for others from that long-ago time if they even existed - and we had to fight like hell for years to be open about the kink that we loved and to be able to express ourselves openly in this way. That's surprising to many given the popularity of Pup Play today, but it took a lot of hardcore commitment in the face of opposition to get us out from the shadows and into the light of day.

I hope this is a good introduction to our history and that I've expressed it well enough to satisfy your initial curiosity! There's much more, of course, so if there are any particular areas you're curious about, let me know, awoo!

As he peered over a secluded cove off the coast of San Francisco, Gerry McChesney couldn’t believe the scene that was unfolding in front of him. 

Fur seal pups — hundreds of them — had taken over the inlet at the Farallon Islands National Wildlife Refuge and were bobbing on the surface of the water in a shiny, blubbery mass, likely hiding from great white sharks as they waited for their mothers to return from the sea to nurse. The sight wasn’t exactly unheard of — island biologists at Point Blue Conservation Science had first noticed the older seal pups using the cove as a covert hideout sometime last year, McChesney, a manager for the refuge, told SFGATE. But he was on the island one day in late October when biologist Jim Tietz delivered the news: The seals were back in full force, and in numbers they had never seen before. 

McChesney decided to go take a look for himself.

“I was amazed to see them all piled in there, getting tossed around like they were in a washing machine,” he told SFGATE in an email, adding that he counted 440 in all. “They looked pretty content and like they were having a good ol’ time.”

The video McChesney captured was shared by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service on social media earlier this week, garnering thousands of comments on Instagram and Facebook, with users referring to the phenomenon as “seal pup daycare” and “nature’s mosh pit.” 

To the biologists, it’s a sign of “a truly remarkable recovery.” 

The rookery’s history

The Farallon Islands host one of just two fur seal rookeries south of Alaska (the other being San Miguel Island in Santa Barbara County) after the species was completely wiped out from the area in the early 19th century. There was extensive seal hunting between about 1810 and 1838... In the first few years of widespread hunting, he estimates that over 150,000 fur seals were slaughtered (“The rookery must have been huge,” he noted) and soon, no fur seals could be found at the islands at all.

But large-scale market hunting came to an end by the mid-19th century, he said. In 1911, the United States signed the Northern Fur Seal Treaty, banning the hunting of marine mammals at sea. The Marine Mammal Protection Act, which prohibits killing and disturbing animals including seals, was established in 1972, further aiding in the protection of the species. Two years later, 141 acres of the islands were designated the Farallon Wilderness and were closed to the public in an attempt to mitigate human disturbance so the seals could return and “breed unfettered,” McChesney said. Large breeding colonies still persisted on the Pribilof Islands, Alaska, and the Commander Islands off eastern Siberia, and in 1996, a female fur seal from a recovered colony on the Channel Islands made her way back to the Farallones, giving birth to the first fur seal pup there after more than 150 years of the species’ absence.

Since then, “the Farallon population has been growing rapidly,” McChesney said. Within 15 years, the local population had boomed to 476 individuals, Bay Nature reported in 2018. Initially, they clustered in one area on the west end of the islands — but now, they’re beginning to expand.

A seal surge

Pupping season runs from June to August, with most of the seals born in July and remaining in the breeding colony for a few months before they are weaned, usually by the end of November. Then, the newly independent animals go out to sea on their own. 

Farallon Island biologists from Point Blue Conservation Science have been documenting the population, and this year recorded 2,133 fur seals in total, including 1,276 pups, which McChesney called “the highest pup count yet.” 

“Given that the entire colony can’t be seen, this was a minimal count and there were certainly many more,” he noted.

Though Point Blue biologists have never documented white sharks feeding on fur seal pups (they typically go for juvenile northern elephant seals and sea lions) the “threat of shark attacks on the seal pups is certainly there and I’m sure the pups are aware of that,” McChesney said. “The cove where the video was taken provides a secluded spot to swim and play without worrying about the sharks.”

When the mothers return, they find their pups by using a distinctive call. But in the meantime, the pups seem not to mind the hours away in their secret hideout where they can splash and play to their hearts’ content.

“It was so much fun to watch,” McChesney said. “And knowing that the sight represents such an amazing comeback for their population made the sight mean so much more.”

Hypnocon 2021

The 22nd annual North American convention/conference for men into men into erotic and recreational hypnosis will return to San Francisco this year. It's free to attend (with donations welcome).

$139/night event room rates for the Con weekend (and the day before and after, if you'd like to enjoy the rest of the city while you're here). Locals, or people making other arrangements, can of course attend without booking a room.

Enthusiastic informed consent is required for any hypnotic play (or other play, for that matter) at the Con. There will be presentations about negotiating consent early Saturday morning and before each play party.

At past Hypnocons, because they're free, many people were able wander in at will, to see only the events they were interested in. Because of this year's vaccination requirement, that won't be true this year. Once you've registered, you can certainly come and go as you please (hang on to those name tags!), but you must register!

Proof of vaccination is REQUIRED by the city of San Francisco and the hotel itself, and will be checked at registration. A digital photo of your vaccination card is sufficient, assuming the name on it matches your photo ID. To the best of my knowledge, no one planning to attend will be crossing any borders to do so. If you are coming from a different country, please let me know before you come, so we can figure out what works as proof for you.

Friday:

Registration 2p - 6p in Jarvis's Corner (the desk will direct you to it). Hypnocon is completely FREE (donations are welcome), but you do need to register so that we can check your proof of vaccination (including photo ID), and give you your name tag. Name tags will be created with both scene/screen name and the name you want to be called at the Con, color coded to distinguish hypnotists, subjects, switches, and observers from each other. Feel free to add preferred pronouns.

After 6p, you may be able to find someone to register you at the hospitality suite, but we're all here to enjoy the Con ourselves. You'll have to gamble. You MUST register, show proof of vaccination, and wear your name tag to attend!

If you would like to be notified via text when things happen that aren't on the schedule (e.g. where people are going for dinner; when the play parties start, etc.) you can choose to put your name and phone number on the Text List. We'll also be posting news to the Discord server.

Several people volunteered on the survey to be part of a Welcome Team, to introduce newbies to people, break the ice and help everyone get comfortable.

