So I would like all your thoughts on Andrew's letter at the end of The Charioteer....

If this is your way of saying "I know you just stand on the sidelines and never join in our discussions bitch. pspspsps lets talk about andrew," know that it's gonna work. Let me preface this with 1) I'm illiterate hehe and 2) I didn't do the re-read this year, and the last (and first!) time I've read TC was aug 2022. So this is gonna be me noting stuff down as I re-read the passage now. There will inevitably be some context and earlier moments I'm forgetting, sorry bout that.

So the first thing I'm noticing is that when Laurie disguises his letter with his paper, Mary's been kind enough to tell us that it's right next to a list of downed planes and lost pilots. Thanks for setting the tone, Mary! Now I know how this is gonna sting lol. Next, I notice that by god does Andrew ramble! After his introductory bit where he's saying he's tried writing a couple of times and is moving to London, the words really tumble over each other. It feels very verbal to me; he really writes like he speaks, doesn't he? But I'm guessing that's because he's anxious to put such dangerous thoughts on paper. He's just decked a fella, become disillusioned in his beliefs abt pacifism etc., admitting he has romantic feelings for another man, and quite overtly at that. And then he's like "I thought you felt the same", and that it's all confusing to sift through that without Laurie there ("I found I couldn't see things so clearly when I was alone"). It's all so... raw and earnest, which is just so Andrew imo. That said, him only snapping after Bunny taunts him about Ralph and Laurie's relationship is low key very funny but yeah- he's probably had these home of sexual thoughts swimming around, then had them plucked out of his heat and then thrown back at him by (who he thinks is) his love interest's boyfriend. That must have been mortifying to hear aloud, and it must have sucked to realise that Bunny's taunt was true. These couple of lines, "But it taught me something. The thing you want to kill is really in yourself", is so heartbreaking idk.

Then he goes on to say "ok cool im gay. i guess. my pacifism is a lie. Maybe it always was? anyway im gonna go throw myself under the worst of the blitz, thanks for the kiss." To which I think... girl, same. (stream of consciousness tangent: laurie why do all your boyfriends keep trying to off themselves? Can someone go check up on charles????) And then he's ending his letter begging Laurie to deny his relationship with Ralph and my heart just fully breaks for him. I know I'm notoriously sympathetic to Andrew but imagine writing that kind of thing in a letter to somebody! Something I hadn't remembered is how assertive he is that there's nothing happening between Laurie and Ralph. "Will you please tell me yourself that there is nothing in what he said about you and him? Of course I know there isn't." Now that I read this back, I reckon it has the potential to come off as quite arrogant, depending on how one feels towards Andrew. But then he writes, "But somehow it has got a hold on me; I can't get it out of my mind", and I swing towards thinking that oh noooo, he's so not coping. The whole thing is just kinda painful to read through - but it's such a strong read!

I think why Andrew's ending sits with me like a sad, little icy splinter in my heart is because I just feel bad for the poor guy. He basically falls in love with a man, and then quite rapidly undergoes loads of realisations about that (and other beliefs about himself), and then has them violently blow up on him. Then he kinda... doesn't really get any closure? Not that we can see in the text, anyway. Like who knows if Laurie ever does write, even if it's just to follow Dave's (cold imo) advice of writing to him "when you feel he's needing it, not when you feel you must".

I'm not sure if this is just a madman's ravings at this point, clutching at straws for a reading but it boils down to me acknowledging how difficult it can be to come to terms with your queerness (and most of us have got it much easier, comparatively), and I know Laurie knows that, and could probably have helped Andrew out. Let him know he’s not alone, or whatever. I'm not saying he should have ended up with Andrew romantically—nor does he have any obligation to do anything, really—but he's been in that place mentally fairly recently and he's just seen that Dave's a bit weird about it. Considering that he'd felt so strongly about Andrew, it's a bit of a bummer that he just goes along with what Dave says and heads off. It's very sweet and poetic to leave him the copy of the Phaedrus, but girl... how well adjusted did that make the other two, lmao. Ultimately, that might keep Andrew out of trouble, but we know he can be quite stubborn and I reckon it'll probably not make it much easier for him in the long run. Dave and Laurie keep trying to be so protective of him that he doesn’t really get a chance to do anything!

You know, as someone who absolutely adore Levihan's deep bond I'm so tired of logging in to diffrrent platsforms and seeing antis spreading lies about our ship. Like I'm so so sick of them claiming "Oh you levihands never consider Levi's cold answer to Hanji after they literally saved him" or "didn't you see how he rejected them in the forest? How do you call his 'unrequited love toward titans' line as a confession of love?" So much invalidating, so much hate. Almost feels like they don't have a life other than slandering what other ppl like. Sometimes this fandom makes me even more exhausted than I am by my daily life. Sorry if I sound like a pessimisst. Was just here to vent as I consider u as a logical person. Tc!

Yeah, I feel you, ya know. So you can come vent when you need! I know how painful it's to see something you've loved for a long time is not simply badmouthed, but actively being used to "ship shaming" us.

Unfortunately, 99% of the time that LH is slandered it's not a matter of honest or sincere people (either shippers and neutrals) picking canon material and presenting another view that could not match what we have seen in the same canon material, or with the Japanese translation helpers (that we love). If it was with honesty reading, it wouldn't be slander at all, just a fair viewpoint shared to make people think, as everyone can do metas explaining viewpoint here and there.

But what seems to happen in the ship wars (that involve multiple Levi x whoever character ships, but NOT all shippers in them) is that 99% of the slandering over LH is done by the darker and loudest set of people within the multitude of Levi-X ships, and they are fueled by pure disgust, hate, and the simple evil intention to mock us to protect their ship. To do this, they purposefully pick the things that are special or fun to us, and twisted them in horrible ways that make us seem lunatic to the whole AOT fandom! And also, there are always some non-shippers that just hate AOT in general now, and they just like to increase the chaos between shippers because it seems fun as hell to them. (*sigh*)

Like, something pretty SIMPLE that caused an uproar of Levihan slandering: the mercha rings fun we had joking that Levi and Hange had married and all, playfully saying that they were canon, turned out a weapon in their hands to say we are "so obsessed and desperate to force they canon". And it escalated until they settled down after getting their own mercha promo where it shows Levi's and Erwin’s rings in the same hand of a person. And then they stated they were canon!

I laughed so hard because this part of the AOT fandom is crazy haha

We all know that merchandise is pure SHIP BAIT to attract money for their sales, so our plays and jokes and fun with them is supposed to be just this: WE ARE HAVING FUN! So why when it's the LHs enjoying these silly things, we are the crazy, the dummies, the stupids ones, but when other ships do it it's okay, and cute, and CANON proof? LOL

God, there are so many clowns in this fandom!! And as you said, they just like to heat things up because there is nothing else to do in their lives!

Now about canon stuff:

After seen so many attacks on social media these past months (I had no idea things were this bad), there was a time when I've even questioned myself if I was reading too much into Levi and Hans' bond. But I concluded that fuck it - if 10 years having each other's back through thick and thin and going through life and death situations doesn't make an amazing solid bond between people, nothing.else.does.

