okay so I haven't seen the episode yet but apparently they all die at the end. That is kinda a better ending than 'only New dies' but it does not sit right with me. You're telling me the mentally ill guy killed everyone and then himself. I know the horror genre is filled with stories like these but by god, not in the year of our lord 2024! This show scares me. It perpetuates myths about people struggling with mental illnesses. And like is this going to have impact irl? IDK, likely very little. But we've been here. We've always been here. It's like Animal (2023) if the protag was ableist instead of a misogynist.

I LOVE 4 MINUTES.

I love it! GAAAAAHHH, I love it. While Be On Cloud’s KinnPorsche was so BL-referential, I just love this juicy Dr. Sammon-mystery genre that takes us out of trope-land. Queer murder mysteries, my beloved.

I have no theories, per se, about where I think this show is going, but I am going to jot down some observations for my own posterity and memory. After reading some theories on Twitter (including one that Dr. Sammon herself retweeted), I went back and fast-forwarded through all the episodes so far, so here are my notes (and these VERY WELL may have been repeated in the tag, so I apologize if I’m just pooping what we’re already assuming here).

1) This Twitter account noted that Tonkla saw his cat in episode 1, after what-we-assume-to-be present-day boing with Korn. Tonkla sees this AFTER Korn rushed off after getting off the phone. After this week’s episode, we seem to be informed that said cat had died in the past.

We also know that Tonkla has a habit of lighting up after sex and during times of duress.

There might be more than just tobacco in those cigarettes he’s lighting up, I’m not sure, but we also know he hits the shabu, pipe-wise.

Besides Great being in what I assume to be, and what I call, a fever-state, or better phrased, a cardiac episode, I am assuming that Tonkla is transcending his own lines of reality through drug use.

1a) [(A quick aside: I just wanna say that I will be VERY. CURIOUS. as to how Tonkla’s drug use is positioned alongside his predilections for unprotected sex, and if I think there will be public health commentary in this. Drug use is, of course, generally not recommended by medical professionals, and at the same time, it’s a culturally important element of many facets of queer culture that many physicians who work with LGBTQ+ patients are trained to be aware of; for example, using poppers to ease the process of preparing for intercourse. I don’t know if the show means to indicate that Tonkla, vis à vis being on PrEP and meth at the same time, is an automatically unsafe person…but he also might be a murderer… so yeah, I will be curious about this underlying public health messaging.)]

1b) (Speaking of public health, yo, we needed those Durex bottles in episode 4, YOWCH.) (😬) (ANYWAY.)

2) So, speaking of Great and Tonkla living in their own realities, I also want to posit that Tyme has created his own sense of delirium by literally not sleeping.

Homeboy is on his shifts, he’s working out, he’s solving mysteries, he’s kicking literal ass, he’s investigating and courting Great, he’s following Korn. He’s doing a lot! We haven’t caught him sleeping yet, again, literally.

I wonder if this may be Dr. Sammon commenting on the culture of insanely long shifts for doctors, which impacts their mental and physical well-being. We’ve also separately learned that Tyme is driven by revenge, and by a need to support his grandma and save Nan. But how can he do all of that, if he’s physically depriving himself of the ability to rest? I don’t know if this is going to go anywhere, but I do notice the camera work, whenever Tyme is scrubbing out of a shift, re-centering from a tilt, which makes me wonder about what these shots are telling us about his mental state (and we saw comparable camera work when Tonkla thought he saw Dome).

(I’m also not forgetting that the show shows him stabbed at the very start of the series, and I’m constantly wondering about that.)

3) Finally, I want to offer that Korn, Great, and Tyme are not out. At least for Great and Tyme, does that contribute to a delirium mindset (and maybe even Korn, too) by way of the stress of holding in secrets? (Please note that this linked article is from 2004 and does not have fully updated terminology.)

I don’t know if this theory holds for Great, because a popular theory for him at the start of the series was that he may not have realized he was gay until he met Tyme. I don’t know that I saw that in my very-fast rewatch except for his surprised looks during the stitches moment in the hospital. Great’s comfort with Tyme in the car after the claw machines makes me think he knew more about his sexuality, and his physical separation from his family at the dinner table in episode 1 also makes me wonder if he realized his preferences were always going to separate him from his nuclear family. I’m not sure, but I’m chewing on this.