Friday and Saturday nights, VisibleRestraint and their partner will host a Kinky Hypno Play Party in their suite.

Flanelbear will host the Hospitality Suite, which is a great place to socialize, meet a hypno partner to play with, and see impromptu demos.

Unscheduled social time for the rest of Friday. We won't have the meeting room until Saturday, but the hospitality suite will be open (though limited in seating). Jarvis's Corner might sit another small group at the table, and there's a small restaurant inside the hotel.

This might be an excellent time for out of towners to visit Mr. S (in-store shopping has returned), since it closes at 6p. And of course all of the Tenderloin restaurants are nearby. Impromptu groups of people go out for dinner together based on food preferences, and maybe one place will draw a big group - it's a great way to get to know each other.

After dinner, you can join the play party, hang out in the hospitality suite socializing, or hit the SOMA or Castro bars. The SF Eagle will be within a 30 minute walk, or about 17-20 minutes on the Muni 9 bus, and I know there'll be a Hypnocon contingent there Friday evening. Or maybe you'll find a hypnotist or subject to play with privately in one of your rooms.

Saturday:

·         Fresh off the release of their latest album NINE, Blink-182 joined Goody Grace as he bared his heart on his new song “Scumbag.” The release marks the second this year for Grace, who dropped “Wasting Time” in July.

·         Earlier last Wednesday, Tom DeLonge took to Instagram to share a short teaser video of some new Angels and Airwaves music. The band dropped their track “Kiss & Tell” back in the summer, and now fans received a new music video for the song.

·         To celebrate what was his favorite holiday, Lil Peep posthumously released his highly anticipated EP, Goth Angel Sinner. Originally announced in October 2017, the genre-bending EP is accompanied by the release of an official music video for the track “When I Lie.”

·         PUP’s latest music video endeavor involved the band bringing their song “See You at Your Funeral” to the afterlife. Directed by Joe Stakun, the music video features the band members as various spooky characters.

·         Alt singer-songwriter Skye unveiled his brand new track “Voices,” featuring late rapper XXXTentacion. The powerful new single also features an interpolation of the classic Blink-182 track, “I Miss You.”

·         Rapper Blackbear announced the new song in a new interview with Capital FM, and says it will be out before the end of the year. The special track will feature a collaboration with YUNGBLUD and Marshmello.

·         Foo Fighters have been releasing EPs of live tracks, covers and demo songs for the past few months and returned with yet another. The latest and seventh overall EP, 02050525, saw the band covering Jawbreaker and the Passions, as well as three demo tracks.

·         Panic! at the Disco released their new song for the Frozen 2 soundtrack, “Into the Unknown.” While Elsa herself, Idina Menzel, performs the track in the movie, P!ATD recorded their own version for the end credits.

·         Billie Eilish said in an Instagram story video she posted over the weekend there will be two new tracks coming shortly, as well as a new music video for her track “Xanny.” The musician didn’t give a timeline for the new songs or video.

TOUR ANNOUNCEMENTS:

·         Twenty One Pilots were forced to postpone last week’s show in Salt Lake City due to unsafe conditions as a result of weather. Slated to perform at the Vivint Smart Home Arena, snowfall and slick roads made them unable to make it to the show on time.

·         Motionless in White and Beartooth announced a co-headlining tour last Tuesday. The Diseased and Disguised Tour, which is inspired by each band’s most recent release, will kick off in January, with support acts and additional dates to be revealed in the coming weeks.

·         Green Day played their third studio album, Dookie, in full during an intimate one-off show in Madrid last Wednesday. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of their breakthrough album, the band also added an additional 12 songs to the setlist.

·         Poppy performed two songs live on WWE‘s NXT last Wednesday. Rocking the house at Full Sail University, she opened the show with “I Disagree” and escorted wrestler Io Shirai out to the ring with “Scary Mask.”

·         Last week, Emo Night Phx celebrated Halloween with some incredible performances and resident DJs, including one from Jonny Craig, who took the stage to perform an Isles and Glaciers track. Prior to this, a rough demo of “Clush” was originally released in January 2009.

·         After much teasing from the band members, Creeper finally made their return to the stage one year after breaking up. The band performed an intimate gig at Club 229 in London, debuting their latest single “Born Cold.”

·         After a few days of speculation at a new tour, Sleeping With Sirens unveiled their next round of dates. Set It Off, Belmont and Point North will be joining the band on the Medicine Tour in January.

·         Poppy announced the I Disagree U.S. Tour, inspired by her upcoming album of the same name. Kicking off in late January in San Francisco, the dates run through February just prior to a previously announced U.K./Europe tour in March.

·         Grayscale revealed their Nella Vita North American Tour Part II 2020 tour dates. Hot Mulligan, WSTR, and LURK will join them on the run, which kicks off in January in Wilmington, Delaware.

·         SWMRS guitarist/vocalist Max Becker was sent to the intensive care unit and is now in a rehab clinic following an encounter with black ice in Denver. Two touring crew members, Natalie Somekh and Josh Berl, were also injured in the van accident.

·         Arizona-based alt act Halocene shared a 12-minute video outlining why they believe The Masked Singer Australia ripped their arrangement (which includes an original riff) of the Billie Eilish mega-hit “Bad Guy.” The band first shared their cover in April.

·         After almost a year’s worth a teasing and a six-episode series on YouTube, the Shane x Jeffree Conspiracy Collection officially launched. The long-awaited collab of the two YouTube megastars, the launch broke both Star and Morphe’s websites in the process.

The first line appeared after you got your braces removed. It was long and dark down your skin, and while you were spewing excited words out to your mother, you knew that it meant very little. The longer the lines, the greater the distance your soulmate was away from you. The first line appeared to be about three inches down your wrist, which meant that whoever your soulmate was could be at least a whole state away or more. Any thirteen-year-old would freak out at the thought of having some knowledge of their soulmate's whereabouts, but you were one of the last in your friend group to have a line appear. You were just happy you weren't broken.

The length of the line encouraged insecurities within you. Someone you knew had a line the size of a millimeter. For all they knew, their soulmate could sit right next to them in social studies. It was safe to say that your three-inch tattoo was not spectacular. Nevertheless, it gave you hope.