And about what you pointed out that this group of dishonest shippers claim: fuck it too LOL! Levi wasn't drawn saying a mere "thank you", but he said "I know you" and gave her all his support in her decision to go try to stop a planetary annihilation; and in the plane scene, Levi could barely walk properly and stand up but he still tried to stop Hans from marching to her certain death, and we saw the light dying out of his eyes when he had to let her go, and then he put his fist over her heart and for the first time in their life said, "Dedicate your heart".

Just remembering this is making my eyes watering already, but as if this isn't enough, Isym also showed Levi couldn't even look at Hans fighting the Colossals, nor her death, and in another display of a first time in Levi's life, he says a "Later" farewell and asks her to "keep watching." Then, while Levi is shown broken in chapters 133, 136, 139, Hans is suddenly shown beautifully drawn in precious panels in the 2 laters, especially in 136 where her face has a close-up, and she is alive and happy, lively inspiring Levi and the campfire group with dreams of a world free of horrors while being the focus of everyone's eyes! And from these memories with her and the others, Levi renewed his will to keep fighting amidst his horrible condition from these moments because if the world went to full hell, it wouldn't have been worth the heart she also devoted!!

So yeah - what is a simple "thank you" (and these whatever biased treatments that these share of troublemakers imagine) compared to all of this????

Now being more rational in this chaotic situation of ships in AOT:

Sorry if this will sound a bit of a down point, but for ALL shippers in this freaking fandom (me included), it's also important to remember that the core of AOT story is not to be a freaking shoujo manga.

In fact, nearly all canon romantic relationships had horrible nuances: Carla being eaten by Grisha's 1st wife, the girlfriend doing CPR in the body of her half-eaten boyfriend during Trost attack, Ymir being eaten by Galliard while Historia was forced to get pregnant, Ymir the Founder in love obsessed with King Fritz for 2000 years, Dina tortured and being turned into a titan in front of Grisha, Ksaver’s wife slitting her own son's throat and then killing herself, and Mikasa kissed the decapitated head of the love of her life after being forced to kill him bc he not only wanted to exterminate the Titans (freeing Ymir) but because he also wanted to flatten 100% of the Earth and let it full of carrion-fattened insects.

So if anything, Isym made sure to depict friendship and fellowship love as the best thing in life! Which, no matter what people say, the canon has enough material to at least prove this existed between ALL SC veteran members!

And lastly, a particular lesson I've learned being active in fandom these months is that moments of utmost frustration can make us feel things too deeply, and regret a lot of things later...

So, as we still have the freedom to see romance where we want, So let's just enjoy what we have healthfully, and keep dedicating our hearts to appreciate these characters that give us so much love in life!! Even though it cannot be screamed as canon (w/o slandering), Levihans can pick up its fair share of hints of beautiful, fun, and non-traumatizing tropes of romantic love from the main manga, anime, and side materials with heart at ease!

Magnum PI 3.13 - Cry Murder review

I’m not sure I need to say something about this episode. I mean you all saw it. It was just good. Frankly all of season 3 serves a ‘Atta girl’. You're going above and beyond. And this episode... pure gold!

Seriously I had to think for like 5 minutes for something to put on my 'like less' points because this was fantastic (and that one thing was ‘where my Ferrari? I luv Ferrari, me wanna see rarrri’ uhm yeah, my brain is part fluffy baby mush currently, you have been warned this review might be a tad bit off)! 

Every moment was on point. We got 2 adorable story-lines and a good case. 

Because it’s the least exciting and I’m feeling contrary, let’s talk about the case first. Because this could the start of a beautiful and lucrative friendship...

You see some insurance companies have “recovery specialists” inhouse and some hire PIs for bigger claims / stolen stuff / prove their clients are lying. Insurance companies, as mentioned on the show, also have money. Like lots. (Trust me, I worked as a temp at an insurance company and the money they throw around is ridiculous.)

If the show was smart they could have this lady be regularly brining them cases to do with weird insurance stuff. It could make for some pretty interesting conflict further down the line too because they’re helping the fat cats suddenly rather than the underdogs.

(I’d also like to point out that they actually stopped/ revealed a planed insurance fraud so they should still get paid a chunk for that, different firms have different policies but they should get more than their daily rate + expenses. Just saying.)

Also I want more of the cute insurance chick looking at Magnum all 'he’s fine' and Higgy not liking it. Seriously, if Ethan is going to stick around into season 4 Magnum needs a faux love interest too.

Even though this episode wasn’t very case focused, what we got was fun and a little twisty and just a good backdrop for the rest of the stuff. Of course they had to throw in a murder but still PI appropriate. I wish they’d do more smaller cases where no one dies or a million dollars is missing (more kind of Burn Notice inspired) where maybe the cops can’t help because the case isn’t ‘serious enough’ but is still ruining the person’s life.

Next up is Magnum getting his finger stuck in the mouse trap, telling Higgy about his pet mouse and then at the ends Juliet giving Magnum a mouse! Roberto the II! Does it get more adorable? IDK.

I love how Higgy is trying. She’s not quite sure how to express herself or how do thing always because she’s so out of practice and probably never had to before (quite the Magnum makes her want to) but she really cares so much even though she’s piss poor at expressing it sometimes. 

Them talking about wanting kids themselves was just... come on! Don’t make me want babies ever after for these two anymore than I already do!  Also two instances of Magnum/Higgy being mistaken for a couple and this lady thinking the baby is theirs? If season 7 don’t end with these idiots married and expecting a baby I will seriously strangle someone. 

 Other golden nuggets in this episode

Juliet singing and playing peekaboo on the phone.

Hiapo’s mom being “they seem like a really nice couple”

(”Not a couple?” #shook.)

TC + Rick being the cutest with the baby! Rick making a baby carrier thing from a backpack? It was just so perfect! As good as shopping cart for a stroller! 

Magnum and Juliet actually being out of breath after running (!!) 

(because authentic! But must have been totally weird to film because how do you fake being out of breath? Run a block before each shoot?)

and the heart-eyes. So many heart-eye moments this episode.

The whole gang saying they want to keep being part of Hiapo's life and then more heart-eyes! 

I really do hope we get to see Hiapo in the next season, even just for a minute. Same with Roberto the Mouse. But they have been a lot better with continuity and bringing things back so maybe!

Yeah. This was possibly one of my favorite episodes of late. It was also on my wish list for season 3 (a baby/kid episode)!

Only minus I got for today is the fact that title is a little lackluster and I missed the Ferrari (but the Porsche is nice too!). I'd love to have a scene of Magnum trying to put the baby seat in the Ferrari and Higgy being all. "That's not going to work." (fic idea...)

Also next week promo is kind of vague and the summary (“A psychic hires Magnum and Higgins to prevent a murder she claims to have foreseen... ....and Higgins struggles with whether or not to tell Ethan the truth about her past”) makes me think we’ll get at scene or two with Ethan but let’s pray we’ll get mostly our faves bickering about psychics, how predicting the future is impossible and them talking about whether she should or not tell Ethan about her spy life! 

