Bryson: -🌟 What is my muse’s sexual/romantic orientation?: Heterosexual -👠 What was my muse’s last serious relationship like?: Not very long, his military lifestyle has not made for long-term and steady relationships. -💔 What was my muse’s first heartbreak?: He was cheated on previously, the person he had been dating was hooking up with an old hometown best friend. He lost a girlfriend and best friend in one day. -🎀 Who would my muse sleep with if nobody ever had to know?: He's not a man for shying away from people knowing who he's hooking up with.
Connor: -💦 At what age did my muse lose their virginity?: He was 12. -👰 Would my muse ever get married?: He doesn't really want to get married, however, he might consider it if he found the right person. -💑 What are my muse’s requirements for a potential partner?: Brunette/dark hair, and hopefully they eventually enjoy sex. Don't try telling him what to do either. -💍 Has my muse ever had a one-night stand?: Tons of them.
Sawyer: -😘 Would my muse have sex on the first date?: No, he wouldn't. -🌼 Would my muse prefer a big wedding or a small wedding?: He would prefer a small wedding. -💋 How many people has my muse slept with?: Six people. -💝 Does my muse like Valentine’s Day?: He doesn't care for it, but he will celebrate it if he's dating someone.
Jameson: -😊 Would my muse ever ask someone on a date?: Yes he would, and he has. -🍬 Is my muse a sub, dom, or switch?: More switch with dom-ish tendencies. -👀 Is my muse the type to sleep around?: Absolutely not! -💘 What are the ways my muse says ‘I love you’ without actually saying it?: Acts of service. Quality time. Touch.
Beckett: -👍 Does my muse prefer to be asked on a date, or would they rather do the asking?: He has no preference either way with this. He's very much the adventurous sort and goes with the flow. He likes things to happen however it does. -🏩 What was my muse’s first time like?: It was spontaneous, and in a public place. -👎 Would my muse ever cheat on their partner?: He doesn't like the cheating thing, so no.
Ilya: -😉 What are my muse’s fetishes/kinks?: He has dom tendencies for sure. He's also the sort of man who likes lavishing attention on his partner, and push them on how many times he can make them have an orgasm. -🎆 Is my muse into monogamy?: Absolutely. -😳 What was my muse’s worst romantic/sexual relationship?: He doesn't have a worst because he rarely and almost never has a relationship.
Grayson: -💬 When did my muse go on their first date?: He was sixteen. -💕 Would my muse ever be in a polyamorous relationship?: Nope, its not for him. -💲Would my muse ever date/marry/sleep with someone because they were rich?: No. -👓 Would my muse ever lie for sex?: No.
Eren: -💯 What is my muse’s ideal date?: Honestly? He wants something lowkey. Something like cooking together, eating together, maybe sitting in a bath together.. ya know just lowkey and chill. -🔥 Would my muse ever be up for a threesome?: He's done it before, it's not his favorite, but he's done it. -👿 Would my muse ever blackmail someone into sex?: Never. No nonono. He's very against that.
Timur: -💗 Has my muse ever been in love?: Yes. -👮 Has my muse ever had sex in public?: Yes. -🎥 Who is my muse’s celebrity crush?: He doesn't really have one... oddly enough.

Sam Steward (1909-1993) - scratchboard.
Sam Steward, born Samuel Morris Steward (1909 – 1993), also known as Phil Andros, or Phil Sparrow. The talented and charming Samuel M. Steward began his career as a novelist, professor of English at Chicago’s DePaul and other universities, and an editor of the World Book Encyclopedia. His letters to Gertrude Stein in the early ’30s led to a close friendship with her and Alice B. Toklas. “Sammy” periodically visited them in France, shared artistic insights, and befriended many in their circle. A fine draughtsman, he was also an American tattoo artist.

Screen Time, Take 5: A Blast From The Past
My college girlfriend asked me to watch Fellini’s La Strada with her one night. A professor from the theater department had assigned it for a class I’m sure was spent forcing students to walk across the room pretending to be tigers or as if moving through Jell-O before discussing a Samuel Beckett play they all had skimmed that week. I agreed to watch the movie. Of course, I owned a two-disc DVD copy of the La Strada and, of course, in the two years since I bought it, had failed to watch it. My Fellini phase started at 16 because Roger Ebert said I had to like La Dolce Vita (I saw it, hated it, pretended to like it for years), and solidified when a cool, attractive person I never ended up dating told me her favorite movie was 8 1/2, a movie that rewired my brain so that I only liked that movie and no other movie for about 5 months. Certainly, La Strada would be somewhere in the middle?
It isn’t. But that didn’t stop my girlfriend and I from popping in the second disc after we’d muscled our way through it to see a special feature with Martin Scorsese saying “this movie is good” for 40 minutes over clips of the movie we had finished watching five minutes prior.
“I don’t like how it’s dubbed.” I said.
“It’s the commedia dell’arte,” she said as I brewed a giant travel mug’s worth of coffee at my dorm room desk. This was before K Cups. I had a big tub of grounds and a machine that made one travel mug’s worth of coffee in my room so that I could wake up five minutes before class, and be caffeinated by the end of my morning power walk to Olin Hall. I also found that I needed caffeine in the evenings to get through any movie screening or exhausting conversations with other Bard students.
“OK. Yes. I get that.” I put the disk in the DVD player and sat back down in the maroon Dorito-dust-covered papasan. I poured powdered creamer into the mug and hit the button on the remote to hear what Scorsese had to say.
“La Strada is about commedia dell’arte.” he said to the documentarian.
“Hmm.” My girlfriend looked at me and then wrote ‘commedia dell’arte’ in her notebook. I rolled my eyes. She had recently learned about a subject, told me about it, heard the subject mentioned back to her, and wanted to make sure I heard that she was right about the thing that she said because now a professional director was saying it back to us from a screen. She often gave this affected performance of making sure I heard something she’d said before repeated by a friend at a party or a professor. It irked me but it was far from her most annoying habit (the incessant cheating).
There are several ways I would have reacted differently now. First, I would have remembered to bring my travel mug to the cafeteria so I could bring better coffee back to the dorm that evening. Second, I wouldn’t have scoffed at a person who knew a fact, heard the fact repeated, and took pleasure in acknowledging “Yes. I know that fact.” This moment of satisfaction is one of the rare pleasures a smart person gets to have.
Who doesn’t love already knowing stuff? It feels great. At a party “yes, anding” someone who said a fact you also know from a Bill Bryson book you both read? Or hearing someone repeat a snippet from RadioLab and finishing their sentence? That’s a true nerdy connection. It’s the same feeling I get when I read a history book and see an event I memorized the name of in high school and finally gain a real understanding of said event now that I have the patience to read and comprehend a modicum of historical context. Is there a word for that? For seeing something you’re familiar with in passing and then retracing your steps to find out more information, or even information you already knew? Not self-satisfied smugness, like someone who says “hmm” after your boyfriend’s hero repeats a phrase on a DVD extra. Not confirmation bias exactly. I mean the joy of watching a Ken Burns documentary and when the narrator mentions The Teapot Dome Scandal, your brain lights up and says “The Teapot Dome Scandal. We know about The Teapot Dome scandal. Hmm. Yes.” I swear, this feeling must have a name. It’s on the tip of my tongue.