The next line appeared two years later. The two-year wait sucked, but it had to do. This time, the line was a few centimeters shorter than the last. You gushed to your mother, showing her your wrist with pride. You took a look at her fading lines while she was examining yours, and you couldn't help but frown. She only had three short lines on her wrist. She was one of the lucky few that lived within a few towns of her soulmate, and they also happened to attend the same college. The last line on everyone's wrist would always be the shortest.

You wondered what your soulmate was up to. The lines only appeared whenever they were traveling, or so it appeared. Your family didn't move around as much, at least not within the two years since your first line showed up on your skin. You wondered what they were like, if they played any instruments, and if they enjoyed some of the same things that you did. You hoped that their favorite candy was Smarties® as well.

The night of your sixteenth birthday, you watched the two inch-line appear on your skin. Your family had taken a trip to California before deciding to drive up the west coast. You were in San Francisco by the time the line burned your skin, but only for a matter of seconds.

The lines appeared more often after that, and you were starting to grow worried that the thin inks would run out of space on your wrist. Only one line was shorter than an inch. You bought your parents dinner the day that happened. The others, on the other hand, always were around the same lengths.

You were pissed at your soulmate. From as early on as you could remember, you always hoped that you would have a story similar to your mother's. You didn't want a lot of line tattoos decorating your skin. The more lines you had, the more others would know how long you waited. You didn't want to be thirty with your wrists and ankles covered in random lines. By that point, they would mean nothing to you. They were starting to slowly mean nothing to you.

By your twenties, you were wearing bracelets to cover the lines up. You figured out that your soulmate could be someone who traveled a lot. Most celebrities had a billion lines covering their wrists because of how often they traveled. You secretly wanted your soulmate to be a celebrity.

Your left wrist was nearly finished, and soon (you assumed that soon would actually come) the lines would appear on your right wrist. You no longer updated your mother on your tattoos, nor really your good friends because they were tired of your complaining. Some friends.

Rumor had it that the lines appeared twelve to twenty-four hours after the so-called set time you and your soulmate were within a good distance of each other. There was no way to tell if it was true, especially for you. No matter, you didn't let it bother you. The bracelets kept your wrists covered enough to keep you from looking at them too often. You never cared about your soulmate as much as you used to.

"Yogi, Yogi, no­�� "

The small Yorkie dashed in the opposite direction. So far, your first week in Los Angeles was going well. The young pup circled a lamppost and darted over to a large bush adjacent to you. Your feet could only take you so fast, and they did not prove worthy to your little Yogi's paws.

"Yogi, please," you begged. You probably looked like a damn fool trying to catch her. You were arched over like Quasimodo so you could hope to catch the miniature devil dog. "Bad dog, Yogi. Bad, bad–"

Your dog yelped and scampered away from the bush. A bigger dog had growled at the small thing, and finally Yogi waddled over to you calmly. You sighed, picking her up so you could place her back on her leash. That was the last time you would ever trust your dog off of her leash. She wagged her precious little tail as she panted up at you, her eyes brown and bright.

"Yes, I still love you," you said, "you little freak." You glanced around to make sure your scene hadn't attracted unwanted attention, and luckily, it didn't. People were probably used to weirdos like you around here.

Your wrist burned on your walk home, and by this point, it was only humorous to you. You wished you were Yogi instead. She never had to deal with soulmate issues, unless dogs had their own form of it. Maybe you were her soulmate. You smiled at that thought and turned the corner to your apartment.

Yogi began yapping again. The day you adopted her, you plugged your ears every time she barked. The poor thing couldn't help how annoyingly high pitched her barks were.

"Yogi, no." You tugged gently on her leash before looking around to find what she was barking at.

A few people had walked by, and apparently one of them had bent down to attempt to pet her. You really had to increase your personal special awareness. You gave the leash one last small pull before continuing on your way. Yogi acted like nothing had happened as she padded down the concrete sidewalk.

With one more turn of a corner, Yogi once again started barking. You let out a frustrated sigh as you bent down to pick her up, and when your spine straightened, you nearly gasped.

"Holy fu–, your dog is the cutest little thing," the man said, holding out his hand so she could give it a sniff. At least he knew not to pet a dog first thing before they figured a person out. "What's its name?"

You couldn't speak. Well, you didn't want to even try. It was Calum Hood. Calum. Hood.

"Y-Yogi," you sputtered, clutching her tightly in your arms.

Calum grinned and scratched her head. Her barking at died down by then, and surprisingly, she was actually letting him pet her. Maybe she knew that he was Calum Hood, too. What if your dog was just as star-struck as you?

He cooed as he scratched down from her ear to her back, his fingers grazing over your forearm and leaving sparks of heat. "Yogi the Yorkie. That's fuckin' brilliant. Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to swe– "

You chuckled. "I don't mind swearing. Neither does she, I don't think. She hears plenty of it back at home when I stub my toes on every piece of furniture." You bounced her in your arms.

Calum beamed and let out a chuckle himself. "That's me with Duke."

"Your dog?" You dumb idiot. Of course Duke is his dog.

He nodded. "Proud dad and dog owner. I love having a small dog, but I'll never discriminate."

You laughed again. You had to chill. "That's what I said! I've had fairly large dogs my whole life until little Yogi over here." Once again, you bounced her in your arms. She was loving all of the attention.

"That name is fuckin' sick," he said and looked up at you. "'m Calum."

Woah, woah, woah.

"Y/N," you replied with a friendly smile, to which he returned. "I think she loves you more than she loves me."

Calum shook his head. "Definitely not true. I'm sure Duke would love you more than he loves me if he were here, though."

After another second of scratching Yogi, Calum pulled away. You hadn't realized how close he had been until he stepped back a few feet. You missed his presence already.

"Would it be weird if I asked you a favor?" he wondered, folding his arms over his chest. You heard the leather creak with the movement.

"Depends on the favor." You were most likely going to say yes anyway.

"I travel a lot," he started, "and I always ask my friends to look over Duke-y while I'm away. Um, sometimes they're not always educated in knowing how to take care of a dog." Calum laughed. "Would you be interested in taking over, maybe? We could exchange numbers and I could let you know the days I'd be gone. Only, of course, if this would work and be okay with you."