4) So, where I’m gonna go entering into episode 5 is that there isn’t a centered or accurate “present day” for anyone….mayyyybe except for Korn, who is certainly living his own fever dream of being stuck in a reeeeeeally bad job, but maybe isn’t being subjected to mental delirious psychoses (just, you know, the general stress of hating your work thoroughly). But I could be wrong there, too, because we know that Korn is driven by greed, filial piety, and a desire to take over the family business. So maybe that’s creating a delirium of his own, one that takes him away from his boyfriend for weeks at a time.

4a) (By the way, isn’t it interesting that we are not seeing NC scenes with Korn and Fasai? I know, I know, Be On Cloud does queer/BL content, but. I think it’d be interesting if the show ran the gamut of intimacy. Just a thought.)

Anyway! This show is so good, it’s making me babble. I absolutely love it, and it is the comeback that Bible Wichapas deserves.

Manner of Death Final Thoughts

Rung is the goddamn worst oh my god. literally how could she treat Jane like that Jane was so cute she just needed her big sister. The fact that she did all this because she was jealous!!! UGH. Por gave her exactly what she deserved at the end.

The Teenies were all very cute and I like that Nam wants to be a doctor.

I knew from osmosis The Proposal was going to happen but nothing prepared me for it. Tan, what the fuck.

I love this stupid show. In Sammon We Trust. ah, that means I have to watch Triage at some point soon doesn't it?

Spare Me Your Mercy Ep 1 - 5 Live Blogging

Haven't watched a BL in a few months (Sept 13 to be specific) because I've been preoccupied with Dan and Phil (got into them again after a few years lol) and then got super busy oof.

But now... I yearn for the yaoi. Don't have time to watch a full 12 episode series but maybe an 8 ep series that has 3 eps out and is releasing 2eps/week hm. Also, my tiktok FYP doesn't really have BLs/series but lately I get the occasional Spare Me Your Mercy (+ Highschool Frenemy lol) tiktoks, so that has me thinking of this show as well.

This has been one of my most anticipated series, so I really hope it's great, please please please. Last thing I watched was 4 Minutes, which was also highly anticipated + by Sammon and seemed like it had a cool plot and things to say but uhhhhh let me down in the end :/ Hope this one goes better pleaseeee

Like in a tiktok, I think I saw him asking a patient if she fully consents to this + nobody is pressuring her, which I assume is him being asked to assist her in dying. However, would Tew's mother literally ask Kan to end her life the day her son is coming to visit?? hmmm

I would like Kan to be the killer, that's the most exciting

Ep 4 (Dec 13)

this director’s bf story kinda reminds me of Under The Whispering Door which I read last week and also had a side character who has a bf for three years who fell ill and passed away

interesting oppositions about Dr. Kan’s actions. I’m torn and don’t actually know where I stand, especially because of the Canada MAiD system and how it’s not… actually helping but rather just a way to have disabled people/ill people die instead of providing them with a better quality of life

I’m gonna assume the text they didn’t translate is Wasan telling Kan that he saw him leaving the Director’s house by car or smth

Their interactions are so fun because they’re each hiding stuff (well Kan is hiding and Wasan is trying to find out). And I also can’t tell how much they actually like each other vs are just trying to throw the other off/trying to catch the other

i’m a bit confused about the cars like how would the Director’s car be leaving and Kan’s car also be leaving if we assume Kan had Director bound at the back of his car

I'm curious to see:

1) Who is doing the other murders and how they'll be found out. Current theory is obviously Boss since he killed the Director and advocates for euthanasia for patients who are a "burden." I'm also very curious to see if the Doctor who is doing the autopsies has any hand in anything because sometimes she looks so suspicious... I had actually thought she was working with Director on something sinister in the first few eps.

2) How the romance progresses (I'm curious to see more flirting/kisses lol) and also like lowkey where are we in the relationship? How serious is this? Kinda confused because I thought it was kinda lightly treading considering they haven't known each other that long + the accusations and suspicions but the emotional reaction Wasan had about Kan lying was like oh... + Wasan asking Kan to give him more time? idk. also wanna see how they deal with Kan being the reason Wasan's mother likely passed away and all of Wasan's baggage with that.