I wonder if she really will, because next week is the second to last of the episode (OMG only 2 more episodes of Magnum this season? How will I survive?). If she is supposed to ride off into the sunset with Ethan (or start to and then change her mind?) they can’t really have him be all that upset about it? Not that I think he would but maybe it would throw him for a bit of a curve ball since I figure Richard would be one of the things she told him about... 

Also wondering how it will come up? I’m picturing them walking along a dark street after a nice dinner and a guy tries to rob them (at gun point) and Higgy does a ninja move and takes his gun and is all “run along now before I shoot you” while Ethan does a Surprised Pikachu face. Then Magnum calls with a case and she’s like “Um, gotta go, we’ll talk about this later alright?” #IGotMyPrioritiesStraight

Last thing, bummer about the MacGyver cancelation. Selfishly (because while I like MacGyver, Magnum is my baby) I’m thinking this ups the odds of Magnum getting season 4 (and it does look kind of hopeful from what I was seeing on insta/twitter from someone higher ups, right?) I still signed the petition for season 6 for MacGyver because they deserve at least a last half season to wrap it up nicely!

1. Be your TC’s age or have your TC be your age?

Her be my age. I've always wondered what she was like when she was younger.

2. Have a summer fling with your TC, but never speak again afterwards or be in a long distance relationship with your TC for years, but never be able to meet in person?

Long-distance for sure. I can survive not being around people, even the ones I love.

3. Spend the day with your TC or pull an all nighter with your TC?

Spend all day with her. It would probably be the best day of my life, honestly speaking.

4. Accidentally confess your feelings to your TC while drunk or never confess your feelings to your TC?

Never confess. I'm not ever planning to, anyway, because I'd be risking too much for something she already knows, if I actually admitted to it. My tactic is to make her feel it instead, so I don't explode with all the emotion, but I don't have to come clean. I hide it in the small things I do for her or say to her. I make it subtextual. And that's enough for me.

5. Have your TC find out about your TCC blog and read every single post or relive your most embarrassing moment with your TC?

Relive that moment. I mean, it's just a moment, maybe I could approach it from a different perspective. But I don't want her on this blog. I don't want to scare her.

6. Go to a fancy restaurant with your TC or have a picnic with your TC?

I'm gonna be shallow here and pick the restaurant, just to see how she'd dress up 👀

7. Fly out of the country with your TC or drive/cycle cross country with your TC?

Flying, definitely. Ya know, I've only ever been on a plane once (okay, twice, if you count the way back) and that happened to be school-related and with a teacher. I was scared stiff, and because we were on really good terms, she ended up taking my hand to calm me down. I wouldn't mind a repeat of that, but with V this time...

8. Go to the movies with your TC or go to the museum with your TC?

Not big on either, but museum, I guess. We're both people who know a lot about the most eldritch shit possible, so it might even be fun. Not to mention she'd look especially gorgeous in that setting...

9. Never speak to your TC again, but still being able to see them out and about or never see your TC's face again, but still be able to call (not video call, only phone call), text and email them?

I think it would kill me not to speak to her ever again, so I'm thinking the latter. Just hearing her voice suffices perfectly.

10. Completely forgetting about your TC (they’re strangers to you) or feel as though your TC was some kind of ultra-realistic dream (you’re not sure whether it actually happened or you just dreamt it)?

My overthinking makes everything feel a little like a dream anyway, so I'll take it.

11. In a movie where your TC is the protagonist, be cast as the love interest or the antagonist?

While I have tremendous fun playing antagonists (they're usually better written, take it from a playwright), I wouldn't mind being the love interest this time... 👉👈

12. Confess your feelings in a letter or in person?

In person feels a bit more... real to me? I can't explain it, but like, a letter can be emotional and nice, sure, but a confession face-to-face is much more personal, much more brave and beautiful.

...says me, the one who prefers written communication and doesn't even want to confess. Though I would really want to see her eyes if I told her I loved her.

13. Get drunk with your TC or get high with your TC? 

After all those drinking stories of hers, I reeeeally want to see her drunk.

14. Having to social distance with everyone but your TC for a year or having to social distance with your TC but no one else for a year?

Everyone but her. I mean, I'm not big on being touched, anyway, I only like it from certain people and when it's not unexpected. And V gives INCREDIBLE hugs, as we all know. I think I'd quite like being able to touch only her for a year.

15. Get the chance to go through all of your TC's photo albums or get the chance to visit your TC's childhood home, current place and every school they’ve ever attended?

While all those places really interest me, I know for a fact that she has some... ahemm... rather very interesting photos, so I wouldn't exactly mind having a look at those...

16. Share a dorm with your TC for a month or be handcuffed to your TC for 24 hours? 

Handcuffing hinders us both unable to move properly, I think I'd go mad. I'm good with sharing a dorm.

17. Date someone with your TC's face/physical appearance but someone else’s personality or date someone with a different face but your TC’s personality?

Look, guys, we have the same face and physical appearance, so this isn't at all hard. Different face, same personality. V is stunning (okay, now this sounded weird, but those of you who've seen her can vouch for me), but I love what's inside way more.

18. Relive all of your favorite moments with your TC or have one of your dreams with your TC come to life?

Relive those moments for sure. Definitely. My dreams involving her are usually nothing much, or they all come true in some form, even if not exactly the way I dreamt it. But those memories... I want to see them again, especially the ones from before the blog, that I no longer remember that well.

19. Attend your TC’s wedding with someone else or move across the world from your TC and having to say goodbye? 

Move across the world. I don't think my heart could take a wedding.

20. Listen your TC’s playlist with them or go on a movie marathon of their favorite movies with them? 

I love music, and music happens to say a lot about who a person is, so I think I'd just jam with her. I'm the worst person to watch movies with. I comment on EVERYTHING.

Wave 4 Spoiler Round-Up 2

Yep, more spoilers for Wave 4. Let’s get started on the past 2 weeks’ worth of spoilers (I am not revealing any new cards here; they have all been revealed somewhere else first). If you don’t want spoilers, turn back before the picture.

First up is Private High Jump.

The final member of the Off-Road Patrol, and he’s just as disappointing as the other three. He does Repurpose with his tap ability (again, not a card I’m sure was good to begin with). It does however; give you a potential team for this lot. The only thing to ponder is who to team them with. Next is Raider Kickback.

Who… is very like Wave 1 Kickback. Except… this one wants a blue deck. He has Tough 1 in alt mode for each Insecticon you began the game with. Unlike Wave 1 Kickback; he does include himself! He could have Tough 4; and that will make him remarkably hard to kill (like Aimless)! And when he’s in bot mode… when one of your Insecticons attack and you flip at least 1 blue; the defender gets hit for 1 damage. This isn’t just when Kickback himself attacks; this when any of your Insecticons attack! Seems like a strong bot for me (I’m predicting a blue Insecticon deck storming into the meta). Next is Raider Sights.

Who is a Battle Master who turns into a Utility when KO’d. And an interesting Utility at that; he grants Focus 2 (which I hope stacks like Pierce does) as well as +1 attack and defense! Not bad. He himself has Focus 1 before getting KO’d; unusual for a Battle Master to have an ability. Next is Private Smokescreen.