You pretended to ponder for a moment, but you still knew that your answer would be yes right away. Even if your schedule was busy, you could always fit time in for Calum Hood. But, your schedule was not busy. "That actually sounds like a dream job," you answered with a smile. "I've always wanted to work at a doggy daycare-kind-of-place, but I guess one dog will do," you joked.

"You– wait, you serious?" Calum grinned. "Thank you, Y/N. I promise to pay well. Here– "

Calum took out his phone, and as he did so, you glanced down at his wrist. You could only see the top of his dark lines, but there appeared to be a lot. You were somewhat relieved that someone also had as many as you, though he probably was more numb to it since he traveled quite often.

You set down Yogi so the two of you could exchange numbers, though this time, you had her on a leash so she wouldn't run away. That was a story to tell Calum another time. Calum. You could not believe you were face-to-face with him. You could not believe you were exchanging numbers with him.

"Cool, cool," he said, placing his phone back in his pocket. The sleeve of his jacket pushed farther up his sleeve, exposing more of his lines. They were decently long. "Thank you so much." Calum clapped his hands together. "Gotta run, but I'll let you know when I need ya! Thank you, thank you!"

You waved goodbye to him before turning the other way. "All right, Yogi," you whispered down into her soft ear, "you did a little good today. I think you made up for earlier. How about two biscuits after dinner tonight?"

Yogi turned her body and slammed into your legs, her tail wagging like crazy at the sound of you saying biscuit.

"Okay, freak," you chuckled. "Let's go."

It happened when you were showering the next morning. In the middle of washing your face, your wrist burned for less than half of a second. You thought you were daydreaming as you looked down to see a small line barely visible to your eyes. You waited patiently, hoping that in a matter of seconds, it would burn again and stretch farther down your wrist. Nothing changed, no matter how hard you scrubbed at the skin.

You switched off the shower, grabbing your towel and skipping out of the bathroom with your wrist extended. You had your phone in your free hand as you searched for your mother's contact.

"Hel– "

"I found them, well, him," you said hurriedly. You glanced down at your wrist, still unable to believe it all. It was too good to be true. "Walking Yogi, I found him. Didn't find out for twelve hours. Can't believe that twelve-hour bullshit is actually true," you muttered.

Yogi whined at your feet.

Meanwhile, your mom was laughing at you. You probably sounded like a hysterical mess.

"He's famous," you said. "He travels."

"So, that's why you have a thousand lines?" your mother asked with a chuckle.

You rolled your eyes. "Not a thousand..." You sat down on your couch. You told her the whole event a few moments later, the words coming out as more of a vomit than anything coherent. You could sense her smiling through the phone.

"Cuter than my story," she mumbled. "How will you see him again?"

You sighed, feeling the nerves bubble in your stomach at the thought of having to go over to his place and see him once again. "He asked me to dog sit for him."

"No fucking way."

"Mom!" you scolded, but you were laughing.

"That's so perfect," she said. "Then you can get married and finally own a hundred dogs like you've always wanted."

"True," you agreed. "Since one of us didn't want a hundred dogs..."

"Before you make me feel bad any further, I have to let you go in a second," your mother said. "I'm about to go to a meeting."

"Okay, enjoy boredom." You patted the cushion next to you so Yogi could join you, but she instead waddled the other way. "Love you."

"Love you more."

You let out another sigh as you set down your phone. Your first instinct when facing this situation was to run away, but you knew you couldn't run forever. No matter how many times you'd miss each other, you'd somehow find your way back to one another sooner or later.

Calum sent you a text three days later, and you weren't sure he was one-hundred-percent sober. Nevertheless, he texted you, which meant something good at least.

y/n y/n y/n! i'm leavinf town tomorrow!! areyou still able to doggy sit?

You waited a minute or two to answer before sending him an enthused yes. You wanted to match his level of excitement. Once you looked over the text again, it hit you that, by now, he probably knew you were his soulmate, too. Now you were going to have to deal with that conversation. Unless... he wasn't even your soulmate. Maybe it had been someone else you stumbled into on your walk with Yogi yesterday. Or, it could be a twenty-four-hour rule, and your soulmate could actually be the girl at the Starbucks counter.

Fuck.

Calum let you know his address soon after you answered him. He followed up by asking you if you could meet him by nine in the morning so he could show you around and let you know about his feeding routine, etc. This made your stomach drop. You had been hoping he'd just have you show up after he left.

So, the next day, you found yourself on your way to Calum's (which, to be honest, was only up the hill where all of the wealthier places sat above the somewhat-decent apartments). You hadn't thought to bring Yogi along with you – so he could say hi again – until you were parking in his driveway. This was his driveway. This whole ordeal was going to drive you insane.

He greeted you with a smile and a gentle pat on the shoulder before leading you into his home. He introduced you to Duke along your tour, and you could hardly focus on anything he was saying with his beautiful pup before you. You were in absolute heaven.

"Thank you so much for doing this," he told you. "I have a feeling that you're probably more reliable than my friends."

You simpered, letting out a dry chuckle. "You have too much faith in me, Cal."

He smiled along with you but stared at you in silence.

Had you said something wrong? You wondered about it for a while until it finally dawned on you. You called him Cal. Maybe he had a thing about strangers calling him by a nickname most likely meant for close friends. Nonetheless, you felt guilty about it.

A few seconds later, he resumed showing you the places where the leashes, dog food, and toys were kept. He informed you that he would like you to check on Duke two to three times a day, and during one of those times, give the dog a decent sized walk. He assumed you knew exactly what "decent sized" meant since you also had a small dog.

"Is it too much to ask you to send me updates over text?" Calum asked as he gathered his bags by the door. "Oh, and before I forget, let me go get the spare key." He really did have too much faith in you, a stranger, to make sure his home and dog were safe. Especially since he was all well-known as he was.

"I can do that!" you shouted to him from the next room as he searched his drawers for another key. "If you're ever free while I'm here, I can FaceTime you. Only if ya want."

Calum walked in with a great big smile on his face. "I would love that. Thank you. I'll let you know ahead of time, too, that way you can have Duke meet Yogi, and I can witness it. Oh, my fuckin' god, you better FaceTime me then."