New Series Predictions

So we know knowing about new shows from Be On Cloud, but that’s okay because that means for the next few months we can come up with the most unhinged theories about them. Which is exactly what I’m going to do in this post. I will only do predictions for Wuju Bakery and 4 Minutes because I don’t know anything about thai history, so I can’t really make guesses for Man Suang. Most of these are part me pulling shit out of my ass and part looking for context clues from what we were given. So have fun reading these and it'll be fun to see how wrong I was when they finally air.

Wuju Bakery

Jeff is an alien and Barcode works at a bakery also in Korea. This premise is already unhinged. This sounds like a plot made using MadLibs. So they’re using the korean word for space 우주/wuju. So literally the stars and outer space. The possibilities are endless. I have two scenarios that I would like to see play out. 

Scenario 1:

Jeff is an alien. He is sent to earth on a mission of some sort. Once he gets to earth he learns that he has to blind in with the humans. He is wondering around and someone sees the kdrama Goblin and decides to base his look around it hence why he looks like a grim reaper in the trailer. He stumbles upon the Wuju Bakery and meets the cutest boy, Barcode. Barcode befriends Jeff the alien and teaches him the ways of the humans. But he has to remember his mission. They bond over being different from the people around them. I mean Jeff is an alien on earth and barcode is Thai but living in Korea. Jeff must complete his mission and hurts Barcode (even fluff needs a little angst), but then something happens that brings them back together and they live happily ever after. Also because its Jeff and barcode there is a singing scene, someone has a guitar. I mean they teased a song at the lineup announcement

Scenario 2: 

The Wuju Bakery is a portal from space to earth. When aliens want to come to earth for whatever reason, they must pass through portals in order to get their disguise and learn a bit about humans. Barcode works at the Wuju Bakery and helps aliens adapt to earth. Jeff is a new alien and is struggling to adapt, so Barcode takes it upon himself to give him lessons on how to be human. And they fall in love. And then some evil aliens come through the portal and Jeff and Barcode have action scenes. And then they defeat them and work at the Wuju bakery together

Other random predictions: 

Nodt either owns Wuju Bakery or he is the head alien who gives Jeff his mission

4 Minutes

On to the bitch that is going to kill us all. None of us are making it out of 4 Minutes alive (not even a main character). We got the crumbliest of crumbs from this show and I am going to cobble together some predictions from sampling of a sampling that we got. In the announcement they talked about Sammon being a doctor and there’s the heartbeat sound in the teaser. On to my predictions/theories.

Scenario 1:

Bible and Build are an established couple. There’s a car accident. From the posters, I’m going to guess Build is the one who is dying because Bible is crying in his. And in the moments before Build dies, Bible is transported back in time and must save Build from dying, but things are not going as he planned and every time he does something, it messes other things up, basically butterfly effect. And the series is about coming to terms with death and having to savor your time with your loved one before it’s too late. 

Scenario 2: 

If this is the BibleBuild Detective/Serial Killer show then Bible is a dedicated detective and Build is his loving boyfriend. At work Bible is working on this tough case of these murders where the killer leaves omnious messages that people have to solve in 4 Minutes to save the victims. Barely anyone has been able to solve these riddles. And then Bible is confronted with the fact that the man that he loves is actually killing all these people, but by the time he pieces it together its too late and he is now a victim and people have 4 minutes to solve the riddle to free him 

Other random predictions:

Yes, it seems like Pond and the author Sammon met. Since they posted a photo of them having dinner together, clearly they must be dating 🤪🤪🤪 (I am obviously joking. Please do not purposefully misinterpret).

From a Sept 7 tweet by Sammon, she said she wants to meet Apo. Sounds like she is a fan 😊😊😊

Also a fun note: Dr. Sammon is a practicing physician! A working doctor who's a successful author and has had multiple novels adapted into shows. 🤗🤗🤗 Very cool of her!

Many fans are hypothesizing it could be related to the third book in the Manner of Death / Triage series, which both have been adapted, call Spare Me Your Mercy (alternatively titled Euthanasia). There was already a confirmation that Euthanasia would be adapted more than a year ago, and an obvious hint at the end of Triage with Dr. Bunn starting an autopsy.

There are actors who are already cast to play both of the main characters of this novel from the WeTV version. MaxTul reprised their characters TanBunn in a cameo in Triage, but there's no reason they can't recast these characters. WeTV produced MOD and AISPlay produced Triage.

Anyway, who knows! Definitely exciting, right?