Who has Safeguard 3 in alt mode (so can’t take more than 3 damage when he’s undamaged in this mode). And in Bot mode he has Focus 1 (like Arcee had in alt in Wave 3). But he also has +1 attack and defense while he has a white upgrade. My head immediately gravitates to giving him Anticipation Engine (I love that Upgrade!) but there’s also a nice one from this Wave that would work with him. Now on to Specialist Sandstorm.

And a return for triple-changers! And which mode you want Sandstorm to be in will depend on what your opponent has got. If they’ve got Melee characters; he’s going to want to sit in car mode for that +2 attack. If they’ve got Ranged characters; he’ll want to be in helicopter mode for that +2 defense. And if they’ve got Specialists; you’re going to want to flip him to bot mode to strike them for 1 damage! He has each of these traits as well; depending on which mode he is in. His stats are the same whatever mode he is in; unless his conditions are met to alter them. He seems like a really versatile character to me! The only shame is he is 11 stars and won’t fit into most decks. Now on to Captain Impactor.

Wreck and Rule, Wrecker Leader! The only shame with Impactor is he’s only good for giving out Bold 1 to every one when he flips to alt mode; but has it himself in bot mode. His stats are relatively solid for… he’s only 7 stars?! A 7 star tank! One that will be helpful in tank decks; I suspect. I’m happy to be proved right about him being in this Wave! Now on to Private Greenlight.

A female Autobot that went un-named for quite a while. Now she has a name at last! She also has Safeguard 3 (an ability I really like; are there any Decepticons with this ability, apart from Wave 1 Skrapnel?). She also has such a helpful little ability on her alt side. Your opponent can’t scrap her upgrades! If she flips to bot mode (which I wouldn’t do very often…) she gets +1 attack when you play a green card (I like that! Greenlight wants you to play green cards!). She seems like an ok character; but not really a stand out one. Now on to…

Captain Astrotrain! Another character I predicted and am very pleased to see in this Wave! He’s vanilla on all three sides… until he gets some Upgrades! In spaceship mode he has +1 defense when he defends and has at least 1 Upgrade. In train mode (another new alt; now bring us Rail Racer!) he gets +2 attack when he attacks if he has at least 2 upgrades. And finally in his best mode; bot mode, he gets +3 attack and defense when he battles if he has at least 3 upgrades! The only shame… he’s also 12 stars and again; won’t fit in many decks (but I’ll be teaming him with Blitzwing, because I want a Triple Takeover!) Next we have Private Sidetrack.

A little tank; who is only 4 stars. He does Treasure Hunt with his tap ability (a card that a lot of people rate; but I personally don’t). He’s only got 3 health (one shot from a bot with a Piercing Blaster will do him in) but a high defense of 3. Next is Private Fixit.

Who does System Reboot when tapped. Which isn’t all that bad, actually (since you need to scrap a card for him anyway; you don’t care about what you scrap). Personally; I would have liked him to do Medic! (If just because he’s the little Ambulance of the team). Now on to…

Sergeant Thundercracker! About time we got another Thundercracker (since we’ve had a Skywarp and a Starscream every set so far!) He’s a plane that wants a black deck… Like Nova Storm. When Thundercracker flips to alt mode… you check the top card of your deck. It’s Brunt’s ability that is the interesting bit; he makes it so enemies can’t have Bold or Tough higher than 1. That makes him a target; and gets his upgrades played nice and early! Next is his Autobot equivalent…

Sergeant Six-Gun! Who turns into… two weapons? How do you put two weapons on one character? At least… One of them can be put into an Armor or Utility slot instead. Together… the two Upgrades give +4 attack and Pierce 4! Which is huge! Then there’s what Six-Gun himself does; when he attacks, you can scrap a Weapon from your hand that gives an attack boost. If you do; Six-Gun gains that much attack until the end of the turn! So… if you give him a Grenade Launcher, then use his skill to scrap Erratic Lightning… He’s got a base Attack of… 11! That makes him quite the threat too; hence getting his Upgrades played nice and early. Now, from two firsts to Raider Hyperdrive.

He’s… interesting. He has Tough 2 while you have a Secret Action, either face up or face down on your field while he’s in bot mode. Not bad; if you run lots of Secret Actions and are likely to have one in play every turn. When you flip him to alt… his skill is actually very good. You look at the top card of your deck; then draw it. If that card had a blue icon; you draw another card. He seems to be angling for a blue deck… strange; since most cars want an orange one. Now on to Private Turbo Board.

Hoverboard is more like it. They turn into a Hoverboard for whoever equips them. They make it so the opponent can only play at most two cards (one action, one upgrade) during their turn. So they’re going to be a target if decks are relying on playing lots of cards in one turn (like say a Captain Wheeljack deck). Which then gets their Upgrade side played quicker. And their Upgrade side is beautifully evil. They give +1 attack and defense to the upgraded character. When the upgraded character (Battlefield Legend anyone?) attacks, and you flip at least one orange and one blue, you can play one of the orange or blue cards you flipped. Which is… disgusting! I’m pleased they’re 7 stars, so you can’t run two characters with the new General Optimus if Turbo Board is teaming with him. Finally, we have…

Raider Spinister! Yay for the Scavengers! (Now give us Misfire!) Spinister also would like to have Battle Master buddies. He seems to be the Decepticon version of Crosshairs; having two Weapon slots on each side. He also has +3 attack in alt mode if he has a Battle Master upgrade (Aimless anyone?) And when you flip him to bot mode; he gives +3 attack to one of your Battle Masters. His attack and defense seem a little on the low side for an 11 star character (compare his stats with Crosshairs, who is 10 stars). But I like him.

It's late and I'm fucking exhausted, but today was okay I guess. It would've been good probably if I wasn't depressed as fuck and just generally feeling like shit. But the good news is I'm going home tomorrow and I'll get to see my parents and my sister and even go on vacation and hopefully that'll help everything get better, for a little while at least (then I come back and start school, and we'll have to see how that goes). Anyway. Today. I was up to like 2 am for god knows what reason, but I was tired AF but of course had to get up anyway, so I did. Got to work to find a mostly abandoned office, which isn't terribly rare, a lot of people will take Friday off or do field work and not come into the office. It was mostly just me and jail phone calls, lucky me. I finished them, though it took most of the day. My total notes from there were a total of 41 pages, although I was kind and highlighted the best parts for the lawyer I was doing it for. I did find what you'd probably consider to be the "smoking gun", of course it was all the way at the end, but he basically said in no uncertain terms that he doesn't plan on ending their romantic relationship and just moved out to supposedly get their kids back, which is pretty much what we needed to prove they lied their asses off to the court when they said they split up (we knew they were lying, we just needed the proof) so at least there was some payoff for listening to all that craziness. I looked through about 530 pages of medical records and flagged important stuff for a case where the baby was born PCP-exposed, but they ultimately didn't take protective custody until an entire year later (they've been doing intact services for a lot of drug-exposed baby cases, depending on the drug anyway) so that was interesting, kind of, but mostly just boring. And yeah, now I'm here and I already said I was exhausted and then wrote this entire long post because apparently I had a lot to say anyway and I have to wake up in 5 hours and get on a plane and I'm not terribly pleased about that but oh well. so, i went onto the website with the annoying singing fat man, got a reasonable quote for my classic car, declared all cars in my household, one of which is a company car with 2 years NCB. Paid the deposit and remainder was to be paid monthly by direct debit. After a couple of weeks now they've written to me wanting proof of the NCB I stated, wanting details of the previous insurance and policy number. So, I email them (as they stated in the letter that this would be the quickest way to resolve and avoid having my policy cancelled) saying the NCB was on company insurance rather than another private insurance which i think they assume I have (the option on NCB on the website included NCB on company cars), no response to my email, so I send another, now I've had a red coloured letter threatening cancellation of my insurance unless I provide the information. Will getting married affect me being on my parents car insurance? My mom knows we are engaged my dad won't even know that until December. My husband and I just got married yesterday but our ceremony is not until August. I realized today I am on my parents car insurance. His name was John Gallivan, and I am John Gallivan Jr., so there was no big challenge in just moving the title over to me.”