You chuckled, taking the key from his warm hand. Soft and warm. "I pinky promise," you said, holding up your pinky.

Calum held out his own pinky. The sleeve of his jacket pushed up his forearm as he extended it, and you nearly choked on your saliva when you noticed the lines decorating his tan skin. You failed to breathe as he gave you another enthusiastic thank you before saying goodbye to Duke. You kept your jaw clenched in order to keep it from falling open. With a simple wave, you bid him adieu and bent down to pet his beautiful puppy.

Once he was gone, you could finally let out a shaky breath. Calum was your soulmate through and through.

WHO: cam & francis WHERE: great hwy / skyline rd, san francisco, ca WHEN: 3am ish in a year to be determined

          the day started off like any other while francis was home from life on the road.  he spent the day running between the bar with ben and the mechanic shop several miles away.  with isabelle at school there was a lot of quiet time; time spent trying to fight the urges that got him through his youth.  while, rationally, francis knew he didn’t need those drugs anymore there were moments when his body forgot that.  so, when the world was quiet he tried his very best not to be.

          street racing had been that for him before he’d found life on the road.  none of the horsemen dragged him into it except for that very first time to get his mind off all the other things he wanted to do.

                                 he’d been hooked ever since.

          a lit cigarette was flicked onto the asphalt and a wink offered to the several other opponents lined up at the designated line.  his daughter wasn’t in the crowd, mainly because it was too late on a school night.  that meant the local favorite wasn’t in the crowd, either.  

          james burke, better known in the underground as ‘ karma ‘ had been tearing up the street racing scene since she hit eighteen.  ben taught her how to drive just like he’d taught francis ( at least as far as street racing tricks went ).  lucky for him, she also had a soft spot for kids.  especially kids named isabelle and pups named pinkie pie.  over the past few years that’d been a level of help he couldn’t even begin to describe.  knowing his child was in loving care was more than he ever had growing up and as much as fran hated being away from his family he also couldn’t deny how much he loved being on tour with a band.  every venue was like a brand new job.  no matter how many times he did the same set up it always, somehow, felt so incredibly different.

            then again, maybe that was the draw.  racing felt the exact same.  every time he was behind the wheel it all felt like the very first time.  adrenaline ran through his veins and the world flew by in a rainbow swath of color.  Sometimes it was a better substitute than the high he got from the drugs and sometimes he hated the fact that he felt that way.  on this particular night fran welcomed it with open arms.  shaking fingers tapped against the steering wheel of his mazda rx-8.  

          when the signal flared, francis was off at the speed of light.  with his hand on the gear shift it felt like he was on top of the world.  a small smirk stretched at one corner of his mouth as he weaved in between his opponents.  just like always, the money didn’t matter.  whatever he list, in any, was nothing  but a small drop in the sea of all his earnings.  what mattered was the tingle in his blood and the way his heart fluttered.  he could see the finish line in his mind’s eye.  fran could see the cheering and hear the congratulations.

                                        and then he heard a screech.

          from what he’d been told some drunk driver broke through the reflective cone barriers at the end of the track and collided with fran’s car.  he doesn’t remember getting hit.  all he remembered was stepping on the gas to make it those last few feet.  now there was a beautiful nurse leaning over him explaining something about a dislocated shoulder and a mild concussion.

so my alpha, handler, and i are all brainstorming a circus tiger scene for me to do (as a tiger, imma be whipped n earn my stripes!!) and i’m just thinking..

there’s this “house”, called House of Hunt and they’re originally from san francisco but recently-ish moved to portland and my alpha and i had the honor of talking to the founders at kinkfest. my alpha is currently speaking with the head pup about being involved with their house and they’re just beyond ecstatic.

i want to have my own house like that, it’s a big kinky fetish “family” and it’s so tightly knit and such a beautiful thing, and they contribute to marginalized communities and i’m just. i want to have a traveling kinky “circus” family and one of my goals for years has been traveling the US via van and contributing to organizations and communities as i travel and incorporating that with my kinky circus and discussing the ethics of kink and power dynamics would just be.. mind blowing. i really have something i want to work towards now.

and my alpha and i are lightly considering looking into trying to open a lil kink cafe here in portland bc there’s a lot of 21+ stuff and venues that bar younger kinksters from being able to gain experience in real kink settings and even classes to learn skills for bdsm and we really want there to be more inclusive spaces. that and also there’s the cutest kink cafe in sf (wicked grounds) and it’s just such a nice space and we want to spread that more here, and cafe’s are a very portland thing so i’m hoping it ends up being successful

Move Over Oscars, It’s The Pawscars™!

Pauley Perrette and Lou Wegner Host Annual American Humane Association Awards revealing top creature stars of the year; See it today online!LOS ANGELES, CA February 18, 2015 -- Proceed, Oscars!  Now, American Humane Association is showing the REAL champions of the year's top acting awards with all the PAWSCARS ?, honoring the very best animal stars in film and television.  Hosted by TV superstar Pauley Perrette and Lou Wegner, the 2015 American Humane Association PAWSCARS are now available for viewing online at www.americanhumane.org.

And the 2015 PAWSCARS visit...Best Puppy Under Stress --"The Interview"

One of the most notorious movies from 2014 has been"The Interview," and its own most adorable star was certainly Wolfie, a King Charles spaniel who appeared in the film.  American Humane Association always made sure Wolfie was kept secure, especially in the middle of all the chaos and action.  He was not near any of the explosions, gunfire, or loud sound -- all that was added in post-production, or a stuffed double was used.  In the boat scenes, Wolfie was always kept strapped-in for safety, while in between takes, he was kept warm with a hot water bottle.

Best Magical Cow -- "Into The Woods"

While"The Interview" didn’t receive any Oscar nominations, this PAWSCAR winner got three Oscar nominations too.  "Into The Woods" is Disney’s variant of the Stephen Sondheim fairy tale mash-up musical.  The award for Best Magical Cow belongs to “Milky White” played by animal actor Tug.  In the film, Jack trades his household ’s white cow for magic beans.  From the scene where Jack milks her, American Humane Association Certified Animal Safety Representatives ? proved just off camera ensuring she stood still and Jack was taught the way to milk the cow before trying it .  In the scene where Tug is eating strange things like hair and old shoes, she was actually fed edible replacements and at the scene where she awakens it was not her at all, it was a fake squirt bunny.

