im afraid the sambucky era is back for me. brainrot so strong they made me write again after months of wanting to write but just can't. the genre is bucky utterly achingly obviously in love with sam of course. nothing but respect and adoration to HIS captain america.

Doing my annual cap series rewatch and i realized that not only does bucky know multiple languages but Sam has now been shown speaking in Arabic, Spanish, Japanese (if I remember correctly from cap 4, if not Japanese he spoke another language besides Spanish) so now I firmly believe they’re the couple that’ll just blatantly talk shit about someone in front of the person in a different language

I’VE MISSED BEING ON TUMBLR.

I’ve been active on X and reacting to everything SAM WILSON related. My heart has been exploding, 3 years of missing Sam and to see him in all his Captain America glory, being majestic and heroic, has been a dream come true. I can’t wait for the light to be shining on him, he deserves the world. Also Sambucky has had me on chokehold for more than 3 years now and I’m still not over them. They are my heart and my mind is full of Sambucky brainrot, even after a this big of a drought. I’m just so ecstatic to get them back on What If!!! Would be great to get them together on the movies too instead of that forced divorce, but I love me some angst so in my mind they still love each other but they know they have to be separate for their respective missions.

all these people think love’s for show (but i would die for you in secret) aka the sambucky fake dating fic because i think this one was fun and funny and the social media aspects were very fun to do

who you gonna call? aka the stoncy + robin ghost files au because I had fun coming up with high stakes spooky town stuff while also writing the in-denial pining and jealousy in the “flashbacks”

you can hear it in the silence aka the stoncy didn’t know they were dating fic bc i had a lot of brainrot while writing this one and had a fun time thinking abt it at work and looking forward to coming back to it and writing more

help to make the season bright aka the stoncy hallmark au which is i guess a weird pick for this list since i was having a lot of bad mental health days while writing it, at least toward the end, but tbh this fic was partially cathartic bc i used it to project lmao and also i liked kinda twisting the hallmark tropes on its head, it was fun

listen—now listen here! i'm such a slut for fandom crossovers, and i'm back on my sambucky shit after cabnw, so the idea of sambucky being bounty hunters in the 1890s and hunting down the van der linde gang for crimes, and eventually going after charthur for a robbery/heist gone wrong and what not is making me tweak out y'all have no idea.

the entire idea under the cut bc i needed to get the brainrot out!!

like??? somehow the job gets jinxed, and now arthur and charles are wanted across new hanover and lemoyne bc it was a pretty big fucking job. dutch trusted arthur with it, and arthur trusted no one but charles to have his back during it. it wasn't rocket science. the sky is blue. the grass is green. arthur trusts charles with his life bc his husband (unofficially, they're not married yet bc of ✨modern era homophobia✨) might be a gentle soul but he will also fuck shit up when arthur needs him.

so after the job goes sideways, a pair of bounty hunters from another state hear about it, learns about the money and realizes it could probably get them far, far away from the shithole they've found themselves in after a few reasons i need to come up with lmao. sam is a little skeptical about it bc the west doesn't take kindly to new comers, especially those who are inching their way into enemy hunter territories, but bucky convinces him that it'll be alright. that afterwards they can use the money to finally settle down somewhere, find a nice place up north where no one will look at them sideways for holding hands in public. it's a dream, alright, one dream that sam doesn't think possible unless he has bucky with him.

so, fast forward some time. sambucky are on charthur's tail, and they almost got them too, but the pinkerton's, like always, get in the way bc they're a bunch of pricks who don't want some new comers sticking their nose in private business. sambucky and charthur are separated, sam ends up escaping with arthur and bucky with charles. the new pairs somehow end up on totally opposite sides of the state, charles and bucky in the mountains and sam and arthur more down south, hiding out in abandoned cabins and bunkers.

they end up working together, the four of them, trying to find their partners in the mess they've landed themselves in. they've come to a mutual agreement that if they end up finding each other before the pinkerton's do, sambucky will leave charthur alone, go on back to where they came from bc fuck this shit.

sam and arthur end up having a nice heart to heart after the whole "help me find my hus—partner" thing that obviously goes down lmao. sam talks about how bucky was kidnapped and toured by [insert antagonist here] and that bucky's afraid he'll revert back to the person he was before, leave sam, and most likely hurt himself.

"he's...hurt people. he doesn't want to now, but sometimes—sometimes he does and he can't snap back right away. he wasn't made to hurt, he just thinks he was."

and arthur—oh arthur, he thinks about charles and those exact thoughts, thinks about how charles has lived a life of violence at such a young age and that he thinks he's made to hurt and suffer in a world where arthur just wants to hold and care for him. arthur mentions this, charles and his struggles as well, and sam laughs. it's the first time arthur's seen him smile since he was with his partner, chasing them on horseback.