As can happen in the life of a car enthusiast, Gallivan stumbled into becoming the owner of the one-of-a-kind Kircher when he was on the hunt for his Gullwing’s original engine, which he ran in the Colorado Grand.

Now 76 and retired back in Salt Lake City, he thinks of his own fiscal legacy. “I have no plans to sell the car,” he says, “but I thought maybe the next generation would [benefit from doing so].”

In the post-WWII era, soldiers returning from overseas or assisting in the war effort on the homefront put their gearhead field experience to good use in the customization and hot-rodding of automobiles. According to historians, even before the Corvette was launched in 1953, there were more than 50 American-made sports-car models. Many of these were manufactured in limited numbers—by hobbyists, obsessives, or entrepreneurs—some with the dream of becoming regular production cars, some to be raced in early Sports Car Club of America events. Their activity was clustered on the coasts, particularly the West Coast, but pockets existed nationwide.

Charles Hughes of Denver, Colorado, the scion of a wealthy local family, developed a passion for speed before the war, testing planes for the military and sponsoring vehicles in the Indy 500. After the armistice, he further indulged this interest by purchasing a Jaguar XK120 to race. He bought the car new from Kurt Kircher, who owned the local foreign car shop, Denver Import Motors. Kircher was an amateur racer himself who’d had some success with a Chrysler Hemi-powered Allard J2X, one of the quickest cars of its time, if a bit crude.

The two became fast friends, quite literally. Kircher had a degree in automotive engineering—he’d worked for General Motors on post-war V-8s and the Powerglide transmission. Hughes had a degree in physics as well as a stellar machine shop in his six-car garage. So in the early ’50s, the pair decided, according to a history Kircher wrote a few years before his death in 2004, “It would be fun to try to build something better.”

Familiar with the Jag powertrain, they decided to create a clean-sheet racer around an engine and transmission salvaged from a wrecked XK120. Kircher designed the drilled chrome-moly tube frame, rear De Dion suspension, and inboard rear-wheel drums and safety hubs. The front suspension came from the Jag. The steering rack came from an MG. The rear differential came from Halibrand. The rest of the bits were either shopped or poached.

According to a murky chronology, he apparently found a wrecked SL and traded its powertrain to a friend at Mercedes-Benz in Germany for a hotted-up race version allegedly prepared for the Mille Miglia. Kircher installed it in his car and went to work winning more races.

Soon after, however, advances such as disc brakes rendered the car’s drums somewhat archaic, and the owners decided not to invest in it further. The Kircher eventually passed to body-maker Lyons, who apparently traded the race engine in it for a stock one from another 300 SL in Colorado Springs. It was this factory engine that, again mysteriously, came out of the car the Gallivans would eventually purchase. (Confused yet? You’re not alone. It’s like a game of three-card monte with engines.)

A succession of owners followed—including Bugatti collector Carlton Coolidge and the Blackhawk Museum—before the Special passed into the hands of Court Whitlock in Missouri. Whitlock campaigned it on the vintage race circuit in the States, as well as more far-flung locales such as New Zealand, Singapore, and Malaysia. He had the car cosmetically restored by Moore’s Automotive Archeologists and showed it at the Amelia Island Concours in 2014.

The Classic Center’s Kunz spotted the vehicle on the field at Amelia that year and immediately noticed the big three-pointed star on the hood. “I remember walking by the car, and I went, ‘Oh my God, who did this?’” Kunz says and laughs. “Not knowing there’s a very cool story to who did this.”

Or that he’d soon be involved in undoing and redoing this.

Neither did they particularly care. “Dad loved the car,” Gallivan says. “I don’t think it ever occurred to him that it was flawed or imperfect because of some mismatch, in part because selling was never on the table.” And no one knows why or when it was put into the car, why or when the factory engine was taken out, and whatever became of that alleged Mille Miglia racing engine from Stuttgart. But all old car stories are seemingly full of incomprehensible apocrypha. “There’s a disruption in the continuity that cannot be overcome,” Gallivan says.

He offered Whitlock’s representative, Moore, the opportunity for a swap: his rebuilt engine for the proper one in the Kircher, whatever its condition. But Whitlock was no longer driving the car, and his interest in an updated engine was minimal. “He insisted that if I wanted the engine I’d have to buy the whole car,” Gallivan says.

Among his two daughters and three grandkids, no one really cares about cars—“I’m very concerned about this,” he jokes—so he viewed his plan as an investment in their future financial stability. I have migraine auras, macular degeneration, ringing ears, some kind of weird outcropping on my kidney, a bladder condition, one bad hip, and two bad knees,” he wrote, wryly. “Today I bought a race car.”

While this occurred at the Classic Center, Gallivan decided to have the rebuilt, unmatched straight-six from his dad’s car installed in the racer. His plan was to have it ready in time to drive it in the Colorado Grand, a 1,000-mile historic tour through the Rockies. After this, he would sell it.

The Kircher has no top or windshield to speak of. It also lacks windows, ventilation, a stereo, a driver’s side door, a speedometer, or any other modern comforts. “You’re exposed from the nipples up. You have no protection. But even in the cold of the night, in the rain, in the dark, immense heat pours through that firewall,” Gallivan says. Yet despite all of this, he fell in love with the Special. “The car is so endearing,” he concedes. “It’s magic, and it’s very lucky for me. I mean, I got the engine reunited, and I had this great experience with it. I just think I will hold onto it as long as I can.”

Gallivan was kind enough to share the magic with us, allowing us to drive his one-off race car. We’ve had the good fortune of getting behind the wheel of a few 300 SLs, so the stiff four-speed shifter and period VDO gauges were familiar. We were not prepared, however, for the tractability. The Kircher’s front overhang is shorter than a Gullwing’s, so the turning circle is tighter. The suspension setup and ride quality is superior, more pliant and less unpredictable compared to the sporadically terrifying swing axles on the factory car.