Greatest Speeches Performance --"Dolphin Tale 2"

In this sequel to"Dolphin Tale," Winter’s companion Savannah, dies of old age and the aquarium has only 30 days to find Winter a new mate.  Once an injured baby dolphin can be found stranded on a sandbar, they name her Hope from the “hope” which she'll become Winter’s new companion.  American Humane Association assessed all swimming places for potential hazards and saw that the dolphins never worked over an hour without a break.  When audiences watched Savannah lying at the base of the tank, it was not a true dolphin, but an animatronic prop.

Best Chase Sequence --"Sex Tape"

In this movie, Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz attempt to track down their personal sex tape which has inadvertently been sent to their pals.  As Segal is looking one buddy ’s residence, he encounters a German shepherd -- performed by both Nicki and King -- and the chase is on; American Humane Association Certified Animal Safety Representatives were on set for those scenes.  At the treadmill gag, the machine was never running as soon as the dog was on it; stuffed animals and CGI were used for all of the dangerous parts and the full scene was assembled in post-production.

Best Supporting Equine -- "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes"

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is part of a hugely successful franchise that frequently gets awards for its visual effects.  It wins a PAWSCAR, not for its apes, but for a horse called Dale ridden from the apes' leader, Caesar.  It looks like he -- and another Apes -- are riding bareback but that is just another example of movie magic.  The actors playing the apes on horseback used saddles, so Dale and the other horses had been dotted with particular effects markers which allowed the saddles to be eliminated in post-production.  American Humane Association made sure those markers were non-toxic and they also had the horses fitted with rubber hooves for scenes if they were on sidewalk.  In scenes in which there was gunfire, flames, or explosions, the horses were filmed separately from this action.  Even when they jumped over"fire," the horses were only leaping over a 1 foot high bar with flickering lights.

Greatest Young Animal Performer(s ) ) --"The Fall"

"The Fall" is a stressed cop play notable for being James Gandolfini’s closing film.  At the heart of its story is a pit bull pup named Rocco.  Since puppies grow up so quickly, the production had to use three individual dogs, Puppers, and Ice -- to maintain age continuity.  Because different dogs were utilized to perform the exact same character, some make-up was required to make them all match.  American Humane Association made sure that the makeup utilized was nontoxic.  Certified Animal Safety Representatives ensured that none of the pups were overworked, asked to do anything outside of their capabilities, and that they had a secure and comfortable surroundings in place and off.

Finest Ensemble --"Wild"

This award may appear to be an odd choice considering that the film is about Reese Witherspoon’s personality hiking the Pacific Crest Trail .  But she’s not alone, and across the way she encounters a horse played by Muffet, a fox played by Dharma, a rattlesnake played with Fred, a puppy played by Tess, a bunny played with Sport, and even a llama played by Taiga.  American Humane Association Certified Animal Safety Representatives assessed every place where the animals worked and supervised the scenes to be sure none were placed in damage ’s way.  In the scene where frogs are released on to Witherspoon, the region was surrounded with an individual foot-high barrier so that none of them got away and 40 hens were kept safe.

This season, American Humane Association's"No Animals Were Harmed " program celebrates 75 years since the sole official film-industry sanctioned group ensuring that the humane protection, safety and welfare of animal actors on the sets of movies, tv shows, and commercial shoots.  Each year the program manages the protection of over 100,000 animal actors on more than 2,000 places from the U.S. and around the globe.  In honor of this special anniversary, American Humane Association represented on the history of animal actors and requested America who its favorite cat and dog celebrities of all time were.  With 2,527 votes, the results have been....

Best Dog Star of all Time -- Lassie

This lovable collie's been around for at least 75 years.  Her first movie was"Lassie Come Home" with Elizabeth Taylor in her first starring role.  Taylor was paid $100 per week, but Lassie got $250.  There have been many more films since then in addition to a very successful television set.  Lassie was the very first monster celebrity to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the first inductee to the Animal Actors Hall of Fame.  She's a long relationship with American Humane Association, winning 11 of its Animal Television Star Awards, the PATSYs.

Top Cat Star of Time -- Sassy

This Himalayan kitty starred in Disney’s"Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey" and the sequel,"Homeward Bound 2: Lost in San Francisco."  In both films, Sassy was played by a cat named Tiki and voiced by Oscar winner Sally Field.

Finally, a very special Lifetime Achievement Award was given to....

Lifetime Diva Achievement Winner -- Crystal

This cherished capuchin monkey was a creature star for 18 years starring in over 25 movies such as the"Night At The Museum" series,"The Hangover: Part two,""American Pie," and the"Dr. Doolittle" movies, in addition to tv shows, and advertisements.  1 amazing truth about Crystal is that she is a rescue animal.  Crystal is far from the only rescue creature working now: roughly 80 percent of the dogs and cats that you see on the large and small screen are rescues or adopted from predators.  This fighter is so beloved that the late Robin Williams called her"his favourite leading lady."

It has been two weeks. Two weeks since Derek's been able to breath. Derek has sent message after message, called god knows how many times, left numerous voicemails. He's begged, pleaded, groveled, apologized. And nothing. Nothing came of it. No answer, no reply, no hint that Stiles even knew he existed anymore.

Laura says he's moping, it's not moping. He's just dealing.

"You haven't left your room for anything except work in two weeks, baby bro. You're moping." Derek told the voice in his head, that sounded annoyingly like Laura, to shut up.

So what? So what if he's spending way more time at work than usual? So what if he hasn't slept properly in weeks?So what if he sometimes spends the night in his office? And so what if when he does get home, he just wants to be alone in his room?

He is a grown ass adult, he can make those decisions for himself. No matter how unhealthy they may be.

He decided a run was much needed. He didn't bother on a shirt or shoes, knowing he was just going to shed them anyways. He tried to sneak out the back door in an attempt to avoid his family. He should have known better.

"Uncle Derek?"