"we really know how to pick 'em, huh?"

and arthur agrees, bc he wouldn't have it any other way.

meanwhile, charles and bucky are getting off on the wrong foot. they're in the middle of a snowstorm, lost bucky's horse somewhere in the chase, and they're pretty sure a pack of wolves are somewhere over the ridge, stalking them and preparing for a strike. eventually, they find an abandoned cabin and bucky is so quick to light a fire and get warm bc when it's cold like this—when his bones feel frigid and his teeth chatter and his hands and feet go numb, he's taken back to those people who tortured him. charles doesn't bother with him as bucky sits close to the fire. he silently inspects his belongings, takes inventory of the limited canned goods in the kitchenette, and immediately starts planning out how he's gonna find arthur.

bucky makes a few comments about how when he finds sam, they're taking charthur in and getting that bounty money, so charles better be on his best behavior unless he wants to be taken in first. charles just ignores him, but his hand does itch to grab his shotgun and blow this guys brain matter across the dirty floor.

eventually, they end up talking about themselves. they share a love for books and for fine weaponry. charles shows him the bow arthur made for him years ago that still looks brand new, all shiny and well kept. bucky shows charles his arm, the prosthetic that a scientist from the group who captured him made out of titanium. sometimes he hates it bc it acts as a reminder of what he went through, but sam helped him realize that it's really fucking cool. then bucky ends up talking about sam, about all the ways sam is amazing and he's a kind person and he's so kick ass bc sam wilson is just that awesome.

charles clocks him instantly, gives bucky a raised eyebrow bc "i know what you mean. my husband is pretty amazing too."

and something shifts, then. a camaraderie forms, a mutual understanding of just want sam and arthur mean to bucky and charles.

it takes a few days for them to be reunited. arthur and sam, believe it or not, have a little friendship going on between them. they've joked and unlocked friendly banter, they're similar, in some ways. the same way the sun shines and the flowers grow and in the same way charles and bucky run up to them and tackle their husbands in tight hugs.

it's all smothering and reassuring words after that, but for a moment both arthur and bucky go rigid, looks over their shoulders and immediately draws their guns bc before they were separated, bucky and arthur were giving each other pretty decent punches to the face. which leads to sam and charles drawing their own, all four barrels pointed to someone's head.

"let's all just calm down," sam says, carefully watching arthur's gun. he's seen what arthur can do, and not even bucky is fast enough to dodge that kind of bullet. "there's no need for us to get messy again. just lower the guns."

"tell yer man first," arthur snarls. he shifts closer to charles, looks him over again bc he needs to. "i swear, if you did anythin' to him—"

"i didn't," bucky bites. "not a single hair on your husband's precious head is outta place."

arthur goes rigid, looks at charles for confirmation.

"they're like us," charles says. he's the first to hostler his gun, soon followed by sam. "just a pair of men trying to make a living in a world that don't want them."

arthur glances at him, meets charles' eyes, and finally, puts his gun away. bucky does the same, but not before giving arthur a mean glare.

it's not entirely pleasantries after that. arthur and bucky still give each other the stink, and rightfully so bc bucky has a mean cut on his upper lip and arthur has a purple bruise shining near his left eye. sam and charles, however, aren't as roughed up as their husbands, but they don't exactly extend a friendly either.

"thank you," sam says before the four of them depart, "for getting him back to me. buck's a lot, especially in unfamiliar territory. we won't bother you folks again."

charles hum, acknowledging that their husbands aren't all that different. "arthur as well. he didn't try to shoot you, did he?"

"oh, no he did. missed on purpose a few times because i said either i'll kill him in my final moments, or bucky would hunt him down and gut him like a fish."

charles, acknowledging this fact too because he's seen bucky kill a pinkerton who said he'd love to get to sam first, hums, crosses his arms. "i'd like to see him try."

sam chuckles, and so does charles, and then, their husbands are trotting over with their horses. they face each other one last time, charles and arthur heading back to camp and sam and bucky on their way to new york.

"fellas," arthur says, tipping down his hat.

bucky returns his sentiment. "thanks for keeping my husband alive. i would've killed you if you didn't."

"or i would've killed you."

"pretty sure i was the one who gave you that black eye."

"only because you got the jump on me, you slimy bastard. how's that fat lip treatin' you?"

"not well enough," sam interjects. he takes the reins of his horse and steers him into the east. "until next time, boys."

charles nods towards the couple, motions for arthur to follow him. as they ride back to camp they both retell their stories, swapping little moments shared between their unlikely acquaintances. at one point, charles mentions how him and bucky are similar, their mindsets, and arthur laughs.

"that's what me and sam said 'bout you two. but you're prettier."

charles laughs at that too, and all is well again.

on the other side of the heartlands, sam and bucky do the same. sam says that he didn't think charles and bucky would've returned so well kept for a pair of men who were stuck in the snowy mountains for two days, but bucky merely snorts, explains that charles is pretty good at making a whole lot of something out of nothing.

"i'm glad you didn't kill each other," sam confesses. "it would've been bad for arthur and i, we had plans to go gambling and i can't do that if i have no partner."

"easy, buddy," bucky says, "i'm your only partner, not some ill tempered cowboy from dumb fuck nowhere."

"don't give me that. you two would've gotten along under different circumstances."

bucky scoffs. "yeah, sure. enough of that, though, i want to go home."

"we don't got a home anymore, remember?"

bucky hooks his chin over sam's shoulder, wraps his arms around him real tight. "don't matter. as long as i'm with you, i'm home."

sam, taken a back for a moment, laughs. he doubles over and nearly steers redwing into a tree.

"charles help you come up with that one?"

"yeah. he says that to arthur all the time."

"figured. those two, they were something else."

bucky hums, making himself comfortable against sam's back. "let's hope we won't run into them again for a long, long time."

"agreed."