But the real difference is in the speed. Because of its stripped-down interior, aluminum body, and drilled frame, the Kircher is hundreds of pounds lighter than a standard SL, closer in spec to one of the rare aluminum-bodied Gullwings. And because of the side exhausts exiting just aft of the front right wheel, the straight-six’s sound is both more proximal and more intoxicating, a guttural snarl not usually associated with Mercedes of the era. Although it’s fussy like all old sports cars, it just wants to go at all times.

Almost a year ago today I decided I was either gonna boost my Si or trade it in for a 10th gen hatchback sport by the end of 2017. Instead of using that money to boost or tade in, ended up buying a lightly modded 2016 FRS. Got this car for such a good deal. If I disregard all the mods and look at this car as completely stock with only 15k miles, it’s still less than any other 2016 with similar mileage currently out on the market. 

Surprisingly the owner installed the same mods I was looking into buying anyways. Openflash UEL headers running the OFT Stage 2 tune, lowered about 1.5 inches on Tein Flex Z coilovers. He did install the Grimmspeed CAI and Nameless catted downpipe, but honestly I think those are a waste of money for an NA build. Let’s be real, an intake and downpipe plus a cat back exhaust would probably net 4-5whp WITH a tune. Definitely not worth the $1,500 for such a small gain and what’s mostly just for sound. There’s not really much left I would want to do performance wise. Will not be going boost, although I’m really tempted to go the turbo route. It was nice to actually talk to the seller directly about the car and the mods, and not a dealer who has no clue what was modded or how it was driven.

I like that he chose to be different and plasti dipped his wheels white instead of running black wheels like most people. Personally though, I’ll be swaping the wheels to some XXR 527′s at 17x8 +35 or +42, in a matte bronze finish once the tires need to be replaced. Waiting for my Valenti Red Edition tail lights to come in. Already swapped all the interior lights and license plate lights to white leds. Transferred the HID kit that I’ve been using since I had the tC, went back to 5000K from the 6000K I ran on the Si. Seriously though, I’m surprised the ballast from the $50 kit I got from HIDxtra back in 2009 is still going strong. It’s just been multiple bulbs and one corroded relay harness that I have replaced. Gonna swap the gauge cluster LEDs to all blue with white warning indicators, similar to what I did for the tC. That’s pretty much all I needed to do for cosmetics. Later on I plan on installing a flex fuel kit to run e85. Not sure what I’ll do for suspension yet. Wanted to take it to TWS sometime in the spring to wait and see how the current set up is before deciding on what to change. But from the three hour trip from SA, I was pretty impressed with how the car felt with just the stock suspension with coilovers. Quite the difference compared to the setup on my Si. I really love the seats. Fits snug and I don’t move around at all. Power wise, the FRS doesn’t pull as hard as the Si. But that’s expected with the FRS having lower torque. Even on an agressive tune for the FRS, it’s running almost 20 wtq less than what I’m used to. But power isn’t the reason I got this car.

I still really love and enjoy the Si. Was hoping to at least sell the car to my cousin to keep it in the family. Unfortunately my uncle isn’t looking to pay for another car right now. The only thing I’m not gonna miss about that car is the black paint. It looks soooo good when it’s clean, it just gets dirty too easily. I’ll drive around town the day after a wash, and there’s dust settled on the rear bumper. Wish I knew if there was just a certain road I drive on or if all the roads I drive on cause that. I like to try and keep the car clean. Idk maybe it’s just me, I’ll see all the small amount of dust or dirt on the car, and it’ll start to bug me. Most people probably just see a shiny black car and not notice a light layer of dust. I wash my car once a week on Sundays, but I’m not gonna wash it every other day because of dust. I don’t enjoy spraying quick detailer and wiping it with a mf towel every few days either. So I’m very glad to be going back to white.

At least I’ll have no problem selling the mods from the Si. Most everything I got is in high demand. Especially in the case of the OEM projector headlights. Not many people in North America are going to be rocking those, unless they had a friend import them here. Everything I bought was used and cheaper than what they usually sell for, so I can pretty much recover most if not all of what I spent.

Recently I’ve been helping my sister find a gift for her bf. She wanted to give him something when she comes back to CS, before he finishes his finals at A&M and heads back to SA. She told me he’s similar to me and likes RC stuff and model kits. Since he’s an engineering student, I jokingly/seriously told her to get him a light model frame for a plane, so he can then build the motor and w/e he needs to be able to make it fly. She just laughed at me. Couple days later she sends me a screen cap of a text of her using me to try and pry more info out of him so she knows what exactly he wants. The last text bubble is him pretty much saying he likes to build cheap model planes so he can put RC parts into it so he can fly them. That way at least if it crashes and breaks, it wasn’t one of those $400 RC planes. Yo, what’d I say?!

We found some cheap wood frame planes that include the motor, that he can then use with his existing controller. I’m thinking to myself these actually look interesting and fun. May end up buying a couple for myself. Then I made the mistake and looked at the side tabs and saw one for cars. Curiosity had to take over and I ended up clicking on it. Big mistake because I ended up looking at all the drift cars they have. I could look at most of the cars and I say I’d want it but don’t need it. That was until I saw a frame for the FT86.. OMG! I still have my modded rc drift car that has a tC body shell, for when I owned a tC as well. So for sure, I’m now gonna buy a MST MS-01D chassis with a white 86 body shell. A kit with everything needed to run it is already pretty pricey. Then I noticed there’s a lot of upgrades for these things. Performance and cosmetic upgrades. GDI, I dun need another expensive hobby. Good thing I don’t live in Japan. Super Autobacs, Gundam Base Tokyo, Tamiya Plamodel Factory, and Akihabara area are like heaven to me. Think I could do with a stock setup for awhile. Maybe get similar wheels to the XXR’s and paint them matte bronze. I can already tell I’d bring this thing with me into town. So if I get bored in town, I can take it out in an empty section of a parking lot or go to the park.

Magnum PI 3.06 - The Day Danger Walked In

Where do I even begin with this episode?

Once more this was just an overall enjoyable episode with all my favorite bits! Miggy, fun side plot for the guys, (though I missed the Ferrari and beautiful Hawaii aerial shots…)and once more a totally coincidental very dangerous situation because of mostly bad luck.

I think I’m going to start with the last one.

This episode features the second full episode of hostage-by situations we’ve gotten this season. What else have we had this season - 5 episodes in? Well, let’s see the two robbery/hostage episodes, Higgy being shot. A plane crash. Now Ethan getting shot. (Plus the weird stalker in the white SUV.) 3.04 was the only really case-like ‘normal’ episode we’ve had!

Everything is a bit higher stakes this season (we also got the Juliet/Ethan thing, suddenly giving us some emotional “danger”, making us wonder how this will impact Magnum and Higgins’ relationship.) Danger is around every coroner. So ride out a hurricane in peace? Nope, forget it!

And while I very much enjoy the higher stakes, it starts becoming a little unbelievable (what? A TV show being unbelievable?). But it’s more the coincidences of how things go from ‘bad’ to ‘OMG’ that sometimes get to me. How is it they can’t even go for a green card interview in peace? 10 minutes earlier of an appointment time, that episode would not have existed. Like being trapped in a storm isn’t enough, we gotta add armored car robbers! The probability of them picking La Marianna is just so small it annoys me a bit.