Derek closed his eyes, taking a breath, before turning to face his nephew.

Daniel sat at the counter, his head tilted in curiosity as he took in his uncle. Sometimes this kid was too smart for his own good.

"What's up, buddy?"

"Where are you going?"

"I was uh just going for a run."

"Without the pack?"

"Ya, buddy. I kinda just wanted to be alone for a bit."

Daniel looked down at his hands, his bottom lip jutting out.

"You've been alone a lot lately." His voice sounded so small, it hurt Derek. Daniel was only six. He was just a young pup, and his uncle, his alpha, has been avoiding him. Good job, Der, A+ douchbaggery.

Derek sat down next to his nephew, putting an arm around his shoulders and pulling him close.

"How about when I get back, you and I watch a movie together? Your pick."

Derek couldn't help but smile as he watched Daniel's face light up.

"Really? Any movie I want?"

"Any movie you want. I'll even make you your own bag of popcorn."

Daniel jumped up in his chair, wrapping his little arms around Derek's neck.

"I missed you, uncle De."

Derek wrapped his arms around Daniel, holding him close.

"I missed you too, bud."

Daniel pulled back, patting Derek's head. Derek playfully snarled, snapping at his little fingers. Daniel giggled, doing it again to show he was faster than Derek's reactions. Derek let him.

"Okay, go on your run, Uncle Derek. I'll get mommy to set up the TV for when you get back."

Derek chuckled, standing up.

"Okay, buddy. I'll be back in a little bit."

Derek shed his sweatpants when he hit the tree line, nicely folding them in half and hanging them over a branch. He took a deep breath, breathing in all of the scents that the forest had to offer. They lived on the edge of the preserve now, leaving the original Hale house as a memorial instead of building on top of it. They were now closer to town, but still had access to the preserve from their backyard.

Derek let the tension in his muscles go, easily gliding into his full shift. He hasn't done this in a while, he mentally made it a note to do it more often. It felt good, having four paws sink into the forest floor. Feeling, hearing, and smelling everything. He took off, heading in no particular direction, just running to run.

The wind blew thew his black fur, giving him the feeling of being free. He caught the scent of a rabbit, chasing it just for the fun of hearing it's heart race. He kept a safe distance from it for a bit, letting it think it had the upper hand. Eventually he grew bored of the chase though, going back to just running. He sprinted through the forest, the ground making almost no sound as his paws barely touched the ground.

He wasn't sure of exactly how long he had been running for, but he kept an eye on the setting sun, keeping track of when he should be back. Soon the sun was almost completely gone, the moon taking it's place. Derek sighed, heading back in the direction of home.

As he got closer to the house, he could hear Daniel in the backyard. He was running around, playing. Derek smirked, sprinting faster. He broke through the tree line, kneeling playfully. Daniel screamed in delight, charging at him. Derek gripped the back of Daniel's shirt gently (Laura would kill him if he ripped another shirt) between his teeth, throwing him backwards, so he landed gently on Derek's back.

Daniel took two hand fulls of Derek's fur, holding on tight. It wasn't until Derek went to take a step forward that he noticed Jenna, standing with wide eyes behind Daniel's climbing tree. Derek froze, not knowing what to do. Daniel was none the wiser, nudging Derek with his foot, telling him he wanted to play.

Derek finally moved, letting out a bark of distress. Laura was in the door way moments after, sliding the backdoor open. She took in the scene, huffing in annoyance.

"Nice job, Der. You're an absolute fail wolf." Derek sent her a glare, but it was cut short. Stiles stood behind Laura, his eyes on Derek. He didn't look scared, obviously knowing it was Derek, but he did look nervous. Nervous because Derek was in front him, not because Derek was in front of him as a wolf. He noticed Derek staring at him, sending him a nervous wave.

"Hi."

If Derek was in human form he's pretty sure his jaw would be on the ground right now. Fortunately he was not.

"Uncle Dereeeeeeek, come oooonnn."

Derek huffed at Daniel, but did as requested. He twirled around a couple of times, careful not to move too fast as to knock Daniel off of him, but enough to where the boy giggled in delight. He liked to pretend Derek was a bull, see how long he could stay on. Derek made sure to never knock him off.

Jenna finally came out from behind the tree, watching the two of them. Derek reached his head around, grabbing Daniel by the shirt again. He set him on the ground, nudging him towards Jenna with his nose.

He went back into the tree line, shifting back and slipping his sweats back on. He kind of regrets not grabbing a shirt now.

When he got back to the backyard, he instantly had two little monkeys hanging off his arms.  He smirked down at them, doing a couple reps with a kid hanging off each arm. They squealed in delight at being lifted off the ground.

"You know, I'm not a jungle gym."

The kids just giggled, just trying to climb higher. The scent of both of them together made Derek internally purr. He missed this so much, missed Jenna. He put the kids down, looking back up to the porch. Stiles and Laura still stood there, watching them.

Derek cleared his throat, walking towards them. He didn't miss the way Stiles' eyes lingered on his chest. Laura was polite enough to act like she had manners, leaving the porch to join the kids in the yard. That left Derek alone with Stiles, and Derek's heart felt like it was beating out of his chest.

"Hey."

"Hi.. Can we talk?"

Derek wanted to say no. He wanted to be resentful, wanted to go hide in his room. But he also wanted to grab Stiles and never let go. That part of him won, and probably always will. He nodded, walking into the house. Stiles followed him, Derek closing the door behind him. They sat down on the living room couch, Derek giving Stiles plenty of room.

"I just.. I wanted to say I'm sorry, Derek."

"Why are you apologizing? I'm the one who fucked up. I shouldn't have left with her without letting you know, and I'm sorry."

"No, I overreacted. You did let me know, you left a note. With a heart drawn on it! And I know, I know she's safe with you. She's probably safer with you than me, cause you can actually do something to protect her. But I.. I just can't lose her. She's all I have left."

Derek reached forward, grabbing Stiles' hand in his. The younger man had tears pooling in his eyes that threatened to fall at any moment, and that broke Derek's heart.

"She is never more safe than when she's with you. I-"

"Shush, I'm not done. You're the best for trying to comfort me, but if I stop I'm not going to be able to get all of this out. Okay?"