Maligayang Pask-OH SHIP! Mixtape 2, Listening Guide 2
Section 15: Happy Golden Days of Yore
The Mexican barrio morphs into a rural, snowy English town in the early 18th century. The Gesualdo Six’s Guy James, Joseph Wicks, Josh Cooter, Michael Craddock, Samuel Mitchell, and Owain Park stand outside a church, singing Michael Praetorius’s “Es ist ein Ros’ entsprungen.” The listener stops by the pub, and Heather Dale serenades one with “This Endris Night.” Sara Stowe stops by to serve the listener a cup of “The Gloucestershire Wassail.”
Refreshed, the listener enters the said church, in which one finds peasant clothing-clad James Bowman and Michael Chance pray Francois Couperin’s setting of the Magnificat. Dame Emma Kirkby appears also in peasant clothing, her singing the final movement of Alessandro Scarlatti’s Non so qual più m'ingombra – “Nacque, col Gran Messia” – with the London Baroque under Charles Medlam.
Tumblr media
Section 16: Nochebuena Spread
Festive scents inundate a dining room as Sophie Retaux’s charming organ transcription of the Dance of the Mirlitons from The Nutcracker wafts.
Collin Paul welcomes the listener in the kitchen, declaring that “It’s a Marshmallow World.” Jody Dee and the Starliters cook up a storm with “The Peppermint Twist.” Lesley Gore helps one whip up Christmas “Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows.” The listener helps Chance mix mulled wine, brew the nonalcoholic hot cocoa, and heat up toddies as he sings Purcell’s “If Music Be the Food of Love.”
All the dancing and cooking makes the listener hungry, and the cast of Promises, Promises help one set the tables to ensure that everyone has a “Turkey Lurkey Time.” The guests are in fact the King’s Singers, who join you in a “Banquet Fugue.” One of the Kidsongs Kids tells the listener at the jovial table, “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth.”
Section 17: The 1740s Menorah Lighting Hour
The listener once again heads to the 18th century, this time in a Jewish neighborhood. Matthias Maute’s Ensemble Caprice’s “Fa Nye Mama” fill the air, and so do the scent of laktes frying in oil.
As Sydney Fixman lights the candle on a silver menorah, the Pro Cantione Antiqua sing Salamone Rossi’s Elohim Hashivenu. The Maulbronn Chamber Choir, accompanied by Musica Florita and conducted by Jurgen Budday, sing “See the Conquering Hero Comes” from Handel’s seasonal oratorio, Judas Maccabaeus. Il Gardellino – under Marcel Ponseele – signifies another Hanukkah night illuminated with the 3rd movement of Alessandro Marcello’s Oboe Concerto in D minor, S D935.
Ensemble Il Continuo lends a festive air with the opening chorus of Benedetto Marcello’s I cieli immensi narrano, S.618. Helmut Lotti leads everyone in a rousing hora to his cover of “Shalom Alechem.”
Tumblr media
Section 18: Give Love on Christmas Day
Seasonal romance intertwines with the festive atmosphere as the segment starts with Jose Mari Chan’s “A Perfect Christmas.” The listener waltzes with a friend (or significant other) as Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack sing “As Long as There’s Christmas.” The Cambridge Singers and Farnham Youth Choir croon, “I Wish You Christmas.” The Jackson 5, aptly, advises the listener, “Give Love on Christmas Day.”
The Carpenters reminisce about “Those Good Old Dreams” while Susan Ashton and Collin Raye share “The Gift” with each other. Chan tells the listener, “Give Me Your Heart for Christmas.” Sandi Patty and the kids remind one, “The Gift Goes On.” Mariah Carey affirms that the listener’s love is the best gift of all, as evidenced by her greatest seasonal banger, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” And Barry Manilow says, “I’ve Got My Love to Keep You Warm.”
Best listened with Spotify Premium.