I do enjoy it more when Magnum and Higgins are on a case and that leads them into danger. Being shot or crashing a plane because you went out and looked for trouble makes sense (even if it’s very unbelievable too I know…) Danger just happening… it’s a little bit of lazy writing in my opinion. I mean wasn’t it enough that the storm warning came just as Ethan had arrived but not before they had time to leave on their date? That alone is a fairly big coincidence... 

I mean I still really enjoyed this episode. It wasn’t all hostage but a lot of stuff around it, and it was more of a backdrop. Something to cause problems that had to be solved by various people working together and thus showing off their dynamic and letting them interact (such as Ethan and Magnum with the gas + talk about Higgy, Magnum/Higgy/Ethan when he was shot, Kumu/ Shammy and even Ethan/Higgy a little.)

All the relationship stuff is really what this episode is all about. We got TC and Rick moments (with Thomas being a little bit of confidant) about trust and being partners, Ethan/Higgy/Magnum - how does Ethan fit in stuff, separate from that some Miggy feels and Juliet asking/hoping Thomas and Ethan if they can be friends because she thinks her and Ethan might get serious and just all around through-out the episode Juliet being quite worried about what Thomas thinks of her boyfriend. 

Yet while we got a lot of stuff going on (some quite coincidental), still it felt like just the right amount of everything. A bit of Ethan, some jealous Magnum, not too much case, just enough fun and games and crazy to make it never boring and some good heart to heart feel-y moments to give some pay off towards the end. It’s like they finally found their groove this season and almost every episode just feels like it’s really working on all levels!

My fave moments

I had some favorite moments; Gordon going “She really wanted that power saw” about Juliet when they were putting up boards at the beginning. She really did and it was so fun. I love when Higgy doesn't get what she wants and is a bit salt-y with someone other than Thomas...

Magnum being all “It’s like me dating a client!” Um hello excuse me but did you not ask out Mitten’s the cat’s owner? (Well her mom, if we’re being technical?) Sure it’s totally about Ethan having been Higgy’s doctor…

Juliet being all “Thomas likes you fine” but then becoming suddenly super observant of how he acts and then realizing he’s not fine with it? Going so far as to actually start on a “Ethan seems to think-” before Magnum interrupts with dead security guard photos.

Magnum actually admitting he’s not sure how to share Higgy with Ethan...

Rick being tormented by the fact that he lied to TC.

Juliet drying off Ethan and handing Magnum a towel and the way he smiles and then looks so forlorn! It’s just so...I don’t know but it gives me feels and I need gifs.

The last two minutes are my favorite. From Higgy showing up, Rick sending her over to paint with Magnum, her being all ‘looks fine’ ‘liar’, her thanking him for being nice but admitting “it was really stupid” about Ethan rushing in and getting shot. That was just amazing. 

That whole end bit was just so pure and sweet and my poor baby face when she’s all “it’s pretty serious, I want you guys to be friends”. Someone hug him.

(Also who taught you how to paint? You’re just painting in the same spot over and over again!! I know it’s about them having a moment but I’m low-key annoyed on Rick’s behalf on them both sucking at it!)

Speaking of annoyed… (Ethan rant-ish bits up) 

I’m not sure how I feel about Ethan being shot and all of them being locked in a freezer (I know would have preferred a Magnum/Higgy locked in a freezer and it’s very cold story-line...but you know, we take what we can get). Him being shot felt very random and I think we almost could have just done without it? Like he could have been smacked with a gun and had a head wound. I mean I guess the only reason for him getting shot in the leg is to make sure Juliet doesn't end up going ice skating with him… (Or to make sure we don’t have to see him while he’s getting his leg back in working order... )

What was that anyways?

Ethan plans on taking Higgy ice skating and we learn that Juliet has apparently never been from Magnum. A) Why do I love that Magnum just know this, like they talked about it? B) What respectable English person has never been ice skating? C) If Ethan knew she’d never been, why would he suggest it? Unless she asked to go. I mean I get maybe he was hoping for a cute ‘trust me, I won’t let you fall’ sort of situation, but he’s been on a number of dates with Higgy by now. He must know how she hates being well... not the best at something (everything...) Going skating was not really a good plan.

Also who the heck goes ice skating in HAWAII!!! I mean come on Ethan! You’re a doctor, you’re supposed to be smart. Why not have a romantic beach picnic, much better chances of something fun going down… I’m just saying. 

Anyways, I honestly don’t know what to feel about Ethan. I like that he seems nice and not threatened by Magnum (well, for now, spend another few hours with them, you might not be so chill…) and sees that working with him is important to Juliet. Frankly I just hope things get serious with them, but in the end Juliet realizes he’s not for her and just breaks up with him because she wants to. Not because he’s a bad guy working for evil SUV guy or because does something awful. Just because while she likes him, she doesn't feel like he’s the one. Since this season seems to be drama-drama I think something dramatic is bound to happen… but I guess we’ll see!

In Conclusion

I loved it, but was a bit annoyed at some parts. I feel like everything is just flowing so well this season and I can’t wait to see how the big bad turns out and the Ethan thing and La Marianna and just all around I’m more invested in everything.

Next week’s episode looks very exciting! I’m excited for some dramatic (yet we took this case so it’s not that unrealistic) stuff going down. Kidnappings and Miggy freaking out when ‘tragedy occurs’ (and maybe having some moments). I must say as much as I enjoyed this end scene last week’s Miggy end moment (3.04( beats this one’s by just a tiny amount...

Magnum PI 2x19 “May the Best One Win”review AKA Fangirling over my new favorite episode

Staring off we got the whole Magnum introducing Higgy as his partner...or TC’s fiancee and TC being all “we cool man?” and Magnum saying what us fans were all screaming last week (Magnum: IT MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE IF SHE MARRIES ME! I WANT TO BE HER KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOUR DAMMIT!)

Then Higgy is all “If you are done fighting over me...” - I mean, just, yeah, throw that in there just to torment me some more.

We basically transitions right into Magnum suggesting a divorce lawyer for Higgy in case she and TC ever “hit a rough patch” and her being all “I’m marrying TC to make sure WHAT WE HAVE doesn't get FUCKED UP, can’t you see that?” (I’m paraphrasing but that was the gist of it) I just can’t with this. It’s like 2 minutes in and I’m like in shipper heaven.

Anyways, then we have the case! The let’s work both sides and make double the money and just the whole both spouses think the other is cheating but it’s all just a big misunderstanding and goodness, happiness and love wins in the end? It totally works for me. This is the kind of PI cases I WANT. Like not super serious people dying cases and shoot outs! People just being stupid and Magnum and Higgy helping uncover their secrets and then making everything better!

We also get the “May the Best PI win!” which I’ve been waiting for since we got the spoiler bit for this ages ago. 

So we got a side plot with Rick that I really- REALLY - like for once! Want to guess why? BECAUSE IT TIES INTO THE THEME! Like huh? They manged that for the first time since forever? 

Yeah, I’m shocked too. But someone really thought about this or they got really lucky by chance because;

First we got the married couple not communicating and about to lose their chance at a love and a happy future because of it. When all their secrets are out they can finally start to fix things and heal.