Derek quietly chuckled, but nodded his head.

"Okay.. Okay. I'm protective of Jenna because she's all I have left of my little family. Jenna.. Jenna had a twin when she was born. His name was Mieczyslaw, at his mother's insistence to make him Mieczyslaw the third. I, on other hand, quickly gave him the nickname of Mitch. I don't think Jenna remembers either of them, and I.. I don't really talk about them. I probably should, for her sake, but.. I just can't.

"I guess that runs in the family, my dad did the same thing when my mom died. But uh.. the twins were about a year old when they died. Their mother, Caitlin, and I weren't a thing. She was a friend I made at college, and we spent one night together my second year of grad school. She told me a couple weeks later that she was pregnant. We talked options, the decision ultimately being hers, but we both wanted to keep it. We were excited, but freaking out all at the same time. And that was over just one baby, imagine us when we found out we were having twins."

Stiles chuckled lightly at the memory, a tear falling from his eye. Derek wiped it away with the pad of his thumb, having moved closer to his boyfriend as Stiles was talking.

"But uh, we decided that we should live together, for the babies. That was probably the hardest decision either of us made, deciding where to live. I was almost done with my last year of school, she had finished the semester before me, so we didn't need to stick around Berkeley. We ultimately decided on San Jose. It was pretty close to half way between Beacon Hills, and San Francisco, where her parents lived. We both would have no problem getting jobs there.

"It was all falling in place, we were excited. We found a three bedroom apartment in a nice area, we both had good jobs set up. We were building a life.. We'd been living there for a little bit over a year when it happened. Mitch was crying nonstop that night, it was keeping Jenna up. Jenna had a fever, she needed rest and some medicine, but we were out. Caitlin said she wanted to walk to the store to get some and take Mitch with her, thought maybe it would sooth him to sleep.

"I offered to do it, but she said she wanted to. She made a joke about Jenna being Daddy's girl, and Mitch being Mommy's boy, and then she left. It was only a block away, it shouldn't have taken her that long. So when she was gone for awhile I called her, but sh-she didn't answer.. Some druggy mugged her for fifteen bucks and an iPhone."

Stiles had a dark sneer on his face as he said the last part. Derek just squeezed his hand tighter, offering silent comfort.

"Caitlin always carried the babies in a wrap on her back. The guy thought it was back pack, and accused her of having more on her.. before shooting her. It went straight through, hitting Mitch too. When he saw that she had a baby, and not a back pack, he turned himself in. He's serving life, even tried sending us a letter once."

Stiles wiped at his face, trying to dry the tears off his cheek. Derek didn't know what to say, knew first hand that there was nothing he could say. So he just pulled Stiles into his chest, holding him close. He cried into Derek's chest, his hands curling into Derek's shirt. Derek let him cry, rubbing a hand up and down his back and pressing kisses to his head.

After a bit, Stiles pulled back, wiping at his face again.

"I miss them everyday. Jenna reminds me more and more of Caitlin each day. It hurts to think she'll never see our little girl grow up, and I'll never get to see the same for my son. But I have Jenna, so I hold onto her, and I don't think I'll ever be able to let her go."

Derek kissed Stiles' head again, placing his hand on the side of Stiles' face as he met Stiles' eyes.

"And you never will have to, I promise you that."

Stiles shook his head, pressing their foreheads together.

"You can't promise things like that."

"Yes I can, and as long as I'm alive I will keep that promise."

Stiles kissed him, Derek kissing him back in earnest. Stiles broke the kiss first, pressing their foreheads together again.

"You plan on sticking around that long?"

"I plan on being around as long you'll have me."

Stiles smiled at him, giving his lips another peck.

"Guess we're stuck together then."

"Guess so."

1. Seattle, Washington - Seattle is the Most Dog-Friendly City in America. Every park in Seattle allows dogs as long as they are on a leash and at least 14 parks offers off-leash sections. Many owners treat their dogs like children, even purchasing dog strollers and special backpacks to carry their pups. Seattle is environmentally conscious, grocery and variety stores encourage patrons to bring reusable bags. Plastic bags are no longer available, and if you want a bag from the store, you can get a paper one that costs a nickel per bag. Seattle is home to some of the best sports fans in the United States, whether you want to watch the Sounders, the Seahawks, the Huskies or the Mariners, the sports scene is definitely one of the best things about Seattle.

2. Los Angeles, California - While some people think of Los Angeles as a dirty city plagued with smog and too many cars than the environment can sustain, LA is actually leading the way in several environmental protection areas. With over 500 Energy Star buildings, LA has ranked first in the nation for 5 consecutive years for buildings of this type. Los Angeles has been named the #1 city in the nation for solar power. Many Los Angeles Houses for Sale in the region now include incorporating solar power into their design.

3. San Francisco, California - A cable car ride is definitely a bucket list thing to do for many people, and it's a uniquely San Francisco experience. If you don't know what to expect and where to get on, it can be frustrating instead of thrilling. Some people stalk the Golden Gate Bridge trying to photograph it from all the best angles. You see the bridge from afar. You can drive or bike across it. But the very best way to experience it is to take a walk. You'll get a feel for its size, especially when you see how small a big container ship looks when you're above it at mid-span.

4. Las Vegas, Nevada - You cannot visit Las Vegas and not get a photo at the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign! Drive through the Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada’s oldest state park, and prepare to be amazed by the size and color of the red rock formations. In bright sunshine, you’ll think the rocks are on fire. A gondola ride inside the casino along the Grand Canal is also a must to do. The Bellagio fountain show is a free Las Vegas attraction that never gets old no matter how often you see it.

5. Portland, Oregon - The most famous attraction in Oregon is most definitely Oregon Zoo. Oregon Zoo first opened in 1888, there are approximately 1,955 animals to see in the zoo ranging across 232 species. Portland is twined with Suzhou in Jiangsu province of China, Suzhou is famous for its Ming Dynasty Gardens which are incredibly beautiful. Pioneer Courthouse Square is known by the locals as Portland’s Living Room. It is situated in the center of downtown and is approximately 40,000 square feet. There is an outdoor chess table and a fountain that looks like a cascading waterfall.