Secondly we got the woman whose dad dies and she tries not to care because they didn’t have contact for so long but when Rick goes looking he realizes her dad did care and he lost his chance at love because he didn’t communicate. Now she can hopefully heal from both the sadness of her dad leaving as a kid and being dead and be a little happier.

Then we maybe kind of have Higgy who by deciding to actually listing to what she’s feeling for once and deciding not to get married to TC for the wrong reason/ not wanting to live a lie (making it possible for her to find love and happiness with the right person in the future...)

I don’t know, maybe the Higgy one is reaching a bit but the main theme of we don’t know what we or other people are really feeling or thinking and we act anyway, that’s when we get in trouble pretty much work for everything.

Which is a really freaking great + it’s a good theme! It’s true but no so on the nose as something like ‘don’t lie’ or ‘love fixes everything’.

So yeah. Now back to the Miggy godness.

We got:

Kumu’s “The way you two bicker you might as well be married.”

I mean! Come on!

Then fun times with Higgy getting all the guys to do her bidding...and also actually paying for gas! I do hope this comes back in season 3 where Magnum realizes his pals actually deserves praise and compensation/ or them being all “we’re not helping unless you pay us like Higgy does”.

This could be a character growth kind of possibility arch, thingie, episode or whatever for next year.

The other arch for Thomas Magnum I really want to see in season 3 is the I’m FINE (but I’m not) one kind of lead to something (something bad). 

I know they’re going for a go-lucky kind of Magnum but fact is Magnum is a solider who spent time in a POW camp, he was betrayed by his ex-fiance, one of best friend got tortured and killed like not super long ago, his ex-fiance came back and shot him then came back again and died in his arms, his partner nearly drowned and he CPR her back to life, he thought he had a future with Abby but she dropped him like a hot potato and most recently he got swapped out of his (fake) wedding last minute, then fake wedding didn’t happen and he though he’d be separated from the love of his life his partner for an unknown amount of time and all he’s been saying is “I’m fine”. 

He’s got some baggage and having him always go I’M FINE isn’t really good or healthy because he isn’t fine. He doesn't have to be fine. Except when he acts like he’s not fine (like after Abby) everyone just tries to make him cheer-up when maybe he kind of needs to talk to someone about the kind of wacky stuff he’s been through. This is both something he and Higgy and even the guys need to work on. Basically it was only Gordon who was like, it’s rough, I’m here for you. I mean Higgy was there for him too, she just said “Staycation” a lot to make it not seem like she was because emotions, scary. 

Still I need like Magnum having nightmares about something and actually being all “I’m not fine” and for someone to go “okay. that’s fine. you don’t have to be okay all the time” (Oh this just screams at me to fanfic:it, but I just can’t start anymore of them without finishing a few. So bad thought, bad, go away.)

So, um where was I before I got sidetracked? Oh, right the general wonderfulness of the episode?

Gordon making Magnum say: I’m kinda useless without Higgins.

Then having Magnum take hacking lessons from like a 12 year old on Youtube and begging Kumu lie about having seen Higgins computer (how has he not gotten his own laptop yet???) 

I mean it’s almost not funny anymore (It is. It’s legit the most I’ve smiled in a while.)

“Maybe I’ll let the wife decide“ when buying pie and then bringing said pie back to Higgins. 

“There’s a hug and then there is a hug.”

(I needed this to be foreshadowing and IT WAS NOT! I still can’t hate it because she kind of agree there are different hugs and now I want all the hugs for them...or you know just one! ONE HUG!)

And winner of this round of random things I loved, might be: “You figure out I’d make a better fake husband than TC?”

Can you be more obvious Magnum?

Then Higgins saying “I do still need a maid of honor!” (which we know isn’t true because last week she said she’d asked Kumu but we’re assuming she’s saying it just to tease him). But this made me think of that move Made of Honor movie with Patrick Dempsey where the guy she asks to be her maid of honor is actually the guy she ends up really marrying... at some later point.

Also has anyone sounded more British than Higgy going; “Oh no not the pie.“ after Magnum was all; “I’m taking my pie with me!” 

Then we got my babies being sneaky and adorable and working together (because you know, even when they’re not on the same team, they are).

Then we got them kicking ass together (well more like getting their asses kicked) and only Higgy getting the gun saves them. But you know, that’s okay because I love it when she gets to be a bad-ass and knock people out. 

I do feel like we need to work a little more on the realism on how bruises work on pale people, especially girls. Because you know, Higgy got slammed into like a table and slapped and seriously has anyone been slammed into a table by a really big guy lately? Well, and let me tell you from experience, even being slammed into a table by a small guy leave a bruise. And no way would she not get a swollen eye or lip from a slap that spun her around and landed her on the floor. Do you know how hard you need to slap someone for that? I mean she’s tiny (she’s what 5′4? 1115 pounds soaking wet?) and the guy was big but, still in real life she wouldn’t even be getting up, she’d be out cold, but it’s TV-land so I’ll forgive it but still, wouldn’t a tiny bit of blood on her lip make sense?

It’s kind of strange because sometimes they seem to really like putting the blood and gooe make-up on both Perdita and Jay and other times it’s like, nope, nothing, we’re invincible vampires this episode.

For today I understand the why of it though. They wanted our babies to look pretty for the wedding. Well, the wedding that doesn't happen which we all knew but still... 

Before that though; TC planing on crying at his fake wedding? Adorable.

First of all how does she mange to look both stunning and terrified this whole scene? 

Look at her big eyes with the I’m about to cry shininess. Also the flower bits in her hair totally not her yet somehow totally works. 

I also love how when he first enters he stops and looks at her for a second, like Higgy in a wedding dress. I think I might have some feels. And come on Thomas, couldn’t you have told her she looks nice? You can clearly see she’s freaking. But no you go straight for the “fake nerves?” which I guess makes sense because maybe someone told you there was only 2.5 minutes left of the episode so there was no time for compliments...

Anyways, then comes the heartbreaking bit. Because she has changed her mind and isn’t going to marry TC (or him). She’s not going to marry anyone and she’ll have to leave him.

Leading us to the “Just fine.” moment I equally hate and love. 

Don’t they both kind of look like they’re about to cry here? I feel like that’s the general vibe, or maybe it was the fact that I was tearing up a bit when I first watched it that makes me feel like that...

And as always tumblr stole the stuff I wrote here! I wish I’d learn and could go one week without losing like a chunk of text.

So I was just basically saying I loved this but I’d much rather have had Magnum go “No, I won’t” (when she says he’ll be fine) and then have her be “yes you will” and then he could just be Shrug or go “I guess I’ll have to be��� or something else dramatic to show it’s a big deal to him. Then next week we could have him be really trying hard to reach Robin instead of having it all just be fixed with one little phone call. Like maybe Robin is undercover for his new book so Magnum has to make some sort of deal with some shady person who works for Robin to get his undercover contact. Or something and that could come back in season 3 as an episode...

Wow, this got kind of long, but yeah, I just loved this episode and wanted to gush about it and probably I won’t gush (or even complain) as much about 2x20 so it’ll even out in length...
